Good point. I'm calling GoT Yankee purely on the basis of it being an HBO production and thus is carried on a major US network, and thus has a large US viewerbase.

The particular distinction for the purposes of my post, is that the majority of my TV & movie watching is non-US (and largely non-English) and not carried on TV or in Cinemas.

Dual national. My English betrays non-English/American language patterns in a subtle way that makes Americans always think I'm from another part of the country. Hearing my breed of Colonial English regularly makes me cringe as I hear mistakes that I recognize but still make myself. I don't think or speak like a pure-breed American.
Makes sense.

Most of my TV watching, which is vary rarely, is non american also. The majority of the crap that my wife and friends watch is appalling. I also never actually use my TV, most of my viewing pleasure is done from my comp.

I forgot, thanks for the recommend! (Yes, I'm making a note of it ;))

Thanks for the TV recommends.

TV & video games are totally different. TV is very passive. Videogames are very active and often have problem-solving. They are are good training to kill reflex training. ;)

I've tried and didn't care too much for Big Bang Theory and The Office (American Patriot Edition). I'm really quite partial to British Comedy.
Boardwalk Empire is a gritty political, violent gangster show set in the prohibition era. The main protagonist is an anti-hero, but from the shows you listed that you liked and the shows you listed that you didn't like you might enjoy it. It's worth a go- it has Steve Buscemi.

Also, if you've never seen The Wire it is worthy of your time. It's more of a social documentary of Baltimore than an actual TV drama. It stands with GoT as for as quality TV goes.

As for The Big Bang Theory goes, I can't watch anything with a fucking laugh track.

Homeland is awesome also
I've heard the second season had a bad drop off in quality. I'm going to see how the rest plays out before I commit myself to watching it.

edit for card discussion: I got a bloody Bloody Blocks That Matter booster pack. Probably for the best if it was for a game that I liked I might have crafted another badge.

Nobody asserted or insinuated that.

If you're getting catty because of something as trivial as this -- remember: internet -- I prescribe a vigorous weight-shake and nut-slap, on the double.
...ya, not here, but all over; its what I here from so many goddamn people...and not specifically online, it pisses me off because its an overly elite mindset. I just hate when people put themselves on a pedestal over something so "trivial"...

I want you to post your source so I can break this jarring story and collect my 15 minutes.
Source? For what? History? Repetition? Sorry if my source is education, knowing that eventually it'll happen because similar events have already occurred. I mean, Netflix has already gotten heat from making such a drastic move as separating streaming and dvds, why wont the same occur for commercials.

Not really arguing cost, arguing that its considered TV, I mean I can make the same point as you by comparing the cost of Satellite to the cost of broadcast television. The price isn't the issue, you can pay whatever you want for whatever gets you your tv shows, but they are still considered forms of TV...

Now, more on topic, got my first booster from crafting the Zombie Driver badge (*gasp* that's right, I've actually crafted badged from my cards!?)

You seem to project an internalized uneasiness with your TV watching habits. I'm not claiming any holier than thou status. Just a simple fact. When people start talking about TV shows I wander off since I have no idea what they are talking about. ...like sports talk, don't know, don't care. Average 34 hours/week trivial difference... almost the difference between full time job and unemployment.

Broken avatar, Foxster. At least, it doesn't show for me.
No, it's retro sheik, his avatar is a picture of a broken image symbol.

As a wise woman once said, "Math is hard. Let's go shopping!"

When's Summer Sale?
And that's why I strive to be good at it. Anyone can flip burgers.

Summer Sale... well last year GG began at the start of August, so only 3-4 more weeks. :whee:

Throw away money grinding all those levels just to be disappointed with the prices and feed the Gaben-troll... no thanks.

= you seem overly concerned with your status relative to others based on your judgement of TV watching habits

I don't own a TV. There is no TV in my residence. Even if I had Netflix, how could I watch TV without a TV?* It's internet streaming video. If I watch a DVD on my computer does that count as watching TV?

*see you take liberty with calling watching video on my computer as TV based on useage. This is the same as my point, it's not what it is it's how you use it.

Taking a middle ground, how would you describe someone who watches one hour of TV a week for their favorite show (let's say, a Taiga carried on KTSF)? Would they have any idea what people are yammering about when they start talking about popular, currently airing shows?

rofl, are you saying there's a difference between watching TV shows on a PC versus a TV? Or that its not the same as watching foreign TV shows on a PC?

Either argument is idiotic.
(Im not saying that you are, but I cant be bothered reading up the rest of this)

In non-television news, the Mystery cards now have a little map-like trail on them.  Another treasure hunt themed sale this year?

Maybe the mystery cards will have the steam mascots and we'll need to collect buy them all to craft a worthless awesome sale badge.

Because it's widely accepted that "Watching TV" simply refers to the viewing of a serialized drama or comedy, regardless of the device being used.

Earthbound's issue is that, regardless whether you yourself are intending it in this way, there are a large number of people who say "I don't watch TV" or "I don't own a TV" with a clear intention of pride and superiority, but still watch shows like Breaking Bad on Netflix as though that were a meaningful difference from sitting down to watch it on AMC or on a DVR.

People like that are, quite frankly, insufferable.

1) I bit the bullet and got a Sonic 4 pack. 3 2 left- pm me (I accept Paypal gift or amazon gc)

2) I should know better by now, but what the heck. It's always amusing to me (growing up in a US possession) when Americans use the term yankee. If you are american, you are a yankee :bouncy: It reminds me of a "joke":

To non-americans, every american is a yankee (or yanqui)

To southerners, every northerner is a yankee.

To northerners, a yankee is someone from New England

To New Englanders, a yankee is someone from Vermont

(I think there is another part, but I forgot which part of Vermont is the "yankee" part)
In New England, Yankees are the north-of-Boston "hill-folk" from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and the small part of Massachusetts North and Northwest of the Boston metropolitan area. It's definitely a distinct regional identity, and some people bristle at other parts of the country being called Yankees.

Source: Ima Yankee.

Not really at all, I don't know how ya got that out of my posts, lol

Not sure what you are saying as your * seems to counter your own point, but yes, its still TV if you watch television streaming on your computer. The medium/screen you use is not what makes it TV...

Taking a middle ground, how would you describe someone who watches one hour of TV a week for their favorite show (let's say, a Taiga carried on KTSF)? Would they have any idea what people are yammering about when they start talking about popular, currently airing shows?
Not sure what you are getting at here either, but I really don't care how little a person watches TV, that has literally no bearing on who they are...

rofl, are you saying there's a difference between watching TV shows on a PC versus a TV? Or that its not the same as watching foreign TV shows on a PC?

Exactly!

Hmmm, not television related, but interesting... On that note, I got my first Mystery Card as well (same time as first booster from Zombie Driver badge crafting)

I'm definitely NOT a (New York) Yankees baseball fan. ;)

Where is this shown at?

Has anyone noticed that the market doesn't always show the lowest price?

I don't know if its a caching issue, but I have had a card listed for $0.15 and the lowest being shown was $0.24.

Technically, you should be able to TRADE your TRADING cards with friends for free, so that would be cheapest.

Good luck with that though.
Well, you need to trade something of value for something of value, so even if that was the case you would either have to have friends with polar opposite tastes as you in order to exchange cards evenly amongst games you each wanted to trade for or you would still have to invest in something for the trade, be it games, or whatever.

In the traditional trading card sense, you still had to buy packs of cards before being able to trade and you still had/have card dealers that will sell you cards outright. Steam's system is more generous in the sense you are essentially getting them for free to start and heck if I had saved my Go Home cards, I could have used the booster to craft a badge at no cost at all.

I suspect 2% might be fairly accurate.

I've had about 100 drops and 2 have been foils (1 at drop 70, the other around drop 100), so anecdotally for me it's been true.
From reading the thread, I think the rate might be closer to 1%. Consider our friendly neighborhood CAG card artist, who's received somewhere between 100 and 200 cards with nary a foil. (Personally, I'm 0-for-38, which isn't enough to determine anything at all.)

If CAGs wanted to approximate the actual foil rate, we could put together all of our results and get an answer. (Standard disclaimers about small sample sizes, non-random population sampling, reporting errors, et cetera, et cetera.)

@ Mac The Geek

Math math math, math math math...

but you forget, gamblers (booster pack buyers in this context) are usually bad at math.
No, I never forget that. Back in the days when Uncle Sam didn't hassle online poker, I made a significant pile of "hobby income" from gamblers who were bad at math.

Learning the value of an item is the first step toward exploiting the people who chase bad odds.

Got a defenders quest booster, Opened it up and sold the three cards for more than I would have gotten for the booster pack itself. Nice.

Source? For what? History? Repetition? Sorry if my source is education, knowing that eventually it'll happen because similar events have already occurred.
You're clairvoyant? Where's the source of your education, Hogwarts?

Are you hinting at another holocaust? Does the iPhone have a seance app, and is it free?

Should we contact Anne Frank if it's free?

[...?]

I mean, Netflix has already gotten heat from making such a drastic move as separating streaming and dvds, why wont the same occur for commercials.
Exactly, because they don't want heat.

Eventually Cable/Satellite got commercials, so too will Netflix, and then what?

I would say it's pretty decent. I picked up the standalone game for about $10 two months back.

Sheepy Dogs is fantastic -- GTA done right, with Batman-lite combat + Bullettime. That said if you're just backlogging, you might as well hold out a little longer for the Complete Edition. I paid $13 back at Thanksgiving, and the DLC isn't worth much.
Thanks, I decided to wait it out for a Complete edition.

I don't think Square Enix and Eidos games are the kind of games you buy to backlog. They just go on sale way to often and price-cut oh-so-quickly.

Plus, like I said in the other thread...

Sleeping Dogs is just NOT a game anyone should backlog.
It is THAT good.

Got Anodyne booster... selling as it is

About Sleeping dogs... I got it from the Steam price glitch. Glad I did it, is an AWESOME game, über-fun. I don't care about it's DLCs... well, maybe a couple

I don't usually read posts I missed, but the whole TV argument = you all fail for arguing on the internet. ;) None of you will ever have much of an impact on another's personal beliefs.

I'm from Maine, and the only Yankees we see are New Yorkers. We've been vandalizing their vehicles since A.Rod left the Red Sox.
