The 2013-14 NFL Thread

They'd basically have to expand the roster if they did something like that. Probably to something like 65-72 players, which is insane. If they went with 18 games, they'd also have to adopt 2 bye weeks.
Having 2 bye weeks would solve the problem anyway...and honestly, I think that's the best solution. I get that the purpose of expanding the NFL schedule to 18 weeks is to make more money, and if teams had 2 bye weeks, they would just be playing the same number of games as they are now. But it would still allow the NFL to make more money because you'd have an extra week of TV coverage, an extra week of rivalry games, etc.

Yeah, I guess teams wouldn't reap the benefit of more ticket sales, but if you're having to consider new rules disallowing players from being able to play anyway, I don't really see how much you're accomplishing. Injuries are at an all-time high as it is. That extra bye week would also serve as an extra week of recovery. To me, that's a MUCH better option than nerfing defenses even more with new rules on how they can play the game.

I've even seen some arguments for making the pads smaller and not making the helmets out of such hard material as a way to REDUCE injuries because defensive players would be more conscious of how they're going in for a tackle, rather than treating themselves like a human torpedo. The comparison that's always brought up is rugby and how they don't have the same injuries you see in the NFL. It's an interesting discussion, but I think adding a 2nd bye week to an 18 week schedule would do a lot to help on all fronts.

"After 'giving up' on the season the Browns have won three straight" - every lazy sports writer. It's good seeing the Browns not suck but I wouldn't be surprised if they lost their next four even if they had "the next Tom Brady" playing.

Every time I think I know how bad the Jags are, somebody brings up a stat that amazes me. The Jags rank 32nd in DVOA (essentially Football WAR). The gap between 32nd and 31st is wider than the gap between 31st and 5th.

Anybody know of any in-game chats this season? Used to rotate among ESPN, SI, and Baltimore Sun CoverItLive chats, but all 3 are gone and their replacements suck horribly.

Also, James Ihedigbo has exceeded all my expectations.

Neogaf has a pretty active NFL/NBA community. I post there just as much as i post here in cag.

EDIT: oops my bad It's not a in-game chat, but a thread just like this.

God damn...Ryan Fitzpatrick sucks so much. It really tells you how awful the Buffalo Bills are that he started there for three years. Get well soon, Jake.

If I had said this morning that if, by halftime, St. Louis would have twice as many points as Detroit, Green Bay, and New England combined, what would your response be?

EDIT: As much as it sucks having most of the offense coming off of PI calls...I will take it. Ravens need all they can get.

This Bengals/Patriots game has been awesome to watch. It was raining buckets too! The Cincy D just looked nasty today.

Oh man Eli Manning reminds me of the first time I tried to play Madden on All Madden difficulty haha.

Dammit Ravens. 1 stop would have ended the game.

Dolts with the blatant PI right in front of the official and nothing happens, reminds me of that debacle  of a game vs tennesee last year  where colts got away with murder. Talk about upset sunday

lol claiborne looking like the bust he is.

lol i step out for 2 mins, come back and broncos are already leading wtf.

I hope Bill Barnwell rips Simms on Tuesday. You cannot go into any drive against Peyton Manning thinking you will hold him to a field goal. Going for 2 was the right move. Refusing to go for 2 outside of the end of the game means you will never rise above the level of Mike Smith.

Of course, then the Bust picks off Manning.

Those sun beams canNOT be easy to deal with.

And once again, Simms hates 2-pointers. Remind me again why he is CBS' top analyst?

This game has single-handedly saved a rather boring Sunday for the NFL.

Anybody going to watch Raiders/Chargers?

At&t stadium trying to give people seizures with that bullshit.

These are some trash tier defenses, great game my ass when you let that happen.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why the Cowboys "coddle" Dez Bryant.

Denver's D has to be wondering WTF they have to be blinded like that.

This is it right here. I don't see the Cowboys stopping Manning if he gets the ball back.

Edit: I was waiting for the interception

Crap. More Denver slurping this week. I am not even going to bother with MMQB.

As much crap as Romo will get for that pick, he deserved to win that one.

I don't think i was the only one that didn't call that pick before the cowboys even had the ball.
Yep I called the INT, and 2 others on my Facebook page also did, just shows how transparent Romo is. I will admit that was the best game I ever seen Romo play.

Holy shit that romo pick was right on sched. I called a taint but a INT is close enough lol.. And after that they should have really let their D sit on their butts and just let Broncos walk in a TD to give them enough time.

As a Cowboys fan I am not upset about this loss at all. Our offense hung with one of the best (if not the best) offenses in the game today. Well played, Broncos.

I haven't watched the Texans much but..

Hasn't Yates been decent every time he's had the chance?
yep. I remember his 1 win againt bengals and 1 playoff loss I forgot which team was it against might be ravens, and the game went down to a johnson jumpball that ended up being picked... So he really did better than expected on those games, I thought we gonna get blown out. Keenum can play too when he was in college.

call me crazy but I think Romo tripped on that throw and that is what caused the pick.

I was glad we got the win, our defense was mess today

Geez, the Texans have completely fallen apart. Pretty amazing.

Also, the Jags traded Monroe and his prize replacement is done for the year. I am beginning to feel sorry for Yo Gabba Gabbert.

and not only that, the defender knew there is not much of a risk if he gambles and goes for a pick since he knows there are 2 other guys around the receiver and 1st down is still far away. So he did dove for the ball, and it paid off. Murray was open too, idk why romo threw it on a triple covered guy. Clock management was also awful, though that is expected of garrett.

Not even watching texans game anymore.. Totally lost faith in schaub. Give yates a shot or keenum.
