I've received 2 coupons, but don't need either of them. I'll just buy the next amazing russian GG deal from Motoki. He lives at a McDonalds in Russia.

*sigh* I don't want it. I haven't played the first one. I passed on it at that price at the Humble store. Yet now I feel compelled to buy it for $4 with the coupon.
Hmmm - did you test out DI: Riptide when they had its Free Weekend on Steam, quite a bit ago?

EDIT:

I don't recall if Dead Island (original) actually had a Free Weekend...

I got the original free from Raptr ages ago and then never played it.

I don't know zombie games just aren't my thing except for Walking Dead, and Farm For Your Life I guess.

Since you have the original Dead Island (and paid zero for it), I do suggest you boot that up and give it a shot for a few hours - just to see if you like it...or not.

TBH - from what I played of Dead Island: Riptide (during its Free Weekend), Riptide was basically "more of the same" w/ a few tweaks, improvements, additions & changes - like an expansion pack would normally do, even though Riptide is a stand-alone game.

Riptide seemed a bit more polished than the original in some areas (less bugs, less issues, more straight-forward story - even though the story isn't anything to write home about), as well - but IMHO, Riptide lacks the magic that made the original what it was in the first place. While I didn't like the area of Riptide's island not even close to nearly as much as the original game's first area of Hanoi - Riptide still has that loot-crazy, loot-upgrading insanity, and action-fest that I loved about the original.

Just....don't expect story-depth, character-depth, or any of that - even though Dead Island's original slow-motion backwards trailer would make you think otherwise. To me - the Dead Island series is a melee-version of Borderlands 1 (ARPG) that's instead just infested w/ different kind of zombies to slaughter.

Yeah I kind of got that more of the same vibe from Riptide.

And I do remember that trailer and how a bunch of people were sort expecting something more Walking Deadish I guess and felt bait and switched.

I don't get the whole complaint about the DI trailer - plenty of other games (and especially FPSs) have trailers that show absolutely no gameplay and are just a bunch of pretty CGI visuals. Trailers by definition are meant to hype you up for something in a short amount of time, if you think they are an accurate reflection of the game *coughWatch_dogscough* then you're gonna have a bad time.

Does every sarcasm on this board really need to be explained or put in yellow comic sans?

The answer is clearly yes.

On the bright side, hopefully the sarcastically impaired CAGs are reading the Steam thread and magnetizing their hard drives as we speak.

Uh, the complaints about the trailer being misleading have almost nothing to do with visuals. I mean sure, some people were a little disappointed the game didn't look nearly as good as the trailer, but that wasn't the main issue. The main issue was that the trailer's tone was portraying Dead Island as a completely different kind of game. Everybody figured it was about zombie survival, but the trailer's tone was powerful and emotional. People thought they were going to get a dramatic zombie game. Instead we got this:

Worth buying DI Riptide Complete with the 20% coupon? Goes down to $4.

Edit: Oh wth, bought it, figures I had 2 20% discounts (of course I couldn't stack them) but 4$ was a fine price.

Edit 2: It's one key for the Complete Edition FYI.

Oh yeah! I already forgot about the 20% off coupon Gamersgate gave out to all the important, good looking, wittiest, great smelling, shiny coated customers. In for $4, even though I'm only about a coupla hours into Dead Island.

FWIW If you guys are buying Dead Island with the coupon before you do you might as well see if you can pick one up for a friend (or Ashes so she doesn't murder you). GG let's you buy up to two copies of the same game and the code works on the entire cart not just one game.

B/c that DI backwards trailer was NOT representative of the game. Many CGI trailers - they still are actually very indicative of what you're going to be getting for a game. They will pepper in elements, things, and whatnot - that are representative of new game features, game mechanics, game-worlds, and things of that nature. And yes - a lot of times, you have to actually be looking for this stuff, in the CGI trailers - b/c they're not telling you this stuff straight-up. They don't often show all or a lot of actual gameplay-footage in a trailer for a game (unfortunately).

Dead Island backwards trailer did NONE of that. The Dead Island backwards trailer gave me the impression that this will be a very personal, heavily story-driven + character-driven game - which, in the end, it certainly was NOT.

Luckily, I watched the GiantBomb QuickLook WAY before I got the game + read plenty of reviews before-hand - so, I basically realized that I was getting into a "Borderlands 1 like ARPG - but instead w/ a melee-combat focus; mostly zombies will be enemies; & a huge open-world on the resort of Hanoi."

I was absolutely fine w/ that - since I knew what the hell I was getting into ahead of time, before actually getting the game. I like zombies and ARPG's - so, I knew this would still be way up my alley, even despite the (only) disappointment of the story-depth + character-depth feeling lacking.

I still loved Dead Island (original).

EDIT:

Nothing in those poser "dramatic" 2deep4u zombie games has ever managed to answer the question though... Who do you voodoo, bitch?
If you're addicted to Dead Island's actual combat, the loot-craze that are in most ARPG's, and loot-upgrading ARPG elements - then you just been voodoo'ed. ;)

I know when I played Dead Island 1 - I certainly was. It was addictive and tons of fun.

I can see being disappointed that a cinematic got you excited for a game that ultimately wasn't.  But if you're mad because you bought a game based on the cinematic, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Is it any cheaper in mother Russia?
No unfortunately. But I'm probably going to grab I grabbed Demonicon anyway at 80% off + 20% off. I have a few bluecoins too to take it down slightly more so if someone wants it for $6 let me know because I can get two. It won't be until later this evening though.

Also there's a ton of little kalypso DLC on sale so might be a good spot to use some bluecoins on if anyone's missing any of it (and cares).

y u no buy it for $1.14 of Playfire credit!?
It was $1.25 at GMG 3 days ago? :wall:

I could have swore I checked the page and it wasn't on sale.

Oh well.

There's a ton of Kalypso stuff 80% off. I'm kind of eyeing Demonicon myself.
I have a decent amount of their library at this point, and considering all of it's been from bundles so far (aside from the Skydrift DLC), I've just decided not to buy any of their stuff from anything that's not a bundle.

It's a valid point but it does seem like dlc rarely gets bundled unless there's a gold/goty etc re-release which isn't always guaranteed. Tropico 5 will probably get one way down the road but some of the less high profile titles probably not.

Agreed. I think the only bundle with DLC outside of a Gold edition was the really good Kalypso bundle at BundleStars.

I don't think I'm missing any DLC from any game that doesn't have a Gold edition, really in the market mainly for Omerta Gold, Tropico 4 Complete, Tropico Trilogy, Last Templar and Anna, maybe their Port Royale and Patrician series too.

I liked First Templar. It's pretty old though and hasn't made it into a bundle yet AFAIK but who knows for the future.

*Edit: Anyone played Northland? Yeah yeah DRM free eww cooties. The one GG review described it ad a cross between Settlers and The Sims.

Anyway it's $1.99 on sale.

They're more legit than IndieRoyale at this point.
Which isn't saying much.

Anyhow I bought a lit of stuff on sale in the pre everything being bundled even publisher stuff days so they always have a ton of stuff I already have in their bundles.

I guess I was fakecag before fakecag was a thing.

I like Indieroyale only because its rep at least shows up in twitter once in a week. It's sad they dont see they need to change the structure pricing model. Also, too many debuts and remixes only nowadays
