Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

So I went to gamestop today to buy trails of coldsteel LE(ps3) for $37 but afterwards I realized the vita version was also lowered to $40 at gamestop. On amazon the msrp for the ps3 version has dropped to $40 while the vita is still at $50. Did I make a mistake?
 
Thanks for the #FE SE link, was able to cancel my standard order and get that in its place. Just be aware that if you used rewards certs for a previous order and cancel it, it can take up to 5 days to get them back to your account once the cancellation is approved.

Vita has smaller print but has portability...that's about all it has.

 
Keep in mind that ninty consoles are being hacked to hell so in due time like bravely default/second  TMS might have a restoration patch. So I'm most likely taking that route.

It's recent and kind of unusual. Amazon, newegg, etc are all still fine. Kind of wondering if it was a mistake. The Steam web store was never blocked, but the app used to be. Now that's unblocked again. No idea what they're doing and I have no reason to believe they do either. We have a separate network we're supposed to use for some things (Best Buy is also blocked on this one), but Star Citizen wouldn't work on that last week and now suddenly it does? And there's weird stuff like I think Elder Scrolls Online could only patch on one network, and then only login on the other. So you had to move the system to patch and then move it back to play.

I don't think 'work' hates us, but rather the IT people might just not know what they're doing xP

Your mistake was not preordering it for $32 at best buy.

I haven't heard whether it runs better on the vita tv or not but you could always order and play it on that too so you get the best of both options. portability when you want big tv and ps3/4 controller when you don't. Its not like there are any touch screen controls or whatever for it. Vita version doesn't run well though from what I've seen and heard and the games font is on the small side at times to make things worse. text randomly shrinks and grows. maps nearly unreadable on a big tv so I imagine its impossible on a vita. game does have save anywhere though so ignoring its length being around 70 hours it'd make a doable portable title.

*shrugs* I'm nearly to the platinum on Trails of Cold Steel, and regularly play on both the the Vita and PSTV and it's never bothered me.

I played it primarily on the PS3, but I did try the Vita here and there for comparison. I'd say there's a part of the last chapter that basically felt like a slideshow. It can go by decently quick or lasts hours depending on how much you "explore". It was pretty bad and I couldn't stand it. Rest are annoying at times but tolerable.

So does every NIS America and Idea Factory release in the states now come with an LE/CE option?  I can't think of the last time they released a plain vanilla version of anything without a CE option.

Guess that means we should probably expect a Fairy Fencer F PS4 CE announcement soon for the IFFY store.

Also, the Atelier Sophie LE is down to 11% - 25% stock left on the NISA website.

If you ordered when it was listed, I wouldn't worry. Atlus does list the art book as limited, but I can't think of a game where all the initial copies didn't include such an item, but maybe it was really limited like the watches for the time Zero time dilemma game.

GS still has the book listed, but no place else. Did BB ever show the book as a bonus? So all early copies may have it, but it may also actual be "limited", and once a company reaches that initial qty, they can no longer offer it.

I was planning to get it at Amazon, but I just put an order in for GS store pickup where my friend is a manager, that way hopefully I don't have any issues getting the art book.

BB never listed the book. I think it is a retailer exclusive bonus. GS is still advertising it, and Amazon advertised it for the first few months of pre-orders. I really hope they include it with my order since it was listed it at the time; otherwise I would have gone with the PS4 Storybook Edition.

All preorders come with the artbook. It it limited in that only preorders will get it. There is no launch edition bundled with the artbook. Same

When about 60% of the niche games on the Vita coming out are dungeon crawlers you usually have to either get used to them or just ignore most of the new releases.

You have a good point. And with my buying habits, the stranger the game, the more probability I'll purchase it. I only hope the stretch for a Vita port can be met. I'm not a huge fan of PC gaming, but I'll probably still try and help for it to get a release.

 
Awesome, looks like my Blanc hat LE was just delivered according to the USPS website.

I'm surprised it got here today. I honestly thought it wouldn't get here until next week, since it barely shipped on Wednesday.

I'm confused, do all Burning Blood preorders get the Metal Case? Or is it exclusive to Namco Bandai.

Because I think I'd prefer to keep my Marineford edition

I haven't seen the metal case mentioned on any other site, so I took "ONE PIECE: Burning Blood Exclusive Metal Case" to mean exclusive to their store.  I put an order in for the Marineford Edition through them and it shows the metal case as a separate item.  I would have liked to keep the 20% off with Amazon, but it wasn't THAT bad of a gap in price since Amazon charges me tax and Namco didn't.  I think it was about 19 more through Namco and I can't imagine getting the metalpak cheaper through ebay later.  Plus it had free overnight shipping lol.

 
Just got an e-mail from NISA saying the bonus DLC for Atelier Sophie will no longer include the BGM due to "complications with implementation"

Saw in BB forum that their Vita standard edition will not come with an artbook. I believe it is retailer exclusive. GS for sure is getting it. I'm going to contact Amazon to see if my early Vita preorder is still getting the book.

BlackRockWaifu I dun a bad thing. I decided to return the Trails of Cold Steel(PS3) LE so I took it to the 86st gamestop to exchange the unopened LE for a vita version. The gamestop manager(big fat guy) said he needed to open the shrink wrap to verify the contents. I was almost gonna stop him but it'd make me look suspicious. So he took off the shrink wrap and opened it. Now there's a gutted cold steel LE(ps3) at the 86st gamestop. I swear I didn't touch her anywhere under the shrink wrap! But I can't speak for what sick molestation the gamestop employees subjected her to after I left.

The only post I saw was with regards to the hardcover artbook, not the softcover artbook which is the preorder bonus.
Even crunchyroll has the artbook preorder bonus. It's not exclusive.

It will be limited though so no harm in making sure

Haha, it's okay. I decided I wasn't going to get it anyway, since it'll just go straight to the backlog, and I was leaning more towards the Vita version. I might pick it up if it's the next game for the Backloggers Anonymous, and I'm not a super neat freak or anything, so I wouldn't mind if I ended up buying your copy.

The big manager dude with the glasses is a pretty cool guy, he lets me take advantage of the trade-in promos a lot, even let me buy and trade back within the same store. Just say you'll give him like perfect surveys and he'll do anything for you, he takes those really seriously. Hell, once he told me he bought three copies of Arkham Knight just to trade it to Best Buy himself. Chillest dude ever.

Awesome catch, thanks! I originally wanted to get it there for the exclusive metal case until I saw the $30~$40 shipping to start. Not sure what changed, but free shipping (overnight at that) is how it should have been all along. Glad to see it before launch.
