So if I sell the 30th anniversary bundle on ebay for $3500, does that make me a scalper and a sinner in the eyes of our lord? Or does intention have everything to do with whether one gets the title of scalper?
Not in the eyes of our lord, but in the eyes of other gamers, yes.

Did you buy with the express intent to resell and never want what you were reselling in the first place? That's more or less the definition of a scammer, so yes.

Would you pay $3500 on the 30th anniv console? No, but in essence that ($3500) is what you are sacrificing if you do not sell it. Something is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.

I am kind of bummed that the regular Pro was so easy to get. I had a lot of fun hunting down the 5 when it first came out. This time it is a little anti-climatic to simply wait until Nov to get my pre-order. Other than waiting in the "line" for 30 minutes, there was no hassle.

(and yes I could have got a 30th, but I think it looks ugly)

I did not purchase with the intent to sell, but certainly considering it given the ridiculous current “value”. Same thing happened with the Hogwarts controller. I was lucky to get it and had every intention of using the controller until the realization of how limited it is. I haven’t sold the controller yet but once I do I guess I will be considered a sleazy scammer scalper type:).

I think there's a time element to being a scalper. I have plenty of rare gaming stuff BNIB because my backlog is massive. A lot of it is likely worth more now than what I paid for it. There will certainly come a point in time when I'll choose to just sell it off rather than box it up to move it again.

So no, selling the Hogwarts controller doesn't make you a scalper IMO.

I agree here... sometimes, no matter how much you want to keep something, it's hard to say no to just have the money. I think HaloGX put it best, it's about your original intent.

You buy something you want but then see it's going for 3x more than what you paid, and you decided to sell it, you're not a scalper.
You buy something on a whim (money to burn, looks interesting, etc) but then see it's going for 3x more than what you paid, and you decided to sell it, you're not a scalper.
You buy something because you think you can make money from selling it, then you're a scalper.

Anyone tempted to flip on eBay, don’t forget the fees. Not sure what they are up to now, but I think it was 12% last time I checked. You’ve got to pay fees on shipping charges to, even if you charge exact rates. And you may even get reported to the irs to claim your sale as income.

When your total sales for the year is over $500, it's reported. It's best to sell locally if possible.

Even if you meet the sales limit, it does not mean that you are automatically liable for additional tax. It's the actual gross profit that you are liable for.

Do you have to itemize for that? I haven’t sold anything on eBay in quite some time. Got burned by a couple of buyers filing false claims and winning. I just couldn’t stomach how easy it is to get screwed over as a seller. eBay has a huge conflict of interest in their policies that incentivizes siding with buyers. If you lose a claim, eBay keeps the fees you paid them

Can someone please help me with being able to turn on a PS5 and the TV turns on or the TV is already on and it automatically switches to PlayStation 5 without the PlayStation 5 turning on when I turn on my Series x or television? Currently I have enable HDMI device link on and enable OneTouch play on. The problem is if I turn on my television, the PlayStation 5 will turn on or if I turn on my series x the PlayStation 5 will turn on. It's incredibly annoying. How do I fix this or is this just a flaw with the PlayStation 5?

To get around it I was just clicking on the Netflix or Amazon button to turn on my television and then the PlayStation 5 wouldn't turn on. But anytime I turn on my Series X, the PlayStation 5 also turns on. I have no idea what is going on and the only solution right now I know of is a turn off HDMI device link completely on the PlayStation 5. Which defeats the whole purpose of what I'm trying to do.

I beleive it is PS5 Home screen --> Settings --> HDMI --> TV power

course not being in fromt of my PS5 atm I could be wrong.

I do not know why turning on the X would power on the 5, I have both mine in the same room and can turn them on independently

Thing that drove me crazy with my LG is always have to switch input to PS5 instead of their home screen, finally figured out the setting thta keeps it on last input (how I got there I can not recall lol)

I miss my old TV. It never required needing permission or switching to whatever thing to go automatically to my game systems. Turn on the game system and it'd automatically go yo displaying. I don't know why modern technology is backwards with that other than all the various output and settings required these days.

My last tv which was a Phillips? I think was odd since it'd have a message to click on to switch to displaying the system. Usually saying do you want to enjoy this which was kinda perverted out of context.

My X1 sometimes takes a long time to shut down. It's there blinking saying, just another hour or two, it's early.
I believe when you turn it off and it is blinking it could mean a game is running an update. I had this recently with Space Marine 2.
I knew there was a new update and it wasn't triggering so I was rebooting the console to get it to start and it was blinking for several minutes and then when I booted back up Space Marine 2 was updated.

My favorite thing about the new Welcome page update on PS5 is the little update widget that shows a game is updating when I boot up.
I always power off my PS5 now because I don't like when it yells at me for turning it off wrong when I had it in rest mode and I had l power surge.

When you file, no- IRS just asks for what your receipts were and how much your expenses were, and if your receipts exceed your expenses, it'll get added to your income.

Now, if you're actually audited- then you might have to provide itemized support (if they want to look into it) but even then, there are some rationale ways of approaching it and not be taxed unless you have significant income (enough to the point where it resulted in you having a few grand in the bank or money you used to help fund a trip or buy a car, etc).

It's the buggy playstation software. This feature is called HDMI-CEC but on Playstation it's called HDMI device link. The HDMI CEC on Xbox gives you some more options to better control this feature. Turning on your Xbox Series console will turn on your TV, but turning on your TV will not automatically turn on your Xbox.

If your current HDMI source input is currently selected to the one you're using for playstation it will turn on your PS5 when you turn on your TV. The only way around this is to switch to a different input or live tv after you are done playing your PS5, this way your PS5 shouldn't turn on when you turn on your TV or Xbox.

A couple of other options you can try are to turn of HDMI device link on your PS5 and program your tv remote to turn on your PS5 instead. If you have an LG TV then you can also try the settings outlined in this reddit post and see if that solves the issue. Hope that helps!

Uh no, you fill out a Schedule C - Profit or Loss from business. The amount from you 1099k goes on line 1a. Cost of goods sold goes in line 4. Part 2 of that form has the line items for your expenses.

I don't have it to update automatically, though.

you sure have alot of problems with stuff

Not to get too sidetracked but I'm not running a business, and it didn't sound like the person I was quoting was running a business either. If you buy/sell games as a business, it would be a diff approach but lots of people get 1099k that are not running businesses. Additionally, I'd assume most people rule their taxes with software or directly with their tax accountant, and aren't filling out forms themselves anyway.

Don't funking pretend you are all perfect and never have any issues with stuff. Grow up.
not trying to call you out or embarrass you, just an observation. ive always heard some people have wacky body chemistry that messes with electronics and I wondered if you experience that in some way. even hdmi cec shouldn't turn off your tv because you turn off your playstation unless you set it up that way.

If you get a 1099k you fill out a schedule C per the IRS.

Gig worker, freelancer, hobby seller and other self-employed – You're considered a sole proprietor and should report Form 1099-K payment information on – Schedule C (Form 1040), Profit or Loss from Business (Sole Proprietorship).

I agree that intent matters but tbh, I don't really begrudge people who buy one with the intent to sell as long as it's just ONE and they didn't use bots.
Even just limiting scalping to that would make a world of difference imo.

just noticed on psdirect that the pro and portal says Available exclusively via direct.playstation.com. while the edge doesn't. let's see if that was just a mistake

Never forget.

Closest I've come to scalping (but doesn't really count) is when I bought Ring Fit Adventure for $70 in 2019, played it a while, then sold it used for over $200 on eBay when all the gyms closed in spring 2020. Bought a new copy again a year later when it was back in stock. Ahhh that was an awesome feeling. Now I get why scalpers do it. 🤣

Closest I got was buying a Wii just to play Twilight Princess, beating it, and then selling it at cost to a friend.

Free rental for me.

Closest I got was trading a Little Mac amiibo for a Wii Fit Trainer amiibo circa 2015. I had two MSRP Little Macs and no Wii Fit Trainers before the trade.

Dunno why, this comment brought back all the memories of hunting for Amiibos during their early years... I think I bought at least a 100 Amiibo, including many duplicates since the only way to get some of them was to trade for them.

I remember trading some rare Amiibo (Palutena?) for a CIB N64 gam e- they were both going for about the same amount on eBay but I only paid like $15 or whatever for Palutena so I was like, win for me!

They're now all sitting in a box in my closet.

Way I see it, if you’ve been in the hobby for awhile, or some cases pretty much life, you understand the product and the companies involved, as much as an average consumer can; some buying and selling is fine. A good thing even, done in moderation, to subsidize the hobby. If it’s just for profit, if just targeting limited product, using unfair advantages or exploits like bots, if you have no involvement in what you are selling, like Rettbone; all of those are some of the things where I find it distasteful. Just buying and selling your stuff, I don’t think that’s where the line is.

I got to wonder why anyone would have bought 12? Wiiu. Unless they're like 25$ per.
Oh, if you look close there’s way more than 12 there it seems like. Looks like at least 13 cases behind the front row and I think those case packs held 2 each, so at least 32 WiiUs this lady thought she was gonna retire on? Kind of makes me glad the WiiU failed to see those smug resellers get theirs.

Kind of nice that the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster will be a $10 upgrade from the original rather than a new purchase.

There is not a similar offer for the Until Dawn remaster, is there?
