Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

Just a random thought, with the size of your backlogs, do you ever replay any of the games you own?

I'm playing through Witcher 2 (among many others) and just got to the part
where I choose between Iorveth or Roche
and made me realize I need to replay it once I finish the game.

Other than Alan Wake, the only games I've replayed multiple times is the Mass Effect trilogy.
Dark Souls series has me returning randomly. First game aged horribly so I mostly stick with 2 and 3

Happy weekend, may your gaming be prosperous and glorious. Finally got the you completed an online road trip in FH2 because I can now do that lol. Don't know if I'm gonna do 200 multiplayer events though.

Just played a few hours of Rocket League and when you get a good team together in Dropshots you don't wanna stop lol.

I don't know if replay is the right word. The last year or so my habit of jumping game to game has gotten a lot worse. I think it's just a lack of stuff really grabbing my attention fully. So I go back to older stuff but it's generally a continuation than a replay. If I'm digging a game when I beat it I might replay it right away, but I usually need a higher difficulty or unlocks to do so, unless there are big story elements like Mass Effect or Witcher. I want to replay Doom 2016 soon to find all the secrets and try all the stuff they've added, but I feel like I should finish Wolfenstein and Old Blood first.

The last game I recall going back through was Dragon Age 2, to refresh myself before Inquisition. I hated this game the first time through, but knowing what major flaws to avoid entirely, and somehow accidentally missing my most hated party member, I ended up think the game was passable but full of huge flaws. I started to replay the Mass Effect trilogy when Andromeda was coming, but that was a futile dream. Sometimes I go back to New Vegas and put in some time, so I guess I mostly go back to RPGs. I might go back to Dragon Age Origins soon here now that it was GWG. The ridiculous 80-100 hour play times of the newer Bioware games has definitely held me back from replaying them. I'll get to Inquisition eventually but I don't know that I'll ever go back to Andromeda unless some good DLC ends up happening or a sequel gets close.

I was meaning to go back to Dragon's Dogma but my corrupted save kept me from doing so, so I'm glad I'll have a fresh start with the remaster. And I plan to do some stuff with Halo 3 for the 10 year anniversary, a campaign playthrough and some multiplayer. I might actually do the multiplayer in the BC version if that ends up being true, just to have that authentic experience and playlist choice.

Other than that I go back to older games that I really love. Every year or two I usually play through some version of Yoshi's Island, Mario 64, Perfect Dark, Snake Eater, or the classic Resident Evil games.

I played through Earthbound twice, Secret of Mana like 4 times, Diablo 2 and 3 I've played through prob 50 times for diff characters, Borderlands 2 like 3 or 4 times for diff characters. Many of the Halos I've played through multiple times. Zelda Ocarina of Time multiple times. I just replay ones I really like.

Anyone gone through the Witcher 3 more than once?  Lol.  Finally got to the Skellige Isles and saw that I had already played the game for 120 hours.  Turned it off and haven't turned it on again since.  It's been... a year and a half or so?  Definitely want to get back into it.

Who was your most hated party member in Dragon Age 2?

I was looking through my screenshots folder the other day and it made me want to replay Witcher 3, but I should probably get through some of my unplayed games before committing another 150+ hours on that wonderful game again. So, it could possibly be awhile.

So for FH3 all I need is the standard edition plus Expansion Pass to get all achievements, right? The ultimate and deluxe editions just have extra cars?

I think Bloomy answered this for me before... feel like it should be stickied for those like me with a short memory, hah!

Why did I think getting lawn seats to a concert in Charlotte in June was a good idea? Thunderstorms look to be in my future to pair with Muse/30 Seconds to Mars/Missio tonight.

If I don't pop back up in the forum tomorrow, know I probably was struck by lightning.
Last year I went to see modest mouse and brand new in Tampa...at an outdoor venue..... in the middle of July. By time the concert started (6:30) it was 115 degrees. It was so fucking hot but the show was well worth it.

thanks, got Zoo Tycoon no problems, after switching back it/my NA collection of games both still work and my $8 balance untouched.

So working on the backlog I finished The Force Unleashed Two. It is indeed very short rounding out at about 5 hours (a lot of people will finish it in four, I'm just a little slow) and the ending scene was constantly stuttering but the game overall ran great. I'm really curious if Endor mission where you slaughter the ewoks is indeed 20 minutes long lol.

Got my copy of Crimson Skies from Amazon today.

Saw a show at Raymond James in Tampa on Weds, got rained on through the opening act. Thankfully wasn't too hot in the evening.

The Mass Effect trilogy really sucked up a lot of my backlog time. I believe I played ME1 8 times, ME2 6 times & ME3 3 times, aside from multiplayer in ME 3 as well.

That and Borderlands 2, I enjoyed all the characters so I've played that game like 5 or 6 times, including New Game+.

and

They showed up in my list around 3 am. Still don't care about rare replay, but The Final Station looks interesting.

I would love to hear Bloomy's take and know this as well.

Apparently the base game comes with over 300 cars so if the DLC is just extra cars doesn't seem worth it unless you're a carhead or like Pokemon gotta catch em all. Normally I buy the ultimate editions but $50 more just for extra cars doesn't seem worth it? I stil have the ultimate edition of FH2 plus my backlog to play.

Man I lucked out yesterday.....I was passing a pawn shop and I went in because I straight can't resist a pawn shop, and they had a box of OG Xbox games for $1 each. Snagged crimson skies, jade empire, Stubbs, max Paine 1 & 2, all humans must die, and three splinter cell variations....the counter dude threw in The Last Dragon the bomb 80s movie for free.

Damn good find. Stubbs goes for close to $50 on eBay alone. That is one I need to find, but won't pay the crazy online prices. I did snag Shenmue 2 and BLACK for $21 total after shipping

Yup played BL2 on 4 consoles. 3 times got ALL achievements or trophies. Play through on normal, true and ultimate vault hunter on multiple consoles/platform. I have played some of the Batman games (mostly Arkham Asylum) on 2 or 3 consoles/versions. I have it remastered as well but haven't played it yet. I have finished GTA5 on both PS4 and XBox One.

Did you get the Achievement for Super Meet boy? I need / buy a tune while in the meet. None seem to be available so far. I think we can boost this if you still haven't gotten it. I am not going to try for 200 MP events nor 168 championships.

Probably go for the 175 cars in the garage one though. I have like 68 already and a bunch of free ones I haven't claimed.

What happens if my billing address doesn't match my console's locale?

In that case, you will not be able to purchase content. You must have a valid billing address and payment option that matches your console locale.

For example, if you are in France and set your console location to France, you will see French Store information. However, if your billing address is in Germany, you will not be able to purchase content because you must have a valid payment option connected to a French billing address.

If I purchase a game in one country or region, can I play it in another country or region?

Yes. There is no playback restriction on games purchased and downloaded.

For example, if you purchase and download a game in one country and then move to another country where the game isn’t available, you can still play the game that you downloaded. However, you would not be able to redownload the game you purchased, as it would not be available for you to download in the Store.
So that is mostly refering to changing your location on your xbox, which I note requires having a valid billing address there. Accessing different stores by region doesn't require you to change your billing info.

Just for fun, I pulled up that reddit post Major Nelson responded to. Major's posts in red, succinct points in blue. Note that he first addresses changing your account region to bypass geographical restrictions (content blocked by country), then goes on to agree that you're allowed to purchase content from any region.

KALIMBA is now avaible with GWG JP

/u/majornelson sorry for calling you, but are we allowed to do this? would rather not gamble with my account

majornelsonMajorNelson • 1y

Allowed to switch the region of your account to obtain content ?

Technically its against the TOU.

thenextname • 1y

You aren't switching the region of your account though? To do that you have to go through https://live.xbox.com/en-GB/AccountMigration - this is just buying from a different region's store.

You're switching the store you're buying from, which Albert Penello said was allowed as long as you have a valid payment method for that region - and even hinted at using gift cards (which since this is free, you don't need one anyway).

I think what /u/theterr0r was asking was are you allowed to play against the console being region free so that you are getting what's essentially an extra GWG that you kind of weren't supposed to get (As in, the offer isn't for you but it's available to you, if this makes sense)?

My opinion on the matter:

I personally don't see how this could get anyone banned though, you're allowed to buy from other regions so long as you have a payment method for that country and that's all you're technically doing here. It'd be pretty silly to ban anyone for it when they can remove licenses, it'd be much easier to do that than lose a customer over something that's a grey area and something so minuscule at that.

(This has happened in the past with other games that weren't available in Japan and noone got banned or licenses revoked, so I don't think you ban for it even if it's not technically allowed.)

thenextname • 1y

I'm not asking him, the other guy is, I was just pointing out to Major Nelson that he completely misunderstood what people are doing.

It's against the TOU to change your account region to somewhere you don't live, it's not against the TOU to buy from other regions.

Whether or not this extends to free offers like this is what the guy is asking, seeing as it's happened multiple times in the past and MS has done nothing about it, I went ahead with it.

And uhhh.. you are aware Kalimba is a Microsoft studios game right???? They aren't going to sue themselves..

majornelsonMajorNelson • 1y

Yup...I misunderstood.

As long as what you are doing does not violate the Xbox Live TOU - have fun.

thenextname • 1y

Thanks for clarification, hopefully that puts peoples minds at rest.

No worries about the misunderstanding.. I know how confusing it can be when trying to discuss things related to the store/account regions and one being allowed and the other not only adds to the complications

...I should also not be responding on Reddit when I am watching Game of Thrones :|

I thought it was one of the easier bosses. Most of the bosses have simple patterns and only a couple attacks. Just learn them and be patient and it should be easy.

I thought the game was going to be much more difficult than what it was. The only achievement I thought was difficult is the Steedrun achievement. I went for it a couple times but ended up getting too stressed out to continue. But I'll probably go back to it later to get it.

I'm finding bosses to be easy so far. The mole was annoying because I didn't know what to do for awhile and thought it was just a long fight. Some levels feel like they'd work better on PC. Like the ones where you have to gently move the right stick so you're aiming close.

I was thinking about the Oman Wars (I didn't participate) and its casualties. Everyone is rightfully being cautious now but other than policy, MS could have decided to ban those systems since it couldn't revoke the license whereas they have the ability to easily do it now. They could still ban systems but they have another option if they choose to.

I still don't think I can bite on Stardew Valley, so now my attention has turned to Ultimate Star Wars Battlefront. I hate playing online so I'm fine with bots, I'm just wondering if it's just random levels you play through or if there's any sense of progression at all. I know the new one is going to crush it in every possible way, but I figured to get everything for $10 might be worth it.

Anyone wanna talk me off the ledge or help me jump?

Can anyone explain what "date night drops" means?
Woaaahhh...noob alert! :)

It's just on Mondays when the weekly sales "drop" on XBL. It's our date night to spend a romantic evening talking about deals with our fellow Xbox mates. It's been a rocky relationship but we've stuck it out through thick and thin. Good times and bad. Emerging stronger after every crappy date night...

Weekly sales often start Monday night (rather than Tuesday), so we call it date night since we all flock to the thread to see the new deals.

I was thinking about the Oman Wars (I didn't participate) and its casualties.
Oman Wars was an entirely different thing than just buying stuff from a different region (we were taking advantage of a number of free items on a non-existent marketplace through a series of dubious steps), and I'm surprised people still don't seem to get that. We were just naive to think we were beyond punishment for that sort of shit. I don't think anyone's been banned just for making a legitimate foreign account to buy stuff with, and absolutely no one has been banned just for using a foreign version of Xbox.com (though they have made it so you need to buy games with the local currency so they must be aware that people do it).

That said, to this day I still wonder how some of us got away with the Oman stuff and some of us didn't.

I get what you're saying, I was just wondering if MS had the ability to revoke the licenses would they have taken that route and issued a warning instead of banning the consoles.
