CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.
thanks for the help, what im trying to find out, if i remember correctly, is if bestbuy charges shipping per item... so if you order 6 games..they charge 12 dollars at 2 dollars each per game.
1.99 per item I think. I don't have a car so this could be my only chance to get the few games I kinda want.
Jack - No way, i'm serious about Crash N Burn. I almost picked it up at $19.99, I saw it online at $4.99, but now it's 99 cents! I definately want it, it looks fun.
If the damn site ever lets me add something to the cart, I'll pick one up for you. If you can play it online like it seems from the box, I might pick one up myself.

Hmm... will Best Buy let you order something and send it to a different address than your billing address? If so, maybe I can get them to ship it to you direct, Scorch, so you can get your game faster.

Now... if the freakin' site will work! C'mon, BB!

I was wondering if you were up, well.. im sick and studying a bunch of stuff for tomorrow...i doubt im going to sleep :(... if it comes down to an hour of sleep or heading out for games.... the games will win ;). If you have a few things you want, I can pick them up for you... or i can pick ya up and we can ransack bestbuy together

1, This is impressively frustrating, not being able to add anything to my cart at all.

2, Are we thinking that these items might be in stock at our local BBs, even though they're showing up as out of stock everywhere(or is this just me)?
I'm about to go to bed for an hour or two and then try again.
Ditto. For once I am feeling sleepy. I'll try again later.

I called to place an order and they said:

"Our systems are updating and you can't place an order. We can't place one either for you since we just use the website to order for you. You should try calling back in 2 to 4 hours."

That's stupid. How do they expect to sell me cheap ass games if I can't buy them :(

1. Agreed, the "instock" but unable to add anything is annoying!

2. Who knows, this is a clear example of the reliability of their website. In the past, I have had games show up online but not be instore.

--- I called circuit city last week asking if they had Suikoden IV in stock.. the lady told me that they didnt carry Suikoden IV, however they did carry Suikoden 2...however she wasn't able to locate it.
some of the "4.99" titles i wanted are showing up as 9.99
Yeah any explanation for this yet?

I don't feel like having to price check games tomorrow before buying them.

Backorder emails are coming in.

Backordered for me so far:

1
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War Platinum Hits-Xbox

Status: Backordered

1
Final Fantasy VIII-PlayStation (PS one)

Well, I pricematched 1080 Avalanche at CC a few days ago using a printout of the BB 1080 page.... hopefully they'll let me do like 20 more tomorrow... if BB doesn't have anything for me of course.
A backorder on clearence items can't be good.
It's a crap shoot. Sometimes they come back, sometimes they're gone for good. Clearance games like Wario Ware GBA and RE: Dead Aim came in and out of stock all the time in the past. On the other hand, sometimes a clearance game would be Sold Out and never came back and thus the backorder would be cancelled after a certain number of days.

Fair enough, I'm just assuming that if they're clearancing these games at such low prices and all at once that they're not planning on buying more copies from the publishers. But, I certainly can't claim to understand Best Buy.

That just reminded me, I was backordered on Dead aim a loooong time ago.. I never checked to see if i was credited. Way too late, and too tired to check over 4.99 anyways. Ill make up for it in a few hours when i trigger Devil customer mode on upon my visit.

Now that sounds fun. I'll have to do the same.

It will help to arm yourselves with those 5 dollars off ps2 coupons... they dont like those. ;)

becareful though with how their online system is currently, .i wouldn't be surprised if when we get to the registers in the morning that these clearance titles won't even ring up.

Yeah, they just shut down the damn website so they update their OOS signs. Harvest Moon just went OOS on my Wish List while I still can't order anything.
Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls just went "Sold Out", too. Darn it, I don't wanna drive out to BB.
Both Dawn of Souls and Anthology went "Sold Out", came back in, and went "Sold Out" again. So, I have no idea what BB is doing with their inventory right now, but it's taunting me.

Sweet...it's working!! My order just went through!!

:(...that seems like the truth, as we know none of us have reported success. And the prices are going up and the inventory is decreasing.

Didn't get the exact games I wanted, but for $57, got 5 good games. I went to check my BB last night, and they really did not have much worth writing home about sans maybe a Midway or Namco Collection or TMNT 2 for cube. The rest pretty much sucked.

Still nothing for me...

But, dont you make a decent amount of cash? Its probably not worth your time to drive out there, gas+mytime is why im refreshing that page.

Finally got it working, cleared cookies a few times (hint: make sure you DON'T have the Best Buy page open in a browser when you clear the cookies), and then had no problem adding things to my cart. However, it showed that all but one of the games wasn't in stock at my local store, even though I'm pretty positive that they have them (they were there earlier this week when I was there), and the one that did show up as availible in the store was priced at $9.99 when it was supposed to be at $4.99. So for now, all I ordered was Silent Hill 4 since the rest of them were a bit too much for my liking when you add on shipping. I'll check the store tomorrow and see if I can get the rest of the ones I was looking for, but if not, at least I got Silent Hill 4, which was the main one I wanted.

im making a little less than i used to, but im also working a little less...but yeah, i can afford it...that doesn't mean that im not a cheap ass though ;)

i hate the thought of spending $10 extra on anything when that $10 could've gotten me a game, 2 games or 10 games

My closest BB is 50 miles away, so I would have spent about $10 in gas just to get there each way. Although, there were a few games I would have picked up had they been $4.99 instead of $9.99, I got a handful of cheap games I was interested in, and this route saves me a bunch of time!

Also, I just noticed that the Colin McRae I just ordered is actually 03, not 04 like the original post states. Just thought I'd add that in case anyone was looking for that title.

Finally got my order in. After tax and shipping, it's not *that* great, but good enough for me. Snagged:
Zelda GBA
GTA GBA
LoK Defiance
Pac-Man World/Vs. bundle
Crash'n'Burn Xbox

Total after tax/shipping: $43.45

not so hot but i finally got my order in,
midway arcade treasures 2
silent hill 4
the bard's tale
MGS Twin snakes
for 46.51
tax in new york sucks... but not as bad as their shipping costs.
i wanted to nab mr driller and godzilla save the earth as well because nothing else i wanted was in stock but the added shipping was just too much.

I tried in-store pickup but doesnt look like any local bestbuy has them. I'm still gonna head out later to see what else i can get or maybe i'll get lucky and be able to cancel my order.

Decided to try again and FINALLY got it to work.

$1.99 shipping charge per game so I just got Silent Hill 4, $7.28 total. Saved $.22 total after figuring in bus fare to and from BB and the time it would've taken me to go there.

Out of the 8 games that I wanted, only 2 were available that I was willing to pay the 2 dollars each shipping charge.

Silent Hill 4, and Dragonball for the Gba (which i almost bought 19.99 but was waiting for 9.99)

Fortunately, I should be able to pick up a few of the others in store.

Thanks CheapyD, thanks CAG, and thanks bestbuy for charging 2 dollars each per game to ship!

Is their inventory tracking system usually right? I don't want to bother going if none of the games I even care about are going to be at any of the besy buy's near me.

did prices not match the list for anyone? for instance, MGS twin snakes is listed as a 4.99 game but was 9.99 for me, same with bard's tale, and arcade treasures. silent hill 4 was the only one i got for the listed 4.99

Its not reliable from my exp.. but i was at my local BB recently, so i have a good guess of what should be left at my store...and I know what will be left if i dont go asap...btw when does bb usually open 9?

Yea most of the $4.99 games were actually $9.99, I passed on Bard's Tale because of that and the $1.99 handling fee.

The ones around me don't open until 10, but some I have seen open at 9. You can check via the store locator also. I am doubting I will find Ys 6 or Growlanser so I might just say screw it. I will probably buy Ys for the PSP when it comes out anyways, so that isn't a big loss...

Bards tale is also on pc, which for those who can wait should age like a lot of pc games where it can be expected to appear in a 7.99 or less price as time goes on.

Hehe. I'm currently on a trip to Hong Kong and couldn't get internet access until today. Because of the time difference, I'm able to order games from BB.com right before dinner time while the many of the CAGs are sleeping soundly. I know I paid $5 more for some games, but hey, I'm not going to be back soon enough anyway ($10 for Twin Snakes and Mech Assualt 2 LE isn't too bad). Unforunately, I couldn't get to the $0.99 games. O well...

Sweet, picked up MGS: Twin Snakes, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, and LOTR: The Third Age, all GCN, all for just under $20. Hopefully Best Buy actually ships these out, I've had bad experiences with their backorder system.

Picked up MGS Twin Snakes, Slugfest 2003 and Mr Driller. I thought by getting up early I had a chance but the $0.99 stuff must have sold out instanstly. Time to go back to sleep for another 2 1/2 hours

2 quick questions:

1.) Some of these games have greatest/platinum hits versions, do those versions still apply.

2.) When will you see the discounted price? (if they do a price check will the discounted price show up?)

Many thanks in advance
