Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Englewood, NJ GS is pretty much packed up completely. No signs of any heavy sales so I'm guessing they just had their workers pack all their inventory up to be sent to other stores or the warehouse.

Yeah, I’ve only ever been to the orange park store maybe twice, but the Avenues is the location closest to me, so that one hurts a little (not that I’ve been going often).
Crazy part is the OP store expanded their Pokémon section recently to be larger. It’s in a busy location, but I’m not sure how much traffic actually went through there because it’s Blanding lol

How do preorders work if the store is closing? Wanna get my credit back before they try to move it somewhere else, or worse, have it disappear

They are supposed to go to the closest store. The employee needs to do something to the POS to get them forwarded. Safest bet is to go in and cancel and then redo the preorders at the store you want to use going forward.

I think preorders are automatically transferred to the closest store in the same district, but you should ask.

Cool, figured as much. I'll go in today to check then, thanks

An email says that Pro week will begin on the 17th, and that it'll be for two weeks. Don't know if closing stores will be participating. I wonder if the inventory from closing stores will be sent to other nearby stores.

There will probably be a discount or promotion on Pro memberships, but you might want to hold off on renewing if stores near you are closing.

One of my nearby GameStops had the entire front smashed by a car in an attempted robbery last spring and it's still boarded up (while open) and locked up at night with a pad lock. I wonder if they will just close the store instead of fixing it at this point.

Edit: This is on the east coast not California.

Somehow the GameStop with the broken front near me has survived three waves of closings.

I suspect it's because the Halo 3 poster in the left window that has been there since 2007 makes it a historical landmark.

Closing my main and closest store. Quail springs OKC.
So I go in this afternoon (after stopping at Michael’s in the same shopping center to get some things framed) just to see if anyone had tried for the switch display. As I walk in some dude is asking the employee if he can have it. Guy backs up his SUV, loads it up and he is off.

Missed it by probably 90 seconds. fucking Michael‘s.

Funnily enough, that was my closest Gamestop as well. I remember trading in my PS4 there for the Pro many years ago, so I'm sad to see it close down. Would the closest one now be the one inside the mall? I could never be bothered to drive the extra 5 minutes or so and walk in to go to that one. Plus, that mall seems to be drying a slow death as well the last few times I stepped in there.

Any leaks on what the upcoming Pro Week(s) deals will be?
some of the deals I saw were
  • Pro membership will be $19.99 (normally $25)
  • Double Trade Bonus 20% (normally 10%)
  • Buy 1 Get 1 50% toys, apparel, board games, funko pops (some exclusions apply)
  • Buy 1 Get 1 50% select gaming accessories (exclusions apply, probably a lot of the typical third party PDP brand ones that normally goes on sale)
  • Double Pro Savings for Pre owned products 10% (normally 5% off pre owned)
  • 10% off select new video game hits. I only saw games like Diablo, Mario RPG and Modern Warfare 3 advertised so don’t hold your breath on any good surprises than the typical filler that has been on sale the last few months.

Gamestop Exec "Let's discount the Pro Membership to get more members"

Also Gamestop Exec "Let's close more stores so members have less places to go"

(granted labor is the most expensive part of operating a business, just seems funny to me)

Less places for people to trade in games/consoles in too. Make distance too far for people, they aren’t going to trade in their games for a few bucks. They’ll use one of the many online marketplaces or just keep them because the time & gas won’t make it worthwhile.

To be fair, some of those stores def needed to be closed. I can’t speak for other areas but there was no reason to have 3 stores in a 3 mile stretch on the same road near me.
My closest store was 6 miles away. It at least was close to Aldi so I’d go when I was grocery shopping there. Now the closest is a little further out, but not near anything I’d go for an errand on. If that one closes (which it might, it never was busier than the one i used which is closing), then the closest would be 25 minute drive on the highway which is too far out.

If GS doesn't lower the fs threshold to something closer to normal, heck even min purchase of $30 or $35 would likely help, then closing all these stores will just make it worse, imo.

Also..it will never happen but I wish they would stop accepting incomplete game trades. Make the case/cover a requirement. 😆

Since the late PS4 cycle I have not traded in a single game to GameStop becuase I was fed up with the "value" they would give me. I am not into the whole if you flip this and buy that and pre-order this with a coupon and the moon is full you will make $5 on the transaction.

I was just done with them. Now there are still a handful of stores that are close (Milwaukee Area), but the few times I walk into one I end up searching online (and finding) a better price....and unless I am in the store and can actually see the "used" packaging, I will not buy used from them.

Two of the GS near me that closed are in lower income areas and the other was in a mall.

Consolidating (retreating?) to low(er) overhead, high income spaces (i.e., strip malls near high traffic areas) is likely their tactic.

I think the only way they survive is if they go more high end boutique with stuff. Their several attempts at publishing before failed, but if they could become the VGP of the USA and start printing limited print titles exclusively, while getting rid of most of the tat that doesn't sell, they could have a chance at sticking around.

Basically, they need to go back to the realm of very targeted audiences to hope to survive instead of Radio Shack-ing themselves into oblivion by focusing on so much generic crap.

Or maybe they'll be the memestock that never dies... who knows.

they need to go back to the realm of video games full stop. the stores are not even 50% games anymore IMO. just more and more crap.

To focus on video games, they need to distinguish between complete games, loose games, etc. Until then, anyone that cares about collecting will buy elsewhere.
Most of their customers aren't collectors so they don't really care about that. That and it adds more work for their workers which doesn't work for them when they want to have 1 or 2 people working at a time.

Collectors will still shop at GS but if they want complete, they'd shop elsewhere, but still at GS. GS isn't catering to collectors either way.

GS absolutely isn’t catering to collectors, they even hide most of their collectors editions in their shelves and have no indication that they have it in stock. I was doing a pickup for another game and the guy opened the drawer and I saw a goldmine in there. I didn’t want to to be too forward and ask to see them all (would they let me?), but I noticed a ‘Liar princess and the blind prince’ PS4 collectors edition and asked to buy it, and they obliged.

What I don't understand is why GS doesn't offer 10-20% less value on games traded-in without case/covers. A new generic case/cover costs very little. They could instantly get a small profit boost if they did this policy. Plus, collectors/completionists would have more reasons to shop at GS again.

The only reason that I can think of why they won't do this is because they would effectively have to create a new SKU for every game in their system. Looooootttttttsssssss of backend work. But once the framework is created, they could easily say all new games after XX/XX/20XX would have this policy. Old games stay the same way. This would eliminate having to going back and create new SKUs for all the old/retro games.

At this point, anyone going after physical games is more than likely a collector. Norms are digital.
I agree. As I said, VGP is printing free money for NA region by being the sole supplier of reprints for high demand titles. And they're much smaller than GameStop.

GameStop is cash rich. They could easily fund standing up a print-on-demand pipeline. Get some swag for your version, complete on cart/disc version, etc. and they could establish themselves as the one-stop physical shop.

From what I recall, they really don't even take trades of variants, limited print games, or imports. All lost opportunities. Physical market is going to get pretty scarce soon, so its better to dominate it all instead of trying to be half a mediocre pawn shop and half a mediocre Hot Topic.

Oh wow! I really like that store and have been going since the late 2000’s. That leaves a big section of town without a GameStop since the two in Quail Springs Mall closed a long time ago. Now it’s either driving to Edmond or Bell Isle/Penn Square Mall. 😞
The Belle Isle/Penn Square stores are terrible. I don't know they escaped closure. The store in Moore is pretty bad as well. The Norman closure is pretty surprising. Isn't that the second Norman store closing?

The odd part is it's not as if they have never reprinted stuff before. Xenoblade cs3 cs4 etc.

Hell they were converting them all to used to try and hide them reprints and skirt having to sell them as msrp. And it took a while before people woke up and smelled the coffee on that one.

One of the Edmonds closed. I think silver springs store is open On NW expressway. I think that’s my closest.

They definitely would have to create a new sku, but that isn’t a big issue. They add new SKUs all the time.

The main reason they don’t do this is because they have too many stores in the company to manage it properly and to enforce its done right. It would absolutely get abused by employees, or there will be too many employees making mistakes.

Like an employee can easily just give someone the lesser value for a complete game so they can in return buy it back afterwards at a cheaper price with their discount. Easy enough to claim ignorance and explain they made a mistake on the two different SKUs if they do end up getting caught.

Another issue is that the employee may accidentally give someone full credit for an incomplete game and then it’s now being sold incomplete at the complete price.

The smaller mom and pop game stores that do this, don’t have thousands of stores and employees to worry about. It’s usually just their store so they can easily manage pricing games complete/incomplete and buy and sell them accordingly.

Some of the Pro Day discounts are currently live on the site. Extra 5% preowned applies to consoles (like ps5 pro) and to the seasonal prices on ps5 slims, which I believe ends 1/18.

The 10% off new games actually applies to a huge selection, including new releases and the sega games that were already on sale. Might be a mistake.

Yes also shocked, the prices on some of the already discounted titles are relatively decent.

I haven’t been to the Bell Isle store in a long time but the Penn Square store was kinda rough when I went six weeks ago. Back in the day it was filled with a bunch of used games without cases so I rarely shopped there.

The Norman store closing is surprising to me as well, but I never went back when I lived there.
