Surprisingly The Last Movie You Saw Didn't Suck Pt. 2

Go, No Country and TWBB were all great films.

Rurouni Kenshin live action - was pretty decent, not seen the anime but will take a look into it. I liked the fight choreography, which is why I watched it mainly. I could go for some recommendations with cool swordfight movies.

Why did you not like it?
I haven't seen it for a few years, but I remember disliking
the way the story was done. Especially how the guy you're supposed to be following just sort of dies off screen and out of nowhere. I thought the ending was pretty poor too

Again, it's been awhile since I've seen it, those are just two things I remember disliking.

I guess those are good reasons. I need to watch it again. Been too long and I've forgotten it.

I havent seen No Country in a long time but I remember thinking it was kind of lame and boring- same goes for TWBB. not my cup of tea

Let Me In - 3/5. Best vampire movie I've seen thus far. Really well shot, though the story wrapped up with a pretty lukewarm ending.

Daybreakers 0.5/5. Worst vampire movie I've seen.

They're two different types of films. The Swedish version is more of a drama then the American version. That being said, I loved both of them. The Swedish version is a little bit longer and doesn't really focus on the horror aspect of it, which follows the book, but I had no problem with adding more, although a bit more cliche, horror tropes to the film.

City of Men (2007)
It's about the young gangs within Brazil's favelas and I couldn't stop thinking about it for the entire day (and I watched other movies that day too) - such a vicious cycle. Makes me want to complete the Max Payne 3 campaign now.

Frozen - Amazing movie, definitely deserving of the critical acclaims.  It is very magical, and heart-warming.  Stay away unless you want to walk away with a warm feeling in your heart.

Elysium - all about Sharlto Copley in the film. Otherwise it was a standard action movie with a message. Jodie foster's way of talking was strange in this.

Thor 2- Kat Dennings annoyed me and the movie was a bit too silly at times, but overall it was decent. I hope the the rest of the Phase two movies stop mentioning the events of the Avengers.

Gravity- Great filmmaking, story was just decent.

Considering Cap 2 has scenes that were cut out of Avengers, it will continue for one more movie.

GotG will likely make mention (probably in the Stinger) of Thanos or the Infinity Gems, but probably not directly like previous films.

Cap 2 shouldn't be surprising since Avengers was originally going to focus more on him and most of the good guys were front and center in Avengers. And it makes sense considering how much that film shook up the MCU.

Monsters University: 3/5, decent enough movie but a lot of contrived plot.  Lot more could have been done I think.

Pacific Rim: 3/5.  Looks great on Blu Ray and the mechs are fantastic but the Asian chick really annoyed me and the story was all over the place at times.

Dredd.  One of the best Die Hard rip-offs I've ever seen.  Highly enjoyable for what it was and I can't believe
Karl Urban didn't show his face at all for the entire movie.

The Iceman - 4/5 - Very great movie. Amazing performances from Michael Shannon, Winona Ryder and Chris Evans (yes, Captain America). The only thing holding this film back was the direction. It wasn't bad, but just generic.

Good performances but couldn't help but feel tv movie vibe from it at times. Like you said it's the direction.

Said he wouldn't have done the movie if the script called for that to happen.

Dredd is probably my favorite movie of the last 3 years.

Probably cause LotR was 1500 pages shrunk to 3 movies, while the Hobbit is 300 pages stretched to 3 movies..

Been thinking since my last post, I think it's partly because I didn't care for any of the characters whereas in fellowship of the ring I got attached to them rather quickly and rooted for them.

The length of book vs film is a reductionist way of looking at it, but yeah, The Hobbit does suffer from a lack of any compelling direction. The characters do suck, really. Bilbo had zero development, he just sort of became brave in that instant with the trolls. And that's fine for a children's story maybe, which this is, but I have no interest in that sort of thing. There will still be cool scenes worth seeing in each of these movies but overall I see them as bloated pieces of fanservice. The orc villain was supposed to tie some sense of drama to the movie (and he's back in the next film, it seems), but what a dumb back story that was.

It might have made for an excellent TV series, I think. Or even a series of those awesome narrative sequences like the movie opened with, depicting the history of dwarves and the Smaug attack. I even enjoyed the break to the Brown wizard's life in the forest. Would have been cool to just have a Tolkien movie of short stories, you know?

Warrior - Good film with great performances from all 3 leads. I did I have one or two issues with the ending but I won't let it tarnish the earlier parts of the film.
