I'm sure the pricing they have now is just a way of testing a lot of different approaches.

$0.15/hour according to Wikipedia, but I heard on NPR that this week the house of representatives will bring to the floor H.R. 370 which raises this rate to $0.22/hour. it's expected to pass the house without amendment along party lines.
 
$5 for 4 hours is bad. $3 would be OK for a new release. Myself, I don't play for 4 hours a day, or at least that would be very uncommon. So 4 hours would be more gaming than I'd fit into a 24 hour period. As a result that's essentially a 1 day rental for me. In that light the price isn't too outrageously horrendous. But they have to compete with Redbox too and that's $1.50 or $1.75 or something for a day. You have to go to the Redbox and their selection is limited, so I don't think they have to match the price, but the should get it closer. And on the other hand, eventually Redbox will have PS4 games for rent everywhere, and PSNow will have none of that. So I guess I just convinced myself that they should be priced the same as Redbox. Ha.

But like someone else said, it is even more reasonable if they are talking 4 hours gameplay, vs just 4 hours from rental.

- as long as it's 4 actual gameplay hours, not 4 hours from when you hit purchase. I'm sure that pausing and going to the bathroom counts against you which would suck since a lot of my life revolves around playing, pausing to do something, coming back a few minutes later, playing for 2 minutes, pausing again, etc. but if I 'rent' it at 9pm and I lose it at exactly 1am, I will literally never look at the service again. I assume it won't be this way based on the full demo capabilities from ps3.

- as usual, the $/hr ratio is still on par or better than a lot of entertainment (e.g. movies, netflix depending on how much you _actually_ use it, etc)

- I have to assume that the prices scale - even if $3 / 4h feels high, maybe it'll be $10/24h. If I felt I could be done with a game completely in 24 gameplay hours, $10 wouldn't feel like stinging slap face.

- $5 is too much for 4 hours as far as I'm concerned but moreover variable pricing is idiotic - each title should cost the same. If someone wants to spend $300 renting FFXIII to plat it go for it, but there shouldn't be any ratio or randomizing in pricing between titles.

- $2 would definitely be better. So would $1 and free.

I'm guessing you guys don't have access to PS Now? I think the prices are something like:

$3-$5 for 4 hours

$5-$10 for 7 days

$7-$20 for 30 days

$15-$30 for 90 days

To me, the only price that way too expensive is the 4 hour one.

But it all varies from game to game. I think Saints Row only had the option for 4 hours @ $5 or 90 days @ $30 which isn't ideal at all.

The Gold Medal trophy has a pretty high completion rate on PSN Profiles. I should be able to do it, when I was playing through them last time I didn't have a fully leveled up character.

I don't remember, can you start on Hard from the get-go in the original? I hope you can in the new version.

have access but didn't bother verifying snakey's info. that actually makes it look like it'll be a literal four hours, but the other prices almost look downright reasonable. much ado about nothing.

did you happen to notice if enslaved is available to stream for free if you'd previously purchased it? that's going to be a big one for me.

I don't know of any digital rental service that goes by when you purchase instead of when you actually start up the thing you've rented, so I don't think that would be something to worry.

Somebody here should rent a game and let us know if there's a limit for when it has to be started, like 30 days for most movies, and all that.

4 hours is pretty good for a "I have a buddy over and we want to play something for the afternoon" type of thing. I'd be surprised if there aren't options for a day or two or even a week, though I'm interested on seeing if certain publishers charge more compared to others.

When the original first released, you had to beat the game on Normal first, but since the patch, you can unlock Hard Mode right away using an input code on the title screen:

No but I checked Crazy Taxi which I own on PSN and I wasn't able to play it for free.

Platted Stranger's Wrath... I wasn't going to fuck around with it anymore after that heart attack snakey gave me last night.

I'm just glad the games I claimed in the "free" period are still good to use.

I would expect a 2x-4X inflation over redbox similar to how cable companies often have the same movies to rent on demand as redbox but charge you extra for the convenience of not having to leave your home.

My guess is it is 4 hours and then jumps to 1 week as the next tier so that it is not possible to complete the short singleplayer games with a single 4 hour rental as most of those games have a minimum of 5-6 hours of content.

I think the PS Now prices are pretty fair. Obviously, cheapassgamers are not the target market. There are probably a lot of people who buy a game at $60 only to play it for a couple of hours and never pick it up again, or don't like it and trade it in for much less than they paid for it.

People are also comparing it to Gamefly and Redbox - well, you need to wait a couple of days for GF to ship you the game, and you need to have Redbox in your area and you have the responsibility of returning the game on time. PS Now is for the convenience and immediate gratification. I could see them carving out a healthy segment of the market based on this. I mean, there is always room for improvement. PS+ was a bag of dicks when it first started too and look at it now.

it's also the only way to play ps3 games on a ps4 / vita / supported sony tv. so if you just picked up that shiny 55" bravia that supports psnow you could grab a dualshock and play uncharted 3 on it. in theory. emotion engine.
 
I finished Heavy Rain last night. I enjoyed it. The character models are pretty amazing and lifelike. Wonder what that team will be able to do on the PS4. The gameplay or lack there of could be annoying at times, feel like I failed some button presses that weren't my fault because I did the motions right but they didn't register.

I saved Shaun and Ethan lived but Norman Jayden died because I missed a few late button presses or stick motions while fighting Scott Shelby. Kind of annoying but I figure with a world-wide manhunt they'll catch him and Ethan will be happy with his new family, Madison and Shaun. Also quick note, if you were Ethan running around getting screwed up trying to save your son from a psychopath wouldn't you wise up and bring some bandages, painkillers, and other crap along with you?

Might watch some other endings on youtube at some point but don't think I'd play it again, happy with it as a one-off.

The original Crysis was a lot of fun. I even got the plat for it. I would go with that but only because I thought Doom 3 was just okay and I havent played Stranger's Wrath. But apparently Kracker likes it and many others have as well.

Not very long and most of the games I've been playing have been short. I also play a lot on the vita. I was lucky to get a good solid 3-4 hours of gaming in last night (which is super rare) and that allowed me to finish off Heavy Rain.

 
They should announce the July PS+ games today because I am impatient.

And PS Blog EU guy is saying no to Guacamelee being a PS+ game in July.

For anyone waiting on a sale on Child of Light, I'm pretty sure it will be on sale next week. I base this on the fact that I'm broke and only have $2.xx in my PSN wallet.

I don't really want it, it just seemed like an easy bet based on release date and the fact that it's another PS3 game. And I want it more than Flow, Flower, Escape Plan, Sound Shapes, and Super Motherload which, since I own them, I assume will be the next 5 PS4 PS+ games.

 
The big problem with PSNow as rental service is you can't rent PS4 games with it. That just makes no sense. Why not include PS4 games? Even if they restrict them to being played on a PS4 that would be alright. Then I could try new games out.

I think I forgot about this. This is a nice feature for someone like me who would get rid of his PS3 when I buy a PS4.

Do we know if PSNow will allow you to download and play games you paid for on PSN (for PS3) and play them on PS4, Vita or a Sony TV?

Hopefully with my new lease on backlog when the PS4 gen is over I'll be able to dump it when I get a PS5. As it stands though I can't forsee dumping my PS3 in the near future. It may be time to dump my PS2 9000 and PSOne with LCD screen though.

You can't download them, that would require built in backwards compatibility. You only stream from PS Now. And I highly doubt that owning licenses for the games on the PS3 means you'll be able to stream them for free on your PS4. Like I said I tried earlier with Crazy Taxi and it didn't let me play it for free.

at least at one point psnow showed whether or not you purchased a game available for streaming with the little shopping bag. I'll hold out hope.
