Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Nothing to do with people running slow it's that most of the people are obnoxious jerks.
That was sorta my point though. People are jerks because they want a speed run, and the others aren't keeping up, and thus are deemed to be playing the game "wrong" even though it isn't technically wrong. Yes getting through the level faster means less chance of anyone dying, but if it's a little slower and everyone still survives it's not like anything of value was lost. This speed run mentality mainly comes from the versus mode folks since you gain more points the further you get in a level.
Sine Mora is only 4 bucks! HELL YEAH!
I picked this up recently and had a good time with it so far. The time slowdown feature is pretty novel and the enemy patterns are good. Well worth it at this price if you like arcade shooters.

Now, this is just my opinion, but I did find the story elements convoluted and frankly a bit audacious. It doesn't effect the core game of course as you can skip through it I think. Again, just my opinion.
I think a big part of view towards the RDR story comes from the fact that not everyone is into/understands westerns. I'm a big western lover, and they generally work with that "Well, that happened." vibe. There's a lot of subtlety, casualness, and heavy helping of cliche.

RDR spoilers; don't read if you don't want the ending ruined for you:
The hero getting gunned down in a hail of gunfire is the classic, almost essential western ending. Jack just walking up and shooting the big bad guy for revenge is also a classic element.

Like I said, I love westerns, and RDR's story didn't disappoint me. I can definitely understand how some people would interpret it as badly written though, because bar the really well done newer western movies, most westerns are pretty generic and cliche. That's just how it is.
God, I wish RDR would come to the PC....
Don't we all... Unfortunately Rockstar has all but confirmed that its not going to happen. http://kotaku.com/5847192/dont-expect-red-dead-redemption-to-ever-come-out-on-pc
What the hell is up w/ Rockstar?

Is there some kind of timed exclusivity agreement w/ Sony (PS3) & Microsoft (X360) so they don't bring it to the PC for a few years or something?

How well or poorly did GTA4 PC and EFLC PC + Max Payne 3 PC + LA Noire PC sell?
I thought all of those were great (provided you had the system to run them, of course).
Since you brought this up, how the hell is this actually supposed to work? Is it just for people with media center PCs or people willing to buy a 100' HDMI cable to run from the computer room to the living room?
Motoki pretty much said it.
I have a 50' one. Seriously. It actually works pretty well too but with ones that long you have to be sure you get a well made one or else there can be signal degredation and noise and all that not so good stuff.

There are apparently various wireless solutions but I have not found a good one yet that doesn't have issues with latency, dropped connections etc and is suitable for gaming.

Of course if you have a decent gaming laptop (or just play something that doesn't require a hefty machine like Torchlight) then needing a long cable isn't even an issue.

Running PC games on a big TV is actually a really cool setup. It's like a console but not all crappy fuzzy lower resolution and you can use mods.

I actually keep meaning to make my current PC a HTPC and get a new one, but stuff keeps coming up preventing me from buying a new PC like the dog (not the one in the picture) tearing a ligament that cost $900 at the vet and me getting that shiny new Galaxy Note II Phablet for $650 because I like my $30 a month plan and refuse to go on a contract etc etc.
If you've got a 720p TV, I wouldn't recommend it. It looks fine, just not great. On a nice big 1080p one though, it's great with a wireless controller on certain games. I still prefer most games the old fashioned way and with KB/M, but the TV is especially great for local multiplayer.

Also, like Motoki said, if you've got a gaming laptop, it's more of an option. I've got a Clevo P370EM.
I want to thank all the regulars for their input on L4D. I'll probably sit it out until I can get some friends on board as well. Had no idea their was no real single player "campaign" in them.
There is no multiplayer "campaign" either. The game is made up of linear "episodes", which send you through a level fighting zombies, fighting your way to get to an escape point where you have to make a last stand while the rescue vehicle is en route.

The only difference between single player and multiplayer on the episodes is that your teammates are bots or real people. The versus multiplayer is totally different of course.

L4D is a great game. Better than KF by miles but Payday beats them both. I haven't had TOO much trouble with randoms but I always play with at least one friend.

I went into the XBLA demo wanting to buy Karateka and l left glad I didn't. I am not often so profoundly repulsed and disappointed.

I also thought Sine Mora is an awful shump compared to just about every other offering on Steam.
All that said, I will buy Afterfall: Insanity at the right price :)

It was on sale at GG a little while back but not for enough.
I think their charity money got stolen from inside when it was left at the door of their apartment suburban cul de sac house. *

Anyway meh I'll think about it if it's 99 cents or in a bundle with games I actually want but otherwise I am kind over of generic zombie FPS games.

*(for anyone scratching their heads over that reference see this thread from post 205 on and grab some popcorn)

I also use a 50' HDMI cable between my PC and the TV in the main room (hugging all the walls so no mess). I can't notice any degradation (is this even possible with HDMI?) and some games I just prefer to sit on the couch and play with a controller on the big screen... Sleeping Dogs comes to mind. :)

Oh, for anyone who's playing Saint's Row 3, I highly recommend this weapon texture pack:

http://www.saintsrowmods.com/forum/index.php?threads/joes-tacticool-weapons.851/

The pics there don't really show the changes very well (I think there's only one before and after shot), but the mod really does add some nice textures. No more weird green SMGs and AKs and such. If you don't end up liking it, it's easy to remove anyways.
Idioteque, seriously your agreeing with Motoki again? What the hell?
I quickly scan through the post and stop to read if something catches my eye. On your post the first thing I saw was "beaver simulator", but based on your description it's not the game I was hoping for.

7 Sins is still on sale...
7 Sins is still on sale...
Motoki stole the obvious joke.

I played through L4D2 solo and thought it was worth the five bucks. Sure, it's pretty mindless stuff but sometimes blowing your way through swarms of zombies can be just what you need. The "campaign" is, as said, you basically moving your way through different terrains (shopping mall, rail yard, plantation, amusement park, etc) trying to reach some sort of rescue until you get to the big finish. Simple puzzles to stretch it out like "find two cans of gas for a motor" that keep you moving back and forth. But it's no worse a campaign than any other multi-player oriented FPS (say, Homeland). Some of the characters have amusing quips (especially Ellis) and it's interesting to read the graffiti in the safe rooms and sort of piece together how it all fell apart.

It doesn't rise above as a single player experience but I don't think it's disappointing either, given what it is.

Edit: Got Transcripted for 79 cents! Good looks for that, brethren!

This is a sort of out of nowhere question, but I have the retail version of the first Company of Heroes game installed right now, and got the steam version on the Humble THQ bundle.

Is there ANY benefit to me uninstalling the retail CoH and installing the steam version? It's not like OF or ToV have to be installed over top of the first game, so that's obviously not an issue. Does anyone know if there's any issues with online play between retail and steam or patch issues or any difference between the two?
What... A feature that isn't for everyone?!?!?!?! Like every other feature on steam? Insanity... damn you Valve trying to appeal to all different types of people!...
Lol... I didn't even see this post. Not only was I not complaining, but I was trying to point something out for people who were actually interested in it. Kudos to you, sir. ;)
If anyone is unsure and wants to try Transcripted, or just wants to play an exclusive level of the game, there's an exclusive demo level Steam key free here:

http://www.alienwarearena.com/giveaway/transcripted-alienware-level-demo-giveaway/

Pretty sure it's still available.
And since I had to search 5 pages back for the link, here it is again.

Also, can anyone sway me one way or another on Tiny and Big? 2.50 seems like my sweet spot to get it, unless I want to wait for it in a bundle.

I've had my eye on They Bleed Pixels for a short while and see it's at $3.39(-66% off) right now. I'm waiting on a -75% off or more before I bite the bullet though.

I'd wait for it to show up in the inevitable indie royale

I kind of dig Big Picture, though more often than not I forget to use it. I built my gaming PC with the express intent of it sitting next to my tv in the living room (otherwise it would go in my office and I spend no time in my office gaming). This way it handles all media needs and plays just about every game that isn't PS3/360 exclusive in higher res than consoles (yay emulation), I get better sound from my living room surround setup than I'd get from my desktop 2.1, and it's the cheapest platform for games by far. Add in a wireless mouse, wireless solar powered keyboard and 360 pads and arcade sticks and no problems jumping between Torchlight 2 or Civ 5 and Arkham City or Super SF IV AE.

I'm not a hardcore PC RTS or FPS player so any latency from my tv or wireless kb/m combo really doesn't worry me. Chrome easily zooms in all web-browsing I want to do to be easily readable on the tv but the steam client had always made me get a bit squinty to navigate my library. I'd gotten used to it, but Big Picture is a welcomed upgrade for the most part (though for some odd reason it broke the 360 controller with Ys Origin during the beta for awhile, haven't tried that again). All in all it's not a critical upgrade but it is nice to actually be able to see what Steam notifications/achievements are popping up in the corner and I'm sure I'll get to a "How'd I ever use Steam without this before?" point soon enough.
L4D is a great game. Better than KF by miles but Payday beats them both.
L4D is a more polished game without any doubt, but Killing Floor is a game that really hooked me and kept me coming back for more. Part of it is the aforementioned "community" piece of the equation. Namely that KF is generally a pretty friendly co-op experience, while L4D has become highly competitive and obnoxious if you don't

A) Understand every nuance of the level and game and;
B) Know people playing on the server

Killing Floor also, in my opinion, does one thing absolutely right: guns and shooting. The KF guns all look and feel great. And in my mind, that's where KF and L4D depart. L4D is a great game, but KF is the better shooter.
