nah I think so too. If they're doing a wide release like this at all of the major retailers then there should be a ton of 30th Anni digis to go around. Shouldn't have any trouble getting one on the 10th imo. I'd wager they'll be in stores through Christmas, and be in full production.

My real struggle is that I'm going to be buying one of these 2020 digital machines for $500 + $80 when I should be buying a Pro instead. I would have liked to have gotten one of the Pro bundles instead, but now I am forced to sell a console if I want to buy a redundant one.
Simply have to have it; I grew up on the original PS1. I've always wanted one of the previous PS4 annis, looked into buying one many times on the aftermarket but the $1K+ price tag made no sense to spend that much.
Let’s be honest- no one needs the ps5 pro. Your ps5 experience is not going to substantially improve with a pro. If you like the design of the 30th anniversary ps5 slim, then just get it and pay for the disc drive. It’s a nice looking console and pays homage to the ps1. I’m sticking with my ps5 Spiderman for now- you know the one that came WITH a disc drive.
I’m honestly not that surprised with people shelling out $700+ for current gen consoles. During the pandemic, plenty of people were buying/selling consoles above msrp.
Sony is on top of the console market and has zero competition this holiday. They are getting away with historically high console prices and people are happily paying for an incomplete console. We’ve been down this road before. It’s been said before on this forum, but vote with your wallet folks.

Very true. I find it hard to blame the companies too much, or people simply selling their stuff they get by normal means. High markups inevitably attract scalpers willing to use underhanded tactics to acquire and sell more. That’s wrong, but will happen when $ involved. Ultimately it’s consumers willing to pay above MSRP fueling any inflation in video games. In the end, these are toys, that we don’t need, that anyone interested in, with any ounce of sense, already has or could get a lifetimes worth of content very cheap and easy at any point. Even with some prices going up, you could still get a countless number of great games at aftermarket discount prices, or free, from epic games store, prime gaming, steam, gog, and other giveaways.

Are you supposed to refresh when you're in line or it doesn't affect anything? I heard you had to be in before 10am est to be placed in a random que

I was only able to get the portal after waiting an hour, sadly no dual sense edge and apparently that's exclusive to ps direct smh. is the portal exclusive too?

Portal is also exclusive, yes

Sorry I couldn't find where it said that. Tech radar is a jumbled mess of articles on mobile. I'm not doubting it though. Sony has only confirmed that the drive plate is the same size in the press release when the Pro was revealed. It was also said that the Pro was the same size as the launch PS5 which is noticeably larger than the Model Slim. So it would be nice to have official & wide spread confirmation that the model slim cover plates are 100% compatible with the PS5 Pro.
Yeah the website layout is awful. I searched for individual words. I don't know why it's so hard for Sony to give straightforward info right now.

That is not true. I was on the website pretending to buy something at 9am. Went to checkout on a random item, all was normal.

At 9:30a the website kicked me out and forced me into a ‘waiting room’. Around 10:02am I was told I had a 35 minute wait. At that point the Pro 30th was gone. I ordered a slim 30th, portal, and dual sense edge as a suckers consolation prize. Truly only wanted the Pro 30th.

Afterwards I realized I forgot to buy a standard dual sense 30th.

The whole idea of if you "need" the PS5 Pro or not is irrelevant. No one needs this. To me it is similar when I got the 4 Pro or you get a new TV. It's amazing the first time you turn it on and are blown away, but eventually you are not going to tell the difference. It is not like I am going to continue to have my regular 5 hooked up to a TV and compare and contrast games graphics/ performance.

I was fortunate to get one by luck. I hopped on at 815 CST and was put in line. I was attempting to confirm my payment for the millionth time since last week. Line went from 40 minutes and slowly down until I got in at 910 CST. It was almost too easy and some of the "fun" of tracking down the PS5 when it released intiailly.

Doesn't seem like the standard Pro is in high demand, it's still in stock. Sony should have made more of the 30th Anni Pros, those would have sold like crazy even if they weren't limited.

The same thing happened to me last time. I missed out on the anniversary PS4 Pro, and I did wait on their website just like this. Ended up staying with the base PS4 until the PS5 came out.
Seems to be the same thing this time. I would have bought an overpriced PS5 pro if I looked like that classic PS1 skin, and because I couldn't get one, I'll likely wait until PS6.

Took a little longer then I thought but the Pro finally sold out on direct. I still expect it to be sold out everywhere on launch.

It's kind of out of sight out of mind, for me now. Yesterday is over. That was fun (not really). But I kinda don't want to hear about the 30th Pro exclusive anymore. Aftermarket prices and zomg Ebay listings. "Oh lordy lordy the scalpers," go the idiots. 99% of people did not get one. The issue over obtaining one is now 'non applicable'. When I see media outlets like IGN reporting Ebay listings as news articles to manufacture outrage I begin to lose it. Sony made a laughably small amount. I think it is actually sitting okay with most people this time bc they know how bad their chances were.

If there's anything I'd want out of it's the old retro boxes. Could care less on the actual product and guarantee the Pro 30th will sit a long time

I kinda don’t blame the scalpers on this one so much, I actually think many people wanted a pro 30th but then saw the markup on eBay and just wanted to take the 2-3k profit. That’s just a lot of money at that point, even if your original intent was to keep it.

Yea is still in stock, I don’t see the regular pro selling out at all. $699 is a really high price for most casual gamers to see trees better in Spider-Man. It’s really only videophiles and more hardcore gamers that feel like they need this upgrade.

If Sony dropped the regular price of the ps5 to 399 and made this 550 or so, THEN i could see it maybe selling out.

The pro showed out of stock earlier, that item will constantly have stock trickling in anyways. We won't know till the holiday rush if its hard to obtain. What puzzles me is why the 20th never exploded like this. The most i ever saw someone actually pay was around 2k. Most went for 1k to $1,500, even till this day. I can't believe people are paying $3,500 and up and with over 2 months till release, they are sol on eBay protection.

All memberships are just gatekeeping, rug-pulling, and moving the goalposts now.

Pay Youtube and Netflix so that you don't have to watch commercials! You work for them. Pay Gamestop, or Best Buy....so that they can take customer services away and start charging you for them.

That's kind of why I'm done with PS+ now. fuck yo online multiplayer and fuck yo paid service premiums. nobody needs ya.

Multiplat always.

God I cannot wait until the Switch 2 launches. and these loser companies start showing up hat-in-hand again. Until then, I've got offline Atlus games to buy and play.

In case anyone hasn't been paying attention lately, SquareEnix is completely fed up with Sony's bullshit and is suddenly publishing all kinds of new games on Xbox now. god it's funny watching these companies fail over their own hubris. trip on their own dicks. You wanna perform like a douche then developers will just go somewhere else. customers too. we have choices now. we can game wherever the fuck we want.

Here's to late Q2 2025. Can't wait!

So I got the regular ps5 pro, are you telling me that this won't fit?

The drive will work with any disc-less PS5 (either the slim or Pro). The discussion at hand is about the COVER for the disc drive: whether the disc drive cover that comes with the slim PS5 is interchangeable with the 5 Pro cover.

ohh thank you! my disc drive shipped so I Gott worried a bit

Just report the eBay listings. I’ve been receiving replies confirming the removal. The auctions aren’t legit and I’ve suggested to eBay to remove any and all auctions with “PlayStation 30th” in the title.

In a perfect world, sony would request the information of the seller and cancel their PS direct order.

In my eyes, the scalpers info should be sent to law enforcement for fraud and have them arrested. And yes, fraud is a felony in every state. You cannot sell something you don’t have.

In a perfect world, Sony would have made more of them given that the worst selling PS console was the 3 at 87m units sold, the last PS4 sold 117m, and the PS5 already has a user base of 61m (#s from Wikipedia). It would have meant so much money for them if they made 1,231,995 instead of 12,300.

I know we're a few days past this and whatnot but I'm still just baffled by this.

It's strictly because the PS4 20th anniversary was the same amount imo. I think that they should have done 123k (worldwide), number fits the day better (12/3,000 vs 12,/300) and I think most of the people who wanted one enough to show up early to queue for the preorder would have gotten one but it'd still be limited enough to be worth something (just not 5x or anything crazy like that).

I do agree. Nothing stops them from making more and clearly there is a demand. They are literally throwing away potential income.

i know so many people, myself included, that will not buy a pro as it is now for $700. A fancy limited bundle? I’m all over it. At this point I refuse to buy a pro as I’m sure many others are saying to. It’s Sony‘s loss really.

Doing all that is a bit excessive aside from reporting the listings.

I say this because scalping and reselling will never stop unless companies or legal comes down with a heavy hand.

the fact is these 30th anniversary listings ALL are forbidden per eBay’s own policy. These items are not in hand and cannot ship within 30 days. That’s where the legality issue and fraud come into play. consumer protecion laws are time based. If you buy a listing now, the item isn’t shipping for two months! What if the sellers credit card declines. What if the item is lost in transit to the seller? Now they’ve had your money for 60 days and you have no ability to get a refund.

ebay needs to remove all of these lists and ban the accounts for ToS violations.

You're accomplishing nothing here. The scalpers won't even have their payment charged by Sony until a few days before the ship date in November, so all they have to do is re-list on Ebay or elsewhere 25 days before release and ship within a day or two of actually receiving the consoles to fall within Ebay's no more than 30 day before release listing policy. While I dislike what the scalpers are doing, there is no fraud provided they are being honest about not having the item in hand.

What you also fail to realize is that Sony knows full well what they are doing here. They have gotten literally millions of dollars in free media coverage here both during the announcement of the 30th consoles and in the past few days as people have discussed the limited supplies and their own failure to obtain one. The 30th bundle was one of the top trending topics on Twitter/X at least twice in the past two weeks. I have also seen hundreds of posts from people that couldn't get a 30th Pro but either preordered the regular Pro or a $200 controller or an $80 controller or a 30th Portal or the regular digital slim 30th. Sony got exactly what they wanted which was to transform the narrative that the Pro was too expensive or unnecessary all by selling a $1000 bundle that most people couldn't get. If you preordered anything on Thursday, you bought into the hype and essentially thanked Sony for its anti-consumer practices.

So ask yourself, "what really happened this week?" It was an exercise designed entirely to reshape public perception both about the upcoming Pro launch price and the Playstation brand. It was not an event designed to get 30th Pros in the hands of as many fans as possible. It was a glorified publicity stunt. Use nostalgia bait towards your core base to get them to want something. Only make a few of thing to go around, in order to keep interest very high, and ensure incredible soaring aftermarket prices. "See look at that Playstation brand value; like trickle-down economics". Even non-fans become envious. Then, many customers who gets stuck not scoring one will look at the available $699 and $499 alternatives and buy one of those instead, to feel like they won the day too. As an alternative win condition.

Sony shifted all of the focus over to the regular Pro and digital 30th which is what they always intended. Perception has shifted, and many customers were happy enough to spend $699 on the Pro model. The market is not perceiving the Pro price tag to be outrageous anymore. It is par for the course, and now lots of people are locked into pre-orders.

ANYHOO, I'm really excited to talk about something new. I just got done with the Metaphor ReFantazio demo and the game looks fantastic.

Let me just say: the game is legit. It's an auto-buy, for jrpg fans and fans of Atlus. MR borrows a lot of signature moves from Persona 5 and SMT but is a wholly original new and refreshing IP. I'm at 6+ hours and the game is going to kick me out as soon as I progress in the next dungeon, or 3 more calendar days pass, whichever happens first. World exploration and traversal feels a lot like Persona 5. The dungeons are smaller and feel a lot like Mementos and the P5 palaces. There are about 4 little dungeons in the demo. The demo doesn't get you very into the depth of the turn-based battles yet, so that is something to look out for. But enemies all have slash/pierce/strike or one of six elemental weaknesses just like in other games.

Everything else is wholly new. It feels like a completely original Atlus title and IP. It's a medieval fantasy and there are some sort of storybook world inversion going on. "Humans" are the bad guys / mutant boss creatures. The capital city is very racist, and everyone hates you. NPCs are being killed in the town square and soldiers are sent off to die in battle. Big bad guy is going to take over the world, and "save" the kingdom. This world reads storybooks about modern America/society. The MC has a Tinkerbell companion and they're trying to save the sleeping prince and the world from inevitable doom. Kind of feels like a darker toned Ni no Kuni, in its world atmosphere. You meet like 20 companions along the way, some of whom join your party, that act similar to the tarot card relationships in a brand new system. There's this Da Vinci-like Virtruvian Man map in the menu with hexagonal pieces that appear to unlock about 20 different classes, called "Archetypes". Which begin unlocking one at a time during story mode as you meet new characters. They're like original persona summons, that have a couple spells each, and you level them up. Each one ranks up to 20 with exp, starts with 2ish abilities, and gets and handful more as they rank up. So each party character has to choose 1 Archetype creature/class to level up at a time, then you spend a bit magi currency (alt exp) to unlock a different Archetype on the map, but can then get into starting with inherits. The goal of the game seems to be to win the will of people in town, and become righteously and populist elected King of the people, and fell the usurper.

It all looks very addictive. The more I played, the more I wanted to play. The game starts off feeling very on-rails and as an anime episode. The animation and art design are top notch. I was surprised by the production quality. and the amount of detailed anime sequences. The character designs, personalities, and voice work are superb. The soundtrack is very good too. A couple of gripes I have is that I dunno why we always get such a choppy and stuttering during FMV anime sequences in these types of games. Another complaint is that the screen window is always slightly bobbing and gyrating, and the text box outline morphs and flashes during all of the text based and dialogue cutscenes. They clearly did that in order to add some dynamism to the presentation, and I don't like it. But was able to get past those things, and everything else seems perfect. Everything is not turn-based battles either, as you can real-time run up on enemies on the map and whack them a few times to debilitate them in battle, or single whack everything in a pack of low-level enemies to prevent the battle. Most of the game was story, text based, the introduction of new characters and new Archetypes, delightful side-character depictions and witty street banter that sets the world stage. The presentation is excellent. Clearly a 90-hour game but everything moves at a very quick pace. There are a lot of diversions and modes in the gameplay.

Metaphor ReFantazio is another contender for JRPG of the Year. Man we have been eatin good in 2024. This demo was really important to me, and to people in both the JP and CE threads because we've got an $149.99 collectors edition coming up in exactly two weeks and we need to decide if we want to let this expensive item ship. I will probably repost this in those threads, bc that's where this conclusion is more applicable to those premium customers. I can't tell you how fast it's going to sell out and become OOP, but I can absolutely promise you that if you're one of these customers and you miss out on this CE, you're going to be incredibly disappointed. If it goes OOP it's going to become absurdly expensive and sought-after. I didn't get very far yet, but the game appears to be excellent. If you've played other Atlus games then you know whether or not this is going to be right up your alley.

Sure it was a PR stunt, but I still say Sony failed to really change the narrative much. People haven't magically thought the regular Pro is now a bargain because a very limited special edition was more expensive in a bundle. Hell, I'd say there was increased animosity since the 30th Pro Bundle still didn't come with a disc drive. We'll see after the holidays and how many PS5s of any model sold.

I just wanted the controller and I had more important stuff to do that day (was working as well, but I honestly forgot about it). Honestly it's just consoles catching up to smart phones in the way they're priced in a way. People love to throw money at super expensive smartphones every year cause of new features and whatever design and who cares. There are consumers such as myself that look at their quite a few generation old smartphone and ask, "Is this still doing what I want at a reasonable performance? Are the new features enough for me to upgrade or trade in my old phone for? Do I have money to spend or is it better to save/do something else with? etc..." You do eventually get to a point with the smart phone where it's running horribly or doesn't have a reliable connection, or doesn't work well with apps, etc... Then it's time to upgrade to a new model if you want to use newer features/apps/whatever. I use my old consoles till I feel they are not running games well anymore (Switch is at this point in its life). It's just Sony and Apple and others want you to always be on the newest things to see the newest features at the newest expensive price. It's just consumerism, and you as a consumer can decide what you want to spend your money on. This to me is worthless, but for others it's worthwhile.

The reality is a lot of people who didn't get a Pro bundle ended up getting a 30th Slim, regular Pro, or a controller just to have something. If the Pro Bundle didn't sold out they won't brought anything.
Precisely. and all of these announcements and events were designed as a timeline, in-concert with one another.

Purposely making your older devices run worse, by not supporting them, like Apple, atleast Sony has not worked out how to implement that for consoles yet. I actually think the 30th pro may have hurt regular pro sales. It would have been the hot item everyone, including scalpers, which still overall help their sales, would have gone after. Instead, if people can’t have the best hot item, they may have just skipped it. If this was just a launch event for the regular pro, I bet it would have sold out, simply due to the FOMO being all about the regular Pro.

Just what I wanted to hear. The praise seems universal too. Can't wait to get my hands on it on the 11h.

I ended up buying the 30th slim and a extra dualsense edge that i didn't need. All i originally wanted was the pro so it definitely worked. It accomplished what they wanted. More sales.
