Jim Whebbe[1] (born September 29, 1934), is a former professional wrestler and manager, better known by his ring name Skandor Akbar which translated means "Alexander the Great". Akbar led the heel stable Devastation, Inc. in Bill Watts' Universal Wrestling Federation during the promotion's hayday in the 1980s as well as other regional territories including World Class Championship Wrestling and the Global Wrestling Federation.
 
Yoshihiro Tajiri accompanied William Regal to the ring at last night's show at Budokan (LIVE AT BUDOKAN!).

Man, Tajiri was so good in ECW during his matches with Little Guido and Super Crazy, and his Hardcore Heaven match against Corino was one of my favorite ECW matches ever. It's nice to see someone go out before they turn into a mockery, but I miss the hell out of him.

Kind of heavy with Jeff matches from recently, plus their first ladder match was at No Mercy, IIRC.

Looks half like one of those dvds WWE pushes out too early to make a quick buck, and half interesting. If they were going to include all the recent Jeff Hardy footage, why not include some Matt vs MVP? No match against the APA where they won the titles first either... damn!

All in all though, I'd expect this to be the last Matt Hardy dvd, with Jeff getting yet another one sometime in the next 5 years.

Oh it's not that it doesn appeal to me. I just don't know much if anything about the guy. I only recently (past 2-3 or so years) escaped from the WWE bubble, so I still have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to wrestling history.
 
There are some excellent Skandar Akbar stories in Bill Watts' book, and some grizzly ones about Watts biting off (then eating) part of a guy's ear in a fight, and also tearing an eye out during a fight.

Even if I didn't have the WM box set, that package looks totally uninteresting. Like they had a fuckin' dartboard full of WM matches and threw a fistful at it. Yoko vs. Bret Hart? Really? Slaughter vs. Hogan?

You know, I still can't help but look at that Wrestlemania DVD and just think that there will ALWAYS be one name missing.

I'm honestly surprised they didn't put Hogan/Andre on there in it's place. Personally, I'd rather see his WM5 or WM6 matches, but if you're taking the safe way out (no Savage and no Warrior), the Andre match is truly legendary.
 
They must really hate Savage and Warrior; I didn't think about that. The only Hogan match more forgettable than Hogan/Slaughter is Hogan/Bundy in a cage.

EDIT: HWA's own Rory Fox (complete with Kojima Productions logos on his tights, evidently) jobbed to Big Stevie Cool tonight.

Super Dragon does a move called the Curb Stomp, essentially a standing surfboard stretch, followed by a boot to the back of the head. I assume that the Curb Job is different.

That's the same move. It could be called curb stomp, but I guess I have a habit of 'curb job' from listening to far too many macho skinheads threaten people with one (and why is it always just skins that do that?).

EDIT: TNA's spoilers for the next two weeks seem to suggest the show is moving in the right direction, but still are saddled with a LOT of stupid shit.

Bubba Dudley doesn't "make weight" for a match that D-Von does, and the next week, D-Von doesn't and Bubba does? Are you fucking kidding me?

I did notice that every title match they put on there featured a title change.

Also, aside from the Edge match, they're all face victories.
 
That was a fine women's match, Kofi once again shined in a squash, the Delaney program is continuing nicely, and Stevie's return was perfect. They aired clips of the interview, showed you the damage done to his body, got you to care about him, leading to the crowd giving him an impressive response, and even leading to little kids going crazy for him when he won. Chavo took another step down this week, cutting that credibility-killing promo at a time when he cannot afford to lose any more credibility as champion.

It definitely looks like they're going to put the belt back on Punk at the PPV, but Chavo as champion CAN work, and they've got something with him and Edge, so I sort of hope they don't go in that direction at the PPV. Also, how awesome were the pre-match graphics for Mark Henry and Punk with them rotating, and in Henry's case, yelling? Mark Henry screaming at a stagehand was fine TV, too.

Lots of people deserve pushes based on injuries and difficulties. Richards is lucky that he didn't end up like Chris Kanyon (from the ICU to singing "do you really want to hurt me" and being summarily crushed by Undertaker, then jobbing to Rey on Velocity, and then to the unemployment line).

So much of what wrestlers genuinely deal with can be used to humanize them and make fans care about them - Tomko didn't do anything particularly amazing on Global Impact other than miss his family and go to the gym - something we hope most wrestlers do - and we all said "woah, look at this guy!" It's rarely used, of course, in favor of "Boogeymen" and whatever god else they come up with.

I give Richards 4 weeks before he's a nobody again. And I think that's generous, timewise.

IDK, he could wind up the next ECW champ, now that Chavo set a new precedent by winning the belt.
 
I've been conditioned to think of Chavo as a nobody by WWE, but to be fair, his extended feud with Rey Rey in 2007 (which I didn't see since I rarely, if ever, watch SD!) gives him some credibility boost that holding the whogivesashitreally? Cruiserweight title did not.

Chavo hold the current version of the CW title now so little has changed.

I think Paul London's signing with the WWE was the very first time I thought "oh, fuck - there goes his career." Pretty much felt that way with everyone else since then.

TNA's figures will be distributed by Jakks Pacific starting in 2010, while WWE signed a deal with Mattell that starts in 2010. WWE's stock went up over a dollar today with the announcement, and ECW did a 1.4 rating. Also, Angle had this funny line about the TNA game -
He said he believes in the long run the new game will outsell the WWE game. Fantasy Island wasn't canceled I guess.

I've been thinking about this since myke made the comment about how a lot of wrestlers should get pushed if pushes were based on the difficulties those wrestlers have had.

Let's say Chris Benoit's surviving son wanted to be a wrestler. Maybe he has the charisma of Ric Flair and the technical skills of his father. How do you guys think he would be treated in the wrestling business? I'm not sure WWE or even TNA would give him a second look, no matter how good he was.

i cant even imagine how people look at him in day to day life currently, needless to say i dont wanna imagine how people in the wrestling biz would treat him.

I imagine that if he was as talented as his old man, he would be accepted in the wrestling biz.

Just don't expect him to use his real name or any tribute moves.

I thought London was hurt or something and thats why Kendricks been jobbing solo lately. Hopefully he'll be back soon and they can get some tag belts back. A real tag division would be nice. Hell it seems like all the of titles haven't had anything going for them except the world belts.

London and Kendrick have a "energizer bunny, adrenaline rush, run to the ring like your ass is on fire" vibe to them that I absolutely detest. If they would just calm the hell down, stop mean muggin' (it looks completely fake), and tone down their attempts at "holy shit" spots in their matches it would help me like them better. I like high spots but damn...not at the expense of you possibly killing yourself everytime you do them. They are like one continous Kidman Shooting Star Press.

Speaking of whom, Joe's contract ends in four months. No word if he has resigned with TNA or if he has been given an offer by WWE.

Also - Randy Orton is said to have formed something of a clique with wrestlers such as MVP, Umaga, Rey Mysterio, and Carlito as of late and has been known to stick up for them. One thing the group likes to do is play around with Shawn Michaels by calling him names and pulling pranks on him.[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]

February 13th: Who will get the ROH World Title shot when ROH tapes its 6th PPV on 3/16 in Philadelphia? There is no clear cut challenger as to who will challenge the Nigel McGuinness vs. Bryan Danielson 2/23 World Title Match winner. ROH officials have decided to set up a mini-tournament throughout the big triple shot weekend that will see shows on 3/14 & 3/15 in Dover, NJ with the PPV taping on 3/16 in Philadelphia. The format is very simple. There will be two single matches on each night in Dover. The four winners will then open up the PPV taping with a Four Corner Survival. The winner of this match will then challenge for the belt later on the 3/16 taping. The single matches and participants in the tournament have been signed. Here is how things are shaping up:

3/14 Dover, NJ:
-Delirious vs. The Necro Butcher
-Brent Albright vs. Go Shiozaki

3/15 Dover, NJ:
-Davey Richards vs. Claudio Castagnoli
-FIP World Heavyweight Champion Erick Stevens vs. Tyler Black

3/16 Philadelphia, PA:
-The four winners of the above matches will compete in a Four Corner Survival that will open up the show.
-The winner of the Four Corner Survival will challenge for the World Title later on the show.

Of course, but I don't see them doing that as long as he's on ECW, since that show is nothing but heels and Tommy Dreamer. I could see him switching if he went to RAW but not Smackdown for some reason.
