Personal foul. Hitting too hard, On the 49ers.

Can we get a minimum height requirement to play QB in the NFL? The strike zone is too small as it is.

lol Ray Lewis and Dilfer going in on the league and the soft ass bitch Brees.

Actually busted out the credit card and offered to pay half the fine if Brooks receives one.

Patriots robbed again, final drive for the lead in the end zone, refs threw a pass interference flag against Carolina. Refs picked up flag, and then like ah never mind, game over.

The penalty would have been called, but the INT cancelled it.
So I can hold a player and carry him to the back of end zone against his will, as long as my teammate intercepts the ball, means no penalty? Well EVERY teams should do that then lol.....because no that's not how it works.

I think the problem was the refs deemed the ball under thrown and uncatchable.

Either way Carolina played a hell of a game and will be interesting when they play the Saints.

I think the correct call was made.  The ball was under thrown, and therefore deemed uncatchable by the referees.  Gronkowski didn't try to make a move back to the ball to try and give evidence to the possibility that he could catch it.  Also, the ball was intercepted, so even if Kouchley didn't hold him and Gronkowski managed to get around him, he'd still have to contend with Lester who made a move on the ball itself and intercepted it around the same time that the foul was occurred.

However, they should have said why they were picking up the flag on the field.  I think that was a mistake, but that's ultimately pointless in the grand scheme of things.

No that's not how that penalty works. It's defensive holding and it occurred before the interception. You can't pick that flag up once it's thrown, awful job again by officials.

Gronk couldn't move back to the ball cause he was being bear hugged!

No one is gonna cry for the Patriots not getting a call though.

Pretty sure we got away with defensive holding (not interference). I mean, Gronk looked like he wasn't even trying to go for the ball and just accepted it until the flag came out. Oh well. Very exciting game -- the most I've been into a game in years. Glad to see Cam step up and make some clutch plays and loved Smitty afterwards going after Talib ("Ice up, son!").  Hope we can keep it rolling into the playoffs and perhaps further.

I hate the patriots at much as he next guy but they got hosed on that call. What a chickenshit pickup of the flag.

The man shows his burning desire to win, so he is a bitch for that?
Exactly. Everyone likes to dump on Brady, who's only one of the top 5 QBs of all-time. My favorite is when Jets fans would call Brady pretty boy when their QB was busy on the cover of GQ and banging every starlet he could get his hands on.

Most QBs, hell most people, who cared about winning would have done the same thing after the game. Especially since the non-call was complete bullshit.

Massive Giant fan, and I have nothing but respect for Tom Brady. One of the greatest QBs of all-time, makes the most of the skill positions around him, and wants to do nothing but win. I'd be pissed too if a flag was thrown and then picked up with zero explanation...just "there was no penalty on the play." How?

It would have been way better if the refs could at least give a way better explanation then lol flagged picked up game over laterz.

That ball wasn't being caught by gronk either way though.

Yes, he is a bitch. He didn't congratulate his opponent at the end of the game, instead chasing after the officials as if it's going to magically change everything. Here's an idea: Don't let it come down to the final play of the game. Do something in the other 59 minutes of the game, and little incidents like this won't happen. In any case....

It wasn't interference because it wasn't a catchable ball, even without the "defensive holding" by Kuechly, he still has to beat out 2 defenders on a badly underthrown ball from 4-5 yards in front of him, no way in hell that happens. Right call (or non call) was made.

Apparently the VP of officiating agrees with me:

"The issue isn't the contact [between Kuechly and Gronkowski], the issue is the restriction and does it occur prior to the ball being touched," Blandino explained Tuesday during his segment on the NFL Network. "At full speed the officials made a tight judgment call and they determined that the restriction occurred just as the ball was being touched [by Panthers safety Robert Lester]. Again, at full speed you can see why they made that call."

Following the game, Blakeman defended the decision, saying Gronkowski's distance from the ball rendered the pass uncatchable and there was "a determination that, in essence, uncatchability -- that the ball was intercepted at or about the same time the primary contact against the receiver occurred."

Ball not catchable? Gronk is a freak of nature, with a wingspan of a terra dactyl. Only two TE's could of made a play for the ball, Gronk and Graham. The foul was initiated about 3 yards in the end zone before the defensive player bear hugged Gronk and carried him to the back of end zone, and guess where the ball was thrown....yep right where the foul started. The Panthers LB was guilty of pass interference, holding and face guarding (def player not making any attempt to make a play on the ball)

Well, it's a good thing you're an NFL official, so you can make these great calls from hindsight.

You are absolutely correct: the ball was catchable -- for the Carolina DB. Gronk is such a freak of nature that he allows a second year LB to "carry him to the back of the endzone"? Give me a break. Either way, Gronk is not Stretch Armstrong, so there's no way he catches that pass. He might have had it off the bounce from Brady, but unfortunately this isn't the NBA.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, at least Brady's tantrums and emotions are evocative of him caring about the game. This comes from a Vikings fan who has one QB who is consistently on the sidelines laughing and joking during ridiculously bad losses (Ponder) and another QB who clearly doesn't give a shit about improving himself or the goings on around him (Freeman). The only QB we have that shows any sort of passion for the game is Cassel but he unfortunately doesn't have the talent to carry the team.

So yeah Brady can be whiny or passionate but at the very least it shows that he cares about the game and is concerned with performing at his best every single game. I'd take that over our current QB situation in MN any day of the week.

That call is bullshit and that's the NFL covering its ass. Wake up.

A ball not being catchable has nothing to do with defensive holding and he's held before the defensive player touched the ball. They are using two penalties mixed together to justify the non-call.

The Jets did the exact same thing to Tony Gonzalez on what was almost the exact same play on a pass in the end zone and they three the flag and got the call right, where in this instance they got it wrong.

So now you can backtrack on the whole "he didn't get held until after the interception... derrrrr".

And it's a little idiotic to compare offensive holding at the line of scrimmage which arguably happens every play to defensive holding in the end zone on a pass play.

Where did I say anything about that? Maybe you should learn how to read before coming in here attacking me. *That* is a little idiotic... derrrrr.

Defensive holding (on a receiver) is much easier to spot considering it's out in the open. While I do agree that holding happens on every play, it just so happens the refs tend to "let em play" a little more often in the trenches and don't call it unless it's blatantly obvious.

Either way, there's really nothing else to say about it. What's done is done, and bitching and moaning about something that happened on Monday isn't going to change on Wednesday. Until next Sunday (or maybe Thursday?), I'm packing up my black and white referee shirt and whistle, and you guys should too.

Cute video.

Again, this all happens in hindsight. Unfortunately, the refs don't have time to freeze frame everything and analyze it Sports Science-style. You're assuming Gronk sees that the ball is underthrown and attempts to make a play on it. That's assuming Keuchly isn't in the area. That's also assuming Robert Lester is a terrible DB and can't defend a pass. "What if..." doesn't win you games. Making plays does, and the Patriots didn't make enough plays earlier in the game. Instead (and again, unfortunately), the game comes down to one play, and this is what we have. It is what it is.

Wow - they fined Brooks $16K for his hit on Brees. At least Ray Lewis is going to pay 1/2 of it.
Let's see if they do lol

That fine is more ridiculous than the call. Again, just the NFL covering their ass. I'm mad about it and don't think it's a penalty but even if I let it slide as a borderline call that can go either way, how do you throw a fine on that?

Again, Swearinger had it right. Just go at the knees and end guys careers, they are basically making you.

I have no idea why Ahmad Brooks got fined... It looked like a clean hit to me, but if defensive players are no longer allowed to tackle the QB when he has the ball, then they might as well just give the QB a couple of flags and institute flag football rules for the QB.

Lol @ the fine, thats more hilarious than people thinking Gronk would actually have anything resembling a catch on that last play flag or no flag. Nfl continuing its quest to look like a complete joke. Someone said if they are gonna fine for shit like this then they might as well aim for the head and get their moneys worth and lays these qbs out.
