PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Just seen IGN has a 24 minute gameplay video of Until Dawn, think it's from GamesCom. Not sure how old this is, but it was my first time seeing it. Looks like it's shaping up pretty good. I'm really interested in that game and the multiple endings.

Well my PS4 bit the dust. It started ejecting discs on it's own, now it won't even read a disc. Have any of you guys sent your PS4 in for repair? If so, how long did it take to get one back?

Today I received my Gamestop Exclusive white Nyko Modular Charger. It attaches to the top of the PS4, and I must say I really like it. That's exactly where I kept my controllers when I wasn't playing anyways.

Just to be sure, the Sony Press Conference for TGS is at 1AM eastern time tonight/tomorrow correct?

Also just seen the following games are on sale on PS4 for $17.99 each:

Thief
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Tomb Raider: DE

Edit: Just read an article on IGN about a few of the editors playing a unannounced PS4 game during an earthquake. So I'm guessing that's at least one PS4 about to be announced.

That's a shame at least it didn't wait until out of warranty. I've sent my controllers in for repair on mondays and gotten them back by friday but i live pretty much 90 minutes straight west of where I ship them to

Some new DriveClub, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and Final Fantasy 15 footage/trailers.  :D

I like how the fighting in ff xv is open world and the animation just flows naturally. Gope those are not cut sceens but actually gameplay mechanics

I apologize if this type of question gets asked and answered in this thread a lot, but I recently picked up a PS4, and was wondering if anyone could give me some recommendations for digital games in the PS Store I should consider?  When I bought the console, I picked up The Last of Us Remastered, so I've got that and this month's PS+ freebies, but I've got $26 burning a virtual hole in my Playstation wallet.

I've been considering Octodad, but I have a feeling the novelty and the humor of that game might wear off long before I got my $15 worth out of it.

Infamous first light is supposed to be good.

outlast and resogun are two freebies you missed out on that are pretty fun. dead nation is another decent game if you never played it on the ps3.

Child Of Light is good. Doki Doki Universe, Flower. Transistor I hear is good...

Can anyone tell me what it says on the cable or can take a picture of the power cable that came with the ps4?  I just found a spare cable that looks like it might have been from the ps4 and got mixed up in all my moving stuff around.  Also does it really matter what cable you use as long as system powers up and works?

Long as the connector is the same it's fine

It's the same as the ps3 cord. When I came home from the midnight launch, I took down the ps3 and replaced it with the ps4. I haven't even used the wires in the ps4 box.

know if there is a way to check if a unit is new or a used/refurbished unit? I've had bad units and Sony is supposed to send me a completely new one. But with the service I've had so far, I'm skeptical it's going to be new or another refurb. Anyone know if there is a way to check serial numbers?

So IGN gave Shadow of Mordor a 9.3, I'm impressed. I already had it preordered but was expecting a 7ish review score.
Also received a 9.5 from Polygon saying that it was one of the best feeling open worlds in a game and that the dynamic content was actually well implemented.

This might pull me away from D3 and Destiny for a while. Been a long time since there was a decent Middle Earth game. The last one I remember that I actually liked was The Third Age ... and I can't remember but I think that one didn't do so well in reviews but I still enjoyed it. Wish the White Council had not gotten cancelled.

Yeah, I preordered Shadow of Mordor as well. At $48 with GCU, $10 cert and a $40 trade in value in a few weeks it's a great deal for what looks to be a great game.

Maybe when the game hit's discount bins, I'll jump on it.

Not a fan of LotR, but always down to play a great game.

I'm not a fan of LotR either, but it's mainly because the movies are paced at a snails pace and bore me and I've never read the books. That said I think the game will be paced much better, plus I want to see what all the hype about the "nemesis" system is as it's said to revolutionise open world games and as a fan of open world games I have to check that out.

I've had two controller since launch and haven't had a single issue. Is it the thumb sticks? If so maybe you should pick up those stick covers?
I have those stick covers. And yes it is torn but, i haven't noticed it since covering them up. But, the l2 is activating on it's own now making it impossible to take corners in fifa

My launch controller is still fine, even the sticks don't have any of the peeling that some people have.

I did notice that when I bought my white DS4 the sticks seem to be made out of a different material.  So maybe they've finally fixed that issue?

I picked up the blue one and I noticed a different material as well, I havent had any issues with peeling after weeks of playing unlike my launch black one.

The controllers have been pretty unreliable for the PS3/PS4.
How was the PS3 controller unreliable?

The peeling thumbsticks has always been a persistent issue with Dualshock controllers.  Never owned a PS1/PSX long enough to witness it, but it happened often on my PS2/PS3 controllers.

As far as the PS3 controllers, the L2/R2 trigger were always getting stuck or a lot looser than usual.  Have to click it place in order to use it properly.

I never had a single problem with any of my PS3 controllers but I did notice the left thumbstick starting to peel already on my DS4. I picked up those covers though and I love them. Simple fix.

Anyone care to share a pic of the blue controller? I might have to break down and order one
