Check back often! Seriously this is not the best sale though.

The in-stock sale is usually the best time to buy manga from TRSI. DVDs and Blu-rays have a better discount when there are studio sales.

Since I want more Full Metal Panic I ordered the first two Full Metal Panic novels. Also, since there is a preorder bonus—a shirt—for preordering Kannagi Vol. 2 I went ahead and ordered Kannagi Vol. 1 and 2. I was already planning on getting both Kannagi volumes eventually, but that preorder bonus is enticing, so I am ordering them now.

Haven't seen any worth while sale on RS for some time. I ordered the entire One Piece Season 2 boxes during the Funimation sale, but otherwise, quite.

At this point, I'm largely just waiting for the next Viz and Bandai sales... Viz especially, since both me and my BF skipped the last one... that's gonna be a few hundred dollars worth of crap right there. (Good thing I've got money set aside for it. ;))

If they have a Viz sale, I hope they get the Maison Ikkoku DVD sets back in stock. I know it has almost zero chance of happening, but I already have season 1 and I really wanted the others. I just held off too long, unless Viz's site still has it.

Ha, good luck with that. They're all *long* out of print, now.
I have a huge backlog of other stuff anyway. I guess I'll look for it on eBay.
I don't know if you've seen what the sets are fetching on eBay and other secondhand retailers these days, but... prepare to go bankrupt.

It appears they aren't that expensive, $30-50 each.

Last time I looked it was about $100 per season at least. When I do try to get them, I'll pace myself and get one every couple of months or so. I have no vices or other hobbies that are expensive (although I do need a new bowling ball), so I can afford it. I remember how it was with the Ranma sets I bought years ago.

New sale is up on RightStuf.com:

From now through September 21, take 40% OFF the retail prices of all DVDs and graphic novels from Section23 Films, Sentai Filmworks, Switchblade Pictures and Happy Carrot. (This includes items that are in-stock, pre-order and on-order!)
How? Just use the following reusable coupon code when you check out through RightStuf.com:
Coupon Code: timeout
Expires: September 21, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. CDT
I ordered Clannad After Story 1 and some filler for free shipping.

$14.99 - Barefoot Gen DVD
$21.59 - Clannad After Story DVD Collection 1
$14.99 - Nausicaa: Valley of the Wind DVD

Definitely pick up Azumanga Daioh and Princess Tutu if you haven't already! Clannad is also good if you enjoyed Air and Kanon, though it's subtitled only if your preference is dubs.

I absolutely, whole-heartedly agree with this. These two shows occupy two spots in my top three. BUY THEM NOW!!

Not impressed with this sale sadly, and since Kanon was a little too cute for me, i don't think i should buy Clannad even though that's a pretty good price.

You need to rethink your definition of cute. Kanon does have some cute moments, but I would never label the show overall as cute. Instead it revolves around comedy and drama. Oh, and Clannad is fucking fantastic, so you should buy it.

Here's what I ended up preordering:

 • Clannad After Story Collection 1
 • Tears to Tiara Collection 1
 • Polyphonica Complete Collection
 • He is My Master Complete Collection
I did slightly more research than I normally do. The reviews for Polyphonica and He is My Master were mixed, but I watched the openings for both shows and I liked them; actually, the opening song for He is My Master is pretty damn awesome.

I'd also say Clannad is significantly better than Kanon. But if you already ODed on Kanon's cuteness (and don't get me started on the sappy emotional manipulation) then you'll probably have problems with Clannad too, even though it's a bit more mature.

Apart from Clannad... dang, those are some bad life decisions. :whistle2:(
Essentially, yes. ADV Films is dead.
I think it's more like ADV is in the Witness Protection Program.

Basically, to avoid the legal issues caused by Sojitz (aka the guys that pulled all ADV's liscenses last year) owning 20% of the company, ADV went 'out of business' and sold their assets to 8-ish new companies... companies that have exsisted for a few weeks to a few months, are owned by former ADV employees, hired pretty much all the former ADV employees, and worked out dealings with each other so well ADV's release schedule went completely unchanged.

I like it- it's nice to see an anime company wriggle out of a bad business deal, keep itself going, and help get the fans what we want most- new crap! After all Section 23 announced 5 new titles the day after ADV 'went under'.

My main problem is, as much as I want to give these guys some support, I'm not familiar with any of these new titles, and can't figure out what, if any, to buy. I'll have to look into things over the next few days...

Man this thread really fell off. Current sale is for Aurora publishing , which ends today , but that's not really the reason I'm bumping this thread (if that was the case I'd just wait for the new sale and bump it tomorrow).

The real question is a matter of keeping the OP up to date. As it stands I'm having a hard time as of late being able to find time to properly update and format the OP (lots of night shifts at work) or perhaps its not time but motivation >.> , but I'm not here to discuss that now.

However , most of the problem comes from the actual formatting of the OP , which tends to take the longest time. Typing the sale list up isn't very time consuming , but formatting the links and such is annoying. So here's my question to anyone that might care to offer an opinion on the matter. Would you rather me keep the OP format the way it is now , and I'll just work harder to try and keep it properly updated. Or would you rather me switch the formatting to a more simplified version , but in turn , I should be able to (almost) always keep the OP updated and current.

Questions and discuss are welcome in the matter.

A simplified version, I think, is perfectly acceptable. I think something to the effect of sale name->basic description (whatever% off whatever studio)& coupon code->link to sale->link to weekly specials. There's not need to keep noting specific 'worthy' titles or notable from the specials, that stuff usually comes up in the discussion anyway. Also, I wouldn't bother with the 3-day sales on the main page, anyone who cares enough about anime/manga to follow this thread'll know to check for those whenever the big sales expire- and there can still be posts about it, I just don't think the front page edit is that important.

Yeah, that'd be fine. Honestly, i gave up looking at the OP anyway >.>
There's not need to keep noting specific 'worthy' titles or notable from the specials
I usually pay attention to these, and then look up reviews.
It would help some people, IMO. Either way is fine, whatever is easier for the OP.

Damn, I just looking up prices for the Ippo (Fighting Spirit or w/e in English) series on Amazon and they were going for about $8 shipped from marketplace and MAYBE $5ish shipped for some of the volumes. But saw this thread luckily just now and all the volumes are $5 on Rightstuf :D. Niceeee .
Viz sale, finally.
My sentiments exactly. Placed a $115 order for myself and a $350 order for my fiance... it would've been more if DVDs were included, but I can work around that.

Figured out afterwards I missed 2 books though, so I need to go through the bargain bin for some free shipping filler and get those.

What is so good about Princess Tutu? I want to want it, but "OMG it's so good because of it's goodliness, go buy it cause it's good" doesn't do anything for me.

I'm in the mood for something disturbingly violent. How's Shigurui?

I'm also wondering if I should be making the transition to Bluray now. Ugh, decisions decisions. Bluray is so expensive, after all.
What is so good about Princess Tutu? I want to want it, but "OMG it's so good because of it's goodliness, go buy it cause it's good" doesn't do anything for me.
Princess Tutu is a Proper Fairy Tale in anime form. By proper, I mean like the original Cinderella were the stepsisters cut off toes to fit into the glass slipper, only to be caught when birds point out the blood to the Prince, and get their eyes pecked out by same birds at the wedding.

It follows the tale of a girl named Duck- or is it a Duck who's a girl? And her journey to restore the shattered heart of her prince. There's a lot of ballet involved (naturally), transitions into sprawling fantasy enviroments, and a classical music score- each episode focuses on a specific Ballet and pulls the music from the original score. I don't want to go into too much detail (spoils the story and all), but there's twists and turns and we question just how much control the characters have over their fates.

If that sounds remotely interesting, give it a shot- the presentation is lovely and you'll almost certainly adore it. (And ballet will make a lot more sense.)
I'm in the mood for something disturbingly violent. How's Shigurui?
By my readings, gorgeously and disturbingly violent. Some lady gets her nipple bitten off. :puke: Haven't actually seen it tho' (and not going to- I don't like gory.)
What is so good about Princess Tutu? I want to want it, but "OMG it's so good because of it's goodliness, go buy it cause it's good" doesn't do anything for me.
I think DuelLadyS summed it up quite nicely. It's a fantastic dark fairytale, mixed with ballet themes, fantastic characters, and a compelling plot. I simply cannot sing its praises enough.
I'm in the mood for something disturbingly violent. How's Shigurui?
Disturbingly violent. Definitely not good, but it *is* disturbingly violent.

Goddamnit, Ahiru and Mute, not Duck and Mytho frikkin' official subs.

But yes a very nice series.
Not at all. The animation quality is horrible, the music sub-par and the characters/story just terrible. It's the anime equivalent of a Backstreet Boys Saturday-morning cartoon.
Thanks. I could avoid it then.

How is the series, Shakugan no Shana?

Wow, Slayers movie box is $20.
Goddamnit, Ahiru and Mute, not Duck and Mytho frikkin' official subs.

Face reality, the proper name is Mytho. Even the ancient fansubs eventually fixed their error for the second half of the show. I'll agree with you about the literal translation of "Ahiru" (Never, NEVER translate names, damnit!!), but Mytho is 100% correct.
Does any recommend this series? http://www.rightstuf.com/1-800-338-6827/catalogmgr/8G1M77WwAMg32tMreJ/browse/item/84282/4/153/100
Quite possibly the absolute *worst* anime I've ever watched. And that says a lot.
Goddamnit, Ahiru and Mute, not Duck and Mytho frikkin' official subs.

But yes a very nice series.
I'll let Mute/Mytho go (That's more pronuciation issues and a matter of personal taste), but I do think translating Ahiru into Duck was completely appropriate- Ahiru is not, in any way, a normal name in Japan. This would be lost on your typical viewer outside of Japan, who would hear an exotic sounding name. By swtiching to what the word means- Duck- you re-establish that "wait, that's not a name" reaction... and I think the narrative is better for it.

But that's just me.
Does any recommend this series?
Nope- Weiss Kreuz is ugly and stupid and best viewed by teenage girls in groups so they can be too busy making yaoi jokes to notice the low production values. That's how I watched it anyway... tried again a few years later when the fangirl wore off and was completely shocked by how bad it was.

Fantastic outtakes in the extras, though. Great stuff.
How is the series, Shakugan no Shana?
Shana's not bad- it's the standard shiny-looking modern action show with Tsundere/loli notes... but it pulls off some good animation and storytelling. It's worth the sale price, anyway.

I liked it alot, really- but I try to be more 'general' when describing anime to people since my tastes tend to be... odd (I really enjoy the 1963 Astroboy, for example- no one else I know does.)

Much as I liked it, I can't, at the moment, think of anything that puts it up beyond any other well-made action anime (aside from being very pretty, in a shiny way. :D) Don't want to over endorse it, y'know? Creates false expectations.

Makes Sense. I just thought it was good enough to recommend it.
Again, and I cannot emphasize this point enough...

Done. I probably should have bought it during the ADV sale last month, though, but $25 is a nice price.

Thanks! I picked up Claymore and School Rumble OVA, which is now $6.

Yay! You've made me so happy! :D

How much was Princess Tutu during that ADV sale?

I'm going to put Kirin's zealous pushing to the test and netflix as a keeper evaluation before committing.
