I don't know, and I don't see anything wrong. You can buy a used GOTY edition, install the on-disc DLC, and return it according to Gamestop's return policy.
With all due respect, GameStop's policy is not the issue. You're certainly not stealing from GameStop when you do this. The issue is copyright infringement. You're creating an unauthorized copy of the content, which amounts to "stealing" from the copyright holder, which in most cases is the publisher (sometimes the developer). To the extent that the copy is authorized during the time that you're a lawful owner of the game, you're supposed to delete it when you dispose of the disc itself, such as when you return it to GameStop.

One of the things that confuses me about this site is that piracy talk gets shut down almost immediately, but talk of pirating DLC in this way does not.

Just providing some info on what the law says. I know no one actually does that. But the fact that people don't do that is one of the reasons we get all kinds of crazy DRM foisted upon us -- and it's only going to get worse. We can only fight off the Microsofts of the world for so long.

Anyway, not trying to police here. My feeling these days is more or less live and let live. Just trying to explain/address an issue that was raised upthread.

What the hell are you on about? If I buy the game and then trade the discs in but don't delete the DLC in case I want to pick up the vanilla game later, are you seriously equating that to theft? That's ridiculous. Only in this age is the idea that if we purchase something it isn't our right to have it and do what we like. Why? Because people like you are siding with corporation created and nurtured copyright laws.

I'm sure the companies who already have money and means thank you for your wonderful obedience. I, however, think you're ridiculous.

Isn't any opinion on us harming Gamestop null and void immediately as soon as someone brings up their used games as new and the whole Xenoblade fiasco?

No no no, you don't get it.

When a corporation does something a bit shady that's business, when the consumer does it, unleash the hounds !!!!!

Are you all mentally challenged? illenium explained the law to you objectively. As in, you will be sued by the publisher if you are caught. He didn't write the law, and it's not based off of his opinion. Take your apprehensive, childish rants somewhere else.

That's unwarranted. I'm certain I'm at least as anti-corporate as you, actually. I hope you act on that animus at the ballot box. If so, then we're entirely on the same side.

Thanks, but I've come to expect this knee-jerk reaction. All I can do is try to be civil and objective and not engage. The truth is that even though the reactions come in the form of snide (sometimes personal) attacks, they're based on a real truth that people are right to be angry about. Even though the majority of copyrights are actually held by individuals and small businesses, it is true (or at least I fully agree) that large, increasingly consolidated corporations have too much power in this country, and regular people have too little. I don't begrudge people being angry about this. I'm angry about it too. However I think there are better ways to express and act on that than fighting each other on a message board.

So where's the 'deals' talk? Battlefield 3!!! lol

Anyways, since I didn't partake in any this week, I picked up Castle Crashers and had a blast with the wife. However, FIFA 14 early access started today so won't be getting off that for a good while. Anybody still playing Castle Crashers or are we THAT late to the party?

Gheeze so much agression.

Anyways, I'd say most of the DLC is a waste over the years. Only ones I've really enjoyed were the Borderlands 1+2 ones, Bioshock 2 Minerva's Den I believe it was? and a few others. The maps are a total waste, but since all my friends get the COD DLC I usually just buy them. Well not anymore. I'm already wasting $60 (actuallly $70 this year to get digital codes for both versions) but I am done with the map packs. I have not seen a single map pack as a "must have" since Halo 2.

Bunch of dudes are gonna be paranoid and not wanna turn on their Xboxs...mine is on downloading FIFA and I'm scared to turn it off and on now...

What r u supposed to do? Send an apology letter with the money that is costs to buy the 'stolen' content? lol

Oh damn, and that's exactly why I don't risk any of this crap you guys do. My account and console are much more valuable to me than one free game.

I think DLC has generally been getting better. I really enjoyed Piggy's Perfect 10 (Enslaved), Grubbins on Ice (Costume Quest), the extra episodes for Alan Wake, and the extra levels in Renegade Ops. I might be missing a few good ones.

I agree. Thats my favorite thing to buy on the marketplace. I liked ME DLC, Dead Space DLC, Bioshock DLC, and plenty of others like the ones you listed. I hate multiplayer "maps" for the most part but still get them for games I play. I don't buy too many arcades.

Still not worth it... I have $100 of dollars invested in my gamertag.
So do I. I have soooo many purchases and care about my profile too much to risk it over free games that I can get cheap later. But everyone is different.

Everybody always ignores Rock Band when it comes to the DLC discussion, so they must be doing something right?
That too! I own about a 100 songs from Rock Band DLC. Love that game. Its just that guitars wear down after a while and now its kinda expensive to replace them. I miss the old classic Harmonix white wired guitars.

I'm perhaps just not clear on how people are getting the free games, but if it was MS that accidentally set the price as free I don't understand how downloading that can be "theft"?

I would like to know a little bit about your experience. Did you just turn your console on and it said you were banned? They Email you? What regions did you download from? Anyone else getting hit with this? Thanks.
Got an email with this in it earlier: "This email is to notify you that your Xbox LIVE account privileges have been permanently suspended due to marketplace theft."

Checked website, sure enough, i'm banned. Checked console and it wont let me sign in with any accounts, says it's console banned.

Harmonix always does DLC right. I Can't think of many companies who's DLC works are compatible with future iterations, not to mention transferring on disc content to the next game. Though I am still ever so pissed they stopped DLC support for Dance Central.

Not to mention that they appear to have stopped the series in favor of Disney. :(

Totally honest, but I would've bought an X1 had Dance Central 4 been a launch title. Disney Fantasia I think mostly scares me away because of it having Disney in the title so it feels it maybe limited like Lego Rock Band in having to appeal to the whole family. Eitherway I'll pick it up eventually, but I'm in no rush for next gen as of right now.

I think my favorite part of "Marketplace Theft" is that Xbox Live is a completely locked up and closed marketplace. It's not like I can log in and try to sneakily slide Charlie Murder in my pocket or under my jacket. We are only able to pay the exact price that Microsoft is charging for each piece of content. It's not humanly possible to "steal" from the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Here's what I can't understand about the arguments for downloading free games in other regions: People keep saying it's not against the ToS, but how is providing false information NOT against said ToS? I honestly haven't read the full terms, but the way of going about accessing these pricing errors has almost always included creating an account with falsified credentials.

What games do you think will be part of the Games with Gold program?

Based on what has been given so far and what has been announced (Halo 3) they could be: Battlefield BC1/2/ or 1943, Forza 2/3, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Gears of War 1 or 2, a pre-MW COD title, or a Twisted Pixel game.
I wouldn't mind if the offer Kameo, since that's the only way I would play that game. About Twisted Pixel, the only game I don't own is Splosion man, and please, please MS, don't give me GTA IV.

I predict a whole lot of CAGs shitting their pants and a whole lot of banned consoles coming to GameStop...

SO glad I skipped those free game "deals".

Because one person gets banned? Seriously?

They'd be doing me a favor if they banned me. I can finally stop caring about gamerscore and then go 'eyepatch' in full force.

Abusing the ability of downloading purchased games on multiple consoles, such as sharing a gamertag for the express purpose of letting someone who didn't purchase digital content enjoy it free of charge, has been characterized as marketplace theft in the past, and I get it. There's also the more insidious side of modded consoles, though they are already ban fodder.

Yeah... After thinking about it, I'm sure that MS singled out his account only and won't be banning any other consoles for creating fraudulent accounts to get free games... Keep believing that.

I haven't downloaded anything from other marketplaces, so I guess that It's been for the best in the end (though I would've liked to get those free games).

They could put those other maketplace's free games here through Gold offers (injustice, mars war logs...), and not those shitty games they are offering us through g4g.
