Hard pass then. I dabbled in Genshin but I don't think I have the patience for the grind. That and getting characters.

Makes me miss ff record keeper. Could just set it to auto grinding reliably.

I’m about 90% sure that if I did nothing but play games from my backlog for the next 365 days, without breaking to work, eat, evacuate, or rest, I still wouldn’t get the whole thing done.

So please don’t curse me like that.
That’s almost 9000 hours if you literally mean every second of a year on games. That’s got to be enough, you can do it!

Is the sale resetting? My buddy and I noticed some stuff ends the 7th but the sale goes to the 17th hoping for some new stuff added.
No, some things are just ending earlier than others.

*The Holiday Sale promotion runs from Friday, December 20 00.00am PST/GMT/JST until Friday, January 17 11:59 PM PST/GMT/JST. Some titles in the promotion are only discounted until January 6. Please check the individual product pages on PlayStation Store for more information.

I don't have a "ten favorites" or "ten best" or anything like that. I spent most the damn year playing Balatro, Mario Wonder, and (replaying) Persona 5 or Persona 5 Royal.

So what I've got are "the ten games released in 2024 that I'll get to in 2025, with any luck."

In order of release:

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
LaD: Infinite Wealth
Persona 3 Reload
Unicorn Overlord
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Sonic x Shadow Generations
Mario & Luigi Brothership
Dragon Age Veilguard

Honorable mention: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (because I own the rest physically but this one is functionally digital-only, so, eh)

EDIT: Yeah, VoH is also digital, but it's an expansion
What I really like about this list....is you know you are going to add way more than that to your backlog because of random deals you find....like I snapped up Pepper Griner becuase it was $8.34 and a PS5 game...who knows when (or IF) I'll ever play it..but a PS5 game under $10...sold

It's bold of you to assume that's my entire backlog. I own 50-65 PS5 games and I don't need the fingers of both hands ro count the ones I've played. Switch is even more embarrassing. PS4...

And, yeah, it's because I pick up random shit cheap or on clearance and then never get to it. Monark is one i picked up for PS5 as a cheap Persona-like and have still not so much as opened it.

I have Monark too...the exact same thing....and do not even get me started on Steam...that's just ridicoulous

I actually created a list on dekudeals.com so that I make sure I do not buy a game I already own (again) lol

That’s what I tell myself with cheap games. it’s the price of a fast food meal so I always end up just getting it.like the chicken chipotle bowl is just under $10 a Panera bread soup is $8

What's the next big sale event like the Xmas or 30th level or are they all the same?

Trying to decide if I wanna buy the ff7s for my backlog or just wait and get them later.

Just finally started horizon forbidden West. Still have god of war and Ragnarok, got, bloodborne (if I play it) and last of us part 1.

If only the Portal had more functionality, I would consider getting it. Given you can get an Android based handheld system in a similar price range do everything the Portal can plus emulation and Android gaming makes the Portal such a bad value proposition.

Sony and half-assed handhelds. A story as old as time...

I totally understand the logic there, but the portal just works so flawlessly for me. I tried remote play on steam deck and other devices and it just involved so much tinkering and I never had a perfect experience play that way so I stopped. The portal is pick up and play with no tinkering, the ergonomics are great, and has all the dualsense haptic features. I find myself playing a lot more games having one so for me it was a great purchase. But I got it with gamestop credit so definitely makes the price tag easier.

I love my Portal too. I was originally going to buy it on Dell since I had some free money there, but I ended up buying the 30th Anniversary edition instead even though I had to pay for it all out of my own pocket - no regrets. It did make me think about how strong the PS brand is because Xbox has a headstart on cloud gaming infrastructure - you don't need a device or app to play there. You can stream straight from a web browser and not have to buy anything more than the Game Pass Ultimate subscription, but here, I was fine with paying $220 for a dedicated device (that I admittedly use often) and doesn't even support the full streaming catalog yet.

Sony launching the Vita and then immediately afterward leaving it for dead was mind-boggling.

I personally believe that it was too hard to profit off of $40 MSRP physical game distribution, and a niche product / install base. Owners loved it, but that didn't matter. Tho it kind of paved the way for the Switch's roadmap to success.

The Vita was great especially the OLED screen. It just didn't get the software support and the proprietary memory card was pricey.

The Vita learned nothing from the PSP and didn’t have Monster Hunter to bail it out. Sony pushed it as a multimedia device/phone competitor instead of focusing on the games. They used an alternative, overpriced memory card. They went too hard on power instead of pushing for a more competitive price point. And they actually stripped functionality the PSP had out, the ability to be hooked up to an external monitor; they even recognized there might be a market for that, but decided to sell that functionality as a completely separate device. The PSP is one of the most successful dedicated gaming devices ever made, and the only handheld to successfully challenge Nintendo, and Sony lost ALL of that in a single generation. I haven’t seen a console company fumble that hard since Sega screwed up in the lead up to the 5th generation.

Anyone have any advice on getting a discount on the PS Plus Essential subscription? Mine expires next month and CDKeys only has a 5% discount. I am really kicking myself for not trying to get this done last Black Friday as I thought I had more time before it expired.

Vita was a beeaast. No handheld felt as comfortable to play as the Vita Slim IMO, perfect shape and lightweight. Outdated today, but super impressive hardware for 2012.

My dream is that, one day, Sony builds a new smartphone-handheld hybrid with a fold-out controller, much like they did with the Xperia Play. But, this time, have it run on [a weaker version of] the same architecture as the PS6 - kinda like the Series X vs. Series S difference, but more drastic. This is much more technically feasible now than it was 15 years ago, since console CPUs are using PC-like architecture now.

Why? So they can mark non-graphics-intensive games (indies, etc.) as "mobile-compatible" and boom, you suddenly have instant cross-buy/cross-saves between your phone and your PS6, at least for some portion of your library. Very much like the "Steam Deck Verified" thing on Steam - when you buy a PC game, you don't expect it to work on the Deck if it's super high-end, but for lower-end games, it is a nice bonus. In fact, Sony did something slightly similar years ago with PlayStation Mobile (one platform that worked on both Android and Vita).

All this could be done with just a non-smartphone handheld too, but having it function as a smartphone would be a massive boost. I don't want to carry more things around in my pockets than I have to. People are way more willing to drop $1k+ on a new phone than they were when the Xperia came out, so maybe there's a market for it even if it gets pricey to build.

ha.

that was SO over, more than a year ago. Yep, hate it.

I used to buy mine for $30-$40 all the time at CDkeys too. Those days are gone. You didn't miss anything man; it's $80+ now.

If you're going to play Suicide Squad, there's a fairly easy way to get one of the four battle passes for free.

They have the first three on sale for 500 coins of the paid currency instead of 1000, but you can start earning 100 from each of the battle passes since that's the first free reward. You just pick one to start, play the game until the first tier is unlocked and switch to another battle pass. You'll have 400 coins, so you can get the last 100 by getting to the 14th tier on whatever battle pass you want to unlock. It's not too hard to get by just running around and taking out the little groups of enemies with an alien cannon or whatever hanging out on a rooftop that drops xp for the battle pass along with other quests.
