Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

So tell me why i bought the ssod bundle again if theyre just giving it away anyway? Anyway can someone explain why u get more lag on the x1 version of fifa 15 then the ps4 version? I have an open nat on x1 and did absolutely nothing network wise on ps4. Well they gave me outfits code. That totally makes up for buying a bundle with a game i could have got free anyway and factored the $60 into buying decision
Its a 24 demo, they dont get to keep the game forever.

Goddamn it.  I was opted in for emails from MS, but my old, non-existent email address was still linked.  I guess I'm screwed on any bonuses...

Looks like Limbo is out now. Just got my code and redeemed it. Haven't played it yet but it does open.
Yes, it's definitely out. I dled it, and I see a few people on my friends list have achievements unlocked from it.

I never got the email with my year one stats even though I am opted in, but the Limbo code came right in a message on the One.

Anyone figure out how to do this yet?

This GameSpot video is hilarious. I cant believe some of these guys have jobs in the industry.

I downloaded Limbo but didn't get to play it. Is it the exact same game? Remastered or anything? Limbo was gorgeous (and a lot of fun) when it first came out, looking forward to revisiting it soon.

Pffff... wow. That was almost like Onion level parody. Gamespot, I used to be a member and visit there frequently, seemed like they were with everyone about how Microsoft messed up and "oh it's better now but remember what they did when they released it", right right guys, high fives co-workers. Also that one guy wants another price cut, lol. Half that shit they talked about was addressed with the system updates so yeah I was scratching my head while watching that too.

The only thing I don't like is all the updates, this only applies to me though since I have a very odd internet environment right now, as I wish they had everything right, look at the other systems and they're getting updates as well, when they launched but like I said the updates from Microsoft's team and suggestions taken from fans have patched up almost everything atm.

Never in that video did they talk about the actual price of the system and or bundles, the now add-on Kinect, the experience of Xbox Live and the now pretty cool program of Games with Gold along with cloud storage/account sharing that let's you play your game on someone else's system.

Journalist seem to be half the problem these days. Don't get me started about Kotaku.

Lucy James- "I think it's actively out to get me."

Sums up the video pretty much, majority of the comments stray so far from the video title.

I thought the video made some good points, I agree with the TV and media integration which is why I bought one for my parents over a PS4 which is the same reason I got them a PS3 over a 360 for the blu-ray player etc.  Also some of the other arguments were spot on like the voice commands working 75% of the time and having to reprimand it to get it to respond, the power disparity compared to PC and PS4, and the fact that 90% of the libraries are going to be the same.  Again you Xbox fans are far too sensitive, the video wasn't that bad.

^ I dont mind people having an opinion and if you like to play on a ps4 or pc more thats fine. But its as if these guys havent touched an X1 since launch and are just talking out their ass. The Lucy James settings comment gives her away easy. Gamespot took a huge dive for me with this video.

It wasn't, but it was more so why I don't like the Xbox One instead of why you should get one.

Only thing I can agree with somewhat is the UI.  I have no problems navigating now, but it had a learning curve to it and in some ways is inferior to the latest 360 dashboard.  The original blades system from the 360 launch was in no way perfect either.

Well sometimes you only get 1 chance to make a first impression, however from a gaming magazine I can agree this is quite unacceptable.

Good point, the video should have been properly titled "why we won't be getting an Xbox One anytime soon." (except for the best looking person in this video who gets ridiculed for owning and liking it)

As for the UI, I actually like it even without voice commands, everything is right there on the main page. It does get a little cumbersome when you go into the store and stuff but no complaints by me. I think it'll really shine if/when they bring in transparent tiles, those mockups posted earlier in the thread make it look really good.

I wasn't even aware it was updated, I usually use the website to purchase and the last thing i purchased was Volgarr the Viking on GWG, I'll have to check out the updated store.

They updated the store layout.

it's much improved from what it once was.
Oh, I dont even remember what it was before tbh. I used it last night because I used a code that they sent me for sunset overdrive items and i redeemed it on the site and then had no idea at all how to download them to the system I was looking for something like the PSN store that shows everything ive gotten and then to download it
The store really needs to be improved. Its prob just me but its hard as shit for me to browse it.
I usually buy my stuff from the smartglass app, but I agree the store could still use some work.

People really seem to be overreacting to the gamespot thing imo.
I dont think so. These "gaming journalists" bashed the console without even owning one or spending enough time with it. They shoudn't be allowed to spread misinformation like that. I dont know if you watched the ps4 one yet but these guys seem very biased to me after watching both.

I dunno, I watched both videos and while they were more positive for PS4 than the Xbox One its not like they were just saying "Xbox One is horrible and you shouldn't own one" It seems like most of them agree that they really don't like the UI and I actually really understand that as it can be a pain to get around it without a kinect. I know they have made improvements to it and it will get better but to me it is a valid point but again, I guess that is subjective.

Just because they don't personally own one doesn't mean that they don't get to use the system at the office.

So help me out here. What exactly are people upset with? Not saying that to be a smart ass but generally want to know what people are taking offense to.

For me, the UI bashing is the worst. Its clear that many of them havent spent time with the console so they shouldn't have a say in the matter. Its not perfect but its far from "atrocious" once you get a feel for everything. It just seems like a paid advertisement from Sony honestly. The lady going on at the end about people making fun of her for liking it, really? Was that necessary?

I haven't used a PS4/Wii U to give you a honest opinion on them, but the tone between the XB1/PS4 videos is night and day.  Unless the PS4 is just a flawless console, no one really went out of there way to say why it's bad.  At most, you either have them say PC is their preferred platform and maybe one dude says "lack of games" which I can agree with personally for the time being.

Guess ill just agree to disagree then. I don't think its as bad as some are making it out to be. Either way, its just an opinion.
Watch both videos, there's a polarizing tone with each. Dude its like parody level.

To the gaming press that say they can't find the settings in the UI because it's horrid, the uphill battle, and the worst thing to do with the Xbox One blah blah:

You know you can get to settings by pressing the Menu Button and selecting Settings with 3 or 4 down presses on the analog stick... right?

Well yeah, once you learn the interface its easy but i seriously had no idea at first till i figured out to hit the menu button to access it.

Like I said, I watched both and i don't think its as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Agree to disagree. You won't change my mind and I wont change any of yours. It is what it is.

So because everyone was posting about it I had to now watch this video and..... Wow. That's a joke.

Two guys give zero specifics when talking about what they don't like about the console. "The UI is atrocious." Ok, any examples? One example?

Another guy says "I just had to tell my friend waiting days for an Xbox One to install a game that's just the Xbox One". Sorry that you have shit internet connection, nothing takes me any time to download.

The only guy with legit gripes is the one who actually owns the console. "I feel the need like I need to reprimand Kinect when taking to it". I sorta get that, it's voice commands. Robotic talking sort of helps. By far the worst thing using voice is the "Xbox On", I find the other commands using the system work almost every time besides maybe mistaking a CBS for a TBS.

The last girl's statement is very telling. "The office makes fun of me for owning one," meaning they are totally bias and out to bash the thing, period.

The downloading and installing on xbox is a wide problem and is a good point. Has nothing to do with shit internet. I can download a few gigs in a few minutes on my pc buy it took me 4+ hours to download and install sunset overdrive and even longer for halo.

I assume because it tries to download and install at the same time but its still crazy. I know a lot of people in this very thread said the same things.

Keep in mind the biggest thing in the download department is the amount of traffic with the Xbox One's servers. It'll be really bad the first few days of release, this'll improve over time. We can see that with the inclusion of pre-loading games arriving on the system now.

A few gigs as in 4-5 GB(assumingly) compared to maybe the 20 GB average on XB1 game downloads?  Is that even comparable?

The larger the download, the longer it should take to download.  On disc game installs are slow sure, but from the marketplace?  What are you honestly expecting?

With the scale of Azure I don't think there are a lot of issues in the way of traffic. I believe Deader is probably right. Because the console is trying to install and download at the same time the entire process is going to take longer. There is a huge difference between downloading a game and downloading a patch. The patches install after the download completes, while games install at the same time.

Installing something as you are downloading it is no easy feat - look no further than your PC or Mac, neither of which can do this.
