It controls so well. Analog stick or D-pad. There is one item you can get early in the game and if can figure out how to manipulate it and use it to your advantage its like a chef's kiss. So Good.

Yes it is a metroidvania but the main focus is on puzzles and getting through areas of the map using the tools that you find in the game to solve different puzzles. There is really no combat in the game but your character can die and you have health. There are boss encounters but they are also puzzles you have to solve. Personally for me the game is perfect and one of the best of the year. It maybe my favorite by the time I finish it.

Also go in blind and try to figure everything out on your own. As you progress you get more tools that will help you do almost everything you need to accomplish. I even found out things by accident and was blown away that they actually worked like that. So well crafted.
I tried it for 15 minutes and woo boy was it not for me. Puzzles are fine but I felt the game was too simple. I'm guessing the puzzles get more interesting later in the game but honestly, the flow of just search an entire room for secrets, understand which ones will need to be revisited or maybe there's actually nothing here, and move on was only broken up by platforming. I went in blind just based on the screenshots so I think the creatures made it seem there was something more to it. Easy refund, moving on.

"Mario World / whatever is too simple. I flew through the levels."

lmao

Yeah, I usually try and look on the bright side. The highlight it RDR2 which has been there before and doesn't usually stay for very long on these services. I'm not hurting for things to play, but nothing here seems like it will jump to the top of the list.

I've wanted a Japanese Assassin's Creed for years but like, this ain't it. I want to play as a ninja who served Hattori Hanzo or Fuma Kotaro or the Sanada Clan or something cool, but nope. Just generic "girl loses her family to war" and the guy who wasn't even a samurai. My husband already said he wants it, because AC is his guilty pleasure series, so now I need to talk him out of getting it at launch. I'll just need to remind him he pre-ordered Valhalla and dropped it pretty quickly.

Forgot it was even being announced today. Haven't seen whatever trailer they have because I'm not interested. Valhalla was the first time since Brotherhood that I was excited and I put a year into that game off and on. I think 10 years ago I would have been more interested in Shadows, but now: I can't be fussed.

At least convince him to wait until black Friday or the holidays

It also requires an internet connection to install the game from the physical disc and it looks like it's online only, so you need a network connection to play the game.

I'm doing my best. He gets so few games at launch so I feel bad trying to convince him to wait, but we all know it's a good idea. He'll probably still be playing Helldivers 2 when this comes out anyway lol
Keep reminding him that if he wants the full game at launch it's going to cost at least $130 since apparently that's Ubisoft's new grift. Or wait 3 or 4 weeks and get it at probably half or less than that because we all know Ubisoft will start dropping it in price within 2 weeks after release.

Finished Animal Well last night. Took about 15 hours for 100% completion. I got most of the items and collectibles just playing naturally and used a guide to finish off what I missed. Really enjoyed my time with the game.

I do get that. I'm still on PS4 Pro, but I'd like to get a PS5 Pro if/when it releases. All the cross-gen games early on with PS4/PS5 kept me from purchasing a PS5. Hell cross-gen games in general kept me from upgrading, because I knew I could play on PS4 now and down the line play the same game on PS5 if I want to.

Having a Series X makes a different though. If I hadn't impulse-purchased the Halo Series X when it released, I probably would've gotten a PS5 by now.

Also I really, really hate the way all the PS5 consoles look.

See, I think this is it more than whether or not the system makes a compelling argument to upgrade.

Once you establish the possibility of a mid-cycle refresh, you train the consumer to wait for the PS5 Pro. Some won't care, either because they want it now AND will buy the new shiny later, or because they'd rather not miss out on four years of fun while they wait on the Good Version.

Some very much WILL care, because they don't want to spend a combined thousand bucks on a generational upgrade.

Ain't saying all 118 million would be on PS5 right now without the PS4 Pro, but I do think PS4 maintaining 50% of the Playstation ecosystem has more to do with that expectation than with the early scalpers or the continued proliferation of cross-gen titles.

Additionally there's little reason to upgrade to a ps5 while we still have cross plat stuff. Unless you care about prettier graphics and or the other versions run worse.

I'm honestly shocked we haven't seen or heard anything concrete about the PS5 Pro yet... just predictable rumors that it'll just use the "more updated but a fewer generations behind" versions of the AMD hardware.

I also wonder if Sony just fell asleep at the wheel given how well the PS5 sold early on and how the XS' relevance continually declined. But I think their last two or three forecasts have not been as rosy as the ones back in 2021 to early 2023. I wonder if they're prob now like "shit, gotta get a PS5 Pro together".

Info about the PS4 Pro unofficially came out from GDC and was officially announced in September with a November release. I expect the same for PS5 Pro since we got our first unofficial detailed info about it from GDC this year, so I'm sure the official announcement will be in September.

Given how far the industry has it's head up it's own @$$ currently. With the statement, "2K's biggest and most beloved franchises". My guess is they're going to announce that NBA2K will be a bi annual francise now

Usually against pre-ordering, but already did. (incoming nostalgia memory) Friends and I (4 of us) had seasons (each had own school and yes the jersey) that we all played together on the PS3. Such great times....and yes...getting the band back together

well, EA added ultimate team to the college game, so every other mode will be completely ignored and the gameplay will be a reskinned version of the previous years madden. I really want this game to be good so i can put away my ps3, but i have real doubts EA isn't just releasing a cash grab here. I'll see how they handle recruiting and the transfer portal before i give them any money.

More details:

This will be the first game I drop the $70 to get on day 1. It will also be the first time I spend that much for just the digital version (easier to access the game remotely from the PS Portal or from another PS5). Hopefully the committee that decides who makes the post-season playoff is better than the real life version though.

An annual sports game seems like the worst type of game to preorder to me.
As others have said, this is the first game in the series in over a decade and it will feature the real players with accurate details (name, appearance, ratings based on performance, etc.). Prior games required us to download rosters from others to get real names and hopefully accurate ratings. EA did a lot of work to make this game more authentic in terms of the stadium details and college traditions that make it unique from the NFL.

You’re never going to talk a Gamer out of their crippling fomo or illusions of rarity. It’s why pre-ordering games is inexplicably still a thing these days.

Y'all don't realize how popular college football is in some parts of this country. This game series was infinitely more enjoyable than the soul-less Madden series for a lot of people and we have been starving for another entry for a long time. We aren't preordering due to scarcity of the actual game itself but moreso to relive something we enjoyed when we were younger. It's a combination of nostalgia and CFB fandom that drives the interest to get it day 1. The amount of hours that people like me poured into this series growing up would be worth paying full price so I understand that doesn't mesh with typical CAG principles.

Completely agree.

Some games are worth it (to me) in getting Day 1. Sure, I know that down the line I can (more than likely) get a game for $30, but I think of all the time that I could have enjoyed said game while waiting for the price to drop.

In this paticular case, 2 of the 3 other guys that I played College with are waiting to get a PS5 just for this game (one still plays Everbody's Golf on PS4 to this day while he waits). They are not gamers; they found a game they enjoyed. So, why would I say, "Hey guys I will get this game when it goes on sale" vs "Hey guys lets get the season going day 1" ?
