WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 OUT NOW!!!
fuck, I'm close to selling this game already, this shit is ridiculous, no matter what buttons I push the dude won't get off the fucking mat, and I lose every one of matches because the computer can just keep hitting me and hitting me and hitting me unless I get lucky with a reversel.
I almost right there with you. Its pissing me off. I play against The Big Show he throws me on my back. Then steps on my stomach, steps on my back, this is happens about 10 times. He runs out of stamina, I stand up try to fight back even without stamina he can reverse everything I throw at him. Until he gets a finisher. Then match over.

The worst match I had was with Kid Kash, I was Boogeyman. I had his torso yellow. My was clear and fine. I get a finisher stored up. I'm about to do a set-up move before the finisher. He reverse's, body slammed me twice. Then tossed me out of the ring, put me on the ring apron chopped my neck until he had no stamina. Rolled me into the ring and got the 3 count. My body was clear, that put me over the edge. I'm going to give it a few more chances then I'm done with it.

This is coming from someone that played all the other smackdowns on legend difficulty. This one I'm playing on easy and getting my ass stomped because the new move system, stamina and AI are broke, or don't work together I should say.
Have you ever played a SmackDown game? It's like that. Change it to easy or learn to reverse.
Yes the AI in all of the Smackdown games have always done the same moves. But before you were actually able to get up after a move as simple as "big push" or a body slam.
Have you ever played a SmackDown game? It's like that. Change it to easy or learn to reverse.
I've played Smackdown games since the beginning, and I never remember being laid out on the mat for 5 minutes at a time while the AI just has their way with me, and decides to reverse all of my moves over and over and over. Turning down the AI has done nothing, in this case.

Is this what Smackdown games have become, just learning how to reverse every move? Shit, if WWE was that technical and relied on reversals I'd actually watch it a bit more.

I don't remember being this annoyed by the demo at all. I'll give it another day but if it dosen't get any better I think I'll dump it on Ebay to make my $50 back and just import Firepro for PS2. I'll give GM mode a try and see if they fixed it first.

I mean, the game would be pretty damn good if my guy didn't oversell the smallest fucking move. Uh oh, I got punched to the mat, now I'm going to be laying on it for 5 minutes!

It's been like a billion games and Yukes STILL can't get hand placement right... Big Show chokeslamming a small person results in his hand on their face, instead of their neck.

You definitely have to wait and reverse moves while you're on the mat. I just use the right trigger as the button I press a bazillion times, and when my opponent comes near me I slow myself down and try to time it.

I agree with everyone that it's annoying as hell (and I probably should have bought Viva Pinata instead), but there are ways around it.

I'm sooo close to unlocking the Hitman...

Agree with you there.

God dammit, when the hell did JBL become the most proficient technical wrestler since Bret Hart?

I wonder how much EB is giving for this...

I haven't played it yet, but really - the AI doesn't seem like it's changed much since the last years. The series has always been about playing in groups, either with your friends or online. If anyone actually plans on keeping this game long enough to play online, come find me.

As far as the CAGWF or whatever we're calling it, let's get something together. Give it a week or so, set up some matches to determine a champion, and go from there. It sucks there's no online season mode or any type of GM mode online (and seriously, after having custom intro music on the Raw series, not having it here is weird), but I'm sure we can make something fun out of it.

I don't think its too big a problem because you can reverse it, but I definitely think that you should be able to get up a bit quicker without pounding the buttons. Thats probably the only gameplay thing that really bugs me.

Also, for those interested there is a No Mercy mod being worked on with WWE Legends.

Oh, and as far as the league goes I'll talk more about it in its thread, but does anyone know of any good existing e-fed discussion sites?

I'm playing on the Easy setting and using Control Type C which is like the old school controls on the PS2 and I'm not having any problems. I'm almost done with Season mode w/ Orton.

One change i just noticed is weight class affecting CAW move sets. Before I always used heavy weight , with cruiser weight move sets. Cant do that much now. And fighting the Big Show as a cruiser was a joke, He stood there absorbing my kicks, lol;

Early on the Big Show destroyed me as well. You actually get a fairly cool storyline if you lose. Once you play the game for a while it gets easier. Rely heavily on quick grapples to wear down your opponent.

One thing I also really wish they'd change is the whole "Mash the buttons rapidly to break the pin!" Sometimes I feel like I'm hammering on the buttons for no reason, I mean, I hit that A button like a man possessed and they still get the 3 count.

I don't know HOW they should fix it, but they should make pinfalls more interactive and at least be able to see how close I am to breaking out because this invisible button mashing thing is dumb.

I know it was on past Smackdown's but this is the first Smackdown where I feel as though the buttons just aren't having any effect.

Plus, and maybe I just glossed over this in the demo, you get your special VERY fast now... I was playing Undertaker vs Orton in the challenge mode and within 30 seconds into the match I already gave Orton the chokeslam.
Have you ever played a SmackDown game?
I haven't. I don't own a PS2.

Disappointing game, but at least it isn't complete shit like the previous XBox wrestling game offerings. I may try control type C to see if I enjoy it any more. Button mashing is an outdated gameplay mechanic for a wrestling game and needs to be removed pronto. Stick something in there like the cage-climing minigame (the closer to the end of the meter you click it, the faster you get up).

Reversing was perfect in No Mercy, not too hard but not too easy. Wish they would have gotten it similar to that.

When are developers going to learn that it's not fun to have a game with mediocre gameplay control, yet be forced into 2 on 1 matches constantly...especially when the CPU characters reverse every grapple you do?

Pretty sad that they didn't allow custom soundtracks....what is it with the 360 having like NO games that support that? I know you can play music over it, but if I want to do that I'll just shut off the in-game music and put my stereo on. I wonder if there's something different about the 360 that doesn't let them do it. I don't see how that could be the case, but what do I know.

Speaking of No Mercy:

I wish AKI hadn't stopped making WWE games. They were absolutely perfect, all around... and I can only imagine how they would have evolved over the generations.

When I'm doing a finisher, why does the commentary get really really quiet?

I also don't really like the "pre-scripted moves" they have in, where it warps you to the center of the ring... like Cena's five knuckle shuffle.
I also don't really like the "pre-scripted moves" they have in, where it warps you to the center of the ring... like Cena's five knuckle shuffle.
That's not new, it also happened every time you did the People's Elbow with The Rock in past Smackdown games.
That's not new, it also happened every time you did the People's Elbow with The Rock in past Smackdown games.
I know it's not new but I've seen it on a few different wrestlers already and in this game it's extra obnoxious, because I'll be near the ropes, they will do a pre-scripted move and warp me to the center, then do a ton of submissions and I can't rope break since the game warped me to the center of the ring, so I have to try and hit a reversal if I'm lucky.

when you are down on the ground, just keep pounding on the right trigger. Most of the time characters are going to try and grapple you allowing for you to get up quick.
when you are down on the ground, just keep pounding on the right trigger. Most of the time characters are going to try and grapple you allowing for you to get up quick.
So that works, I don't have to try and time it, I can just mash on the trigger and chances are I'll reverse?

Ugh, reading up on this game has me pretty frustrated over Yukes. Someone needs to really light a fire under their asses. The annoying thing is that, back when you had 3 consoles of relatively comparable power, THQ insisted on making a different game for each platform.

So of course NOW they decide to make a single game and port it, now that we have vastly different platforms out (next-gen 360, old PS2, and portable PSP). So 360 gets an upscaled PS2 game, which sucks. PS2 gets a watered-down version of a 360 game, which also sucks. And trying to directly port a game between portable and console versions rarely works out well.

Of course we get tons of match options, but as usual there are some really compelling match possibilities that could EASILY be added to the game, but the developers are too lazy/ignorant/indifferent to implement them. Meanwhile, simple cheat device hacks make these matches possible.

I have a few questions for those who own the game... annoyances that have been around since the first game. I want to see if these have been addressed, but sadly I think I already know the answer:

- Can you leave the ring in an elimination match? (and do they still refer it as a "battle royal," even if there aren't any over-the-top eliminations?)

- In cell matches, do pinfalls count anywhere in the arena? If so, is there any way to turn this off? IMO they effectively ruined cell matches by adding the "falls count anywhere" stipulation. Now one big spot off the cell basically ends the match.

- has the reversal system improved at all? Are all reversals performed as soon as the move begins, or do they have varying, logical timings based on the move performed?

- Are pinning finishers basically useless in matches with no pin (i.e. the opponent instantly "kicks out" and is back on their feet)

- Can you still abuse the hell out of the "hop on the apron and yank your opponent's head over the rop" grapple from the outside?

- Does it have that stupid glitch where you can run and hit square to knock down anyone while they're getting back in the ring?

- Are "standing" aerial moves still completely unblockable against a knocked-down opponent?

- Is the crowd audio still generally unspectacular? You kind of had to use your imagination with GBA Firepro, but that game had better crowd reactions than other game I've ever played.

- Have they addressed any of the longterm presentation issues, such as referring to a street fight as a "TLC match"

- have they TAKEN OUT more moves?

- Have a lot of the moves been re-animated? In the commercial I noticed that HBK has the same stupid animation for Sweet Chin Music that he's had in the last few games (with the stupid dance afterwards, which he never does DURING A MATCH)

Really I've loved the smackdown series, but Yukes is coming off as very lazy this time around. They gotta get a fresh engine and then design the game ground-up around the 360.

The ones I know already -

According to GameFAQ's, yes, moves were taken out, I'm no Smackdown expert so I can't really verify this.

All reversals are performed at the BEGINNING of the move.

I think I remember reading that finishers with pins are still useless if you can't pin someone.

The crowd is ok from what I've seen, the commentary is horrible.

I think they are waiting for next year before they truly role out the next gen changes. The PS3 needs to be out in full force before they start solely going next generation. This time around I am fine with an enhanced port because I have really been wanting to play Smackdown and Xbox live should be a heck of a lot of fun (I have yet to play online since I want to beat the single player stuff before going online).
when you are down on the ground, just keep pounding on the right trigger. Most of the time characters are going to try and grapple you allowing for you to get up quick.
This works PERFECTLY... I just jam on the button and 9 out of 10 times I can reverse it.

Wow, I actually had a very fun match. I was Bret Hart and I went up against Kurt Angle. We went back and forth and it looked like the kind of match that these two would have put on had they had the chance. FYI, I made Kurt tap to the Sharpshooter. ;)

One minor complaint, the in-game Bret Hart looks nothing like him.

I'm having alot more fun after following Casey's advice... I'm not on the mat for nearly as long.

GM mode, at first glance, seems alot more fleshed out as well.

Is there any way to throw someone through the announcer's table without actually climbing on top of it? I want to powerbomb someone from the floor ONTO the announcer's table without myself being on it.

The only thing that has really bugged me so far is the grip bar in ladder matches. The fact that you share a bar with your opponent is just lame. I had a match with Rey and knocked the bar all the way down to close to the bottom and Rey knocked me off the ladder and easily grabbed the belt.

Story mode so far is pretty good. Next time through I am going to choose Mr. Perfect or Shelton. I am near the Royal Rumble so I am fairly close to the end.

I'm definitely curious about how well the online mode plays this time around. So once a few of you have had a chance to play around with it, any impressions would be much appreciated!

Despite my complaints over Yukes' apparent laziness, a well-executed online mode could still hook me in. Even the PS2's buggy-as-hell online mode could be extremely addicting once I got a few matches going.

I don't know if you can powerbomb someone through it, but I used the right stick button and dragged them over to the table and slammed them through it once in the demo. The table has to be cleaned off first.

The only thing I get is the head banging on the table thing.

Also, is anyone else having trouble changing your focus to a different wrestler? It only seems to work 1 out of every 5 button presses.

Like, in a tag match, I can't get it to select my opponent's partner so I can knock him out to pin the guy in the ring.

The back button changes your focus.

You have to do the grapple away from the table and have them in the hold before you get near it. I would put them in the firemans carry and then drag them over there and then execute the move to knock them through the table.

Yea I know the back button changes focus but I push it and it does nothing at all... it seems random that it actually does change my focus.

I believe there also is a special way to hit your opponents team mate while they are not fighting. I remember something along those lines during a loading screen. It might have something to do with the right button and the d-pad or a.

Well, shit, now I got a DQ since I kept hitting the ref :(

Oh man, the DQ's were out of control in the last game. SO many DQ's online that were genuine mistakes. And they made it so that the ref was on your nuts the whole time, so it was very easy to hit him accidentally. It was especially bad in 4-person matches. In fact it was genuinely challenging to complete a 4-way match WITHOUT someone getting accidentally disqualified... a real design flaw there.

How the fuck do you remove clothing in the CAW mode? I put something on my guy and I CAN'T get rid of it. All I can do is stack stuff on top of it.

is there a button for "Layers" in the CAW mode? In the last few games you'd access a menu, select "layers," and then you could edit or delete the various articles of clothing on your CAW.

Yeah, it was awful last time. Nowhere near as bad this time. I've nailed the ref a few times when someone moved out of the way, but he got back up.. no DQ or anything.

I love the SmackDown games.

THANK you. Man that is really strange.

Well, I kept trying to change my focus, and for some reason it will only change focus if I'm close to the other guy. So I'd try to change it, but the ref would end up being closer at the last second and I walloped him by accident

Does anyone have any tips for the GM mode? I can only get 3 stars as my highest... I really like the changes they've made to this mode now. I hope in the future they start going even more in depth.

Hire a writer and make feuds with a good storyline
Hire a writer and make feuds with a good storyline
I've done that, it's still hard to push it up past three stars... I've gotten three and a half stars at the most, but my show generally only gets three stars total every time.

I've got three feuds going on now, but is there something else I'm missing to get 4 and 5 stars, maybe something I need to do during the match itself?

I think GM mode is random. In last year's version I could have Bret Hart return to fight Kurt Angle in an Iron Man match, and I'd get three stars. On the other show, the main event would be Kane vs. Hassan, which would result in four stars and a higher rated show.

Do I have to do something special to get the Royal Rumble trophy (like enter the rumble and win)? I just retained my title and did not get the trophy (which means I did not unlock Austin and the smoking skull belt).

If anyone makes an awesome Vince McMahon CAW, let me know... I can't believe they left him out yet again, since he's been so prominent on RAW lately.

At least we got Shane! Wouldn't really call him a legend though.

There is no way to permantely move a guy from Raw to Smackdown and vice versa, correct? It's shitty seeing Chavo on Raw since he hasn't been on Raw in months.

Spoilers about story mode

I'm going through story mode right now with Angle and the only ppv I have fought at was Wrestlemania against HHH for the WWE title. I've probably gone through at least 15 matches after Wrestlemania and havent even seen another ppv yet (like Backlash or Vengeance). So far, the storylines I have encountered (after Wrestlemania) are:

-Vince brings back legends to WWE
-Piper kidnapped Steph
-Currently on the storyline where Trish helps Masters win the title in a ladder match

So is any of the ppvs suppose to come out soon cause I wanna unlock stuff with all the money I have been collecting.

The game gets much better if you play as a more technical guy, at least in my findings. I'm going through story mode as Booker T, but usually play other matches as Bret Hart. I'm starting to have more fun with the game...
