Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

June 25th - July 1st, 50% off used games $19.99 and under

See here for the deal: http://www.blockbuster.com/stores

There used to be a coupon to print for it, but now stores should have the bar code to scan at the register.  If not, show them their own web page (above) and maybe they will figure it out.

See BlockbusterGuy's thread for a list of titles eligible under (and commonly found at BBV) for the promo:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/310423-blockbuster-video-4th-of-july-sale-bogo/

Coming July 2nd: B1G1 free on games $29.99 and under

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note that anything below here might be out of date. To be honest, I have no idea if Blockbuster even takes games for trade-in any more!

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit will be placed onto your store account
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at Blockbuster, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Monday. We are not currently sure when trade-in values get updated but a few years ago it used to be on Mondays. Any quotes given in this thread may thus be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.
Not true, the 3 BBV around me rarely ever gets hit. I visited one yesterday and it still carries SWFU II, MoH, and a bunch of other titles. It's better to just check it out when u can.
Same here. I don't think anyone in my area knows about CAG. I have never been to a store that was picked clean of anything worth buying.
I think a better game to flip than FUII is Madden 11, at least if you run out of FUII to flip.
How do you figure? Isn't Madden 11 $19.99 at Blockbuster? The Best Buy TIV for PS3/360 is $10 ($15 after 50% bonus).

went in today and my store had a ton of everything... FF13, Forza 3, etc... hundreds of games for 360, and other systems which I didn't check since I barely had time to go thru the 360 games. I've never seen so many games at this store. I plan on going back in the next few days with actual time to look at everything and get more. Today I only grabbed BioShock (360) and Enslaved (360) for a total of $10. lots of games were marked over 14.99 (19.99 and 24.99), what are some of the better games to get at those higher prices? (for flipping, or just playing)

Singularity has higher profit. $9.99 at block buster and trade in is $11. But it's rather hard to find.

Anyone know how much Dynasty Warriors 6 PS3 is at BBV? I've seen it at my local store for quite awhile, but theres no price sticker on it.
I definitely don't understand why some stores seem to get shipments in periodically and before sales and other store have like 10 games for sale.
Actually the store closest to me told me last night while I was there that they 'hadn't converted any games from rental to used lately'. So I'm guessing that that may be why some folks are seeing tons of stuff and others(like me) are seeing mediocre selections available.

If they actually converted over some I might consider going back to the store to grab some more, since most of the older stuff is disc only in horrid condition already.

Why not just take it up and have them price check it? Although I did that the one time with a game w/o a sticker on it and they said someone must've put it in the wrong section since it wasn't marked as a pre-owned title in their system.
Got some decent deals.

SWFU2x2 - 14.99
Singularity - 9.99!!
Skate 3 - 9.99

Couldn't believe the deal on singularity, if only more were around to flip to bb. :(

Had a happy fiancee when I came home with a Sims3 expansion for her.
Singularity is a good game,i got one during the last BOGO sale.

OK. Apparently my buddy who I took with me to the closest store last night got a 80010514 error on his copy of :ps3:Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood that he bought. Yet he told me there doesn't appear to be any major damage(one small scratch) to the disc. I had the same error pop up with a copy of :ps3:COD: Black Ops when I bought it from Gamestop. Once I swapped for a different copy though I had zero issues with it.

So he has to go swap it out. So test those games when you get them folks, don't let 'em sit and collect dust cuz sometimes all it takes is a spot or a small scratch in the wrong spot to cause a disc to be unreadable.

I remember seeing it tagged for $14.99 on Tuesday.

OK. Apparently my copy of :ps3:Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions is having some issues too. It kept freezing/slowing down at the Marvel logo while the game was loading in.

This copy of the game has some small scratches on it that I noticed after wiping it down with a soft cloth. Yet once I got by the Marvel logo screen it seems to be playing just fine.

my store (that was completely packed with hundreds of games on each system) also was adding more and more to the tables during the time I was there. so it's certainly worth checking back over the next few days, they are converting games and getting shipments in at some stores.

I also think I'm gonna set up a BBV account soon, the deals keep getting better and it just seems to be heading in the right direction (cheaper game rentals, free soda with .99 cent movie rentals, .49 cent movie rentals on sunday i think?, etc) pretty impressive rental changes.
I would check into their online program information later this week (at least, in store). The managers should be getting more information about their "stick it to netflix" changes. In the past, the online program movie rentals would give a coupon w/ a surcharge for a monthly game rental... but they should be moving to allowing 1-out-at-a-time (game and movie) both in store and online at the same time w/ unlimited exchanges for the same price/lower than the current price. The new introductory offer should be out soon, of course, you should still be able to cancel before the renewal date.
Went into the store today to ask about this and this was the explanation he (store manager) gave me. He was a bit rushed at the time.

The pricing was explained to be a $7.50 introductory price for the first month with a 14.99 (down from their original price of like 24.99) recurring monthly charge for their 1-at-a-time in-store. This includes both movies and games and once a month you will get a coupon code for an online rental as well. I am debating on doing this myself. Also, apparently the employees will also receive an incentive for signing you up (so dont pick the douchey employee). Cancel any time.
Singularity has higher profit. $9.99 at block buster and trade in is $11. But it's rather hard to find.
NBA jam is the highest profit. $9.99 with a $13 TiV. With bonus it is over tripling your initial investment (with madden almost quadrupling it at $19.50 TiV)

But those are hard to come by since it was pretty much a low key game.

The sale was a complete bust for me.. the one game I kind of wanted (Alan Wake) wasn't even there when I returned so somebody clearly took it. Everything else was the same.. nothing to choose from. Didn't seem like they've restocked at all in the past 3 months.

Will hold out for the next sale I guess.. oh well at least my backlog will keep me busy.

That is all correct and it starts tomorrow. In addition to that they have a kids pass for $4.99 a month good for any kids/family movie rental AND any kids/family games. 1 item out at a time.

Also a student pass just have to show a valid student ID. $7.99 month good for any $1.99 movie or less blu ray excluded and includes $.99 games. 1 item out at a time.

Also a senior citizen/public servant discount which gets you a 50% discount on $1.99 rentals and $.99 game rentals from 11am-3pm mon-fri.

Ok Went to more stores near me. 1st one was kinda eh, had a lot of wii games. But the 2nd one was packed, by far the biggest selection I've seen they literally had a bin in front of the store with all the games in it. Only problem was they had no idea about the sale or the special bar code which was odd because the signs advertising the sale we up. The manager manually did, but seemed hesitant about it.

obviously the plan is to flip them I'm only going on success the rest of CAG so I hope theres no problems or I'll be out of some money -_-

I picked up

SW:FU 2 x2 (360) $14.99 (1 free)
SW:FU 2 x2 (PS3) $14.99 (1 free)
(keeping) Goldeneye (wii) -$14.99
(keeping) Rockband 3 (wii) (free) -$9.99

Does anyone know how BBV works for returns? If I want to exchange a game for another, do I have to go back to the same location I got the game, or is it like GS where you can exchange at any store?

There are several solid flips that I took advantage of today. All prices are rough estimates of what the game cost and the trade in value is what I got at Best Buy with the 40% bonus for a pre-order. All games are 360 unless otherwise noted. Would love to know some PS3 or Wii worthy flips if anyone wants to PM me since I was nice enough to share my list.

Madden 11 is $7.50 -> $14
Singularity is $5 -> $15.40
Medal of Honor is $5 -> $11.20
Megamind is $5 -> $11.20
Lego Harry Potter is $7.50 -> $12.60
Tron Evolution (360 or PS3) is $7.50 -> $12.60
Splatterhouse is $7.50 -> $12.60
NBA Jam is $5 -> $18.20
Kane & Lynch 2 is $5 -> $11.20
Aliens vs. Predator is $5 -> $9.8 (not great but I needed another $9.99 game)
:360: Brink 17
:360: Hunted D.F. 22
:ps3: Hunted D.F. 22
I couldn't get the guy at Best Buy to let me get both Brink and Hunted with 1 coupon :(

Oh well, did get Hunted for one trade in.
I'm checking out this deal this Friday. I never checked out this sale before.

I'm checking out this sale after I get out of work. Hopefully I find something good. We'll see though.

I'm definitely checking this out before I head into work. These are stone decent trade in values.
So apparently you'll be checking out this sale.

Is the game defective? If so,they'll exchange it for another one of the same title if they have it in stock. If not, then they should let you pick out something of the same price. But there are NO RETURNS for cash back.

Might be ymmv on exchanging for another game. Luckily I wasn't butt ugly or that female manager was going to shut me down on that.

Do you know if returns are store-specific (i.e. I have to go to the store where I made the purchase in order to do the exchange) or can I exchange at any BBV?

Yes they are. Store returns MUST be done at the store you purchased the games from.

I was finally able to make it out to a Blockbuster today.

I got:

:ps3: Battlefield Bad Company 2 $9.99
:ps3: Dead to Rights 2 $9.99 (free) still has a $10 base TIV at Gamestop

:ps3: Rock Band 3 $9.99
:360: NBA Jam $9.99 (free)

Blu-rays (new):
The Notebook LE $12.99
Avatar 3-disc $12.99
The Dark Knight $9.99 (price tag said $19.99 but rings up $9.99)

Trading in at blockbuster is soooooooooo easy. Jesus christ it was fast, the manager lady was nice, man I wish they had more good values and I could just go to BB for an occasional trade. Plus they are open like 2 hours later than BB.

EDIT: Just went ahead and did 1 copy of Hunted and bought a 1600 MS Points card (which I have just listed in my trading thread for sale for the TRU price from last week of 16 bucks or 15 gift if anyone is interested :) )
Yes they are. Store returns MUST be done at the store you purchased the games from.
It's all YMMV. If you find the right employee anything is possible.

I stopped by today and picked up 4 PS3 games for $25.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Enslaved
Dead to Right: Retribution
Singularity

I had some interesting trips to BBV this week. Went out Tuesday to one, and everything went fine after the manager figured out the barcode. Wednesday went to a different one, and the lady manager seemed friendly enough when I walked in, said hi and mumbled something about Wii games and b1g1. Found what I needed, and went to check out with 8 games, including 1 Donkey Kong, the only Wii game in my group. The woman got LIVID that I was buying a Wii game, and the following exchange took place:

Her:WII GAMES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE!! IT WONT WORK!
Me (taken aback by her out of the blue anger): Hmm, I thought the sale was for all games.
Her (still in loud voice echoing off the empty store walls): NO! IT DIDNT WORK YESTERDAY AND WONT WORK TODAY!
Me: Well, can we go ahead and try it?
Her: IT WONT WORK. NO.

To cut a long story short, I asked her to humor me, and she insisted on calling the DM before she rang it up. Though not privy to the other end of the conversation, I took it he called her a moron and told her to ring the darn game up. Of course it worked no problem, she is still mad, I am still cool calm and collected. She then goes on a rant about how I am selling these at flea markets and pawn shops, grumbles and mumbles about how BBV doesnt include Wii games in sales because they are low on inventory nationwide, tells me other stores will get in trouble for selling Wii games, other stores are not run as well as hers, and promptly rings up the games wrong (all together), giving me a 19.99 game free instead of a 14.99 one.

I said see ya, and went about my business.

The second bad experience was today, when the nonmanager employee sat there talking on the phone on a personal call for 5 minutes while I was waiting, refused to let me use the bathroom while he was talking about going to the beach, did the over 14.99 arent included, insisted he was the BBV employee and knew the rules that 14.99 games arent included, and called his store manager who was thankfully informed, then didnt apologize, and finally capped it off by throwing the games around angry like for being wrong and looking like a moron.

Both of these stores are right next to 2 very recently vacated BBVs, wouldnt you think they would be a little more customer oriented?

Haha... what an idiot. Too bad the signs say "BUY ANY 1 GAME, GET 1 GAME $14.99 AND UNDER FREE." I would have loved to be in there when she said that to you. I would have walked up there and told her she was wrong. ;P

i'll have to take a closer look at the details for the online student pass (if it exists). It's just too bad BBV closed the 2 closest stores to me. Now it's a 15-20 minute drive to get to a store instead of just 5 minutes. :cry:

Unless there was a recent price drop I've missed...I gotta go back and read the older post just in case...

Can I go in on the spot with some games, set up a trade account and trade them in, and then use that credit on some of the b1g1 games all at once? or is there like a delay in setting up the account at all?

edit: also are the TIVs for current gen games reasonable?

You do realize there are survey links on the receipts now and you could let the company know about your two bad experiences. I know I did one of these when I was largely ignored by clerks in electronics at Sears and their manager called me asking what he could do to remedy the situation.

All I said was that they needed to stop watching ESPN on the HDtv's and do their job. The next time I was in there the store manager was watching them work. So companies DO read these surveys.
