Speed Grapher is not worth $6. In fact, if somebody offered to *pay* me $6 to take their copy of Speed Grapher, assuming I couldn't just throw it away afterwards, I'd still turn them down. That shit is ten hours of my life that I'll never get back.
I only see a 38 dollar listing of the Speed Grapher Viridian Collection box set. Anyway, I think you are being way too harsh on Speed Grapher. I thought it was pretty good, but what do I know, huh? Haha. ;)

Heh, more like "Gilga-fucking-awful."
Lol. I've seen mixed reviews, but most says " Promises to Deliver, but never does."
That's an overly kind way of putting it, yeah. Rarely have I seen such a slow, nihilistic, poorly-paced, poorly-animated, gray, incredibly boring show like Gilgamesh. There's no payoff, either - the ending is a huge slap in the face and basically mocks you for wasting you time with it. Avoid at all costs.

I've got to ask... Is there any series that you've disliked enough that you didn't watch EVERY SINGLE EPISODE? I mean, are you thinking: "Well, I hated the first four episodes, but I'd better watch eight more hours just to be sure"?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any. Clearly I love punishing myself.

I think it all boils down to Ye Old Standby Reponse For Bad Anime- "It gets better." Everyone you ever meet who likes a show you don't says that, and after awhile you start watching things all the way through just to see if they're right.

I watched the first 8-minute episode of Lucky Star and hated it. I still find myself thinking about buying the boxset... and I blame that echoing 'It gets better!' in the back of my head. (And I usually drown it out so well, too...)

Well, as long as you're getting something out of it.

It just seems like you'd enjoy anime a bit more if you weren't compelled to watch so much. Personally, I buy significantly more DVDs than I ever watch, so I appreciate your negative reviews. The unopened copies of El Hazard TV sitting on the shelf don't bother me much if I know there's much better uses for my time.

That's how I felt about Gantz... how strange.

I really don't watch as much as I used to, and I have that same problem with buying way more than I can watch. I'll get around to it eventually! Maybe... Oh, and there *are* much better uses for your time than watching the El Hazard TV series. I re-watched that again last year for some reason, and I kept wishing it were the OVA the whole time.

Gilgamesh makes Gantz look like a masterpiece by comparison. And I don't like Gantz.

Right Stuf just put up a Media Blasters sale. I fully expect everyone here—who has not already purchased the Doujin Work DVDs and manga—is going to purchase all of both now. No excuses! Do not disappoint me. ;)

Do not listen to this man - at least, not in regards to the anime (I can't vouch for the manga, but Razzuel has notoriously low standards...). Doujin Work is mediocre at best, and does nothing particularly well, especially when compared to the far-superior Genshiken. If you're looking for *good* Media Blasters titles, go with the afore-mentioned Genshiken, Phoenix, Ah! My Goddess, or Moribito.

All of the ones you listed bored me.

I want to get IkkiTousen... but... I can't spend cash..

I will be skipping this sale in favor of a nice frame for my recently purchased Hayate the Combat Butler genga sketch. Yay, production art! :D

Clearly...Kirin Lemon loves Utena. In my opinion that rules all and puts this thread to shame...but..finding that cheap would be worthy. Still looking for an excellent Code Geass deal. Any word on a season 1 box set yet.

You can't find Utena for cheap; trust me, I have already spent about 300 dollars so far. I own all three sets, but an Amazon Marketplace seller fucked me over with one of the sets, which is something I am currently trying to resolve. fucking bastard.

I knabbed those three Utena sets for 20.00 a piece when Central Park Media re-released before they crashed. Best thing I ever did. Anyways, I am looking to get individual volumes of Eureka Seven from Rightstuf. Cheaper that way. Is this anime series any count?

I bought all of the singles (or special editions when applicable) from Right Stuf a while ago. Uh, I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you are trying to ask with your question.

Well might as well answer all the questions that it COULD be!

Count:
There are 12 DVD volumes, totalling 50 episodes. In February they're releasing the movie as well.

Good:
Very, very good series. Starts off relatively light but the twists and turns just pull you along.

If you can manage to find Utena at FYE it's pretty cheap. I snagged all three boxsets during a B2G1 used sale and paid $56 less 10% plus tax for all three of them.

Another Question? On Eureka Seven...wich volumes have the boxsets to hold the seperate parts...it is confusing to me...I know vol. 1 has the box but does it then go to vol.7 that has a sep box to hold the series. And by any count it did mean good...I have always said it that way...been confusing to some in the past. Thanks for the answers guys. I'm a little laggy on anime...I own tons of old school stuff but can only afford newer when on sale.

Correct, you'll want the boxes with volume 1 and volume 7 to hold all the discs. Each box is designed to fix six volumes. If you're also after all the soundtracks, pick up the deluxe version of volume 12 too.

And thanks for recognizing the brilliance that is Utena, by the way!

A few questions about the current sale.

1. For Genshiken I see that there is a premium collection and an economy set. Is there a huge difference between these two to justify the difference in price?

2. Should I go ahead and pick up Genshiken 2? I'm worried about not having the complete season and having to wait for x amount of more singles to be released.

3. Someone mind telling me what a litebox is?

Lastly, I don't think I'll be picking up Moribito this time around. Simply can't see myself picking up a bunch of two packs. I rather wait for a season box set to come out.

1. I think the only difference between the Premium and Economy sets for Genshiken, is that the premium set comes with a nice art box; the economy set has like a thin cardboard slipcover that goes around all 3 volumes with different/not as good art on it.

2. Dunno. I'd personally wait for an economy set for that too, but that's just me. I'm cheap. And I guess there's no guarantee that there will even be one, since the show is not incredibly popular (even though it's awesome).

3. A litebox

I don't know if anyone here has bought any of the Doujin Work manga as a part of the Media Blasters sale, but volumes two through four made it into the Last Week's Top Manga Titles list on Right Stuf. I'm quite happy to see it selling because: a) it's fantastic and b) Media Blasters needs to get off their ass and at the very least announce release dates for volumes five and six. I don't know about Media Blasters' track record with manga, but if they don't release the last two volumes, then I am going to be very displeased.

Got an email from the site , mentioning that they have Bleach and Death Note seasons and movies on sale right now. The season sets are about $25 each , while the movies are between $12-$20. Seems like good prices (amazon does have many of the same items for the same price or cheaper though). Any remember seeing any of the stuff cheaper than that?

*Edit for including prices:
Bleach Seasons 1 and 2 = $25 each
Season 3 = $40
Season 4 = $30
Diamond Dust Rebellion = $18

Death Note Seasons 1 and 2 = $25 each
Live Action Movie 1 and 2 = $13 each
ReLight 2 = $15

Kick off the holiday season with special deals on selected DVDs, Blu-ray discs and box sets for a limited time – from Thanksgiving and Black Friday through 11:59 p.m. CST on Cyber Monday (November 30, 2009)!

How? There are no coupon codes for this one! The “your price” is the “sale price,” so just add the item to your shopping cart and check out to save.

But hurry! The sale ends on November 30, 2009 at 11:59 p.m. CST!
That's a great price on Castle of Cagliostro for those of you who don't own it. Phenomenal movie, and required viewing for all anime fans.
I thought I read somewhere that it had a shitty transfer , or was that an older dvd release of the movie? I've always wanted to get it , and if this version isn't garbage I might finally pick it up.

The Blu-ray sale items are calling out to me. Are Samurai 7 and FMP : Second Raid any good?

I haven't heard one way or the other about Cagliostro. I have the older version of the film, but this one is "remastered," for what it's worth.

Also, Samurai 7 and Second Raid are both fantastic.

Other than Cagliostro, I don't see anything I am interested in.

I highly recommend Shin-Chan. The writing is great. It is highly inappropriate and VERY funny. The only animated comedy in recent memory I have liked more is Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, the most underrated show ever on Cartoon Network, but that is another discussion for another time.
