Jets - 28
Dolphins - 7
The Jets open up their season in good form, with a solid win against a division rival. On the first series of the game, rookie DT, Rodney Tubbs, got a sack, forcing Miami to punt. The Jets gave the ball right back though, as Mark Sanchez threw a pick to a leaping Sean Smith, who was hawking the middle of the field.
With the Jets defense deep in its own territory, FS, Dontavis Norris made a huge play, intercepting Peter Newcomer, breaking a tackle and taking it back 82 yards for the first score of the game, in what would be a wild first quarter. After another Dolphins 3 and out, the Jets struck again, with Sanchez finding TE, Cameron Patterson for an 81 yard score. Miami drove the ball well on their next drive, until Dontavis Norris struck again, getting his 2nd INT deep in Jets territory.
Starting at their own 2 yard line, New York drove slowly down the field, using the majority of the 2nd quarter. They capped the drive off with a 9 yard TD strike to Golden Tate, with 0:17 left, giving them a 21-0 lead at half time. In the 2nd half, Miami fought valiantly, but the odds were just stacked against them. A muffed punt early in the 3rd quarter led to a quick score to give the Dolphins new life. But Jahvid Best answered with his longest run of the game, a 67 yard rumble to put the game out of reach. GG, fero. Newcomer didn't do you any favors with some inaccurate passes and then that fumble.
