looking for some perspective on what to tackle next from my backlog. After I wrap up Uncharted 2, have the following options:

-Enslaved

-Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen

-Saints Row 3

-XCOM Enemy Unknown

-Shadow of the Colossus

-ICO

-Binary Domain

-Bioshock Infinite

-Brothers A Tale of Two Sons

-Metro Last Light

-Payday 2

-Ibb and Obb

-Tomb Raider

-Remember Me

-Puppeteer

-Hitman Absolution

-Infamous 2
Since you just played a 3rd person shooter I wouldn't play any of those on the list. Ico or Shadow of the Colossus would be a nice change of pace.

I just started playing terraria the other day. I guess just like minecraft...I don't get it. I suppose I'm not creative enough and I need to play games where I have a specific goal to reach. Although my 7 yo can spend countless hours on minecraft.

Ill keep giving it a shot since its easily accessible on the vita and I have plenty of downtime at work to play on it.
Teraria is kinda like a metroidvania game within the trappings of a crafting game. Build up a base to protect you at night and from that point journey out and down to find materials to craft superior armor, weapons, and tools which allow you to go deeper. Use those weapons to more easily defeat enemies and to take on the game's bosses. It's a lot more combat focused than minecraft which is probably why I like it, it's more "gamey."

This is the last week for Sony to do another 15 for 12 months PS+ deal as mine expires Friday night. It'll be good to not worry about losing the card I've been hoarding since Black Friday. Y'all remember I called it when it doesn't happen.
I redeemed my card a couple days after E3. I was up in July anyway.

Since you just played a 3rd person shooter I wouldn't play any of those on the list. Ico or Shadow of the Colossus would be a nice change of pace.
Teraria is kinda like a metroidvania game within the trappings of a crafting game. Starbound should release already on PS4. I want that. Minecraft is ok. I like the 2D feel more for this type of game.

I kind of think we wont see those specials again. I do not think we have seen one of those promotions since Sony decided to start having sales on the PS+ subscription price. I hope I am wrong though since I have 2 or 3 sitting in a drawer waiting to be redeemed myself. Luckily, I can wait 2 more years to hope for a sale.

I cant ev3n build a shelter. To bored to watch a youtube video about how to. Theres no home or even part of a home in my crafting screen.

I haven't quite been able to get into Terraria. It's funnish, but I couldn't stick with it. I keep meaning to go back and try it again to see if it will finally fully click, but I never seem to get around to it. Also if I ended up loving it then Tyler would have to hate it and I just can't bring myself to do that him.

Thats what I said. You live in the US. I assume you are a citizen. If you are a citizen I assume you would rather be here then any other shit hole country. Cheer for other teams for whatever reason as long as it isnt OVER the US team. Otherwise you are a traitor like RPG.
The USA should dominate all sports like they do the Super Bowl. We win that sucker every year. Nobody else comes close. Buncha pansies.

Yeah, I had to cash one in last week. I was kinda bummed. I have two more in reserve, though.

Music wise, I was raised on Sabbath, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Megadeth, Ozzy (with fucking Randy Rhoads), Iron Maiden, so on, so forth. I enjoy a lot of genres now, but Metal is my one true love. Current favorite band is The Sword, even when their kick ass drunmer departed. In the prog department, I liked Coheed and Cambria, but after Burning Star IV part 1, they sold out. Mago de Oz is another awesome band.
I listen to metal for the most part as well, and though I've listened to most of what you mentioned, I'm not a huge fan of the classic stuff. Power metal and prog mostly is what I like. Not a big fan of the stuff with unintelligible lyrics for the most part, though there's a bit with enough of a melodic bent to be enjoyable. Some of my favorites are Ayreon, Angel Dust, mid-period Blind Guardian, Rage (not RaTM), Savatage, Keldian, Virgin Steele, etc.. I've been finding a lot of newer stuff I'm really getting into lately, which is nice.

What does that mean? I don't understand the concept of a band selling out. I wasn't a big fan of their last album but every other one I enjoyed immensely.
It's an accusation that the band went from staying true to their initial style or inspiration to going mainstream. A good example of this is Metallica with Load--lots of people absolutely loved the Black album, and it's still regarded as their best, but Load was very much a change from that.

Usually it's a bullshit accusation, to be honest. Using the same example of Metallica, if you look at their albums prior to the Black album they're a lot more hardcore and weren't near as popular. The Black album could more accurately be called their sell-out point than Load, IMO, if you were going to use that kind of argument. It's natural for bands to change their music over the years, but people who get hung up on a golden age of a band generally want them to make more of that music rather than changing as things naturally do.

We need a 'dislike' button so I can use it whenever someone recommends Binary Domain.
How can you not like Binary Domain? Did you like Terminator and I, Robot starring Will Smith? This is the game version of those movies!

Yeah, I can't figure it out either. You have to build one from scratch: gather wood and stone and then build walls and doors. But I've never been able to do it in the tutorial and that's where my experience ended.

On the topic of PS+ renewals, I was surprised to get an email from Sony telling me my Plus expires on March 8th, 2014. No, that's not a typo, Sony actually tried to tell me my Plus expired 3 months ago. Since I didn't even get a PS3 till last August I knew something was off so checked my account and Plus actually expires 8/3/14 for me. Apparently the way Sony sends their emails screws up the date calculation for Plus expiration...

Few sales this week.  I know I should wait til 75% off or free with my backlog, but I think I'll grab Dustforce ($5.59) and OlliOlli ($6.29) since I've been waiting on both for quite a while.

The problem with Coheed isn't that their sound changed, its that their albums had a narrative, which they developed album by album. They don't sound the same, because it symbolized how the main character grew throughout the story. In Burning Star IV part 2, they didn't even follow it up, and that album sounded nice, but didn't have the depth of the others. Then, they basically went in another direction with the story, going "back to where it began", rewriting the entire world and not staying true to the journey the album narrates of the characters they write.

OlliOlli just had (or is about to have) a big bugfix and feature update. I've no idea if Dustforce ever fixed the framerate issues, though. I have looked and can't find anything about it. Make sure you look into that before buying, if you're not already aware of that problem. Framerate drops in a precision platformer are not fun.

I didn't address the accusation for them specifically, just the question he asked about what "selling out" means for a band. I do like C&H, but don't follow them enough to know about the above. Based on that description I would not refer to what they did as selling out, though. That sounds like something entirely different.

Those are the two I'm tempted by as well. Though they seem like such prime Plus candidates that I'm going to try and hold off, then probably ultimately fail at that as I listen to all you assholes rave about them in here.

I grew up listening to punk/hardcore/grindcore/etc, slide sideways into experimental electronic/rhythmic noise/idm, and now probably would rather listen to Pink Floyd over anything else. I don't totally understand how that happened, but it did.
I still have my days were I need some of my old punk I grew up listening to get by. I listen to lots of music but as a kid I loved the Punk and a metal scene. Also was a time where I loved a West Coast Power violence but can't listen to that anymore. The punk music in the 80's was great music.

I currently use a plasma and before that used a 60hz TV for gaming and never noticed an issue or difference between the two. Most people are like me and wont notice the difference. If your TV is more than a couple years old its most likely 60hz and if it didnt bother you before it wont bother you now.
My tv does 240hz, I keep it in 60 almost all the time. I don't like the soap opera effect on my movies.

Just looked at the store post. I'm honestly annoyed about Liberation HD. I don't believe the Vita version has even gone that low yet and it's been out two years, but the much newer (1/14/14) port is that price? Thanks, Sony.

They keep the price high as a warning. Friend lent that to me and after I platted it, I ended the friendship.

Too bad they did not put the AC Liberation HD and Freedom Cry Bundle on an even better sale than they did for each individual one.  That might have gotten me off the fence.  I am leaning toward getting Liberation HD though since I wanted to play it, but I wanted nothing to do with the online trophies on the Vita version.

Did you play Bloodlines(PSP)? If so, how did that compare? I do have Liberation HD because Greenmangaming had a glitch where it was $4 prior to release, but I still have to go through 2, B, R, and 3 before Liberation. :)

I'm a huge fan of music and play in a band myself. I for the life of me have no understanding as to why people enjoy Pink Floyd so much. There music just depresses the shit out of me. It's so slow and prodding and it drives me insane, like I'm waiting for a payoff and it never comes. I can't stand the singing either because it matches the music. Slow and drawn out. I love a ton of music but Floyd aint it for me.

Rush on the other hand is awesome. They are a love or hate type band; I'd I feel like a lot of that has to do with Geddy Lee's voice. They are one band though that I've seen live where I was like no seriously I can't believe how friggin talented these guys are. They are on another level.

I parked MGS4 over the weekend after literally just starting it to play some more Brothers A Tale of Two Sons. I ran into a nasty glitch in Chapter 2. A cutscene didn't trigger and I tried picking up from my save point to no luck. I had to restart the chapter from the beginning which kind of sucked.
It was where the lady troll or giant thing is locked in the cage and you have to steal a key from the giant guard. The cutscene never triggered so I was unable to grab the key.
I later learned the bug was common as it happened on other platforms as well. A heads up for anyone starting this game.

The OlliOlli patch is due out today. Any minute, actually. Might already be out. FYI, the game had an obnoxious crash bug. This patch fixes it supposedly. I think there's some other improvements too, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

At least that's only like 30 minutes in. It's not too bad.

Liberation felt more like a full AC as compared to Bloodlines but it's still not up to the par of the console counterparts. I played both on the PSP and Vita respectively. I'm not sure if the upgrade was large when it went HD. I enjoyed both Bloodlines and Liberation for what they were. Smaller versions of AC. Liberation was longer and more polished though.

Didn't play Bloodlines. Liberation was ok, the trophies were drawn out and made it repetitive. Unity has the potential to be the first enjoyable AC with a decent trophy list since AC2.

Crashing is part of skating, so they shouldn't be getting rid of it to appease bad players. :whistle2:(

It wouldn't be too bad if I didn't waste a good 20 mins or so trying to figure out what the hell I was doing wrong before realizing the game was glitched. It also wouldn't be as bad if the save point was the fix and not the chapter which led to another 15-20 mins to get back to that point. I have limited gaming time as it is.

There are. They added cross-buy/cross-save with PS3/PS4. They also fixed the leaderboards. Previously it was worldwide, now you get to see your friends properly.

And yes, the crash bug is supposed to be fixed. I did run into that 3-4 times. It didn't bother me much, luckily, but some people got it over and over again.

The press release on the patch, btw: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2014/06/03/olliolli-update-big-fix-leaderboards-cross-buy-news-giveaway/

I ended up getting the OlliOlli crash over and over. Supposedly switching to airplane mode *might* help, but I never bothered to do that. I've been waiting for the patch. Maybe dumb, but I had plenty of other stuff to play so I could wait. And yes it is a very fun game, though I'm not great at it.

I am not clear on if this patch includes the leaderboard improvements. They said there was going to be two patches in june, and I believe this is the first one, so that would seem to imply that it doesn't have it. Unless they decided to combine the two patches into one.

I am so glad Unity isn't going to have competitive multiplayer. Maybe I could actually plat that one.

All of the sale prices are still too high for me--I would prefer everything that's ~$10 to be closer to $5, and everything that's close to $5, I'd prefer to be closer to $2.50. :nottalking:

To build a shelter in Terraria, pick a nice sized open area, I built in a small valley, and completely enclose your shelter with building materials or doors, there can be no open gaps. It is 2D, but you are in a 3D world so obviously a house with only 2 walls and a ceiling won't keep zombies out so you have to put up the background wall throughout your entire house (wood or better). Within that house a room needs a light source, a table, and a chair for an merchant to move into it, one enclosed room per NPC. To stop zombies from opening doors, put the room's chair up against them so that they can only open outward, you and NPCs can pass through chairs.

I put in a wood platform in the basement of my house so that I can drop through to begin mining down. Put in a proper background wall at the start of your tunnel so that zombies don't spawn in there, then build a short horizontal tunnel with a door (with background wall up till that door) and place a chair on the shelter side to prevent enemies from accessing your shelter from below.

I had that same bug in Brothers and it took me a good 30 minutes of running around trying to figure shit out before I have up and looked it up. Next try went through like butta. Enjoyable little game.

If you want some more upbeat Floyd, try some older stuff like "Free Four" or "See Emily Play" or "The Nile Song" or "Arnold Layne" or "One Of These Days" or "Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk". At The Drive-in has a great cover of the latter also if you're so inclined.

AC3 MP was not that bad actually. I am not even sure if I bothered boosting it. There was a lot of insane single player grinds in that one though. Most of the other ones have been a complete PITA when it comes to MP though, you are right.
