Ah I didn't know that tidbit, explains a lot about the graphics even in comparison to other early gen PS2 games.
I don't know. It looks great to me on the PS2, though it looked absolutely fantastic for the PS1.

I really should know better than to only manually save a game when I'm quitting.  I'm like 11 hours into The Last of Us and get this bug where the "encounter" didn't initialize properly and won't reset either.  Latest working save I have access to is several hours back...  I don't want to walk away from the game but having to redo what has been the least enjoyable sections of the game so far isn't appealing.  To have such a crummy bug spoil an experience that was getting up in Baldur's Gate 2/Half-Life territory would be a real shame.

I have the SotC and Ico collection currently and I have defeated two of them so far. If I buy the SotC for 5 dollars, will my save file carry to it or will I start over? I really have no interest in Ico so I was going to buy this SotC and then sell my disk for basically what I bought it for.

Just wanted to let some of you know that Little Deviants is currently $7.99 on Amazon and Lumines is ~$10 along with Lego Lord of the Rings for $14.99. All new and for Vita. Considering Little Deviants for $7.99 new but it has so many bad reviews that I will probably resist.

and now with this crazy high amazon tiv, im gonna try to plow through trinity universe in a few days. good luck for that. i.e. i will play CoD 90% of the time next few days and spend a few hours on TU only to flip it anyway.
Yeah, have fun with that. That's a 70 hr platinum, and a lot of it (minimum 10-15 hrs) is straight up grinding... It was not fun. But if you're just going to beat it once, then I think it's around 25-30 hours? Second playthrough is super fast after that, then useless grinding on the drifts and 1 or 2 million points was the killer.

I played ICO initially on PS2 when it first came out, and hated it. Escort missions are one of the banes of my existence, I swear...

Stay away from Little Deviants. It was the first game I bought for Vita(I tend to ignore reviews and find that I like a lot of games that get bashed), but that is one of the worst games I've ever played... I wouldn't even take it if it was free. After the first few levels it gets really hard, and the game itself is broken, the controls don't even work half the time. No wonder the studio got shuttered.

I meant to say PS2 for Ico. It really has been so long ago.

That sucks running into that Last of Us bug. From what I've been hearing, it is such a great game that it warrants at least a 2nd playthrough. Maybe you should walk away from the game for a day or so. Hopefully, your disappointment with the bug will subside a little, and you can go back to the 2 hour mark and begin again. Do tell us a little bit more of this buy, though.

I assume you mean bug.

Where I am:

Happened in the hotel in Pittsburgh on the way back up from the basement. When you open the door to the kitchen/restaurant it's supposed to trigger a scene with a clicker and some hunters; the clicker spawned but that was it. I should have known something was wrong when I'm sneaking by it and the clicker just drops dead. Unfortunately a ladder should have spawned to let me get to the next area and that was missing like the hunters.

Spoiler free, when I transitioned to a new area it was supposed to spawn some enemies and an item needed to progress and neither showed up. Not knowing this until after the fact I just assumed the area was supposed to be empty and went about exploring it. Of course in doing so I wandered into the trigger for the next checkpoint which wiped out my ability to go back to right before it goofed and without the item can't progress.

Thanks for the heads-up

You're sure the ladder isn't there?  It's tricky to see.  That sucks about the glitch.  I've heard of people having autosave issues, but I had two pretty flawless playthroughs.

I am debating on getting PS+ but I have one question first.  I see there are free games for Vita/psp,  can I start the download on my PS3 just to get it into my download history?

I am debating getting a Vita in the near future so If i can get some games before they get taken down that would be nice.

Yes. I just bought my first plus membership since I'm moving to PS4 and dropping XBL Gold when it expires next year. I was able to "buy" the PSV/PSP games "just in case" (I have no intention of buying those consoles).

Yes, i dont have a vita either but ive purchased some vita games and can redownload them anytime i want, as long as i am a PS+ member.

to not sound like a broken record, I'd also like to add that it is infinitely more convenient to redeem them from the web store. I'm in the same boat, and am grabbing all the PSP/Vita games so I have a ton to play in a few months when I finally cave and buy one ;)

Oh happiest of happy days, decided to load Last of Us up and hope for the best and the ladder's there! I have no idea why it appeared now and not last night when I tried reloading and cycling the system several times and no luck but I'll take it.

Yep, now that I see where it was it definitely wasn't there. I don't think it was an autosave problem like people were having at the start of the game, just that because things didn't spawn where they were supposed to when I triggered the next autosave it went pear shaped.

As stated above the web store is the way to go even with PS3 downloads. So much faster and more convenient than dealing with it on the console.

That's good to hear.  You're getting to the point in the game where I switched from not getting the hype to thinking this was the best game I've played in years. :)

I don't specifically know what bug people are talking about, but I'm about 1 hour from my plat and have done all single player trophies.

I only experienced one glitch in all my playthroughs -- a ladder did not show up where i knew it was supposed to be. I reloaded my checkpoint from the menu and it was there. defeated enemies didn't even respawn, which was nice. zero loss.

I assume everyone who hits a bug like this tries this... but just in case, make sure you at least attempt this.

ps - the game is absolutely brilliant, and multiplayer is top notch if you're into a more tactical team based encounter like socom or counterstrike. run and gunners will not survive, team play will always win out.

Yeah, it didn't change anything last night but for some reason loading it up today the ladder was there. The MP is so good, makes me regret that I have to return it but I'm not keeping a damaged disc.

There was a bug with the autosave system that lost your progress but that was fixed in the first day or two if you downloaded the patch. I think whatever error I ran into might have been caused by the damaged disc since it hasn't hanged or anything but it loads really weird. The percentage will sometimes go backwards by up to 20% like it was loading in assets, had an error and had to reload them or something.

Any other Vita owners still having the problem with the Vita locking up while preparing to download? I thought they fixed it in the last firmware update, but it still happens to me. Seems like it happens every other time I download something. I also have trouble tapping on people in Toro's Friend Network. Maybe my Vita is messed up. Turning off the blinking / notifications for when friends sign in doesn't seem to work either and I still get notifications. Using the AC white bundle from black Friday.

how long does the story of the last of us last?
I played on Normal mode and took my time combing through everything and simply enjoying exploring and ended at 22:19. I'm sure most people here would gasp at that time, though. I would guess the average is 16-18 hours.

I played through normal and explored quite a bit and ended up with a time of 12 hours.
This makes me feel like a pretty incompetent gamer. I wonder if my play clock is screwed up. I don't see how I could be 10 hours more than someone else. I didn't die a whole lot, but there were some areas where I had to retry a few times.

Finally going to pick up a $20 PSN card tomorrow, been pretty lazy haha. Decided against Alice: Madness Returns. I wanted it at first, but checking out more gameplay videos, I have a feeling I'll lose interest halfway. Going to get Shadow of the Colossus, Ratchet & Clank Collection, and Lego Batman 2

The time to play sites seem to agree on about 12 hours but I'm at 12 and about 60% of the way through. I'm playing on Normal and taking my time to explore the atmosphere and side story bits but not spending a lot of time dawdling or anything. I had the same thing with Dead Space 3 though. Finished at 23-24 hours compared to the 16 the sites reported and I blazed through that as fast as I could so I could flip it. Even if you count an hour or two of dawdling and the section I kept getting lost in while backtracking it was still a nice chunk over 20.

Also, I think the Vita Walking Dead bundle coming next month at $250 is confirmation that we're not seeing an actual price drop until after the holidays at minimum and this is how they're going to make it more appealing from a value standpoint.

i don't know if reloading checkpoints resets the play clock or not, but i think most people will clock in around 15-20. it can certainly be done quicker, but if you play on hard and are slow and methodical it will definitely add time to the clock...

also if you're a perfectionist. for example, in areas i decide to stealth, i'll reload if the slightest thing goes wrong (like, the last person sees me even though it really doesn't matter.) if i just slaughtered everybody without stopping to care about stealth patterns, the first playthrough would have gone a lot faster.

my second playthrough was practically a speedrun since i just killed stuff or ran by stuff w/o care. but nothing survived my first playthrough, and any enemy stealthable never saw what hit them, and then i searched every area high and low, so i'm guessing my final time was on the longer end.

Haven't played the game, but sometimes I get confused when I look at my save file and it says something like 22:19 and I think I've been playing for 22 hours and 19 minutes, but in reality it's just that my last save was at 10:19pm (22:19 on a 24 hour clock). Not sure if this is the case, but I know it has been in other games before.

Sleeping Dogs had this, confused me a couple of times. I wish all games would just include a timer in a stats menu or something along those lines. It really helps for entering games into howlongtobeat, and also for comparing against others times to know how far you are along. Seems like something that would be easy to implement, but surprisingly few games have it at least from my experience

Two things, can't multiquote on mobile.
My vita still locks up on downloads.
My playthrough on normal with serious exploration was right at 13 hours.
Ah, hopefully they will patch it soon. Thanks for letting me know. I used paint park and the touch seems fine so I think it's just Toro. Another weird thing I forgot to mention is when I take it out of standby and try to swipe the lock page away, it moves but won't move down all the way. Takes about 5 seconds before it works right. This only occurs sometimes and seems to happen when notifications are shown on it.

Anyways, for anyone who grabbed rymdkapsel for free from PlayStation Home during the E3 event...you should check it out if you haven't already. It's pretty awesome. The only problem with it is that it made me think about FTL and how much I wish that was on the Vita. Even though they're not really similar at all.

If I got a PS+ game for free and now want to buy it (to own permanently) using the current PSN+ discount, is there any workaround so I can do that?

Unfortunately it says I already purchased the game so it won't let me buy it to own permanently. I really dislike this aspect of PS+ that once you get a game for free on PS+ you are prevented from ever buying it outright -- unless there is a workaround.

What's the difference between Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Komplete and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe? Do they overlap in content?

There is no current workaround for that particular situation. It doesn't help if you want to take advantage of a better PS+ discount but you could purchase games on sale on another account that were free for PS+ so that if you let your PS+ lapse you'd still have it on your other account. It doesn't really help since a major point is getting them for the best price so you have them later but that's the closest thing.

If by Mortal Kombat Komplete you mean the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection I think it comes with the older MK1, 2, and 3. Mortal Kombat (2011 I believe) is its own individual game, If you meant the Mortal Kombat Komplete version of this game I believe it comes with 4 dlc characters and I am not sure what else. Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe (2008) is just MK characters vs DC comics characters as the name says although I don't know as far as the mechanics and engine feel like a regular MK game as I have not played it. I apologize for not being very helpful but I thought I'd at least try, hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help you out more.

Mortal Kombat is the base game, Komplete is the base game plus all the DLC characters, and MK vs. DC Universe is an older game featuring MK characters along with DC heroes and villains.

Just sold my physical copy of Alice for nearly $20 on eBay and am just going to grab the $4 digital download on Tuesday. i've been doing that A LOT lately. Hopefully my 1TB drive stays alive for many many years to come.

Not to derail the topic but what's the maximum size drive you can put in a PS3?

IIRC the physical game came with a copy of the older game too right? Does the digital copy have it?

Edit: wow just saw metacritic, Alice madness returns has a 70! Guess I will be skipping it even at $4. Since I have a backlog I can only justify AAA game purchases right now. Anything that's not a must have is a must not have. Don't want to waste money.

No, it's pretty clear. I did shorthand for the time, but it actually says, "22 Hours and 9 minutes." The time it was last saved is listed underneath that. So yes, this confirms that I am incredibly slow. :)

I think the only bad thing about the game is that the levels seem to go on forever. They are very long, but overall from what i remember playing it on Xbox 360 its well worth 4 dollars! I even thought about buying it again.

Im still trying to decide if i should grab Mortal Kombat before the day is over. But i bought SF x Tekken for xbox 360 for 10 bucks and i only played it a few hours. I just dont know how much id play it, and its probably a game id never platinum due to its online achievements. But i am a huge kratos fan too, so just him being in the game makes me want it more.

MK is more of an instant-gratification game than Street Fighter, with a lot more single player content. The story mode is amazing. I know what you're thinking - who cares about stories in fighting games? But once you try it here, it'll spoil you for other fighters. I already had the game for Xbox and couldn't pass up the Vita version for $5.

I should mention that the PS3 version is just the base game and the Vita version is the Komplete version. Vita is only Komplete, I think.

Based on all the searching I did and my 13 hour playthrough I feel perhaps you sat staring at the gorgeous scenery from time to time?
Well, I did a little of that (TLOU is a beautiful and impressive game), but certainly not that much. I did go slow and I tend to be on the high side of time taken for campaigns, but usually not that much higher. I have seen a lot of other reports of 16-18 hours. While this is still much lower than my 22, those seem a little more reasonable and possible. I'm sure I could have done it in less than 20 if I really wanted to. You people with 12 or 13 hour playthroughs must be a lot more skilled than I am or will ever be. Either that or your playclock is messed up. Also, I wonder if the playclock still counts while the game is paused. That could account for some (certainly not all) of my time, if so.

Yeah, I believe someone mentioned that the digital version permits you to download the first Alice.

As CAGs, we evolve. Like pokemon. I think I'm also at the stage you're at. I wouldn't even buy Hydrophobia at .60. Alice has piqued my interest, though. Despite its mediocre reivews...the premise just seems like something i want to give a shot, so i'll probably bite.

I decided against Hydrophobia as well. I'm interested in it but the fact that it has a cliffhanger is a giant turnoff for me. Alice is somewhat interesting but I just can't justify buying it when I have other games to play. I guess the question is, how many games do people need in a backlog that they'll never play? At some point you've wasted a massive amount of money even if it's only 4 or 5 dollars per game.

Also, since this is digital it's a harder sell for me because I won't be able to re-sell it. I've had games in my backlog in the past that I decided I would never play and ended up reselling them still sealed. So yeah, AAA or bust for me until I play through a ton of other games.

I will definitely be picking up Alice since it's less than the price of a sandwich and is TWO games, the PC version of the original Alice (which I've always wanted to play) has a metacritic score of 85 if that makes any difference
