Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I think the "must have" (also based on discount) from the indie sale are: Terraria, Amnesia, The Binding of Isaac, Trine collection, Beat Hazard complete.
You can get Beat Hazard dirt cheap in the trade thread (because it was included in a recent Humble Bundle.)

I didn't see that it's been mentioned yet, but A Valley Without Wind 1+2 pack (Steam keys) is on sale at GMG for $3.00 after promo code GMG20-FDSCL-AQQXD. I have $1.50 in trade-in credit, and I'm really tempted to get it...

Anyone with experience with the games/knowledge of future bundles care to talk me out of it? ;)

It's been pointed out to me that Hitman: Absolution is only £4.99 in the UK, so that's about $7.50ish, and is a considerable saving for non-UK folk.

Send me a PM if you need a hand with regional pricing.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I recall the dev that made it say that they had no intentions of ever putting this game in a bundle...on that note they also developed tidalis which is currently bundled and AI war which was recently given away to ign prime members.

Does that discount carry over to the full Hitman pack?

I've been playing AVWW 2 for about 3 hours. It's a wonderful game, reminds me of Actraiser (SNES). The music is so nice you play in a relaxing state. Is a bit repetitive, but I like it.

I think $3 is a no brainer. Even if it's bundled later... but maybe it's just me and my SNES nostalgia (graphics are better than SNES games, of course)

Just a heads up about AVWW, a lot of people were able to use a keygen to get a key that actually activated on Steam (these were actual retail keys being generated, so if it belonged to somebody already, whoever used the keygen may have inadvertently stolen someone else's key). The problem here is the algorithm that they use to generate keys. The key is a string of numbers without the use of letter, which makes it less secure. Bad design choice on their part which happened with one of their previous games as well (the name is escaping me, but it's the one in the "space" setting).

There was a flood of "key drops"/"giveaways" when this was found out, and as a result many were "tricked" into registering generated keys without knowledge of where they came from. Steam/Valve and the developer did nothing to reverse/prevent this, at least to my knowledge.

I believe this was only for the retail version's cd keys being compromised, so if you're getting a Steam key, then you're fine.

To put the icing on the cake, anyone who owned (including those who "stole" keys) were given the sequel free of charge.

Just something to keep in mind when you're buying this game. It's a bit worse that knowing that a game you're buying could be pirated by others (something I can live with). But knowing that people can illegitimately obtain legitimate copies of the game is a big no-no when it comes to buying games for me.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but.

Steam has Buy Grand Theft Auto Complete Pack for 75% off ($12.49)

Or you can pick an choose particular GTA games and get the 75%.

God damn it.... Is Endless Space worth it at 66% off? What's the odds it goes 75% in the Summer Sale?

And that's right! I said it! SUMMER SALE! Sooner than you think!

Went on a search to find games that I purchased on indie bundles and found this list. Thought some CAGs might want to add more games to their backlog:
Released games that give 'free' keys:
Waking Mars (The Humble Bundle for Android 4)
McPixel (directly from developer)
Anodyne (Humble Store)
Towns (Alpha Collection #1)
Gnomoria (IndieGameStand)
No Time to Explain (GamersGate)
Kenshi (GamersGate, apparently needs Steam Beta to be activated)
DLC Quest (the St. Patrick's Day Bundle, the Chosen Bundle)
Postal 2 (Be Mine 3)
The Journey Down: Chapter One (IndieGameStand, The Summer Bundle, The Name Your Own Price Indie Gamer Bundle)
I'm selling Hitman Collection w/ Absolution for $11 \\:D/
Was just about to shamelessly come here to advertise for you lol. Then I seen that you already posted. ;)

I have No Time to Explain on Gamersgate and don't see a "reveal key" button anywhere on mine. Only option I have is to just download it.

AVWW 2 is a great game. If I buy the game, I'm somewhat supporting a developer who make games I like. In the market, one should vote with the wallet and I vote for Arcen Games to continue making games the way they are doing it. I really don't care if people can get it for free. But that's just my opinion.

For me, it's more about how Arcen Games makes it too easy to pirate their games. I think there's a Steam keygen for all of their games. That alone makes me not want to support them.. It can't be that hard for them to use more complex keys.

I have nothing against their games, I just wish they'd be smarter.

Good post, but don't forget Postal 1 from Indie Gala 2. Plus a few others that were retroactively added to various Humbles, albeit a fairly long time ago (Cortex Command, etc.)

Also I know Wake & unnye Devitsy were in a recent Royale, but it sure would be nice to get keys for the Steam release (the Lunar Pack) from way back in Indie Gala 4.

Summer Sale! When is it? Does anyone know if Skyram with be 91% off? I heard a rumor that the entire Steam library was going to be $50

Maybe it's their strategy -- kinda similar to going DRM-FREE. Pirates gonna pirate.

Oh no.

The only thing worse than people asking about upcoming sales is people mocking the people that will theoretically soon be asking about upcoming sales.

This thread is the most vicious of cycles.

There was a post somewhere on the steam forums about the developer only giving steam keys to the 2013 in the Indie Royale for Wake and Lunnye Devitsy. I wish there was a website or forum that had every single game that was an Indie bundle that is on steam now from the past and present. I am pretty sure I have missed some.

IMO, wait for a 75% sale. It looks great, but the mechanics isn't as polished as I would have liked.

That's correct. They said only IR would get it. Something about IG version being a less developed older version.

What about people who comment on people mocking other people who ask unanswerable questions about upcoming sales? Or the people who comment on the first type? ;)

Last summer sale I bought the entire Steam library for $74.99 but I hope these year it drops a little due to MSRP drops. Knowing them though, they'll probably cut back and release a Entire Steam Library 2013 Collection missing some older games for around $69.99.

Yeah I had a feeling.

Of course if I had known I probably would've bought the dang bundle, but oh well.

And missing all the DLC too!

Did you get it free from IGN Prime last year? If so, the developer said they won't give Steam keys out for those ones.

Skyram is old news. It's all about Bioshucks sales now. 91% off with free X-Man: EU

Which reminds me, should there be a Two Worlds III announcement about now?
Haven't watched any recently, but last I heard, he's been fired.
Yeah, same here, I read a ton of articles about all the drama on the show.

On another note, Valve just announce Half Life 4. Gabe sez skippin 3 altogether, and 4 will be twice as loko as 2.

There's a reason it's free. Don't get me wrong. Certain bits shine. But so much is garbage and backtracking.

For those interested in Endless Space, JakeNome is selling:
$8.11 Endless Space
$8.45 Endless Space Emperor

$8.11 is $0.61 more than 75% off the regular edition ($7.50), and
$8.45 is $0.30 less than 75% off the emperor edition ($8.75) at current store retail prices. Just something to think about if you're interested and/or on the fence about Steam current 66% off price. ;)

I have a hunch he's broke as well. Even if he wanted to be on the show, he ain't got the scratch.

I can't wrap my head around why they gave you 7 characters to choose from with the way the game is designed. If you want to see all of the content in the game you have to do all of the shared puzzles 3 times and 2 character areas twice. Even if the content was amazing, expecting you to redo certain parts to see all of the puzzles is ridiculous. It was also pretty unfun in co-op. There shouldn't be long stretches where one of the players is just following the other person around or stuck somewhere watching.
