Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Happy New Year!

I'm expecting another great year for the Xbox One and gaming in general and with great games like Metal Gear Solid 5, Batman Arkham Knight, Halo 5 and The Witcher 3 coming out I expect we'll be in for a treat this year.

I hope with this New Year Publishers and Developers can commit to releasing great, polished products and try to mend the broken bridges they created with the shoddy game launches that released last year.

I freakin' love instant on.

Watching a bowl game/winter classic hockey and it's half time/intermission and I start up my system and boom right where I left off. Game is back on our need to do something, like walk an antsy dog lol, and just sit down the system and have it save my current game automatically.

This works perfect with Dragon Age's timed war missions. Come back with instant on mode and your missions have been scouted.

So Far Cry 4 or Lego Batman 3. Which one do you guys think will drop first/fastest?

Looking for a new open worldish game to play and I have it down to those two.

Honestly they will probably both drop in price around the same time. Previous Lego and FarCry titles have seemed to go on sale and drop in price relatively soon after release. I believe Lego Batman 3 is/has been on sale already on XBL. I haven't seen any great Far Cry deals yet though.

I'd expect Lego Batman 3 to go down faster since Lego games usually go on sale quickly and with the exception of Assassin's Creed Unity I don't think Ubisoft usually drops game prices that quickly.

Lowest Batman 3 has been on Amazon is $40 in the middle of December, while the lowest FC4 has been is $50.

I finished The Wolf Among Us last night (picked up the Telltale Bundle during the Countdown sales), and if any of you have that in your backlog, you should move it up the list. I had played a few episodes of TWD:S1 on 360 and enjoyed it, but I could not stop playing this one. There were a few minor technical hiccups, but nothing like some things I've read about some of Telltale's ports. Loved every minute of it, and it was a helluva way to start the new year.

After having it on my shelf for awhile now I finally started Dragon Age Inquisition and it's basically been impossible to put down. Super great game from the impressions of someone who never played the other two in the series.

Someone said they were speaking to a Xbox rep.

Could be complete crap.

According to people on SD's (Quite the source...) Microsoft Store Customer Support Agents are saying the price cut is extended/permanent and they were also extending their $100 Console trade-in promotion.

Probably best to wait until tomorrow and see what happens although I'd find it kind of hard to believe since Major Nelson was just tweeting yesterday about how today was the last chance to get one at $350.

(Edit) Yeah it was just BS. Price is $399 at Best Buy and Gamestop.

Are xbox one game saves backed up in the cloud? My kids knocked over my 3TB extrenal and now it won't work. My One is getting sent in for the second time for disc read issues so I can't figure it out on my own.
thanks in advance

I must have completely missed we can use externals now.

How is the speed compared to hdd vs external? Or is it just for game saves?

I picked up a 4TB WD My Book External drive and have a few games on there versus the internal. I see no real appreciable speed differences between the stock internal and the external WD drive.

I have the 1TB Touro (7200 rpm), and it's noticeable with initial loads. Install times seem faster, too. I wanted something bigger, but having access to 40-50 games at a time is plenty. The higher rpm was more important to me.

Thanks foe posting that, EastX. Its a good, thoughtful list. I was happy to see Strider on there. But dang, my friend, you really need to play Titanfall and Dragon Age!! 😁

Yes I do! I own Titanfall so that's only a matter of time. Will have to buy Dragon Age next time it goes on sale that I actually have funds (couldn't get it this time). Appreciate the kind words. :)

A couple games on that list I have yet to play (Strider still sits on my hard drive unplayed), but a good read overall.

If I had one nitpick, it'd be the inclusion of Rayman Legends. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game and it was one of my top games of 2013, but that's the thing. With it being out in 2013 (granted, not on the X1), the inclusion on a 2014 list seems off since they didn't really pack anything extra iirc.

Thanks for checking it out, JStryke. :)

I just decided to go by calendar year of release for Xbox One, otherwise I'd have had to disqualify Guacamelee, Warriors Orochi 3, and even Warframe (which started out on PC and GODDAMN PLAYSTATION 4 in 2013). Guacamelee and Warriors Orochi 3 do add more extra content than Rayman Legends, though. But you know, if I had a best Xbox One games of 2013 list, it would have been impossible for Rayman to be included, so I think its inclusion in this year's list is fair.

In addition to the PC, the PlayStation 4 version of Warframe released in November 2013. You always seem to forget that. :p

While I realize this will be a fruitless gesture, let me know if you want to play Titanfall sometime.

I plan on it! I'm not sure if I'll be playing it day one, but definitely will be getting it day one.

Anyone ever run into an issue with corrupt game saves?  I started to play DA: I last night and had it report that it couldn't make an auto-save since all of my save slots were used up.

After doing some searching, found about how to clear out the cached copy of game saves and that seemed to fix it.

Should I be worried about my internal drive having issues, or was it just some oddity just with DA: I?

2:50 you say the external needs to be vertical, I own the 3TB model and had it on it's side on top of X1. Just wondered why you mention the vertical aspect
That's what Western Digital recommends. I don't know if any harm can come from a horizontal orientation - presumably it would be a heat issue if so. I'm just going by the book on that issue in order to play it safe.

Forza 6 Launch Trailer came out today to coincide with the announcement of the new Ford GT. Microsoft and Ford partnered together for the announcement and the car will be on the cover of the game when it releases.

Pretty much confirms we'll see the game launch this year and that we're in a cycle of getting a new Forza X game one year followed by a new Forza Horizon game the next.
