CAGiversary!

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
That is very awesome. Not many of us get to visit such a place, even if it's not for an interview. I hope you can make Enhanced Steam more of a thing and are at least credited by Valve with the idea! :D
I'd honestly be happy at this point if they took some, most, or all of the Enhanced Steam features and rolled them into the Steam web store - with or without credit.

It's a good little game and well worth playing for a few bucks. There isn't a point in buying the first though. All the levels were ported to the second.

Well we all appreciate your features. I usually browse on my ipad so I don't get to take advantage of it but whenever I open chrome on my pc I'm pleasantly delighted again and think valve upgraded before I remember it was you.

And I really appreciate all of the Enhanced Steam users - you guys are great and your feedback is what keeps things getting better and better. I know Valve does what they can, but I don't understand why they wouldn't hire someone like me: I understand what the typical customer wants (I am one, after all) and have the technical know-how to make it work. I've already got a "working prototype" of what their new storefront would be like, and I'm intimately familiar with their design, code, and API. For a company like Valve, I'm a gold mine. Maybe some day...

In the mean time, I'm thinking of picking up this shirt to wear on Friday:

wow, can't wait for those to come out. The one thing I don't like about steam achievements is that they don't add to anything. Seems they're are moving in the right direction;)
Oh great, so we're going to have Steam Levels? Eugh, that might cause me to... PLAY some of my games.
Great, so now we Level-Up on Steam, too.
So, Steam's now an RPG, too?

Steam levels DO sound like a fun idea, but I think it might just be the same thing as the "Steam rating" already in place.

Still, I would love to see a cumulative score that increases through playing your games and/or getting achievements. To me, the whole reason achievements worked so well on xbox 360 is that they all add to a running total. Without that, Steam cheeves and PSN trophies are just kind of boring and hollow in comparison. Of course 360 is by far my least favorite of the 3 platforms, but that's one thing it did right.

So, Steam itself is gonna be the next Everquest or WOW?

will reserve judgement until I finally get to try the new steam profiles myself but from the looks of things they trying to make it look more like the community pages.

I wonder if we'll get Steam-Level unlocks, badges, perks, avatars, and stuff like that - kind of like how COD Black Ops 2 MP worked this past Free Weekend. ;)

I wonder if Steam-Leveling will have Double XP weekends, too.

took a better at the screenshots and I noticed pic #1 and #3 have more games in their inventory than in their library, were these pics taken by actual users or are they mock ups?
So... I have to play my games now? I'm a little afraid...
Sure looks like it - if we wanna be one of the cool kids and get to whatever the max Steam-Level is.
I wonder what the Steam-Level cap will be...

If this was D&D, I guess Gabe would be our DM.

I don't know what kind of darkness stares at me on my backlog...
I already finished Darkness 2. :p

Oh, wait - you didn't mean *that* actual game.
You actually meant "darkness" as in all the horrible games in your backlog.

There are some ancient gems, like Fallout New Vegas, Call of Juarez Bound in Blood, Mass Effect, KOTOR... I really can't believe I still didn't played those, been there for YEARS. But... there are also a lot of obscure games deeper in the backlog waiting to bite my hand!

Car Unlocks ?!? fuck yeah!!!

Meh, Don't-Stand-In-The-Fire-2.0... their catering to casuals ruined the game (total oversimplification)... though I would point directly at Dungeon Finder's implementation in WotLK as a key element in the downfall of WoW.

Lulz... considering current console era games as "ancient gems"...
(some of us have backlogs going back to floppy discs)

I'm talking "ancient" in steam-backlog-age terms. I'm 35, got some real ancient gems out there, can assure you

Too bad I lost almost all my discs :(

BUT... I remember I used to play all my games back then (at least 90%). Atari, NES, PC... all of them. Steam gave me the backlog "issue" (and aging, kids, etc). I'm even buying games I already had (GOG.com) KNOWING I'll not play them again. But I want them for nostalgia (Ultima collection)

I thought Darkness 2 was pretty good.
I wish Darkness 1 got a PC port.

I won't even list all of my expansive backlog across numerous retail and digital retailers. It'd take too long.

Knew you'd like that. :D

My PC games backlog go back to the retail days on CD's up to the modern digital era.

I only got Atari, NES, SNES and Genesis. Then I turned 100% PC. Bought a Wii for my kids, but I only played some family games on it...

I'm planning on playing castlevania 2 (again) through emulator this weekend... ;)

Oooh, Simon's Quest was good. Flashback!
I actually gave that cart away long ago, after I beat it.
I bought that PC Contra/Castlevania Konami Collection numerous years back at Retail.

I'm mainly an old gamer. I use to listen some VG soundtracks (mainly from 8/16 bit era) to relax during/after work and while driving. Castlevania OSTs are my favs. And Deus Ex HR lately xD

Heh, I still have that cart sitting in a drawer somewhere. Those old Castlevanias are pretty brutal. Backlogged NES games... yikes.

I still wish Harmony of Despair would be ported to PC... 4-pack for $40, they'd make a killing! Hell, I'd even be okay with GFWL for achievements (I got all of them on 360).

A little late, but with the recent indie bundles I have a question is love jshackles to ask if possible: why did they remove the progress bar from greenlight? It seems almost random what gets in, and now there isn't even much ground to guess on. There are a lot of games that should already be greenlit (Bleed, why isn't bleed on steam:cry:), but stuff like driver fusion are getting through :whistle2:( if nothing else, a progress bar at least makes it easier to find out the apparent approval rate, since everyone is just asking devs instead now.

So yeah, that's about it;)
whats a good price for Dont Starve?
I got it as a gift, so I didn't follow the prices too much, but for a long time you could get a two-pack for $12. I never saw better than that. At release a couple weeks back the keys got unified so that each key works on steam, humblestore, and chrome store. Previously you got a two pack on steam, or a pair of steam keys with a pair of chrome keys from the dev's site.

Personally I like the PS3 version better, trophies are treated like XP points that level you up. Also by having 3 levels of trophies you see whether the user has just gone for low hanging fruit, or is a completionist who has done everything in the game. With achievements you don't know if they have run ten thousand 10-meter dashes or ten 10,000-meter endurance races.

Gotcha. Do you know - are there any sites online that track this sort of thing? Seems like I saw one at one point but I could be mistaken. If there is something collectively by the devs, I may be able to integrate it with Enhanced Steam. :)

I recently found out about AchievementStats.com which I promptly added a profile link to in Enhanced Steam. Basically it gives you a breakdown of your achievements, and assigns a "point value" to each one based on how easy it is to unlock. You can see a list of achievements for each game, and even what your next "easiest" achievement is (which I think is kind of cool).

It's not a perfect system, but it seems to work pretty well. Sadly, I only have 309.21 "points" which is 631 achievements.
We already have a CAG-version of GamerScore... the size of one's steam library.
Many Steam users have fun, fully realized experiences with just a handful of games on their account. It's not the length of one's library, it's the mirth.

And none of those users are CAGs.

Apparently there was a video card bundle that included Steam codes for Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, and FC Blood Dragon. I just picked one up on eBay for $30. $10 a pop is a pretty stonking hot deal if you're interested in all three.

I'm sure I'm not the first to note this, but just in case anyone missed it. Like me.

Yet another awesome feature for ES! All your continued hard work is really putting the Valve devs who actually maintain the client to shame. Pssh, all they could do was add Metacritic and Facebook. ;)

Had to switch to public for the tracker and ask it to update, but so far I'm at 800 points. Been playing too many games. Now I'm waiting for my "Number of all owning games" to update...

Yeah, the site can be slow sometimes especially if you're new and own a lot of games or have a lot of achievements. But once it updates, it gives you a pretty sweet amount of data. ;)

Utterly terrible sale. The goldbox has been 75% off before (which included everything, even Albion Prelude), and was even cheaper on GamersGate. I got it for like $6 or $7 there.

It is a terrible sale. I would still get X3:TC for free after rebate if anyone has interest in it (and it's still in stock). 33% is for Albion 3.0 though, but it'll be cheaper at the summer sale.
