Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

As someone who has not been into platformers recently, I am really finding Rayman Legends a ton of fun.  This turns out to be a great GWG. It is tough at spots but it gets you right back into the action after you die with generous checkpoints.  The Castle Rock level is just a joy to play.

For what it's worth, the games are somewhat different and Dead by Daylight doesn't have the major issues Friday the 13th has (both technical and gameplay-related).
My problem with Friday the 13th is that it's too teamwork-oriented. I don't like using a headset while playing unless I'm playing in a private game with friends (none of my friends have the slightest interest in the game), and a headset is pretty much required for that game. I'm forced to communicate with kids and immature punks who use the word "dank" unironically, or else everyone is doomed. I was hoping it was every man for himself trying to hide and escape from Jason, like a competition to see who escapes and who doesn't. Maybe that's more of what Dead by Daylight is? It's hard to tell from YouTube gameplay I'm watching.

Rayman Origins and Legends are the best 2D platformers this and last gen, with possible exception when compared to Mario 3D Land/world/whatever, depending on personal preference.

For those of you with questions about DBD, I have summoned our local Dead by Daylight expert. :bouncy:

Loved Dungeon Defenders, but devs barely supported Xbox 360 version. PC got practically 2 new games worth of content. I'll give 2 a chance.
Most likely because of the charging for patch policy (back in the day) and other such restrictions the 360 had compared to PC. I can't fault them TOO much. 2 should have better support.

I am not big on platformers either. I even skipped picking it up with PS+ when it was free. Ended up buying it for Vita and enjoyed it a lot.

I did not finish it though as it got really hard towards the end.
Sections at the end are invisible. Screw that.

I think maybe the only straight up platformer I have finished is New Super Mario 2.

I was sort of interested in Cuphead before they turned it into a full platformer. Before it seemed like (to me anyway) it was going to be a boss rush type game with minimal platforming.

Think I might pick up Bulletstorm. $19.99 with Cartwheel. Missed out on the BB deal last week.

Wow. Broken Age is finally coming to Xbox One, hopefully this means Day of The Tentacle Remastered is coming soon, too. Already have it on Steam and PS4, but would love to have the cheevos on the One.

If I don't spend the $25 GC on Bioshock, then I'll be waiting for Andromeda to hit $30. Either way it's like getting a free game with the HDD.

is the GC with the hard drive deal still going?
A quick look at the page suggests it isn't.

the original and it's sequel are both still pretty good.

Oddly enough, Infinite felt the most dated to me, and I didn't bother to finish it in this collection.
I loved Infinite when I played it, but it felt about 2 hours too long, it just dragged on. I really want to play the DLC though, so even if I don't play the full game, I'd play that.

I grew up on NES and SNES and I love 2D platformers. Origins/Legends are definitely some of the best modern takes on the genre, they are gorgeous to look at and have so much humor and charm. They steep the difficulty well, too, and do a great job of teaching you how to play through doing instead of endless tutorials. Great games and great design.

I wouldn't compare Mario 3D Land to them, though, since it's not a traditional 2D game. I do love that game, though, it's like the best elements of Mario 3 and Mario 64 came together to give a fresh take on the formula.

I'd hardly say a headset is required. I haven't sunk a ton of time into it but most of my matches have been without a mic. The map screen tells you what progress has been made towards the escape options.

I haven't used my mic since I found out Jason can hear you. I was heading back to the boat with the last item and tried to be nice and let people know to meet me there. Jason was waiting and wrecked me.

I never understood why more indie games wouldn't hit the Xbox outside of money hats. At least the ones with a few developers in it, not the single guy studios.

How fucking hard is it to port you game from Steam to XBox? The latest dev kits make that shit even easier. Also for example, Path of Exile developers took them ***2 HOURS*** to get it it running at 4k/60fps with the new development kits.

Even with the PS4 beating the X1 2:1 your looking at a install base close to 30 million and will be growing over the next few years.

Are Sony money hatting indies these days?

I know plenty of people have played both of these games, but looking at maybe picking up either Bulletstorm or Halo Wars 2 this week since they're 50% off at Target (plus I get an additional 15% off with red card and team member discount).

Played Bulletstorm on the 360 and enjoyed it so I know it's a game I enjoyed. Is the only new thing the addition of Duke Nukem? Also can't recall if he comes with the game or if he's DLC.

As for Halo Wars 2 I'm on the fence. I enjoy the Halo universe but I'm not the biggest into RTS games. XCom was solid the small amount of time I put into it but seems to be a genre I tend to ignore more often than not.

I've put 600 hours into DBD on Steam. I have no idea how it's going to be like on consoles but I'll tell you how it works on Steam. If you're playing entirely with randoms there'll be no voice communication whatsoever between you and the randoms, however they could be using third party software to voice chat to talk to each other since there's a "survive with friends" option that lets them queue up together. The Steam version was made so that it's built around not having any kind of chat (even text chat is left out) until the end of the match. After the match is done you can text chat with other survivors or the killer. It could end up being a bit different or mostly the same with voice on consoles, but I do know the lack of voice comms has a huge effect on balance in the PC version.

As far as teamwork goes, you'll see more people doing whatever the hell they want in low ranks but when you get to high ranks people tend to know how to play the game more effectively so teamwork is more seamless. There's not much of "competing to see who escapes", it's more about trying to get the most amount of bloodpoints without fucking over other teammates in the process. You get more bloodpoints by saving people, getting chased, and taking hits for others, so it kind of goes against the game structure to try to escape without helping everyone else. It is the more competitive game though, if that's what you're after.

DBD is FAR more balanced than F13, which can be either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your playstyle. In F13 Jason is meant to be OP, you're supposed to be able to kill the counselors with ease. In DBD once you hit high ranks survivors will have the potential of juking the shit out of the killer, doing pallet loops, flashlight stuns/blinding, and they've got a lot of perks/items that overall give them major advantages that you don't get in F13. That doesn't mean that the killers are weak or anything in DBD, just that survivors can survive a lot more efficiently once they know what they're doing. The problem? The community is very toxic. You'll get killers bitching about survivor playstyles and vice versa, and some killers may lobby dodge if they see that you're in a survive with friends group because you're likely using external voice chat. Camping/facecamping and slugging is a thing in DBD, and while the devs have implemented perks and ways to counter it, it's probably always going to continue to be a thing, and whenever the devs add new ways to counter playstyles there's always going to be new complaints on the forums. It has the most whiny community of any game I've played.

Bugs are consistent in both games unfortunately, which is sad when DBD has been out for a year lol. DBD has had issues with matchmaking since day one, where if you're in a survive with friends queue it can take forever to get matched up with a killer, but if you're playing by yourself the queue time is usually near instant. Supposedly they fixed the matchmaking in one of the recent patches but it's hard for me to check if it's actually fixed because there are more people playing due to the recent anniversary event going on (double bloodpoints, new bloodpoint offerings, and daily challenges that unlock cosmetic stuff). The most annoying bug that I've experienced is not being able to spectate after you die. Used to happen to me frequently, but it hasn't happened quite as much since the last major patch rolled out. I've had friends that have lost their game progress completely without any reimbursement by the devs, but the game save/progress bug has been fixed for a while so it's not really an issue anymore.

If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll try to answer them.

Just Dead Rising Mini Golf for me this week. (And Cave Story on Switch!). What about you guys?
Grim Legends 2 for sure. I'll keep Get Even on my radar for a sale.

well if you're not into RTS and already know you enjoy Bulletstorm - then probably Bulletstorm. I however think Halo Wars 2 has infinitely more replay value, different modes to play, a solid campaign, etc

Finished Lego Jurassic World to 100% this morning, now to clean up the random achievements later today like playing certain characters.

Bulletstorm is a great game. I'm not playing it as Duke Nuke'em, as I want to get a feel for the true main character. Perfect for picking up and putting down, and is a fairly easy shoot everything on screen and think of creative ways to kill people type of game. Great for winding down after a long day of work. Never played the original if that makes any difference

I agree. Kind of tired of seeing great indie games start on Steam, then get ported to all consoles except XB1, like it's poison. Freedom Planet being a good example. I really want that game on a console.

I'm super psyched, CEO just announced they'll be in my backyard next year. No excuse not to train up for MVCI, KOF14, and maybe other stuff.

Everyone on Earth should play Bulletstorm.
I will support them as soon as It drops to $20 on X1 with the duke dlc (or if I can get a cheap code somewhere...). $60 for a remaster is a tough pill to swallow. I know on PS4 Pro it's near 4k resolution so I would hope the Xone X gets the boost as well.

Edit: Speaking digitally of course. Fun fact/breaking news: I can't believe devs still don't match retail sales as well. They make even more off digital sales because MS only takes 30% where as they make, what, $4 off a $20 copy game at retail?

Stardew Valley is great. I don't know how to help you decide if you'll like it if you've never played Harvest Moon, though. But yeah, I farmed my ass off for like 15 hours this weekend, lol.

Regarding indie games on XB1, wasn't there something where MS didn't want PC games unless they launched on XB1 sinultaneously or at least on XB1 at the same time as PS4 or something? I seem to remember that at launch, XB1 had some kind of silly indie rules that cost them a lot of games, but (obviously) I can't remember what. Someone help, lol.

In addition, I've seen a lot of indie devs mention that MS was more difficult to deal with than Sony. Add the higher install base and yeah...not good. I mostly got PS4 to play cool indie games that weren't coming to XB1...other stuff like Uncharted is cool and all, but I'm more interested in indies and RPGs.

The parity clause is still a thing that affects releases along with developers preferring whatever the PS4 offers them that they can't get on Xbox One/Switch. I know certain developers have mentioned signing deals with Sony to get around some part of the parity clause, but I don't know if that's still a thing. Both consoles have lots of indie exclusives that don't make it over to the other console.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2017-05-04-gang-beasts-dev-parity-clause-means-we-cant-commit-to-xbox-one-release

Caved on Bioshock, since it has all the DLC which I haven't played and it's essentially free with the gift card. Really surprised that it's on two discs, I thought those days were behind us, but then again, I'd rather have two discs than download the other 25% of the game after install (lookin' at you, FFXV).

Yeah, at the obscene rate game sizes are growing, we'll be back at multidisc releases real soon. Especially if games start to include 4k megatextures.

Devs need to get better at compression, current file size bloat is just laziness.

So, I started playing Stardew Valley 4 days ago and embarrassingly I've already got 44 hours logged into it. When I first started playing I was kind of disappointed with it. I knew what it was, but I'd never really watched any gameplay of it so I didn't exactly know what to expect. As soon as you start the game you can pretty much do anything and everything and there's not really any kind of tutorial. It's extremely overwhelming at first, but after I played for about 3 hours all that disappointment went away and obviously I haven't been able to pull myself away from it. Definitely one of the most addicting games I've ever played and definitely worth the $11.24 if you're into these type of games. And this is coming from someone that's never played a Harvest Moon game.

Posting here since this is the most Microsoft product-friendly thread around.

If you're a dope like me and own a Windows Phone, prepare to be incredibly angry.

Skype on Windows Phone (including 8/8.1/and SUPPOSEDLY older builds of 10) is being killed on July 1st.

I use Skype a lot on my Windows 8.1 Phone (probably the app I use the most) and I'm fuming. They can't even support their own fucking phones with their own major apps.

I was eyeing a new phone anyway since it's been exactly 2 years since I bought my current phone and the low amount of RAM (1 GB) was starting to get annoying. But between this, their lies about my phone being eligible for the W10 update (it wasn't, only eligible for a Windows Insider build because I guess they didn't want to bother making a public version) and the general shitty app selection, I'm set on getting an Android and I'll never be buying related to Windows Phone ever again.

I hear Windows 10 Mobile is STILL absolute garbage and worse than 8/8.1 even after 2 years of development, anyway. You'd be better off just giving up on phones entirely MS. Buying Nokia was a mistake.

Microsoft has completely bailed on cellphones (again) about a year ago.

https://www.theverge.com/2016/5/25/11767200/microsoft-mobile-past-and-future
According to rumours, they seem to want to get back in (again).

https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/microsoft-surface-mobile-phone-news/

Skype's "discontinuation" is in part due to them wanting to move to the UWP version entirely for Windows products (the version that has a bunch of bloat that nobody asked for), so it's not like they're giving up on mobile Skype entirely (iPhone and Android will continue enjoying Skype as it currently exists because they can't resist all the money on those platforms). Seems like they're gearing up for a new version to be supported going forward (which would hint at a new line of phones), at the expense of the majority of their existing WP customer base (how many people actually own RECENTLY released Windows Phones?)

I loved my Windows Phone, best phone I ever had....of course ended up dropping it and it was just easier to switch to iPhone

I would switch back in a heartbeat

I appreciate you guys responding about Stardew Valley since I never got around to playing my physical copy today even though I had promised that I would boot it up today. I decided to take an "old man" nap this afternoon instead. ;)

The only thing that I can add is what I read about the game on Wikipedia earlier today. The only additions that the physical copy provides are an exclusive map, a code to download the soundtrack, and the guide book that comes in the case. Somehow, I don't think that the exclusive map will carry over to the digital copy if I decide to trade in the disc, but I don't have any confirmation of that. But, I was very intrigued by the fact that the game was created by one guy during a 4 year development cycle and that he was inspired to create it because he was a Harvest Moon fan who couldn't find work, so he decided to create the game as an example of what he could accomplish. That, by itself, is reason enough for me to finally give it a try. But, Sunday naps are one of the reasons why my backlog is so huge...among others.

I ended up getting a pile of money for my birthday instead of the single game I asked for, so I'm going to make the most of it. Anyone have an estimate on how long we'll have to wait for a $40 Injustice 2 sale? It's what I asked for but I don't know if I want to throw $50 at it personally.

Windows phone are great quality products in terms of performance and reliability.

The problem is they don't have many apps.

I've been using a Windows phone for the last five years but I am ready to drop them any month now because of the lack of apps.

No Savings Catcher App, WalMart App, Target Cartwheel and a bunch of other useful apps that I'm missing out on.

Uber works well for me though in the winter and the GPS service is fine.

If they made surface phone that ran on android I'd probably buy that. Otherwise I'm just waiting till this thing breaks and I'll buy a cheap android phone.

Does anyone know if the offer where you buy 3 months of Xbox Live and get a free copy of Rocket League for Xbox One is happening on the online Microsoft Store, or is it just at retailers such as Best Buy and GameStop?  I looked and didn't see it active there.  I've got $49 in Microsoft money, so I would prefer to buy it there.

Can't recommend the Google Pixel more highly, amazing smartphone.

Fallout Shelter can eat a bag of you know what, still haven't gotten any Legendary Dwellers from my weekly Lunchbox or ones I bring back from quests. Here's a duplicate outfit, duplicate weapon, duplicate theme!  :bomb:

I recently switched from Lumia 950 to Galaxy S8. I love gaming on WP but there was maybe one or 2 new games a month. I barely game on phone anyway but it is nice to have choices (and VR games). I'm still sad to see WP dying.

I am extremely sad to see Skype on WP getting killed. I spent hundreds, maybe thousands of hours talking to my girlfriend now wife through Skype on WP. For several months we literally were connected 24/7 in a Skype call. Sleep, eat, bathroom, appointments, family gatherings, etc.

Need to call Pied Piper.
