Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Or people just aren't sharing any deals, items went oos and or the trade in values already lowered. You have to remember that they barely have any in stock stuff to begin with. Especially with the -1.

Yeah I miss during the holidays when discover had a cash back promo stacked with Rakuten or whatever so you'd be getting 40% cash back on the purchases.

Yeah... I remember the days when I got x% back on buying games during a B2G1F and Rakuten gave be the x% on the regular price without the B2G1F discount. And then I'd pay for the item using some giftcards I got at a discount, usually at 8-10%.

I've got a ton of games I want to pick up but even with the B2G1F, it's just not worth it without other discounts to stack on top.

here we are at the end of the week and no one answered your question. i guess the flip days are over
Flipping directly from the b2g1 I see nothing but if you had bought around the Holidays there are some that can be flipped from their own sales. I did manage to find the new Assassin’s Creed and Monster Hunter during the latest b2g1, not to flip but a good deal. Flipping broken accessories really pays off as well, ask around or buy from ebay and even with the refurb fees I’m doubling my cash to credit. Nice discount on consoles and new accessories.

I went by this morning and traded in the slim for the pro. They let me open the pro and swap the plates and then did the transaction. The only minor annoyance is the feet that come with the pro are tiny because they're not made for the disc drive so my pro is sitting crooked on my tv stand lol.

Also it looks like they just choose on the screen whether it's a physical or digital version of the console.

Probably wouldn't have done it if I couldn't keep my disc drive but I feel like $310 for 2TB storage, a beefy GPU upgrade, fresh controller and warranty isn't bad. I'm expecting games like GTA VI, Yotei and Death Stranding 2 to really take advantage of it.

I'd get the gift cards either through a store that offered 15-20% off or points or through those website redeem multi cards like cheers to you and such whenever Amazon target etc had those for 5-20 off online.

For a while I was just buying games in the sales to try to get a complete copy of Ys 8 (which took like 15-16 to finally do) since my copy came missing the extras annoyingly. then I kept trading or selling back the unwanted games that were easy movers like resident evil collection, fairy tail and that SpongeBob game after I exhausted all the stuff in the sale I actually wanted.

Took forever to get a complete copy but I was stubborn. Iirc I ended up not spending anything out of pocket besides maybe shipping? I don't recall the threshold at the time to get free. since when the sale started I used a 75$ gift card my work gave me for around Thanksgiving.

Shout out to whomever originally posted the link to Ys 8 BTW whoever you are that was awesome. as you couldn't get to it via their mess of a website for whatever reason but could via the link on Google or something externally.

But tldr I do miss those times as I came out ahead between the points and cashback stuff. discover maybe also had a cash back matching promo thing going on at the time where whatever you spent up to a small amount i want to say 50$ cash back per rolling quarter they'd match. Though I think it had exclusions and only worked on certain stores.

FYI Microsoft cash back still has 5.4% cash back on pre owned games (and also gave me for the full value, not the b2g1 discount) not quite the glory days of Rakuten/retailmenot but at least gets you a decent amount back

I traded my xbox series x for $455, now struggling to find much to buy.
Prices are kind of high, so b2g1 and b1g1-50% off isn't great.

When does gamestop release next weeks deals?

Tempted to buy steam gift cards and maybe get a steam deck.

Certainly better than nothing if you're buying stuff anyway.

Dumb question, but does it still work if you pay in trade credit

It’s random if it will accept it or not. I had some go through and others get rejected.

That’s all I’ve ever paid with and it’s worked every time

I see. Frankly I was struggling to really figure what out to pick (and I don't want to risk any return shenanigans until I've picked up my Switch 2), but the cashback would certainly be the incentive I need to go through with it.

I grabbed Xenoblade X, Zelda EOW, and Mario party jamboree. And used my $5 monthly. $99.73+ tax. And got $8.97 back. All came with cases

So essentially $30+tax each, can’t complain

nope, any bonus % is calculated using base value, so $119.50 as long as preordering a game gives you the extra 20

The preorder bonus stacks with the Switch 2 promo?

Already own those sadly.

I've considered Khazan, MH Wilds, and Kingdom Come Deliverance, but I'm not exactly crazy about them. I should focus on my backlog anyways 😅

I just finished trading in a Lite and a PS5 digital in the same distraction. A small amount toward a nsw2 reservation and a new $5 preorder game. The PS5 was boosted to $390 but the Lite wouldn't climb above $106. The trade-in toward nsw2 promo is incompatible with everything but 10% base from pro.

That makes me feel better then, thought I missed out on even more credit lol

interesting and disappointing. it seems you didn't even get a boost from double pro days?

Not on the lite, no. But I was completely happy with 106 for a Lite that my newhews spent the last few years running into the ground.

Another data point is that trading toward a nsw2 console reservation did not trigger the boost on PS5. Must be a game preorder, apparently. This promo probably wasn't supposed to be applying toward console trades in the first place. Pretty nice it lasted all week.

are we so sure this promo is going to be over? i know double pro week is over but the preorder extra 20% is always going on. i think the bigger question is how long has it been applying to consoles.

It's not impossible, but it's kinda obvious this was never an intended promo and only started happening the same week the 20% extra credit promo was live. At least, no one ever brought it up before Pro Week started.

I'm sure someone will eventually test it out to be absolutely sure it no longer works, but yea, hope everyone that was interested traded their stuff in these past two weeks.

I would love to be wrong though, if only because it gives me more time to buy something from Dell maybe and turn a profit lol

I have some Dell dollars to spend. What do you buy that turns a profit?

Profit is probably the wrong word to use sorry. I just meant that a trade promo like that makes it easier to find something I can convert all my Dell points into without having to throw away too much money in the conversion.

Like if I had enough to buy a Series S this week for example, then I'd only lose out on about $40 Dell dollars + tax. Hell, even if I only had $250 Dell Dollars and had to pay like $50 out of pocket, it would have still easily been worth it. That's all I meant, just wanting to convert as much Dell Dollars into store credit as realistically possible.

It's also working on accessories. I traded in a controller a few days before pro week towards a pre order and it did not get the bump, so I imagine the extra pro bonus is messing with the promo in the system somehow causing it to work on everything.
