Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
Yes, that is correct. I traded the 360 versions.

Edit: but you could always call them to confirm the ps3 prices.
I'll most likely stop in and trade the :360: versions. When I do, I'll inquire about the :ps3: and post. Usually when I call for TIV's at my stores, they either won't give them out or end up telling me the used price. It's always more reliable and effective to stop in and ask.

Thanks, I will most likely be trade a few copes of those as well if the values are the same, this weekend.:D

As soon as store open, I'll stop by and trade in my Brink and Hunted PS3 version, so I'll let ya'll know. Hopefully this store knows what they r doing and agree to do trade in. =/

Anyone have an idea if the trade in prices are going to be posted online or anything?

It'll take too long to call and ask a bunch of values over the phone, and it's too far out of my way to just stop in and have them scan or key them in.

Are you guys getting BB to let you use the coupon multiple times, or are you just buying one mag/game. I guess there's still a small profit at 15/brink or 15/hunted, but I'd feel like a crazy person buying 6 copies of a game and 6 copies of the magazine.
Thats cuz I think Dragon Age II's guide is $24.99, as opposed to the usual $19.99 for guides of that size.
IATCG, do you think the "75% off game guides at BBV" deal qualifies to be posted in the Reduced Price Guide Thread? Sure, they aren't pennied, but they are reduced in price. ;)

I didn't want to bump the thread if it wasn't a good idea to do so for something other than penny guides.

Some will let you buy two games with one mag but its ymmv.

This is why I need to do more research before I go running around. I hit probably 6 or 7 BBVs in the last 2 days (and 4 trips to various BBs) and didn't do this. Man, flipping games is so much more fun than playing them :)

Go ahead and post it. It is the "Reduced Price Guide Thread" not "Pennied". I'm surprised no one has posted it there yet. Perhaps we all watch both threads.

you could just ask here and I could look them up that way everyone will benefit. I won't be at work for another 4 hours so if you can wait then list them here.

Thanks, could you also list some other games with relative good trade in values, for BBV;).

My guess, from what he's said before, is that it will only be kind of strange "loss leader" type things like this brink/hunted deal. Maybe there is some good BBV back to BBV flips, but that's bad karma.

That's why I go with limitations of the store. I don't trade in more that 3 copies of the same game for the same system to BB and GS in a year, and from what HB said about BBV viewing your trade history up to 6 months. I wouldn't want to mess up a good thing, can't say everyone would follow the same path.

I hate NBA Jam. The computer is so cheap. I inbound the ball only to be shoved down three times consecutively, lose the ball, and get dunked on. I'm regretting getting it even if it was free.

Managed to pick up a couple guides today. All in good condition too.

Marvel Vs Capcom 3 $5
Red Dead Redemption $5
Final Fantasy XIII(still sealed) x2 $6.25

Can someone please train these guys how to open a trade account? I swear they are so clueless. Told me i have to come back when store manager gets in

Back when BBVs and flipping were more common, I actually walked someone through the process. "OK, now there's a pad of forms in one of the drawers. I fill out this part, you keep this sheet ... " Oh, good times.

...And sometimes the above only occurred after you convinced them that they actually took trade ins.

this price accepting thing is rough - went to two stores where nba jam :360: was marked 19.99 and 9.99. At the 19.99 store I told him I had seen it for 9.99 at another store. He called the store and they told him that it rang up 19.99 but was marked 9.99. I went to the other store and they had remarked it 19.99.

Clerks are always reluctant to let me walk them through stuff like that, they are like "uh I need the manager to tell me how to do it." I never understand how the people that clearly seem to need help dressing themselves in the morning are so unbelieving that a person might know more than them about something.

As of today i had to purchase 1 magazine per game. They claimed the coupon could only be scanned once and had to be discarded thus, only could be used once per game which i though was a lame excuse but whateva

Got some decent deals.

SWFU2x2 - 14.99
Singularity - 9.99!!
Skate 3 - 9.99

Couldn't believe the deal on singularity, if only more were around to flip to bb. :(

Had a happy fiancee when I came home with a Sims3 expansion for her.
Damn my BBV didn't have any pre owned games for sale
I definitely don't understand why some stores seem to get shipments in periodically and before sales and other store have like 10 games for sale.

I hear ya.. last time I checked it seemed like their stock went DOWN from the last BOGO which I couldn't understand. Did they just never receive anymore stock for their used section? Would love it if I can find some new stuff tonight when I go into the store but I'm very doubtful. At the very least I can snatch up a cheap copy of Alan Wake if nobody else took it.

My blockbuster was the same way with this current sale. I always check in on their stock twice a week atleast but all they have added over the past month and a half was 1 copy of quantum of solace for 360 :(

at my closest store, a "manager" didnt even know the sale was going on, i had to tell him and then he had to go look at the big sign. It really makes me wonder how far I could get in the BBV/KMart worlds by just using this website. I would say at least department manager at Kmart in about 4 days because Im not a 16 year old boy or a 46 year old woman

Might be a silly question, it seems a lot of you have flipped multiples into BB, but is it a YMMV ?

If I go into BBV and buy 4 copies of SW TFU2, will it be no problem trading all of them in ?

I believe their limit is supposed to be 3 copies of the same game for each system, per year, per customer. So with 4 copies (assuming they're the same system) you might want to have a friend/family member trade in 2 while you trade in 2 so you can both get the bonus. If you come back the next day though the employee might just not care.. it's worth a shot I guess. Or go to a different BB if there's one nearby.

They currently don't seem to have any way to tell store-to-store how many you've traded in. I think that if you cause a ruckus they can figure it out and ban you, and maybe someday down the road they will coordinate their systems and see that some people have traded in 450 copies of star wars, but until then, you can do 3 at a time (depending on the worker).
Was 24.99 at my store today.
Shoot, ok was hoping for a drop on that one. Thanks for the quick reply.

The BBV here in Yulee, FL must have shut down while I was out to sea. Ill have to check the other one later, but to be honest I still have a huge backlog and could probably go without getting any of these. I would like a cheap Medal of Honor and NBA Jams, but my backlog will suffice.

This sale has largely been a bust for me. I've been to 6 stores and only picked up SWTFU2, Blood Stone, Mind Jack & N3 (all $14.99 - 360). Passed on a couple of things (like Tron & Fable 3), but the selection has been by far the worst of any of the sales in the past few years. With my 100+ game backlog, I would have been happy to just find 2 out of the 3 of RB3, NBA Jam & Medal of Honor but haven't seen a single one of those yet.

Oh & I did get shot down at one store, when the manager claimed I had to buy a >$14.99 game to get a

Went to a local Blockbuster/Gamerush yesterday and there was nothing compared to the last sale.

The numerous copies of Fallout New Vegas were replaced with COD: Black Ops and AC: Brotherhood both I think were $19.99 in the PS3 section.

Absolutely nothing in the Wii section or DS section worth buying except Metroid: The Other M.

The Xbox 360 section had a handful of games. Maybe a copy of SW: Force Unleashed II, Fable 3, and Halo ODST that was all for less than $20.

Probably should have jumped on $14.99 Metroid and $19.99 Fable 3 or COD: BO/AC:B, but knowing my luck something will go wrong like the free game has to be less than $14.99 or something.

Showing up to a sale posted on these forums on the 3rd day seems like a waste of time.

Still plenty at one of the two remaining BBVs by me. Finally pulled the trigger on Bulletstorm and TRON. Bulletstorm had a valid code FTW.

Not true, the 3 BBV around me rarely ever gets hit. I visited one yesterday and it still carries SWFU II, MoH, and a bunch of other titles. It's better to just check it out when u can.
