Megazell's Free And Legal PC Games List!
Thanks :)

If you go to the Spotlight section - There is a link to a website called 'Can you run it?' it will help you find games that your machine can play.

If you are ONLY going to stay in the MMORPG arena - There are a ton of games that I posted. I think only the only 2 you can not play at all would be 'Age Of Conan' and 'MegaTen' as those games are extremely beautiful and require beefy rigs.

The are some great 2D MMORPGs that I posted like 'Dungeon Fighter' that only reason I don't play that game anymore is because the one friend that I played it with got shipped off to the war and we will continue when she is free to do so or when she returns.

Your video card has these specs

Name: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
Manufacturer: VIA/S3G
Chip Type: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
DAX Type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 64.0 MB

Looks like you have an HP. When you are ready to upgrade - There are many on this forum that can help you get a great rig for cheap.

If you are willing to clip coupons and abuse rebate programs like me - You can get a beefy rig for under $400.

My last rig was this one.

CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720
MB: MSI DKA790GX
RAM: Kingston HyperX 4GB
Videocard: HIS Radeon 4870 512MB
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 500 Black x 4
PSU: Rosewill RP550V2-S-SL
Case: Antec Skeleton PC Case
OS: Windows XP Professional SP 3 (Gamer Edits) and Ubuntu 9.10 (Gamer Edits)

NO DVD Drive, NO CD-ROM - I do everything via USB or download.

Total cost after rebates and coupons: $188.93

^ You may not one to go my route but you get the point.

PS - Yes I know that Mir (all versions) are free. Most players on this forum are asking for less MMORPGs but when I revisit that game soon...I may post it up. I had it posted on my original list on a long Dead PCGamer Forums.
im downloading 'Perfect World International' atm (hoping it works), although im not a big fan of the whole 3d mmo's, amazingly this peice of shit pc ran WoW with no problems at all lol, but i couldnt get into the game properly.

My problem is every mmo i try, i make too many comparisons to mir, and for some strange reason can never play them longer than a day and soon find myself back on boring old mir lol.

As for getting a new rig, its not something i can afford to do atm and in england we dont get those rebate thing's your talking about :p

i dont quite know what u meant by ''Looks like you have an HP'', do you mean a hewlett packard?

edit - i dont think dungeon fighters is my cup of tea, any suggestions for a mir-type feel game would be appreciated (2d/2.5d isometric as opposed to fully 3d)

When it comes to MMORPGs, I'm probably the wrong one to ask. Hopefully, others will answer the call.

HP as in Hewlett Packard - Yes - That chipset was used quite often in their rigs.

Nightmare Creatures

Third Person Shooter
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - No
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Horror

Nightmare Creatures is a 3D horror video game released for the Sony PlayStation and PC in 1997, and Nintendo 64 in 1998. It was published by Activision and developed by Kalisto Entertainment.

The story behind Nightmare Creatures draws upon gothic horror elements of the 19th century. The story begins in 1666, when a devil-worshipping cult called the Brotherhood of Hecate were conducting sinister experiments in London so as to take over the city, and then the world. The Brotherhood tried to develop an elixir that would endow them with superhuman powers. However, rather than creating their intended superhumans, their experiments created only nightmarish creatures. When they decided to use these creatures as an army of conquest, one of their number, Samuel Pepys, set their headquarters on fire, resulting in the First Great Fire of London.

The game takes place in 1834 when London falls victim to several evil occurrences. Monster sightings are reported along with news of people mutating into ungodly creatures, and that the dead are waking from their graves and walking amongst the living. All of London is in a panic and vulnerable to the ghastly schemes of Adam Crowley, a mad scientist and occultist enlisting the help of the Brotherhood. Until a mysterious book is dropped off at the home of Ignatius Blackward, a priest and occult expert. He soon discovers that the book is a lost diary of Samuel Pepys, which contained the Brotherhood's research. Knowing he needs help, Ignatius sends the diary to a renowned American immunologist named Dr. Jean Franciscus of New Orleans, who shows up with his daughter Nadia in tow. The good doctor is promptly murdered and the book stolen. At the funeral, Ignatius and Nadia are approached by a man who gives them a note reading: "Know about Adam Crowley, Brotherhood of Hecate --- HVHJ." Ignatius and Nadia head out to an address listed on the note, hoping to seek out Crowley and to resolve the monstrous activity that grips London.

The game went freeware in May of 2005.

Wait...?

Only you can find that answer. Either look up the information through Device Manager on Windows or use Speccy and it should give you the name/type of hardware you're using. From there google the rest.

Judith is a game you play the game from the first person perspective and it's about control.

Megazell's Comment - While trying to summarize this game to a friend I found this review that took the words right out my mind - "Judith is an interactive story in which you literally cannot help but press on even as you unravel the suspenseful plot bit by bit. I found the experience to be surprisingly deep and haunting. The plot ultimately hints at a back story that you are left to interpret for yourself. I was amazed. I want more games like this."

Mall Monster

Adventure
Single Player - Yes
Multiplayer - Yes
Netbook Friendly

Theme: Horror

Mall Monster was my sophomore project at DigiPen (2001/2002). You play as a young child trapped in a mall at night with a monster, and must escape without being caught. I was the head of technical design, helped come up with the game concept, worked on 2D art, and worked on sound effects.

Mall Monster was featured in the January 2003 issue of Nintendo Power, was accepted as one of the ten Student Showcase Finalists at the 2003 Independent Games Festival, and was shown on TechTV's (now G4) The Screen Savers.

Megazell's Comment - This game reminds me a lot of 'Clock Tower.' It was a British game that came out for the PC and console where you are defenseless person running away from a serial killer. I love games of this nature. Mall Monster is very well made and very difficult to play. It's not for the run and gunners. Great horror game!

One Night

RPG

Overview

One Night is a survival horror game created by Dark Gaia with RPG Maker VX. It was first released on January 2nd, 2009, and since then has garnered favorable reviews and has spawned two full sequels. It also holds the very dubious honor of being the first ever survival horror game developed with RPG Maker VX.

Story

The Complex... At one point, it was obviously some sort of bustling, busy epicentre of human activity, the nerve center of all sorts of scientific endevours and the military stronghold of an entire armed force. This can be evidenced by the sheer complexity of the place...
Buildings sprawling over each other, subterranian levels, airfields, hangars, vast underground laboratories...
But then again, if it ever was those things, it surely isn't now. Something happened there long ago, and now The Complex is abandoned, crumbling, and eerily silent, it's inhabitants seemingly vanished into nothing in the blink of an eye.
It seems like The Complex is just... no longer there. It's never been heard from since that day when... whatever went wrong went wrong, and nobody who has set out looking for it has ever returned. No maps seem to mark it's location anymore, and not even GPS surveillance can sight anything in the endless expanse of forest it once called it's home.
Some have even gone so far as saying the place doesn't exist.
There's some sort of secret behind that place... And what happened there. The Complex holds many such surprises, and a treasure trove of mysteries too. But it also holds a strangling atmosphere of terror, and a horrific fate which has changed it into a world of dread and danger.

You have just opened your eyes from a long period of unconsciousness, finding yourself sprawled on the cracked stone floor of one of The Complex's many abandoned rooms. Remembering only your name, you must now set out into the darkness that has infested this place, and discover who you are, why you are there, and what terrible catastrophy turned the once bustling Complex into what you are about to experience.

Game Features

> Scary atmosphere and locations, with eerie audio and dark lighting effects to set a frightening mood.

> Relentless enemies which will hunt you endlessly, and which you cannot defeat!

> Mysterious story filled with puzzles and secrets to discover.

Megazell's Comment - Another game where it's all about staying one step ahead of the monster...lots of reference to other PC classics like 'Alone In The Dark.'

After playing games like F.E.A.R., Silent Hill, and Resident Evil, I thought I knew terror. I thought I knew the fear that wells up deep within the soul, the kind of horror that drives your heart into your throat and the breath from your lungs. But that was not the case. Staring at a surreal and human organ as dismembered, tortured limbs shoot destructive orbs at me and runes and words skitter across the screen has given me a new understanding into that primal urge H.P. Lovecraft calls the "fear of the unknown." All Of Our Friends Are Dead is what taught me this fear, and it is single-handedly more terrifying than all of the retail horror games I have ever played combined.

Megazell's Comment - This game is NO JOKE. There's no true plot to it (list most gore/horror films) it's more of a 'WTF IS THAT?' and 'Please Don't Kill Me' horror platformer. It's very well made with multiple endings and a lot of scare factor.

And do you still remember the old times, playing games like Katakis or X-Out all night long?

If only one of these questions comes to your mind every now and then, you're at the right place. Finally, your innermost wishes come true - an awesome action-packed space shooter-game with unbelievable graphics is available for free.

Making Monkeys

Action/Platformer
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Fantasy

Greg Sergeant's Making Monkeys is a very brief but enjoyable 2D puzzle platforming experience, where players control a monkey that lost his tail in an accident, leaving him to resemble a piece of toast. The monkey has a penchant for coffee and will use as many clones of himself as the game allows (as dictated by the counter in the upper left) to reach that forbidden cup.

The monkey's movement is bound to WASD and its gun is controlled by mouse, the latter of which allows for an uncommon level of shooting precision for a 2D platformer. The game's 14 puzzles are contained within a single screen, and a handful of those stages are tutorial-esque.

That aside, once the real puzzles start, completing the stages feels rewarding. I just wish there was more of them. - IndieGames.com

HOW ARE THERE SO MANY MMORPGS?
I think it's rather inexpensive these days to get one up and running. Hence, why there are so many.

In the US alone there are 192 - Non browser based - Free MMORPGs that are active.

Mind you that is just the games that are PRE-INSTALLED with English.

The list is much bigger if you were to include those games from Spain, France, Italy, Brazil, Korea, China and Japan were you can dl and install language packs and translator programs.

In the US there are 578 active free MMORPGs that are browser based from NON-SPYWARE, NON-POP-UP LINKs and have free roaming (worlds to explore unlike many of the Facebook/Myspace MMORPGs which is 99% text and pictures).

Again this list is bigger if you include the games from other countries.

I'll try not to cover anymore MMORPGs but there are some that I have my eye on that are noted to be F2P like 'DC Universe Online.'

Legends

First Person Shooter

Theme: Science Fiction

Captive humans remotely control clones in a fight to the death for an alien spectator sport.

Legends is a fast-paced first-person-perspective online multiplayer game released as freeware (software license). The game is designed to take advantage of the beautiful environments available from the Torque engine it is based on, while still offering the breakneck pacing and variety of styles available from such classics as Quake and Tribes.

Gameplay is not the strafe-strafe-jump-strafe-shoot-strafe-run-like-hell style a lot of games espouse; the addition of a jetpack adds a third dimension of mobility that makes skill, forethought, and restraint necessities to winning.

Team sizes are ideal between 10 and 15 on each side, and the network code allows 56k upwards to play smoothly. Game type offerings range from the classic Capture the Flag, Deathmatch and Duel to our own new types, e.g.. 'War'.

Plenty of maps are provided by us, but the beauty of this game is its customization possibilities. Mission creation has never been easier, with a stable, full-featured editor integrated into the game engine itself. Skins, models, and effects can all be modified by the end-user with commonly available tools. The game has an Autodownload feature which means you never have to leave the game to join new user created Client-Side and Server-Side missions.

Red Alert - A Path Beyond

First Person Shooter
Single Player - No
Multiplayer - Yes

Theme: Science Fiction

Red Alert: A Path Beyond brings the exciting storyline and epic clashes from the classic Westwood Studios game "Command & Conquer: Red Alert" to realm of first person shooters, with a twist. We've tried to remain loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. Built off the W3d engine Westwood Studios built for classics such as Earth & Beyond and Command & Conquer: Renegade finished up in 2001, we help bring the fight to you as you play out your role as any one of a number of infantry classes participating in team-based combat that often involves land, sea, and air combined-arms clashes that just don't happen in any other game.

It's 1946. Mankind has just gone through one of the most brutal wars it ever faced. While the rest of the world is still in shock and trying to find ways to prevent such an event from ever taking place again, a Jewish/German scientist of unmatched genius decides to act. With a device he was engineering for the US government (at a secret research center in Trinity, New Mexico-- the same site where he helped develop the most devastating weapons mankind has come to know), he travels back into time to kill the person who he sees as the root of all misery; Adolf Hitler. He catches up with Hitler in 1926, as Hitler is still a young - but already embittered - man and 'disposes' of him; without thinking through the consequences thoroughly enough, as time will soon tell.

It's now the 1950s. World War II never happened; at least, not yet. Germany remains a peace-loving country with close ties to other Eastern European nations, now finding themselves facing increasing tensions with Russia under Josef Stalin's lead... and all the while the Soviet Union grows in influence and military might. Attempting to live up to a glorious Marxist dream he has envisioned, Stalin mobilizes the forces of the USSR. His goal? The Soviet Union stretching from coast to coast after an epic communist revolution, with Russia reigning supreme. The Eastern European nations, together with the United States, form the Alliance that seeks to put an end to this madman's nightmare before he can see to its completion. World War II has started.

Megazell's Comment - I covered Savage 2 first on this thread because I played it first. Also, I never felt compelled to try part 1. Recently, I received several PMs and emails saying that I should check Savage 1 out or post it. So here you go. The benefit is that this one can run on less beefier systems :) The game has been updated with new features and content. Also the engine is even more optimize to run on all types of machines.

The Spirit Engine I

Three strangers going about their daily business, find themselves transported and stuck together on a remote island with a small, mute and ghostly spirit. They soon find themselves playing Survivor for real, trying to figure out what they should do as unfriendly creatures, bounty hunters and sinister forces chase them across the world, from misty, haunted forests and snowy mountain-tops to arid, magic soaked sand-dunes and glittering skyscrapers.

The Spirit Engine 2

The Spirit Engine 2 is the follow up to the freeware game 'The Spirit Engine', originally released in November 2003. Set in a new world, with new characters, new graphics and a rewritten game engine, TSE-2 sets out to improve upon the game experience of the original in every possible way.

The Spirit Engine 2 features:
- An extensive plot spanning nine distinct chapters. History is unravelling in the once peaceful state of Lereftain. Murderous cults are running unchecked through the streets, parliament is bickering, tension is building with old enemies in the west and the country's inhuman rulers seem to be losing control of the situation. Three citizens who find their paths crossing in an act of charity one dark night will find themselves burdened with the responsibilty of not only defending the nation but deciding whether to save civilisation as they know it.
- All new and improved original graphics. Simple yet effective new effects, including parallax scrolling and screen-shake.
- The introduction of something sorely missing from the original - difficulty levels! Play at a level to suit you and either lock it there or feel free to change it as and when you like.
- An improved real-time combat system which builds upon the simplicity of the original. With an improved interface, greater control over characters, combat speed options and action synchronisation controls to make battles more tactical and more fun.
- New game combat mechanics such as automatic character recovery, party chains and combination strike damage bonuses.
- New, varied character skills to play with, including targetted attacks and debuffs, and a whole host of crafty, unfriendly creatures to use them on.
- A vast stock of equipable items with new abiliti

Theme: Christmas

Sint Nicolaas
In this game you must try to collect all the presents and cookies and bring them to the right chimneys, while facing all kinds of dangers. The colors of the presents correspond with colors on the chimneys and each chimney has the number of required cookies written on it. In the game Sint Nicolaas, time is limited, you must deliver all the presents before morning breaks!

Zwarte Piet
In the game Zwarte Piet, you play with Zwarte Piet instead of with Sint Nicolaas. Time is unlimited in this version and you stay on top of the roofs (instead of climbing up from the ground). The graphics are also very different, these were rendered in POV-Ray. Finally, this version also uses a higher screen resolution and will require a faster PC in order to run smoothly.

Stick Soliders I
Stick Soliders II

Shooter/Platformer

Theme: War

Stick Soldiers is a side-scrolling deathmatch shooter in which players control pencil-drawn stick soldiers with various weapons.

Stick soldiers pretty much resembles many Quake-like shooters in which you pickup weapons from the ground and go on a fragfest in a map of your choosing.
The only difference is the presentation, SS is a pure black and white 2D game with clunky pencil-drawn figures of stick men.

There are two game modes; FFA and CTF.
In FFA its frag or be fragged, you win when you reach the specified frag limit.
CTF means Capture the Flag, the objective here is to steal a neutral flag and place it on a specified point in the map.

By choosing a map, you spawn and a number of bots spawn with you.
Weapons and Powerups are scattered all over the map, weapons range from the Uzi to the Grenade Launcher, Sniper Rifle, and Flamethrower. Powerups range from armored helmets to Jetpacks.

As I said, the graphics are pencil-drawn so don't expect something fancy, and in my opinion they don't look that good. For example stick figures don't look that much and they lack animation and variety.

Levels also look dull with no variety at all, just some obstacles and some fairly easy labyrinths to go through.

Sound is not that much either, guns sound clumsy and there is no background music, which makes the game a bit lifeless.

Controls are very simple and easy to learn, though sometimes aiming can be a bit hard but you'll get used to it.

A cool feature that comes with the game is the ability to make your own maps, a readme for the editor comes with the zip file

Tower Toppler

Action/Platformer
Single Player - Yes

Theme: Fantasy

In this game you have to help a cute little green animal switch off some kind of "evil" mechanism. The "power off switch" is hidden somewhere in high towers. On your way to the target you need to avoid a lot of strange robots that guard the tower.

That sounds all like a normal jump and run game. What makes this game different is that you walk arond the tower which is revolving on the screen, so that you only see the 180° that are currently visible.

You know, recently I found some really scary horror games from Japan...but they violate the rules of this board. They are freeware...but the horror is like really out there...Almost like Clocktower (the original version) with the scene with the little girl getting mutilated and things of that nature.

In fact there is a movie series called 'The Feast.' In part 2 there is a scene that kinda of stops the movies for most people...'Did they really show that?' type of scene...well these games are like that from beginning to end.

If you PM - I will send you the links but the game is VERY graphic. I mean, I think Satan himself would be like 'I am not fucking with that shit' type of horror.

Trackballs

Trackballs is a marble game inspired by the 80's Atari classic Marble Madness.

By steering a marble ball through a labyrinth filled with sharp objecs, pools of acid, and other obstacles the player collects points. When the destination is reached you continue on to the next, more difficult level. - unless the time runs out.

Unlike marble madness the game uses 3D graphics even though the original game had no real use for it. Also the game is fully programmable with a scripting extension (Guile), and includes a level editor with which to easily create new levels.

Megazell's Comment - I highly recommend you dl and installed the music and extra level pack to get the full effect of this gem.

One of the longest running independent games on the Internet, UniBall has evolved from a simple version of space hockey into a sport that is uniquely its own.

The basics remain simple and easy to learn: you maneuver, you pass and you shoot in order to score goals.

But beyond this simple design lies a surprisingly complex game involving teamwork and individual skill that can take a lifetime to master.

La La Land 1 to 5

Action/Platformer

Theme: Weird

Communication is abstract; between what is communicated are spaces called ambiguity. It is within these spaces that what is communicated is interpreted. Videogames, being inherently a form of communication (the player provides input, the game responds with output, the player responds to that output with further input), contain a great deal of abstraction.

The la la land games, of which there are (to my knowledge) five, are haunting and surreal short tales. In the way that static might draw attention to the pauses in a phone conversation, la la land emphasizes those vast between-spaces in the dialogue between player and game. It is here that the games take place.
