This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11 :wave:

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

I don't get why people hate the fade so much

It's not dat bad

At least I don't think it is
Nah, it's terrible. Plus it's clunky, the mechanics are irritating and it provides nothing towards advancing the plot (even the four 'boss' fights aren't really worthwhile). It's just a giant speed bump of suck in the middle of the story.

I'd usually recommend anyone play a game vanilla the first time before finding ways to hack out portions but I'd recommend 'Skip the Fade' to any first time DA:O player. Heck, it ups the chances that they'll finish the game rather than getting bored in the Fade and quitting the game.

I'm shocked at my self control this year. i've wanted Far Cry 3 for $7.50, Sniper Elite 2 Bundle for $10 (Amazon) or $12 (Gamersgate, including the original game), Megabyte Punch for $5 on Steam, and PAC-Man DX+ for $2.50 from GameStop.

Every time I think about picking one up, I think about my pile of shame, and how I probably won't even play any of these games for years. It's not like these won't be on sale again, right?
I think there's so many reasons to not buy games ASAP:

Many games released as Alpha/Beta/Incomplete (feeling either buggy, unstable, technical issues, graphics issues, etc);

games have later lots of DLC's (especially for popular franchises, popular companies, companies known for DLC galore, etc);

inevitable Season Pass;

inevitable re-release edition w/ everything (unless your game is from EA and BioWare);

annoying DRM schemes;

having a big backlog already;

and other things.

Yeah, having a backlog's a biggie. I can just look at my backlog and there is something in there I want to play - especially if I look at the so-called "sales" on new games, it just screams "Wait" for numerous reasons.

I think it's often safe to buy a game at 75% off or better, if you don't to touch it anytime soon.

I often just use HB, Groupees, IndieGala - and stuff like that to get stuff I missed out on.

Anybody else see this?
With the GOTY Edition out there, makes sense.

It's all about them selling the DLC now to anyone who only owns base game. I've had Dishonored (base game) since last year - still waiting for major price-drops in the DLC's.

I wish the DLC's would brick in price - and that same-same can go for Skyrim.

Still "bleh" at missing Dishonored GOTY price-glitch - would've bought that just for the damn DLC's.

Am I the only one who was NOT annoyed by The Fade and the length of the Deep Roads?

{raises my eyebrow}

While they were NOT my favorite parts of the game, I didn't hate them either.

EDIT:

Realized I had Dragon Age 1 on Origin, but not with all the DLC. Of course it would be cheaper to rebuy it all on Steam than get just Awakenings from Origin. Looks like I'm double-dipping.
I don't know if Steam-version still does it - but if you right-click on DAO and get the game's "CD Key", that should actually input directly right into Origin. :D

When I bought DAO Ultimate from Steam, I began the DL; stopped it; checked so I could get CD Key; then registered the key into Origin and DL'ed it from there.

Yeah, 75% is the sweet spot. I don't know why having a backlog is a problem. Play the games you want when you can. I get we all have responsibilities and such but playing games faster to get another game or skipping on a ridiculous price just because you have another game is pointless most of the time. 75% off a $30-$50 a game you can't wait to play is phenomenal. 75% off an already low priced games makes less of a discount but its still 75% off! I happily see my library grow with big steam sales.

Then there is the 80%, 90% off, and price glitches, oh my....

I abuse the hell out of quicksave key in games (like these) that have them, hehe.

80%-90% is the new 75%, looks like we will be seeing more of those % discount in the winter sale.

I think the more $ that I spend on a game, the more likely I'll play it ASAP. Every now and then, this happens - and I just want a certain game and gotta' have it, even if it don't meet my usual 75% off rule: i.e. The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3, Bioshock Infinite & MK9 Komplete come to mind.

Reaching for the backlog is often what I do when nothing I want is on sale at a price I am willing/want to spend on it or if I need a different type of game.

EDIT:

i dont think the xbox version had one

or im just a moron
I played DAO on the PC.

Are we looking at recap deals tomorrow or is tonight's set of flash deals it? The site isn't really clear if the sale is over as of 1 pm tomorrow or 1 pm 12/4.

I think it ends tomorrow at the usual update time. Today's daily deals expire tomorrow instead of going two days like the previous ones.

Yeah sale ends tomorrow, even none daily and flash deals have a countdown timer that ends tomorrow at 1 pm est. So I'll be waiting for the last set of flash deals then maybe grabbing one more thing.

For once, I'm not trying to actually rub it in.

What I was implying from what I said: I ain't played it on the consoles, so I don't know if that version has a quicksave key.

If you didn't know - I'm strictly a PC gamer, these days and age. I'm normally not gonna be able to tell you how console versions turn out from any sort of personal experience.

Looks like I'll wait until the last set of flash sales before I pull the trigger. At this point, I'll end up with:

Fez - $2.50
Retro/Grade - $2.50
Duke Nukem Pack - $2.50
Gemini Rue - $2.50

Pretty reasonable haul for me this year, all of which I should be able to play through in the next 2 weeks to stabilize the backlog.

WIsh I could say the same

My haul the past week would last me months

Apparently How to Survive is $3.75 on Uplay. DOES activate on Steam from what I can tell, but still, hell of a price.

Thanks to Drabelincoln for confirming it activates on Steam.

I thought the Deep Roads were fine. The Fade did drag on for a while but it didn't seem like fluff to me--it felt like vital background to understanding mages and why they were so feared and hated in this world.

Well, are any of the DLCs mission-critical stuff? $5 seems like a pretty solid price.

This is only because Steam MSRP is staying higher than what it should be. Tomb Raider for $49.99, Serious Sam 3 and Darksiders 2 for $39.99, Natural Selection 2 for $24.99...console peasant prices that are in dire need of some adjusting. But high prices + deep discounts = more sales, regardless of whether the price is accurate or justified. Maybe Gaben took some online marketing courses from Kaplan University.

I played DA:O over and over and over again on the PS3. Beat it 100% with four or five characters. I didn't mind the Fade, too much.

Been playing Far Cry 3 and I'm loving it. Still on the fence about the DLC, lol

how can you even tell if something activates on Steam when you buy from uPlay.

Games that require steam, like Final Fantasy 7 that i bought from them...dont mention anything about steam. I wanted how to survive...but not on uplay

I'm wondering this too. My spoder sense tells me that it activates on Steam.. I don't see any DRM-free copies on other sites.. they all seem to activate on Steam.

Thanks Hal, I see you have a time of 1:56:65 in the Intel Grid 2 thing. The sweet spot for "fastest" times seem to be 2:46:00 to 2:47:00. Their sorting code is jacked up, and you have to make 5 mistakes to inflate your time on each picture finding setup (assuming 3 times) to force that time.Good Luck.
Hey, I really appreciate the tips! I've been trying to win Grid 2 (loved Grid) and haven't been having any luck.... now I see why!

Ok, someone tell me if I should buy How to Survive from Uplay. Whoever convinces me to buy or not to buy will get the next Grid 2 Steam key I win from facebook (IF I win one).

I gave them too much credit and assumed they would note it. I recommend How to Survive at that price personally. Thanks to Enhanced Steam for pointing out the Uplay deal to me!
