I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

Someone here briefly mentioned that this clearance is supposed to last for a week. Anyone get some info to confirm or deny this? That will go a long way in determining whether or not I bother trying to get these shipped. If I'm gonna be cutting it close, then I won't bother.

Also I get antsy about a point someone else brought up... they asked how BB's would handle returns for an item that is no longer in their inventory. If these items are really being clearanced out, then that might be an issue.

I'll see what I do; now I'm leaning more towards just cancelling my earlier order. Then maybe I'll rebuild my cart/wishlist, and just try my luck with the (theoretical) online sale.

Oh and I know the website is all spotty with the accuracy. But if you actually complete an order on an item for in-store pickup, and then you get the "out of stock" email - by then is it pretty safe to say that they really don't have it? I got the email saying my items are all unavailable, but I still get this weird feeling like I'll walk into my local Best Buy and see a stack of Silent Hill 4's just sitting there.

I'm going the route of running over momentarily to pick up any must-have games that I'm hoping are there (though I'm sure they're not for the most part), then I'll just stop back tomorrow after work to PM and look for any potential trade-fodder games.

I asked a BB employee only because I was surprised about how little the store had. They knew the sale top to bottom. I don't know if the store managers prep their employees well or if these guys were good about looking at the BB intranet pages, but they seemed better than CC about their clearance sale.

I went for it anyway. It's a gamble, but worth it for the games that I wanted. I also have a funny feeling that as a clearance (i.e. not a sale), these games are going to remain at these prices until they're gone. If I can't get the PM, ill just return them and take the shipping hit.

grrr...i couldnt find a few of the games i wanted at my BB...if anyone can get extra copies of:

astro boy (gba), Excitebike Classic (gba), growlanser generations, narc, silent hill 4 (ps2), or crash nitro kart (xbox)

i could pay for the price it will be during the sale + shipping or i could trade games for it (either from the sale or from my tradelist)

Oh btw, my Bestbuy has Silent Hill 4 in stock for Xbox only, so I think they might have like 2 or 3 copies when I went in there earlier, so if anyone wants me to try and pick them up a copy and they are willing to pay me back, hit me a pm.

Okay, check it out, heres what we need to do. Every CAG must make a Fatwallet account. When a deal such as this one is leaked onto FW, everyone must vote it negative at once!
When the deal reaches a certain low rating, most viewers wont be able to see it. I saw users on anandtech do this once. It was awesome.

that's not such a bad idea. the problem i have with fatwallet is that all of the posters there openly encourage hoarding. people post shit like, "dood, i gots 1353256 copyys of teh xbx bloodrayne. fleabay her i kom!"

but at least they credited CAG, something gamespot won't do! :lol:

Its been implied, but take the store inventory indicator online with a grain of salt. Just picked up Two Towers and TMNT 2 for GC, TMNT 2 was not supposed to be in stock, but there were two copies. Plenty of others that were correctly not in stock, but I don't think I've ever seen some of those games at my store.

Yeah I worked in inventory at BB over the summer, and the "stock counts" are truely horrible. I'd constantly have to fill out online orders only to find, even though the PC systems said we had like 6-7 in stock, that we actually had 0. So i'd have to go back to the machine in the warehouse and set it as out of stock.

typically, though, it will take 1/4 of the time to get the number of views and posts that are seen here. it doesn't matter when they get the information, fatwallet will find a way to screw over everyone else.

it starts tomorrow. people are picking the stuff up today to take back to bestbuy tomorrow to get it PM'd.

It may online, though it's really hard to tell what time they will post the price changes. It might be 12 midnight, 3am, or 10am. I don't think anyone knows for sure.

I'll probably miss it, but hopefully my BB still has Drill Spirits, Growlanser, and Link to the Past by 7:30 or so when I can get there.
