PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Ugh this thread.
Let's get this shit back on track. Discussion of the PC has led me to think about the Oculus Rift, since a couple of my friends from CAG have them and the thing sounds incredible.

So my question is, what is up with Project Morpheus? If it's coming out sometime next year, it seems to me that we should have heard and seen more about it by this point. I am a huge fan of 3D, so VR is something that has greatly intrigued me for a long time.

Personally I feel Last of Us should've just been a movie(which it IS becoming) and not a game.
I'd keep your expectations low on the movie. They've already said Joel and Ellie aren't in it. Two hours just doesn't feel like enough time to introduce a new cast with much character development.

I'm going to rustle some feathers here, and maybe be called an Xbot Fanboy or something.  But two things that are totally unrelated to each other, but relate to this thread:

-If you're not comfortable with the physical building of a PC and you have a Microcenter near you, you can actually have them assemble it for you.  Last I checked, to have them assemble it so that it just posts (as in, goes to the BIOS without having an O/S installed) is $80.  If a part is faulty when they are assembling it, they'll figure out what part it is.  I personally have done this in the past, because I hate assembling hardware (too many cuts and scary moments of breaking stuff) but have no issues installing software.

-The Last of Us was very predictable . . . up to a point.  I'd say 2/3rds of the story, I predicted right before it happened.  With that being said, it's still a very great game.  Amazing maybe.  But if it didn't make some serious plot decisions near the end . . . well, it wouldn't of been what it is.  I hated the beginning of it for that very reason.  The only reason I trudged through it was because I was told it'd get better.  And it did.  But I can definitely see why some people hate it.  I hate it in some ways, but love it for the totality of it.

Boom.  *Drops the mic*

I think it's just how the system is. Mine got really loud when I played Second Son and The Last of Us, and my brother mentioned the same thing playing TLOU.

I ask because it seems alot louder then normal and I had accidently powered it down incorrectly a few times while trying to get my damn cables under control

Ok so I picked up the last of us. Got it from amazon. Did anyone else get the ps4 version? Mine didn't come with and booklet or anything and wondering if his is standard or not? Also didn't have a sticker sealing the game shut. Thinking amazon sold me a used product as new...

Most *if not all* don't come with a booklet

My ps4 fan is actually staying on for awhile after it turns off weird.   But, seriously could use opinions on the gold headset.  Will it be louder then a pair of full sized senneiser hd 558s attached to my ps4 controller?   Also is it worth saving $20 by buying open box on newegg? No way I get it in time for weekend so I'm hoping to order on monday so I can have it for next weekend. And finally how do they pair with android if you need a dongle?  Not that I'd use them much for that but would be nice if they worked easily

I don't own a pair personally, I still have the older version. I'm pretty sure for phones or the vita, it uses a standard 3.5 mm cord. So if you want to use it on the ps3/ps4/PC you use the dongle but with a mobile device you plug it in. Also not sure if it was NewEgg, but I remember some people buying Open Box ones and they didn't have the dongle with it.

Also, Sony games haven't had the stickers since the PS2 days.

Not even that. Someone could easily use a key to cut through that. They're also very easy to just peel off most of the time when I buy new Xbox games.

Kind of meh on the plus offerings this month.

But with the amount of good games I have gotten from there lately I will hold off on grabbing my pitchfork and torch and gathering the townsfolk.

Just a quick update. It has been about 10 days since I installed the 2TB drive and everything is working better than ever. When I turn on the system with the controller, it's fully booted within 2-3 seconds max. The load and install times seem shorter also.

Have any of you played First Light? If so would you recommend it? I played and beat Infamous and I enjoyed it.

Capcom just announced Resident Evil Revelations 2 for PS4.
Bloodborne launching on 2/5/15.
PS Vita 3.30 will introduce theme support and "live from playstation" app.
Hot Shots Golf for PS4
God Eater 2
Yakuza Zero Travels to the Past
Disgaea 5
New Gundam Game
Persona 5 coming to PS4!
PS4 2.0 firmware will support themes.
Dragon Quest Heroes for PS4 developed by W Force! Silver PS4,too!

More announcements at TGS like MG Phantom Pain to come...

If you like Infamous then you'll like First Light. I've been playing it all morning and late last night, takes the neon powers and builds upon them while expanding Fetch's backstory.

The challenge arenas are also a lot of fun.

I'm actually really surprised with the Bloodborne release date. For some reason I was expecting it to launch in March or April. February puts it in the same month as The Order. With both PS Exclusives launching that early in 2015, it makes me wonder, maybe they were both planned for release this year. If you include those two games, the PS4 has had some decent Exclusives this year.

With Firmware 2.0 shaping up to be a major overhaul, as it should be. When does everyone think we should expect it to drop? Personally I think it will be October, but it could drop in November close to the Year One mark.

Current announced features for 2.0 are:

Upload Directly to YouTube
YouTube App
Themes
SharePlay
New ways to search and find people(real name searching)
Enhanced Activity Feed
Bug Fixes

Honestly with the new 2.0 firmware, I could care less about everything if they added in the feature to pause downloads.

How fuck ing hard is that.

I am excited for D5, Persona 4 YS 8 on the PS4. It's nice to actually see games to look forward to.

Folders would be nice so I can organize my home page better.

I find it odd that Themes were leaked on that Sony podcast and then they denied it as being misspoken only to now confirm it was real.

I'm assuming they weren't sure if they would have it ready or not by the time 2.0 hit... So they backtracked.

I don't give a shit about themes, where is the ability to make folders? How about mp3 support.....please? And yes......it's 2014.....can I pause a download if I want to HONESTLY! And still no talk of a media remote or DLNA support.

I can't wait for my PS4 to be able to do all the stuff my PS3 can do!

This plus please just let me store my videos on my ps4 so I can ditch the ps3.

See the DLNA thong doesn't bother me. That feature was terrible on the PS3. Also the 5 TVs in my house all have DLNA support because it's build into DirecTV boxes.

I don't understand the reasoning of stripping away features that you would think is a given in a NEXT-GEN console.

I say goddamn Sony is killing it with games.  Must suck to be a Microsoft fanboy and the only thing to look forward to is the next monthly update.

If Sony somehow gets folder, suspend/resume, and the ability to pause downloads into v2.0 I think it'll shut most of the nay sayers up.  DLNA would be a nice touch too, but don't want to get too greedy. :)

Yeah, there is a lot of stuff coming out in 2015. Not so much on the Xbox One side. Sure a lot of the games for PS4 isn't everyones cup of tea but its great the PS4 has a much more diverse library of games.

Also in 2015 there's

The Order
Bloodborne
No man's Sky
Everyone's Gone to the Rapture
Rime
Wild
The Witness
The Tomorrow People
Uncharted IV

Those are the exclusive games I'm looking forward to next year. Not really into Persona5, Ys, or DragonQuest. But I'm still glad they are coming to PS4.

Completely off that topic. For the month of August the IGN First game was WWE2K15. They barely had any info at all besides the 2 screenshots and 2 entrance videos they showed. They also announced the Showcase Mode and revealed part of the roster. When it was first announced, I was under the impression they were going all in and they'd have gameplay and a bunch of features. I haven't been into wrestling for over 5 years but I still enjoy the games. And I'm really looking forward to this years.

Usually when you set new years' eve of the following year as release date, that's just a placeholder date and it probably won't be released that date. It just seems greedy to be taking preorders on a game that won't be released for at least 16 months..
