ChromeHounds - Gen. Discussion & Info
You have no idea. I've spent over 100hrs online alone on it, and I barely have time to play, I'm sure Santurio (Ramo Z) and Maximo are nearing the 200hr mark.

Playing it again last night made me wonder why we stopped.
You know why we stopped, its pretty simple . . .

Gears of War
Crackdown
Halo 3 Beta
R6 Vegas
Ghost Recon

and much much more . . .

I still really enjoy this game so I'm glad there is still interest in playing from the old crew and new people as well. Me and RX are thinking about playing tomorrow night if anyone sees us online playing hop into the lobby.
We got team colors that we all try to use. For instance were sporting the CAG Green/Orange/Dark Grey camoflauge right now. But I like your idea, neon colors would stand out really well.
I spent some time messing around in the garage last night trying to make a better hound (mostly make mine faster). I kind of went nuts with the color scheme and it doesn't match you guys, unfortunately. I couldn't really find what it was you were using so I went my own way. I ought to be fairly easy to spot now (though I didn't make it neon). I agree with Rusty Ghia, though, in that it would be better if we could tell our sqaud apart from the CPU ones a bit better. I was hesitant a few times to fire last night because I thought it was you guys (in a few of those the computer ones were very close in color to yours) and I ended up taking a few hits because of that.

So the specific "Individual Missions" count towards the squad record, or just regular ones (I haven't dared try a regular one solo)? The individual missions are pretty easy, though, and I can't see losing any of those. I won about 8 last night, so if that helps, great ;). I wish they had a little more variety to them though.

Under the paint details, you can load the Squad Colors and use them on your hound. This way, we all look the same and can spot each other more easily.

Hehe, I really am a noob then. I'm at 14 hours total, and most of that is single-player.

Mr. Anderson, for the price you can get this now (I got it at Best Buy for $15 AC when it was on sale for $19.99) it is a great game, even if you never play online. The single-player is short (I'm nearly done with it after about 10 hours) but I liked it. Then, of course, there's the whole online part.

Linkin - yeah, I'll give that a shot (though I like my current color scheme ;)). I had trouble telling you guys apart from some of the CPU hounds though, but that will become easier with more play I assume. I did discover that you can paste your Hound number as a decal - that might help as well.

i didnt know that, im gonna paste my number on.
also the missions give you very little money. 1 player battles give a lot more. i think i was getting 5-7k on the missions vs. 130k+ on the 1v1.
theyre not that hard. i havent come close to losing.
give it a shot.

I got tons of money and no need for it really since I just got the achievement last night for purchasing every part in the game (not DLC). If you need cash, when you see me on, let me know and I'll hook you up. Also, it was mentioned a few posts up, there should be some free DLC for Chromehounds on XBLM, make sure you grab that stuff as well.

i grabbed it all. the snipers suck, i think they only hold 3 rounds or something ridiculous.
are any of the dlc parts really good?

Never purchased any...well I did get the rifle that shoots 3 rounds. Thats it. None of them are particularly special. They weren't meant to lopside the battles againts players who didnt purchase. In other words, they aren't worth it. Stick to the stuff with fake money.

Where are the 1 vs 1 battles? I thought I could only pick a standard battle (which I didn't want to do by myself) or do the individual missions?

I'll check out the DLC next time I'm on.

Linkin - for that achievement, do you just need to buy everything that's available in the shop now or are there things you need to get that aren't in there now (eg, available to the other nations only)?

When you launch a mission, you select maximum number of players. Choose 1 and it will be 1v1.

The Achievement, you have to purchase atleast one of each part available through the store, per Nation, each Nation has different parts for sale. Once you own all parts for all 3 Nations, you get the achievement. This used to get quite hard as they used to have "rare" parts that were only available via lottery, but after months, it seems that everything is available to every one.

Cool, I'll try a 1v1 later tonight (if no one else is on for multi).

Ah, so you pretty much have to wait until the squad cycles through all the nations to get all the parts. Basically, then, it sounds like if I want any chance to get that achievement I should snag 1 of every Morskoj part right now in case we switch any time soon...

Yup.

I'm seriously considering repurchasing this. I'm done with school for the summer, and I need a game I can play before I go to bed. I got rid of my copy because all my friends that had it got rid of it before me. So, if I rebuy this, could I join in on the fun?

OK, cool... I didn't realize that you tailer the matches for the number of players. So even if just 2 of us are on it is worth jumping into a war battle. I did about 6 1 player war battles last night (won 'em all ;)). This gave me enough money to buy all the Morskoj parts.

I have another question about the achievements. It looks like many of them are for number of deployments (on different mobility bases) and things like COMBAS's captured, HQ's destroyed, enemies destroyed, etc. Do all these types only apply to war battles, or do they apply to the Individual Missions and single-player campaign too? I assume doing the 1 vs CPU war battle would trigger these at least. There's one for surviving 10 successive missions. Since I did 6 last night without dying, I'm wondering if I can just do 4 more and get that achievement. I'll give it a shot regardless and see what happens (though if I die for some reason I'd like to know if it is worth trying again).

I found that on the 1 player vs CPU matches the CPU tends to sit by it's base. I thought he'd be rushing to my base and then I'd rush to his and it would be a race to destroy the HQ. But in at least 4 of the games I played I got into a battle with CPU right near his base. He was just marching around in circles near it .

Also, I kind of noticed this in the multi-player games but it became really obvious when playing by myself - there are other CPU-controlled elements out there that are either on your side or playing for the other team. Is there any advantage at all (in terms of merit, money, whatever) in destroying these? I've been getting rid of them when they shoot at me of course, but I wondered if it was worth going through the trouble of getting ones from far away (I can snipe a few easily enough). If it is just a waste of ammo though it isn't worth it.

while im talking out of my ass, i dont think killing the turrets or other things, matters at all.
the last battle i played the cpu came cruising over to my base, i put a few rounds in him and he took off. i ended up killing him while he ran figure 8's in front of his base.

The Achievements about the COMBAS and deployements are only for battles online, even if its againts CPU opponents it still counts. The sytem does have a pretty good tracking system, when you're in the lobby and look at your profile, pressing RB or RT scrolls through pages, and tells you how many COMBAS you've captured, how many kills, how many bases destroyed...etc.

The CPU NPC's or whatever they are called, do give you cash for destroying them, not nearly enough as taking out an enemy Hound, but you get some $. I wouldn't really concentrate on them, unless they are actually hurting you, but there's always the satisfaction of taking out a little tank from a great big Hound :D. Just don't go crazy and use up rockets againts them...machine guns, shotguns, rifles, usually work great against the smaller NPC's, medium sized NPC's as well as heavy turrets on the other hand, will take some time with smaller weapons, so missles and rockets are best against those.

Ah, excellent - I didn't know the stats were accessible. Well, I'll look before and after my next battle to see where I'm at.

CPU NPC's is a good term for them. I'm guessing that the number that fight on your side vs the CPU side is related to the amount of control each nation has at that location? I've pretty much been doing what you suggested in terms of fighting them. Those heavy turrets can cause some damage when you are concentrating on the enemy hound and get pummelled in the side by one. I try to take those out from long range as I approach so I don't have to deal with them while searching for the CPU hound.

Well, to answer my own question - yes, you do indeed get the Survivor achievement (and medal) for 10 consecutive 1 player vs CPU battles. I played a few more and got it last night. I thought I blew it as I lost the 9th battle (CPU destoyed my HQ). But then I got the achievement after my next battle. I was just being stupid thinking I had lost it - as even though I lost the one battle I did return in one piece so it still counted. A few battles before that, though, I really did almost die. I got to the enemy base and was up on a ridge where I could pummel either him or his base. Just as I came around a COMBAS he started blasting me from below and a turret started getting me from the side. I got stuck up against the COMBAS and couldn't turn easily. By the time I got free I was in the red (with alarms flashing) on my cockpit health meter so I had to back away. I retreated over the ridge and lobbed the occasional rocket towards his base. Apparently he just stayed there defending it and didn't pursue me or go for my base. I had to run down about 7 minutes at that point but got a COMBAS win out of it...

What I noticed in my stats page is that I have ZERO HQ destroyed. I guess it doesn't count when the team gets it? You have to actually take the shot that brings it down? Or does it count if you help at least a little? It is hard to get the HQ win in 1 player vs CPU because 9 times out of 10 the CPU stays near his base and defends and you have to take him out instead. A couple other times I got to his base and started pounding it but then it ended saying I won with all enemies defeated. Either he killed himself somehow or the pathetic little CPU NPC's took him out .

There's also a stat that says "Shots Taken" or something like that. What is that one about? Mine only says 8 or something and I can't figure out what kind of shot I've only taken 8 of.

Yeah, the stats are kind of weird. Destroying and HQ counts towards you, only if you make the final blow on the base. its not as hard as you think. The easiest/quickest way is to build a fast hound, either wheels or hovercraft, then add for piles, (look like giant nails), equip 3/4 machineguns for defensive purposes against NPC's and such. Drive up to the base, get as close to it, use the piles, while they reload, shoot the crap out of it with the machine guns, then go back to piles...repeat about 4-5x's and your golden.

Shots Taken = How many Hounds you have taken out.

My copy just came in the mail yesterday, so if there's room and all that, let me know, I'd like to get in on some online action. Also, LinkinPrime, your friends list is full. Trim it :)
can i change nations without being booted form the squad? i just wanna go buy the other nations parts then switch back.
IIRC you can only switch once per war.
can i change nations without being booted form the squad? i just wanna go buy the other nations parts then switch back.
No. You would have to get out of the squad to change Nations by yourself. Just wait until the war is over and our Squad Leader Ramo Z will change it to something else. Wars usually last between a few days to a week.

EDIT: Quoted the wrong person. Thanks Dave.

ok. i thought they took a lot longer than that.

Linkin, I think you quoted the wrong guy. Anyway, I got my copy and Ramo and I tried to add me to the squad but I kept getting a "Connection Failed" message and couldn't connect to him for a voice chat. Apparently others have had this problem with Chromehounds and it was fixed by making sure everyone had an "Open" reading on their NAT instead of "Strict" or simply buying a new router. I don't necessarily want to buy a new router for only Chromehounds, as everything else works. I tried port forwarding and I've even now put the 360 in DMZ mode. We'll try it again, maybe when there are two others from the squad to approve me on, just to see if that changes anything.

I got into the squad last night. Ramo Z was online and I asked him to let me in. I got in no problem, but then he mentioned that he was talking to someone who has having trouble logging in. Must have been ThatDamnDave.

Any chance two Chromehounds CAGs could get on other than Ramo to see if I can't get added that way? He said if it wasn't him, it had to be two others on at the same time to approve. Maybe the issue was just between me and him, dunno.

well im sure by tomorrow night we could get you on dave.
and shit yea im on for tomorrow night. what time are we gonna get started?
I'll be on around 7 or 8pm PST
I'll try to join in but this is a BUSY week in my household and I'm not sure I'll be allowed to cut right into "family" time with my solo online gaming ;). But I'll try to give it a shot around 8pm Pacifc. I'm always up for LATE night games, though, if there's anyone else who wants to play 11pm-2am or so (Pacific). Seems like the only person likely to be up then is Cheapy in Japan ;).
Would you guys mind if I joined in on the fun as well?
Not at all, but Santurio (XBL Ramo Z) will have to be on, in order for you to join the squad...unless he cleared extra room.

I cleared out some room but most have been filled up already. I think right now there is still one open spot unless ThatDamnDave finally got accepted but I can clear out another one today after work so that Ahadi can join also.

Alright, I'm going to try and add myself to the group. So at very least when you fire the game up, you should see my request to join(I think).

Doesn't work that way, atleast one of us has to be online in order for the squad to show up when you search for us.
