Yeah, I am liking it so far. My only real complaint is the too many sidequest/mission thing. I swear Lily just won't shut the hell up. I'm going to keep playing it - when I get burnt out I'll just stop. I used to 'force' myself to play games to completion.. but the backlog has made me realize that I'm just nuts (as it is I will probably never finish all of the games I own/will own so why the heck should I play something I'm not into). Of course the fact that I only paid $5 helps. I probably already got that much fun out of it.

Yeah, I played the first, and own the rest. I actually never finished the first one (always meant to go back to it, but never did). I ended up getting stuck in a constant barrage of grenades in a boss fight. The stand up animation took long enough that there was always another grenade going off to throw me back down again. Eventually I gave up. As for the time management aspects of it.. I wasn't a fan. I like to take my time & do everything if I am enjoying a game - and rarely play them more than once. So games that are designed for repeat plays.. well they don't sit well with me. Hell, I STILL haven't finished the DLC for Borderlands 2 because I got so burnt out re-running the main storyline (my gf really really wanted to do Ultimate Vault Hunter and I caved) and eventually I was just... done.

Once you get good at the game and have a handle on managing things, it's possible to do almost everything, but if you don't, it doesn't really matter. As for saving though, too bad! Death = death, bad things happening = bad things happening. It's part of what makes the game so brilliant.

State of Decay doesn't have anything like that, just some silly side missions that aren't unique and can be skipped with next to no repercussions.

Thanks for the tips! I really thought I was screwing things up royally. I was on my way to help a 'new survivor' at one point and then the waypoint just disappeared. It's good to know that he/she may show up again and also that some of the stuff doesn't really matter.

As for not saving making the game brilliant.. meh. ;p I don't really enjoy 'hardcore mode' in games. I play them to have fun.. once that stops and a game starts becoming work - I move on. Besides, the save comment was more about rolling back to do a mission I didn't realize was under such a time constraint, not so much about anything else (Oh, and the time I accidentally clicked build a barracks instead of storage.. that sucked too).

I guess this is the part where we're having some sort of communication breakdown because I have no idea what you are trying to say exactly and then I explain that he's misspelled a number of words in that post and he is the developer of the game thus it stands to reason that he perhaps might be adding some text to it.

Edit: Looks like he's been editing because the first time I read that there was some really poor spelling in it. Or I'm drunk. Or both.

Yeah, well helping new survivors out are usually recruitment missions for new survivors. If you let these expire, they may be gone for good, or they may stay as a little outpost of a couple survivors. In that case, sometimes that new little outpost of survivors will need your help, and helping them builds up your trust level with them. If you max out the trust, you can sometimes recruit a number of new survivors at once. Really, even if these things expire, it's fine. They're not unique occurrences. Keep playing and it will happen again. If you're in need of more survivors, focus on these missions when they come up. If you already have enough survivors and not enough space in your current base, ignore them.

But really, it's not that hardcore. It would be hardcore if you only had one or two survivors. In my game I think I have like 12 or more, all playable, most with pretty good skills. Fox ran into a situation where his favorite survivor died (while he was controlling him, survivors raaarely die on their own), and it put a damper on his wanting to play the game. I can understand that, but it's not very hard to build a new survivor's skills. I've had one survivor die (he was weak, though it was still demoralizing), and another die to a big zombie (who ripped her in half while I was reloading my gun, it was equally demoralizing). One other died to illness (scripted event, very hard to avoid) and another I expelled due to illness (also sort of scripted). Besides that, you have loads of survivors, can always recruit more (through Lily's radio abilities), and it's not the end of the world when survivors die. It's sad, it makes you angry, but it doesn't affect the difficulty as much as you think. You can even let ALL your survivors die, and the game will provide you new ones.

Gawd, talking about all of this is making me want to play again. It's an awesome game, and trust me, even though things do get repetitive, it gets fun when you branch out, get a new base, explore new areas, etc. Stick with it, it's such a cool game despite having its limits.

 
So... for some random reason (most likely stemming from complete boredom) I was looking through my Steam library and an odd thought came to me. Could I come up with a single favorite Steam game from my library, is it even possible to pick just one? Is it? IS IT?
 
Most of us have around 1000 Steam games and some even more. One thousand games! Sure a lot of it's bundle trash, but it's still not an easy decision to come up with your single most favorite Steam game. I don't know, I think my mind is just trying to subtly prove a point or something against my sometimes impulsive consumerist behavior.
 
Or I'm trying to get the thread back on track (haha, no laughing, I'm partially serious, I think). Or the peer pressure from my fellow CAGs has affected my judgement in what I should buy. Or bundle buying is approaching the point of ludicrous speed. Or throw logic out the window because it's late and I should be sleeping. (Edited to add: Insomnia is a real bitch.)

It's a great game and I do love it and want to revisit it one day. I can get over the survivor death it just came too soon for me. And I agree it's not as stressful as Dead Rising. It just has the same frantic, too much stuff to do feeling.

Out of my Steam library, I'd probably go with Fallout New Vegas. There's no other game that I can sink so much time into and have such fun with. Mods man, and a great game even without em.

You could always just restart. Did Maya or Marcus die? They're pretty interchangeable in the beginning of the game. If one dies, you should be able to recover. If both die, you're sorta screwed for awhile.

But yeah, just restart. You'll do much better this time through and things will go better since you're not fumbling around as much in the beginning.

That's my plan. It was Ludacris that died for me. I wasn't too deep into the game, I just think I was so fascinated by everything and had such big plans for everyone in my group. I didn't really care about the rest of the them, but thought my first ones would stick around a little longer and then they told me to go help some jackass in the woods and when I did a horde attacked and like an idiot I had gone solo.

Easy.

Just Cause 2. Yes, there are better games, but that was the first Steam game I ever picked up at a major discount. Ended up getting well over a hundred hours of ridiculous over-the-top fun.

Getting a solid two weeks out of a $20 game would be a selling point in my book.

I don't know about "favorite" but, if I was picking one game out of my Steam library for an extended deserted island vacation, I'd go Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl or Just Cause 2. Maybe JC2 just for world size and vehicles.

Most of us have around 1000 Steam games and some even more. One thousand games! Sure a lot of it's bundle trash, but it's still not an easy decision to come up with your single most favorite Steam game. I don't know, I think my mind is just trying to subtly prove a point or something against my sometimes impulsive consumerist behavior.

Or I'm trying to get the thread back on track (haha, no laughing, I'm partially serious, I think). Or the peer pressure from my fellow CAGs has affected my judgement in what I should buy. Or bundle buying is approaching the point of ludicrous speed. Or throw logic out the window because it's late and I should be sleeping. (Edited to add: Insomnia is a real bitch.)

Too bad I already have the first game. Now the second game I would enter a giveaway for. No way in hell I am buying that since they were such a PITA about putting their DLC on sale and yet would put the GOTY/whatever pack with all of it on sale. They've trained me now to wait for their complete pack to release and go on sale (or take it for free :p).

Own it, but have never really played it.

Favorite Steam game... Not sure I could really answer this one... Unless its a deserted island* and we can only have one game then I would probably just take Marvel Heroes as I've sunk the most time in that game and can go back to it when I feel inclined.
