Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread
I'm buying one for when Ocarina of Time comes out
Hell yeah man OOT is my favorite game of all time and cant wait to be able to play it anywhere I go. :D
I would almost bet money it's going to be on a sunday because every hardware release since the gamecube has been on a sunday (no clue on the 64 or earlier).
You must mean only for Nintendo, right?

If they release Wind Waker on this thing I will cry manly tears of joy, so I can play both of my favorite Zelda games whenever I like.

Maybe they can do it, but it would probably have to be cut down quite a bit, as the hardware's considerably worse than a Gamecube.
If they release Wind Waker on this thing I will cry manly tears of joy, so I can play both of my favorite Zelda games whenever I like.
Exactly. OoT is good, but WW is the best.

Both were good. Wind Waker had the benefit of better controls and graphics. I think Ocarina of Time needs the remake though. It looks rough (even on Gamecube) and it has more substance (dungeons, side quests).

Although I tend to prefer Wind Waker, I'm much more interested in replaying a smooth version of Ocarina. Ultimately I think I would most prefer a game like Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time with Wind Waker style graphics.

Either way this is going to be the game on the 3DS for a lot of people (including me).

Holy shit, I just realized how awesome it would be to update LttP with WW graphics! Even if they kept the top down view like the DS games...

Yeah it would be fun to zoom in on certain scenes and look around.
I'm dying to know the North American launch games. :whee:
I can't wait until the 19th. I think that's when we find out dates and pricing right?
crossing fingers for a SSB melee or SSb brawl for 3Ds, also hoping for a $200 price point:)
The only 1st party game Japan got was Nintendogs + Cats, so I think that's all we can hope for here as well, at least from Nintendo.

When I buy the 3DS, I'll likely buy Nintendogs + Cats. I'm budgeting to let myself buy one more game. Alright, third parties. Step up.

I can wait until well past the 19th, because every comment on here is going to be whining due to expectations pulled straight from the Galactic Asshole of Eternity.

Always fun, altough let me get the ball rolling on three bullets.

 • 3 hours? WTF the Game Gear lasted longer
 • Friend Codes? Why do you hate online gaming Nintendo, even Sony's PSN works well enough.
 • License Manager? Why cant we readily transfer downloaded game licenses? Why do you hate digital distrubution Nintendo?

I doubt Friend Codes can die until the next generation of Nintendo consoles. I so hope they get with it. But I know, I just know my hope is wasted.

fuuuuuu

I missed the Gamestop preorder window (as in, the line is unreasonably long ahead of me) so now I either have to hope for an Amazon slot or camp out for a launch unit. Goddamn.

Really? I'm surprised GameStop is already limited preorders.

I'm in for Amazon, I think. Despite that I want one launch day, I'd like to save tax on a likely $300 system.

no uh sorry i was not clear like. basically i can still get a preorder but i'd be 20th or so in line so i won't get a system until well after launch even if i do preorder. there are no limits on preorders afaik.

Hm, I guess it just depends on how much stores get. 20 seems pretty early in line, IMO. But then, I remember the Wii and PS3 launch, which had really limited release numbers.

Will the 3DS be so hard to find in the beginning?

was excited bout this but 200 is a lot of money
hell im about to upgrade to the DSi
it looks cool but 3d movies give me a headache, so ill try one first before im tempted to buy it

if they wanted it to sell system they should have released pokemon black and white on it. glad they didnt

though kid icarus looks pretty sweet

Maybe, they may only have a couple million available at launch. Given Nintendo's impressive PR ability, this could catch fire and result in lines like the Wii, but at $250 I have my doubts, might be more of a slow burn.

To be honest I havent seen anything that is a must buy yet for launch.

HOLY SHIT HE HAS A NEW SHOW IN THE WORKS?!?!
I'm a HUGE fan - Dirty Work is my favorite movie and I've been watching the Norm Show on DVD recently. :D

Can't wait for the 3DS!
I think I was the first one to pre-order (on 12/26) at my local Gamestop. :D

You could save your money from upgrading to the DSi and just skip right to the 3DS. Game development is about to switch major gears over to the 3DS, and you don't want to be left out.

I'm buying the system at launch because the DS remains my primary game platform, despite having a 360 and a gaming PC. Heck, right now while I'm on these forums, I'm alternating playing my DS. The 3DS makes sense for me.

hmmm depending on the price i may do that
but since my ds lite is in a super lowball ill have no ds and i have like 10 sealed games that need playing.

when is it supposed to come out?

i signed up for emails on Amazon, if im still st my job in Phx ill buy the 3DS on Day One, but if ive moved i may not have a new job yet.
Plus i have some games in March that are day 1 buys
Dragon quest 6
Pokemon Black/White i want both
Dragon Age 2
Okamiden

we will see, im gonna buy a DSi either way since i need a ds to play
but ill just sell it for the 3DS

If there is a good trade in option I'll probably upgrade, but not likely fully out of pocket.

My plan is to transfer my DSiWare to the 3DS, then sell my DSi on eBay. I know I won't get a ton back, as everyone will be doing that come the 3DS's launch. If GameStop is willing to do a nice trade-in, I may go that route, as long as I'm allowed to keep both systems long enough to transfer DSiWare.

Woow! Two days ago i had found the Mobile Phone TV... o-oo I'm so glad that I decided to advise you too l:)

I consider myself a bit of a road warrior. I am on and off jets and through airports at least twice,
usually 4 times a week. I can catch up on news, watch a Discovery program, check up on the stock market or just find something interesting.
The live guide works like cable at home and the connection speed is very good. All in ALL - I RATE A 5 Star program!

here is this miracle :) http://$$$$$$$/awesome_mobileTV
sincerely, your Alexis....

Wait, you can transfer them now? I thought everything you bought digitally from nintendo is tired to the hardware?
Wait, you can transfer them now? I thought everything you bought digitally from nintendo is tired to the hardware?
I imagine we'll find out on the 19th, but they've mentioned they are looking toward a centralized account system versus hardware.

Who knows if it'll happen.

I'm expecting a $250+ pricetag for it. I'm fine with that, considering how powerful it is and the sames announced so far (Zelda, Kid Icarus, Paper Mario). The Japan launch slate looks really weak...but I assume Nintendo will have at least Icarus out at launch.

I'm pretty sure Icarus will be delayed for some time. I believe the only launch title from Nintendo will be Nintendogs + Cats (3 cover versions). Other launch games so far (for the US market) look pretty weak...and the $49.99 pricetag for Dead or Alive Dimensions will hurt. I hope there will be some trade in bonus for DS Lite and DSi owners.

Kid Icarus will not be out at launch. While I would argue it would have helped to sell systems, the systems are gonna sell regardless.

if i have a good job ill get one at launch since i lov my ds so much
i just hope they have some at least decent launch games.
Nintendo Dogs + Cats is not gonna cut it for me

Not quite the right forum, but.... Has anyone seen anything on pre-order trade in deals on a 3DS? Im on the fence, but a decent deal will move me over fast.

There's nothing right now. I imagine trade-in deals will appear after the system's price is announced.

I thought it was 3DS only.
Awesome that Ross is hosting.

Hmm. Don't know if I'll sell my DSi. Probably not.
It'll just be my go to system for DS only games.

I thought for sure that Skyward Sword was going to be there. Nintendo usually holds something in March, but I would think this is taking its' place.

I'm not selling my DSiXL. I want the 3DS to be cheaper.

In all my years of knowing ninetendo the stuff is always in limited supply from launch to up to a year. That is there thing it has been the same since tyson's punchout.

So walking in launch day pick ups will be pretty hard to come by even at the high price tag because the hardcore combined with the loyal followers have the initial supplies taken.

It is just how nintendo does.

This is the first time I am paying a system off before launch because as the lauch approaches the fever and hype will take over also the glowing reviews from the industry have me stoked. I am just curious about the launch games and there availibilty.

Although there have been very positive hype and early rave reviews, I'm a little dismayed by this recent article coverage. I had hoped to experience some extensive 3d rpg gaming, but I don't want to risk hurting my eyes or sacrificing my well-being. Here's the scoop :

Japanese weekly magazine Friday has posted an article about Nintendo's 3DS event in Japan last week at Makuhari International Convention Center in Tokyo. The magazine reviewed numerous visitors who played the demo of 3DS at the show. A majority of players said they experienced symptoms of dizziness within 10 minutes of playing. One 30 year old male said he played the Sengoku Musou Chronicles demo, the game felt good at the beginning, but in a few minutes he couldn't take the 3D visual anymore and turned it back to 2D mode.

Many users said viewing the 3DS screens in stereoscopic 3D made them felt a little dizziness and fatigue; some people said you can reduce fatigue by holding the machine in a fixed position. Over half of the people said 3D effects on 3DS will accelerate eye fatigue in a short time, at the beginning they look forward to 3D visual effects on 3DS, but they had to turn 3D effects off in the middle of gaming due to eye fatigue.

It's the VIRTUAL BOY all over again!

Come now, your well being? Eye fatigue is a hint that you should stop playing, but given the fixed focus for the 3D gimmick I'm not surprised that folks are finding the 3d tough at what are probably standing stations. This thing will need to be used under stable conditions without much motion.

Which brings me to your second statement about the Virtual Boy. Spot on I say. Granted, I loved me some VB back in the day. Red Alarm, Wario Land, Mario Clash... and that was it.

That's fairly true for just about ever first-party game system that comes out...games a little less so, but I can't remember the last time a major release was actually rare...it's just a standard marketing gimmick now...put out enough units to placate a lot of people while ensuring that the shelves run empty, thus garnering a lot of press.

On a side note, I actually remember being able to walk into a target on release day to pick up a Gameboy Advance. Also remember getting a GBA-branded pair of headphones for free with pickup. Don't tell me how long ago that was...
It's the VIRTUAL BOY all over again!
Can't say I ever put much faith in the 3D aspect to begin with. Said it before, but until I see a game do something with the 3D turned on that absolutely couldn't be done with a conventional display, I'm content with keeping it off. I've always been more interested in the beefed-up hardware. Although all the hardware won't mean Jack until I get definite confirmation of the software that'll be out.

I cant speak to the availability of individual games, but the old chestnut of artificially constraining hardware supply for marketing buzz needs to pass on. Companies run out of consoles at launch because they can't make endless units and only have so long before launch to stock up. Granted one company really did try that approach, it was Sega, with the Saturn, and it pissed off a large number of retailers. Wal-mart isnt going to pull 4 feet of shelving without some assurances of stock.

I won't say that companies never genuinely run out of supply...but I can guarantee you that there are companies that intentionally produce less supply of an object than they are capable of in order to keep them "rare" or "highly sought after". As to whether that's what Nintendo did with Wii (or whatever), only Nintendo knows. I just know that I wouldn't put it past them (or Sony or Microsoft, for that matter).
