Persona 4: Released and Ready 2 Play! Metacritic Score -- A Whoppin' 93!!!

I played a bit of Persona 3, but was somewhat turned off/afraid of the time limit. Is it really not as big of a deal as I made it out to be? It just made me feel like I was being rushed through the game and that I would miss story elements and items.
The 4th dungeon has me grinning like an idiot.
I loved the 4th dungeon too, especially the sound the doors make when you open them. Every new dungeon I think "Wow, this is cool! I wonder how they're gonna top this for the next one!" Then bam, they somehow top it. I've been pleasantly surprised, especially after the boring blandness of Persona 3's dungeon.

Okay, so fourth dungeon.
It's August 4th, my party is all around Level 35ish, and I can't go through the door to the boss on the 11th floor. It tells me that it is mysteriously sealed. Will it just open on a certain day or is there something I have to do to trigger this? I've gone in every room on every floor on the way up and can't seem to figure out what to do.

You need an "mysterious orb" or something from a mini-boss on the previous floor. It's one of those glove shaped enemies if that rings a bell.

There's no time limit, it's more like it leads you through the game at a certain pace. It's impossible to fall behind or get ahead of where the game wants you to be, because there are constantly barriers that won't open until a particular date. You're not being timed.

I fought one around Floor 8, but it ran away. I'll keep looking then.

It's kind of a shame how the one persona you start with becomes obsolete within the first hours of the game. It'd be cool if he constantly leveled up like the other characters' persona's.

That's a treasure hand enemy who drops gold, not the orb. The one you need to fight is on floor 7 in a specific static room. Here's a shitty picture of the upperhalf of the floor. In the top right room (unmarked but it's a 3x2 red dash room) is the stairs up to floor 8. You'll need to maneuver yourself south of there and then west through the weird ass intersections that change based on where you try to go. The B is the room with the boss/orb that you need.

It was like this in P3. I didn't hang onto Orpheus for too long either. But I see where you're coming from. Izanagi is such a cool looking Persona. Plus there's so much art work of Izanagi and the main character together it's almost deceiving. There's still Izanagi no Okami.

Does Izanagi-no-Okami come automatically later in the game or is there some shenanigans to get him. I haven't been using Izanagi at all either but it just feels weird not having him in my roster.

It's a New Game+ fusion if you get the 'True Ending' in the previous run.

Now I need to get to dungeon 4, I'm at either 2 or three depending on if you count the first location that's only one room.

Thanks, I figured it out after your earlier comment. I thought I had made it through every room on every floor, but I somehow missed that one.

On to tackle the Dungeon 4 Boss!

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'm going to snag P4 now and give it a go.

I haven't played as much as you guys because I just got Fallout a few weeks before this, but It's either Wife's PC or Wife's consoles, so I'm getting the PS2 right now and I'm currently on...
The stripper dungeon. Is this even a spoiler ?

For those that beat it - What do you think is better? P3 or P4? So far it has been a virtual tie for me with the exception of Junpei who is still unbeatable as a character (mainly due to his voice actor) but P4 does have a better event layout/well organized way of going about your social links.
Just beat the game. I feel....so depressed now that's all over. :(
Dude, pace yourself. You're like a mad dog with a new chew toy.

I just started playing this again. I took a break once the Fallout 3 trophies were released. And, I have to say that I'm enjoying this a lot more than before. Probably because I decided to stop trying to follow the max s.link guide.

I finished the school camping trip in June, and I have to say this game is a little ridiculous. I was laughing my ass off at
Yousuke's and the main character's reaction to the food the girls made. And, the river incident.

Seeing as I'm about to face the final boss, I figured I'd throw up my social link levels and characteristic levels. Although I inflated Judgement to max since it'll be max after I finish the final boss.

Social Links:
10 - Judgement
10 - Star
10 - Fool
10 - Hermit
10 - Chariot
10 - Priestess
10 - Magician
10 - Lovers
10 - Heirophant
10 - Justice
10 - Strength
10 - Temperance
10 - Devil
10 - Fortune
10 - Tower
6 - Sun
6 - Death
2 - Emperor
1 - Empress
1 - Moon
1 - Hanged Man

Characteristics:
5 Knowledge
5 Expression
5 Courage
5 Understanding
5 Diligence

I think I can see maxing out all of the Social Links when I go through this game a second time at some point or another, but before that I need to finish the game and complete the bonus dungeon.

I couldn't say as I left my game running a lot when I wasn't there, which accumulated over 130 hours. I'd guess that it took me around 60 though as I didn't try and do every single little thing this run.

I am getting ready to switch over from Suikoden V/ToV to Persona 4 and was wondering if you guys had some tips before starting. Stuff like 1 of the 5 stats not being important to raise or one being more important then others, or a certain S Link thats very important to raise/character that is uber and definitely worth raising over others.
Dude, pace yourself. You're like a mad dog with a new chew toy.
I couldnt help it. It was so damn addicting.

The nice thing about the Persona games is that it depends on how you want to play - there's really no right or wrong way. Personally, I like to work on knowledge first so that I can score high on exams, but all of the other stats will affect S.link progression.

As far as S.link order, my suggestion would be to try and make it through your teammates first as they will get bonus abilities/follow up attacks and ultimately evolve their persona.

Iv played the last few Persona games so I know there is no right or wrong way.....but at the same time there are some things that can be hugely helpfull. For instance in Persona 3 I didnt focus on S Links right away because I didnt realize their importance, I waited to raise my Academics because I figured it would be the easiest one to raise....when it was the hardest and I made a number of other choices which maybe wernt mistakes but they made things harder then they had to be. Anyways thanks for the tip.

As stated in previous post, there's no right or wrong way to play this game. You can play as freely as you wish.

-For some pointers, you want to level your slink as much as you can. In the previous game, slink grant an experience boost and special persona when you max it. But now they give a greater impact when it comes to your allies. Things like protecting you from harm, additional harm and upgrade their persona. So your allies are top priority.

-Out of all the five character personality attributes, knowledge or is most valuable one. Before, they give better test result which yield big reward items, now they grant slink boost if your test score are in top ten.

-During rainy days, the bulk of slink that involves outdoor are locked. In this time frame, you can either dungeon crawl, finish Hermit quest, fishing or vist Anya in shopping district to improve 3 of your character social stats.

-Try to finishing the dungeon in one day. It will save you more days doing slinks or improving your social stats. I know sp cost is extremely expensive, but if cards go in your favor, your sp replenish is free.

-Floor 3 and 7 in dungeons are fixed. The layout and treasure layout is pretty much the same. There are few spots that chest are randomly generated between rare or normal chest.

-All rare chests now require a key to open. You can gain keys by opening normal chest, quests or defeating rare golden monsters. Make sure you unleash your top tier skills on that golden monster because within a certain time frame they will flee. That time frame is based on what type of dungeon you visit. The best place to get keys are Retro stage floor 3. The treasure there is fixed.

-If cash is limited, focus on armor over weapons. Since weapons only affects normal attacks and armor helps in all situation, they're top priority first.

-Boss fight focus on using buffers such as increase damage or decrease enemy attack to make the battle much easier.

In order of importance for stats: Knowledge, Understanding, Courage, Expression, Diligence. There's really no need to get Diligence any higher than level 3 other than easier fishing. Unlike P3 all the stats seem to level at the same rate.

As for S.Links I'd prioritize your teammates over everyone else. By leveling them up they gain bonus skills that are useful in battles, like taking killing blows for you, knocking enemies out, etc.

One last tip, there's a Chinese restaurant you can eat at for stat bonuses. Try and spend your rainy days there because they have a "Rainy Day Special" that raises multiple stats. Do this early in the game, trust me it pays off big time.

EDIT - Fatbeer beat me to the punch. He made a good point Armor > Weapons

I can't figure out how to finish the quest for 41 for the hermit
It's the one with the guy that dislikes cats. I looked at an FAQ and it was no help. It tells me to talk to him about cats then go to the cat from an earlier quest and tell it to follow me, but the only thing I can do with the cat is feed it.

And I haven't played at all today.

S-Links REVERSED.

Since it was asked earlier what the requirements are for the endings, I'll go ahead and throw them up in tons of spoiler tags upon spoiler tags just in case to minimize spoilers. :p

Bad - Normal Ending Decision 1

Date -
12/03

In the evening you'll get bombarded by multiple choices in a serious conversation with your party. The answers to them are:

Decision 1:
"Wait a second here..."
Decision 2:
"We're missing something."
Decision 3:
"Namatame's true feelings."
Decision 4:
"Something's bothering me."
Decision 5:
"We're missing something..."
Decision 6:
"Calm the hell down!"

Bad - Normal Ending Decision 2

Date -
12/04

Once again in the evening you'll be asked to pick from a list a suspects. You have up to three times to get the correct answer before you're thrown down the bad ending. The correct suspect is #
10
in the suspect list.

True Ending Steps

Date -
03/20

After you go and talk to all the social links you maxed, it will ask you if you wish to go home. Pick no and then do the following:

 1. Go to Junes and check the elevator. You'll be asked if you want to go home once again and choose no.
 2. Check the elevator again and choose "I'm not finished yet." and then say "Yes."
 3. After the event, head to the Floodplain and talk to Dojima and Nanako.
 4. Next go to the Velvet room for a scene where you'll recieve the Orb of Insight from Igor. If this is part of your second cycle, he'll give you another item.
 5. Now talk to the man in front of the gas station in the shopping district.
 6. Finally enter the T.V. world. Be warned that you can't come back to the real world again, but you can access the weapon and item shop by going to the return T.V. to sell materials and buy items/equipment.

I don't know if you need to get the normal ending to attempt the true ending. The guide doesn't really specify that, but I assume it does considering the dialogue that takes place during the true ending.

26 hours, 8/11.

I'm just about to finish up Dungeon 4 and have had very few problems with the bosses. Until this one. Time to grind a bit, me thinks. Everyone is level 37 or under. Any other pointers?

The guide recommends level 43 for the boss, but I did it at level 40 I think. It was the boss fight that took me an hour as I was still using Dungeon 3 equipment due to trying to one-day the dungeon and still hadn't really done any real fusion on my Persona to top it off. There isn't much to say except probably:

When its "armor" is about to go, cast attack-up on the party. Also pay attention to the element the shield spell is and make sure nobody is weak to that element and the is one is, have them guard until it begins to rebuild the sprite. This is because it gets in a nasty extra attack if you it manages to hit someones weakness and knock them down. Finally if you can, equip the protagonist with a Bravery Vessel to prevent the status inflictions as Ghastly Wail can insta-kill if I remember correctly. (At least the bastards that use it later in the game insta-kill with it)

It was probably the "toughest" boss for me in the sense that one slight screw up and I would have been wiped. Thankfully though, I played it cautious and barely managed to win.

When you get a relationship to the point where the person can survive a mortal blow, is that once per battle? If so, then that is awesome. I'm at 16 hours or so an early june.
