ALERT: Preorders available for a few select games at most Blockbuster stores

Most regular Blockbuster locations (in addition to Gamerush stores of course) are taking preorders for Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Star Wars Force Unleashed, and possibly a few other games (YMMV on the cashier knowing about it). $5 is required for a deposit.

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos and to post any trade-in values you have obtained. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system. One of the CAG Wiki editors will then add them to the Wiki.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Gamecrazy or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Gamerush's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Gamerush store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals which we haven't had recently anyway). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (GR to GC to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from GR.

General Info
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Many regular BB stores had a PS3 bundle available over Christmas and since then they have expanded their hardware sales. As of right now (Spring/Summer 2008) most Blockbuster stores are now selling PS3's, Xbox 360's, and Wii's. Most still do not sell handheld systems (a few apparently sell the DS but I've never seen them there). As a result of not selling used hardware, regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Only Gamerush stores allow for preorders of your choice of new games (though, it seems, some stores have stopped taking preorders). On the other hand, some regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for a few select mega-release titles (recent examples: Halo 3, SSBB, Mario Kart, GTA IV).

- While many Gamerush stores have cut back on their new game stock, some regular (non-GR) Blockbusters have started selling new games. They usually have a very limited selection of top-selling new 360, PS3, and Wii games. I will be maintaining a list below here for those with Blockbuster credit but no access to a GR store.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

New games that may be available for purchase at select non-GR Blockbusters
For those with access to only regular Blockbuster stores but wanting to take advantage of the decent trade-in values Blockbuster offers, this is the list of new games being sold by some regular Blockbuster locations. Note that they will generally not get new games on the release date. They will most likely have them a few days to weeks later. Stock is usually very limited and they do not seem to get restocks of most games. So once something is sold out they will most likely not get it back. Many of the "older "new games in the list below may be hard to find at this point.

Kunai, I have 2 avatar's that trade for 22 if you want them for 26 each. It sounds like you might be doing something not legal, but....

I went in to 3 different Targets today and some local CAG or regular assclown must have thought that jerico and folklore for $29.48 and 24.48 were awesome deals, because they were gone, and I had been waiting for them to drop to 12 and 14, decided to pick up 2 avatars @ 12.48 + a .70 target brand battery and the $5 off toy coupon for a total of $22.24 again for a flip of $47.18 to bring my GR credit up to 457 and some change.

It is kind of an intruiging mystery but I doubt that's the case as he's paying $4 more for the game + having to mail a value card (so the $5 extra makes it even out for what is a lot of work and some risk). I'm guessing it has something to do with his ability to turn GR credit into MORE than even money in real cash. But I could be wrong ;).
 
Yeah, my guess is that what he's doing is not exactly on the up and up otherwise he would not be willing to pay MORE than what it's worth, especially considering all of the trouble that each of us would be going through. It would be nice if he would fill us in instead of beating around the bush like someone else did w/ the GTA thing....
 
Is Tetris DS still considered rare? Saw it used at my local GR for $25 and was considering on picking it up if I could turn a profit.

It's rare, but you probably won't be able to turn much of a profit on it because eBay has been flooded with versions from Australia and other regions where it is not rare. You'd probably be able to sell it for $40 at most if you had good pictures and wrote up a good description specifying that it was the rare North American version.

It might be a decent pickup if you're looking to convert credit into cash. Spend $25 in credit and turn it into $40 cash.

Can't find a single one for that price, checked 8 different targets. plenty of crappy 360 titles that net hardly anything left. i've totaled about 10 avatars, 4 blue dragons, 2 juiced 2, 1 jerico, and 2 nhl 2k8's. I wish there were more jerico's and folklores, but I will take what I can get.

Oh and while i was at BB, i noticed they had 2 40 gig bundles (with spinderman) that weren't there before. They use to just have the 80 gig bundle that we all know, so maybe this is what they are bring in to replace them...maybe not.

He's not talking Gamerush - we all know GR stores are stocked to the gills with all kinds of wonderful hardware. It is a new thing that *some* regular Blockbusters are carrying plain 40GB PS3s (with Spiderman 3) and not just the overpriced 80GB bundle. I'm hoping when a new model comes out this Fall, perhaps, that the regular stores will stock these at the normal price (no Blockbuster-derived bundle).
 
ahhhh... I only have 2 BB's near me, the other 6 or so are all GR's, so I never bother going in to regular BB's anymore, might have to tomorrow though just to check it out.

His shipping all the games to Iraq, then writing off the full price as a charitible contributions for tax purposes... He then has his friends in Al Qaida ship him thwe games back and by doing so is sticking it to the man!!

It's part of his ask, don't tell policy. I am sure djkunai has GR/BB credit up the ying-yang so he is trying to cash out now.

Perhaps, though my 2 current most-played games (Lost Odyssey and SSBB) actually did come from regular Blockbusters so I'm not too upset about being 600+ miles from the nearest GR any more.

Beautiful, my BBs didn't have Lost Odyssey. No biggie to me, I wouldn't have bought it unless it was from BB. Maybe I'll wait for a used one...

Has anyone traded in GH3 for any system yet? I traded the game on Goozex and still have the guitar, which is of no use to me, and I was wondering what I could get for it @ GR or if they even take accessory trades. I am wanting to get it for PS3 once I get one....

B1G1 on all used games priced $14.99 and less, effective immediately. I didn't get a chance to check whether the it was automatic or if we have to scan a separate barcode to get it to work. If it's automatic, then this is good everywhere. If it's not, then it'll only work if signs are posted or you feel like arguing with the manager to check their e-mails.

Really? Heck yeah closest store to me has DMC1 and 3 for under 14.99 :) :)

You are right, they did that last time they had this deal. Hopefully someone can confirm it and give us more details today.
 
Just called one of my local BBs that usually is good at giving me the scoop and they weren't aware of any such sale. But maybe they just haven't gotten word yet.

If anyone confirms, please post. I know of a few titles I'd pick up with this deal (especially if they don't screw us on Xbox 360/Wii/PS3 like last time).
 
I called both my local stores, one hadn't heard anything and at the other store, the manager said she had just found out about it and that it starts Tuesday. If anybody else hears otherwise, please let us know. I saw some decent stuff I'd run out and grab if it were actually effective today.
 
I will go in later today to re-read the information and get all the info I can get (start dates, automatic vs. YMMV, etc.). And yes, they will probably raise the price of any 14.99 "next-gen" games on Sunday cause that's just the stupidity of BB.
 
Sucks that we have to wait for Tuesday. But I guess that buys them time to mark up the prices on the Next-Gen titles.
 
traded in NHL2k8 and 3 more avatar's to bring my credit total to 504.$$ Now I have to decide whether I want to wait for a new bundle or not.

confirmed by a GR manager that the NEW bundle is a 40GB w/HDMI cable and remote, similar to the 80, he said that it would be priced higher than a regular 40, but lower than the 80, obviously.

I will prolly get it tonight along with MLB the show. Can't wait to try out the PS3 and all of it's technological goodness.
 
I cant confrim anything, but when I went in today and cashed in some games I asked about speical upcomming promotions and the manager told me that "some big sale" is going to start this Tuesday. She did not have any details. I really hope its better than B1G1 free under 15.00. I dont buy cheap games like that unless Im going to flip them. 2 quick questions for you veterans..
1) does BB/GR ever have deals like buy 2 (xbox 360 or PS 3 ) games and get one free. (I have over 300 is store credit and I wating for a good way to spend it) If not I should just buy another system
2) What the TIV of Dark Kingdom PS3 (pick up a bunch today for 5 bucks a piece)
