This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

They’re listed on separate pages that are not linked on the main Forza Horizon 4 page.
On the Microsoft store I couldn't find them, but in-game I went to the section called DLC cars, and then went to those two manufacturers, and I added the cars to my account one by one. But after that they didn't appear in my garage. So went I went back to the DLC cars section and now it had a button to redeem all free cars which wasn't there before, when I chose this now it added the two cars to my garage. Pretty dumb system.

The Deus Ex Collection is on sale for <$10 at Green Man Gaming. Does anyone know if they are individual codes? Or is it a single code for everything? I only ask because I already have the first Deus Ex in my Steam library.

No clue, good question. Digging online; can't find anything. Did you ask GMG or their support?

I asked their Twitter - hopefully, they'll respond soon ->

Anyways, Deus Ex 1 is normally like 99 cents to $1.50 normally when on sale - so, it's honestly really worth the $8 if you're a GMG XP member to Collect the rest (or $9.34 or so if you aren't an XP Member). Deus Ex HR DC is awesome and so is MD Deluxe.

Did you check the Deus Ex Collection CAB on Steam? That looks like a Complete-A-Bundle - so you might get discounts if you own Deus Ex 1 on Steam, just to collect the rest. Check there - https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/2355/The_Deus_Ex_Collection/

All these games can be a royal PITA to run well and right, though - you're gonna need to mod, to get 'em all going right, on Windows. Not sure on the Deck though (Linux); ain't gotta Deck.

For example:
- MD needs you to edit CPU cores count to half of what you got, to get it going right.
- HR DC really needs its Phone Home crap removed...even in the GOG version, which also has this crap; it causes stutters without it removed. Remove the Phone Home and Telemetry and Dynamic Ads, you should be good on modern hardware.
- IW is a damn nightmare. You want Visible Upgrade, use a 4gb Patcher to patch it (to kill stutters), DGVoodoo2 to Widescreen it right, run the game itself in Windowed Mode, use BorderlessGaming or Fullscreenizer to force a fake full-screen, and other madness to get it solid. And it crashes a lot in final area, too...so save scum when you get there and "go full circle" there and are outside (you'll know what I mean, when you get there)! And you want to kill most programs running in the background (even NVidia stuff) and use Process Lasso to keep the Affinity CPU settings right and unchanging w/ every level load (since technically, the game's closing itself and reloading every level-load, like Morrowind and Deus Ex IW did on the Xbox to restart the RAM count so it don't memory leak.
- Deus Ex 1 is fine, if you use a solid renderer...like Donal's or Kentie's (if going vanilla); or use Revision and disable all the extras on Playthrough 1 (to go close to vanilla) if you're on modern hardware.

And MD Deluxe on Steam still has that garbage Denuvo crap around it. So, yeah - I do have that on GOG also...and the rest of the franchise too, since it's often so damn cheap.

If you can get them going right - OG Deus Ex 1 is the best game ever made IMHO; and HR DC is amazing and close to DE1. And MD Deluxe is great too...even despite its ending sucking b/c too much's left hanging - yeah, thanks a lot for that one, Square; we still need MD Part 2.

Thank you! I'll probably buy it from GMG as it's still cheaper than Steam's "complete a bundle" offer. I appreciate your help.

You're welcome. Glad to help out.

Enjoy the games, once you get 'em working and running. A lot of them rule - i.e. Deus Ex GOTY, HR DC, and MD Deluxe.
And if you can get IW going - kudos! And once you get it going: I do think it's underrated, even despite itself.

EDIT - I think even The Fall is underrated, since it's so hated. Another Deus Ex game, which never got wrapped-up...like MD and also we never got Deus Ex 3: Insurrection (sequel to Deus Ex 2: IW) either.

What do people usually do in terms of setting their mechanical hard drives to sleep, or just stay on all the time? I have always had mine run all the time, but just had an older one fail and been wondering if I'm doing it wrong.

Sorry if off-topic. It failed while playing a game, at least. 😅

Eh, drives fail over time and sometimes you can't do anything about it. My rule is if you are using it mostly as a storage drive put it on a 3-4 hour sleep timer and you know you won't be accessing it much via programs or files you have stored on it. I really only do that though if I don't want to hear the hd disk noise. I used to run it at 1-2 hours but I got tired of having to wait 3-5 seconds as the system stalled and woke up the drive when I accessed a file on it.

Over ten years ago the green energy type peoples made a big deal about the new "green" WD hard drives. They were set to aggressively power down when not in use. Saves tons of energy. They also only had 2 years of warranty instead of the then standard 3-5 years. What happened? Western Digital stopped selling "green" drives models for awhile because those drives were dying within their 2 year warranty. They wore out because the mechanical parts were spinning up and down too much.

TLDR, letting them run all the time isn't that bad of a thing, especially if it is in a daily driver computer or gaming system.

Yeah, I had two WD Greens fail very quickly. That's one reason I have never wanted to put drives to sleep. But I assume that most people do it.

I had a 8 TB WD external drive fail recently. My internal drives are mainly Seagate Barracudas (green 4s and 8 tbs). I have had worse luck with WD drives overall, but have had an old Seagate drive go out as well (it was like 500gb and backed up so no losses at least).

On another note anyone bought anything from the Summer Sale? I'm collecting cards, and probably will be buying like one or two rogue lite games soon enough.

Anyone else trying to complete the steam sale trading card badge? I guess it's smarter to wait til it's all over before trading cards. I still need 4 3.

Thanks for the trade @BrownDerby 👌
They expire like... 30 days (or more... it'll say in your inventory) after the end of the sale. People usually dump them for 3-4 cents so you can easily buy whatever you need after the sale is over.

I stopped caring about crafting badges years ago so I just sell them all on the market. I think some people used to buy card sets for tf2 keys though, not sure if that's still a thing.

I craft one badge just for fun then sell the rest.

I used to craft more to gain steam level for the minuscule increase in chance of getting booster packs, but once I hit 100 I stopped caring.

EDIT:
On the topic of cards. I sold a couple foils (i think) for like, $4+ and $2+. So that's cool.

I typically don't craft badges any more, but I did for Minishoot Adventures since I liked it so much, and I figured it would be easy to for this sale and I like the art.

Braid Anniversary, Total Warhammer II, and Subnautica Below Zero. Haven't touched 'em, though.

I miss the days when having a bunch of badges ready to make at the beginning of the sale meant getting a few dollars worth of free cards to sell. But more than any feature I'm angry Valve didn't follow through with even basic features they promised from the beginning with cards. They basically tossed the entire thing out in "beta" but never did anything more at all with it. At this point they've almost certainly made millions of dollars in commissions on card sales and they didn't bother to even have a single developer continue to work on anything related to it.

I did see that Gog is sending people emails with codes that make the Yakuza Complete Series for around $24.63 I'm only missing 2 of them, so not sure for me if its worth buying most of them again

I'm going to spend my points on those summer sale profile packs, I got one from the spring sale and liked it a lot. Spending points on a badge seems like a waste of valuable points.
To be fair, some people have so many points and don't have many things they want to spend them on. Especially when you buy a steam deck, it gives you a shit ton of points. I don't think I've ever run out. I still wouldn't use them on a badge though..I just don't care enough for badges

I interact with the Steam interface as little as humanly possible, so the only reason I even know points exist is the notifications I have to mark as read whenever I get one of those weird likes on a forum post I made in the discussions forums. I have no idea how many I have, and unless they can buy games I actually want, I don’t want to use them.

I've been wanting the de-listed Hot Wheels DLC for Forza Horizon 4 that's not part of the Ultimate Edition. I saw tonight that it was 20% off on Instant Gaming. From what I looked up, the site seemed sketchy and demanded a scan of your photo ID when you make a purchase. That seemed crazy but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on the site, so I assumed they must have stopped requiring that. So I paid with PayPal to be safe, and AFTER paying they took me to a verification screen and asked for my photo ID. There was a form at the bottom for if you don't want to do it and would like a refund. So I filled out that form and said I'm not going to do it. They responded by saying it's required and that if I don't want to do it they will cancel the order no problem. I replied saying I'd rather they just process the order and give me the key. If not, cancel it. So they replied saying "your order has been approved, sorry for the delay."

And the key worked, redeemed fine on the microsoft store and the cars are in my game.

Weird stuff.

I can tell someone my username and password. what are they going to do? start watching obituaries and banning accounts once the name associated with it shows up? Start banning accounts once age gets too high? I guess it would be impossible to add more funds (outside of prepaid steam cards) if you can't change the name associated with it, but there are legitimate reasons people could change their names.

Another Day Another Steam Impressions after playing for a 2 hours and 30 minutes. This one is for Chronicon, currently in the Fanatical Build your own Platinum Collection - July 2024 bundle with the Mechanist expansion.

To start off I think I'm really outgrowing the genre of action RPGs such as Diablo and in this case it almost feels Gauntlet like so take that bias right now. Chronicon is I believe a randomly generated action looter RPG where you pick a class and I believe can co-op with others. You get some simple quests, go achieve the quests, get loot and get more powerful along the way and rinse and repeat. Most generated rooms have junk to break (can get money from it and rarely items), chests, statues (give you limited time enchants similar to the Diablo altars), and so many enemies. To battle you have right and left clicks (similar to Diablo) and have those actions go out. You can also map skills to 1-4 which are generally active mana draining skills. You pretty much go fight some enemies in a kind of room arena, get some XP in gem form, use your skills and beat down enemies. You can move with the wasd controllers on the keyboard to get out of area of affect attacks mainly. You just go explore, gain items (too many honestly), equip your person, level up, and complete quests. Your class can gain both mastery levels and class levels as you level up. There are 5 I believe skill trees that you can dabble in, or in my opinion stick to one and make it the most powerful it can be. You also get mastery levels which you can get some stats from but these are generally extremely generic like more strength or health. Overall it's a decent enough playing albeit extremely repetitive experience. I can see it being slightly funner with co-op partners. Also I compared it to Gauntlet as in Gauntlet you go take out monster generators and try to find the exits. These arenas remind me of that, and sometimes the enemies have bonus abilities and are elites which grant more XP and possibly good loot.

The controls with mouse and keyboard are fine, although I believe it works well with the Series X controller, although I didn't try it out myself. The graphics are kind of silly with a SD character and the animations for everything are very simple. They're not amazing and feel very indie, but not super unpolished either. The sounds are pretty solid and I don't remember the music much. The voices are also a bit amateur, but are mainly reserved for bosses.

I think this is an okay action looter RPG with decent everything, although I feel the procedural generation is not the this games strong shoot. The environments felt very repetitive which added to the already repetitive action/loot/explore loop. I'd only really get it cheaply bundled, as I feel just playing something like Path of Exile, Diablo or other of its kin would be better. I'm not really a fan of these games anymore, but there is a niche for them. Overall I think this game is still fine and likely a 6.5/10, but doesn't reach being a very good game.

Alienware is running a streaming promotion and there's currently a few new-ish games you can get for what would be all time lows if you make a donation:

Games are Wild Legion for $1, Zet ZIllions for $2, Combo Card Clashers for $2 (which is pretty fun), Cocoon for $5, The Invincible for $10, The Thaumaturge for $15, and Remnant II for $15. Fairly limited amounts of each, pretty sure they're just what was leftover from the AWA game vault the past couple of months.

They'll also do an up to $20k donation if you buy the 1 ARP item on the AWA marketplace.

Edit: Combo Card Clashers and Cocoon already sold out, not sure if they'll do any restocks or not.

The whole Embracer thing really doesn't add up but it may just be as simple as they were leveraging what they thought was an unlimited gravy train from the Saudis and then the Saudis decided to cut them off.

I was taking a look at Rusty's Retirement and Spirit City Lo-fi Sessions, which are in a bundle together. 🤔

I picked up Spirit City in a trade and while I appreciate what it is, I can't say I'd really recommend it. It's got a bit of gamification but it definitely isn't a game or even that involved of a productivity tool. Whether it works for you in that capacity I have no idea but to me it only seems suited to someone in a work from home environment who works on their computer all day long and struggles to stay focused or maybe creative types who use their computers exclusively (writers, artists, etc) and want reminders to take breaks periodically. If that's you then it's probably worth a shot but if you're looking for games it doesn't really even qualify as something in the idle genre. And you'll know within the two hour refund limit if it is your thing because basically everything it is you'll be doing immediately as the unlocks are all cosmetic.

I got both and I like Spirit City, but I do work from home. Haven't tried Rusty's Retirement just yet.

Edit: Having Rusty's going on one monitor and Spirit City on another, it's a pretty chill vibe. Rusty's is a very low threat idler, but it takes effort up front to get the "idling" going.

Edit2: I am min-maxing a cozy farming idler now... my biofuel farm can crank out more fuel than I can produce produce.
