Captain Lou Albano (1933-2009) memorial wrestling topic

I can't fucking believe that the WWE dragged their feet on Nigel and Danielson enough where TNA is in the position to grab them.

We really are reaching 1994 levels of suck right now.
Just read that there's a rather surprising name at TNA today ready to tape for TV.

Can anyone confirm?
Yes, Shane McMahon is at the taping. TNA! TNA! TNA!

If it's true about Nigel and Dragon, congratulations to TNA. That's a pretty solid snub to WWE that Nigel and Dragon would rather work there than in WWE for considerably less money - but it lets them still probably work indy shows, and for more money there since they'll be bigger names by the TV exposure.

Shitty part is Nigel's probably going to join the British Invasion, which doesn't bug me if he replaces Rob Terry.

Remember that sickening bump Daffney took at Bound For Glory? Of course you don't, because TNA probably barely filmed it.

Yeah, well...she broke her arm.

That Daffney bump was crap. Nobody should go from the turnbuckle to the floor in TNA - the distance from their ring to the guardrail is way too narrow.

That bump and Suicide/Daniels (finally saw it) were way too much physical exertion to put fake fighters through. Those were some bullshit ideas right there.

Typical that this crap comes from a company that thought "Skywalkers" was a match stipulation they should resurrect.
Jim Ross also had a Bells Palsy attack and is off Smackdown.

New Name = Dylan Wolfe.
Is Wolfe a permanent replacement? I don't really know too much (if anything) about Bells Palsy. I hope it's not too serious.
Remember that sickening bump Daffney took at Bound For Glory? Of course you don't, because TNA probably barely filmed it.

Looks like he's alright...kinda.

Jim Ross has updated his blog over at JRsBarBQ.com. He has reported that during a flight from Oklahoma to South Carolina on Monday night he suffered yet another Bell's Palsy attack. Ross wrote, "I was able to reach WWE doctors who were in Jacksonville for Raw and they were able to call in the medicines I needed to get started on to slow down the paralysis. Now we just wait and see how the meds work and Mother Nature takes her course. My plans are to tape SD tonite working with the King and perhaps even Michael Cole so we can make sure we can do the job that the product and the talents deserve."
Shame about Ross. I don't get the Dylan Wolfe reference. You young kids and your jokes these days.
It's the new name for that guy in the spoilers.

Hope JR recovers quickly. To think we'd be stuck with nothing but Striker and the Cole clones is disheartening. On a related note: Lawler needs to turn heel or go away.

Thanks for posting the Daniels bump. That was just balls-out stupid. Thank fuck he didn't end his career. I'd imagine he'll be a bit more careful in he future. Also, nice to see some genuine emotion from Taz.

Spoiler guy... I don't know. This seems like a bad idea, especially given that he says he had a verbal agreement with WWE. I mean, it's not as if Vince has a history of holding grudges or anything. Hope he's happy in TNA, since he's basically stuck there... I can't even envision what they'd do with him to give him enough clout to sign with WWE after screwing them.

On a reverse note: I really hope Booker doesn't come back (to either company).

Thanks for that link, Sporadic.

If an agent planned the Daniels/Suicide spot, they should be fired immediately.

If either of those two planned out the spot, they should be prohibited from calling a fucking thing in their own matches for six months.

It's stupid, and it sets a precedent for future matches and the spots used therein.

Disagree? Go back and see how many people are cryin' and moanin' because the Hell in the Cell PPV didn't feature any blood. Not the same thing as a stupid bump, for certain, but it is an example of what people have for expectations given a certain match. Imagine, if you will, a 6-person TNA scramble match without a "Tower of Doom" spot. Can't do it, can you?

It's called Hell in a Cell for a reason. I'm not expecting Foley bumps to happen every time they do one of those matches, but no blood? When they claim the HIAC is a brutal battle, life altering, etc, but there's not a drop of blood? It's the match to settle intense feuds, both men hate each other, and both guys are beating the complete shit out of each other but neither one loses a drop of blood? That really doesn't make any sense.

That X-Division match needs to be fuckin scrapped. Seeing those guys do gymnastics over the ring is hilarious. Daniels' drop was pretty scary, and didn't add a single thing to the match. That Daffney spot was also stupid and added nothing to the match. Even worse, they didn't even film it.

I can't believe WWE dropped the ball with Nigel and Dragon. Wow.

Dylan Wolfe sounds like an early 90's WWF jobber name, waiting to get squashed by Hercules and complete with "already in the ring" introduction.

I'm glad to see
Tomko
back - hopefully he gets used regularly after being screwed over a couple years ago when he was one of TNA's hottest acts.

Pat Tanaka did an F4W interview today, and aside from putting Marty Jannetty in the same league as Flair and HBK as an all-time great, he revealed that DDP's coming back to the ring. He also shared some of his ECW memories and shilled his www.mcwusa.us site, which features Hulk Hogan cutting a promo about the greatest midget wrestlers in the world.

Nigel in a program with Angle
Supposedly Nigel attacked Angle backstage early in the show and put him in the Tower Of London at some point in the ring. So happy for Nigel - good to see they're not throwing him into a random X Division match.

fucking right on. I'll actually be watching TNA this week for once in nearly god knows how many years. Oh yeah. The first Global Impact. Go Desmond Wolf.... Nigel McGuinness!

Great TNA spoiler there - that's in like with the F4W update on them pushing Nigel to the moon when he comes in, and damn is the November PPV set up to be fantastic. Between that and the rumored
AJ vs. Daniels vs. Joe II match
, this could be one of the few TNA PPVs that I actually buy instead of just buying the DVD of later. Also, Jeff Hardy's DVD match listing is out, and thankfully, it focuses on his '06'09 run, so it's pretty fantastic. Although they chose the worst Umaga-Jeff match to put on there, but I guess it's the only one that Jeff won, so that's why it's included. Their GAB match was far better.

Dylan Wolfe? That's Rob Terry bad, almost as bad a name as Scotty Goldman. Whoever came up with that name probably came up with Jethro Holiday as well. Might as well call him Dygmund Wellington.

^ Rob Terry is dude's legal name.

Scotty Goldman sounds like Vince caught wind of Cabana's legal name and asked Creative to "Jew it up."

Desmond Wolfe is...a wrestling name. It's three syllables, so fans might chant it. Who knows if it'll work out for him - at least he's getting put into a decent program, instead of jobbing to Tyler Reks and Chris Masters in dark matches and on Superstars.

EDIT: Seamus' entrance music doesn't fit him at all. It's the most unpalatable, paint-by-numbers theme WWE has ever used this side of Bob Holly's "How d'ya like me now?"

Is the dude he wrestled Puma on the indy circuit? Striker seemed to intimate that it was.

That'd be Puma unmasked. He's TJ Perkins, a local SoCal guy.

Well, Angle said he would put over younger talent so I guess he is keeping to his word.

I can't wait until they have Hernandez squash Rob Terry cause that dude plain sucks.

^
I think it's just Matt Hardy replacing JTG, because that's who was involved in the decision. That was the stip on Raw, so I'm guessing it'd be the same on SD.

But I could be wrong. If it is the way you say, then it's ridiculous to make that big of a change 5 days(1 show) before the PPV.

Yeah
I read that, guessing after RAW Monday someone noticed how hardcore the stacks were against SD, at least this makes it seem like they might win.

Hernandez already squashed Terry on some TNA PPV. He beat him with a shoulder block. Literally - that was it. One move. Best match of Terry's career.

I got Batista's DVD tonight at Wal-Mart for $20 - I love the special features on disc 1, and the documentary's good so far. J..R amused me a bit with his thoughts on Deacon Batista - "It may have been a hiccup creatively". It's also got a clip of Batista doing the Finlay Roll, which I never remembered him doing, but he pulled off really well - very impressive. Also, Angie, Batista's ex-wife, is hot.
^ Rob Terry is dude's legal name.
I was referring to how bad Terry is in general. I did tell you I would be using that phrase from time to time.:)

That's unfair - Terry's great at flexing. And making wacky faces while flexing. And at being squashed by Hernandez. And being called the BIG MUSCLE MAN!

You criticize Rob Terry within two posts of talking about how you shelled out $20, on purpose, for nothing but Batista matches? That's rich, dude. Batista's a modern day Ultimate Warrior in the ring.

That TNA news is pretty exciting. :)
Dylan Wolfe sounds like an early 90's WWF jobber name, waiting to get squashed by Hercules and complete with "already in the ring" introduction.
From what I read, it's Desmond Wolfe. Which is an awesome Englishman name, in my opinion. (All things considered.)

Yeah. It's Desmond. My initial info was wrong. And yes I agree. Desmond is a much more awesome sounding name.

I hate Batista. But even I have to admit he is a better wrestler than the Warrior. The key difference between them is the fact that at least one tries to go out there and have a good match. Warrior just goes through his routine. In fact Warrior's never had a good a match as the one Taker/Batista put on at Wrestlemania. And his current run has been relatively unpainful. According to Smackdown spoilers, CM Punk still seems to be the focal point of the brand.

While Ultimate Warriors sucked, at least he was fascinating to watch.

I recall having to repeatedly ask friends and classmates to explain to me what in the blue fuck Ultimate Warrior was supposed to be.

I still don't understand that gimmick.

You know those old homeless crazy people who are always in the "hip" part of town, walking up and down in front of the record stores, punk rock boutiques, concert halls, indian buffets and head shops, constantly asking for money and making up stories about their broken down car on the interstate, the time they had a chicken fight with Genghis Khan while riding on top of dinosaurs, or the Lithuanian military that's coming for them any minute now?

I think Warrior is what happens when that kind of person loses their way and finds a gymnasium instead of the college uptown area. There's no logic and no explanation, but by gum you're going to watch and wait and see what happens next.

You know about a half-dozen of those folks bare minimum, right?

EDIT:
I don’t know for sure, but there must be somewhere in Sun Tzu’s Art of War, that a loyal combatant does not voice criticism of their own side. I haven’t read it in a long time and, frankly, the best thing I like about the Chinese culture is the food, not books written by warlords wearing food bowls on their heads. I’m into Western culture, not Eastern.

It's funny you should say that, because there's a guy downtown who looks like the current-day Warrior, who uses the "my daughter's kid needs diapers" excuse.
