I didn't even know it was "yours" at first - I though spamfree had made it (as it seemed most of the picture updates for a while were his). Oh yeah - :lol:

The kotaku article is interesting but the writer made a few errors - he claims the $740 average before Christmas was only $100 profit after taxes. Maybe he is unaware of how ebay makes it's money, but he isn't factoring in the $5-$30 in ebay fees and the $25 or so in PayPal fees. Plus many of those auctions (as he admits) were bundles as well as just plain systems. Thus the market at that point was even worse than he says!

I was being sarcastic about kongfunk being my friend :roll:. I am not posessive of this thread (believe me, you can post 100 replies about random crap and there is nothing I can do about it). If I pissed you off, then sorry. But I just didnt like how at some point all the talk is about people getting screwed on ebay. I have never seen so many scams as with PS3 auctions. If you don't pay in an hour, you don't get it. If you don't pay X dollars, you don't get everything. If you make a typo in your email, they give you a brown star and relist.

I would love to see how this goes down. Buyer pays $900, get box, "hey where the hell are my 10 games!". Contacts seller "Sorry dude you didn't read the fine print..." I thought about e-mailing the seller and congratulating them on being a shady crook but 1) I didn't want to risk the person getting cute and firing off some negative feedback and 2) It's really none of my business.

Whats funny about these auctions tanking is that I walked into a Sears on vacation and lucked into 2 Mario Mix DDR games, ones that sat there for months on end... I can make more profit on each of these, with less of an upfront cost and selling cost and paypal cost, than I would get from selling a PS3 right now... it's crazy

What pisses me off about the 2 chicks up above is stating that they dont want to work for their money for spring break... get a job... and learn to spell BOUGHT

The auction is relisted... and they will let it go at 660 now... obviously trying to recoup ebay fees from the failed auction :)
 
In response to the PS3 ad with "*10 Games", has anyone else seen any eBayers selling the Wii with 5 Games? A bunch of dipshits on CL have been advertising Wiis, and they love to include the line "comes with 5 games". The games they are referring to include Wii Sports Golf, Wii Sports Tennis, Wii Sports Boxing, Wii Sports Bowling, and some Wii Sports game I can't remember. Oh wait, those are all part of the same game! And that game is a fucking pack-in!

Just to clarify; Wii Sports does not equal 5 games. You don't go around parading Ridge Racer as 27 games simply because it sports 27 tracks, and you don't refer to Wario Ware as 200 seperate games because it has 200 mini-games. Dammit, I want to take these people behind a shed and beat them with a fucking hoe! I'm gonna go take some advil now.

About 1/2 of the Wii auctions have the "includes 5 games" in the title. One of the funniest things is to do a search just for "Wii". You'll come up with thousands of non-video game auctions. People are just throwing the work Wii in their titles to get more hits! It's crazy... You might get more hits but is someone gooa say "well I was searching for a Wii but this waffle iron will work".

I don't think it has to die, it just needs to evolve into people posing with their photos in eBay auctions. This is fairly common and there is some weird stuff too. I think the seller's name was guitar morgue or some such thing where he has a little harem of slutty goth chicks modeling the pointy guitars. Highly entertaining as only one of them even knows how to hold a guitar properly.

OK a PS3 + a free car? I love it look at all of these people still trying to cash in on the PS3. PS3's are popping up all over the place in B&M stores and on-line. My friend sold his about 3 weeks ago and even back then he only made about $35.
 
Are these people actually getting, by and large, even more 'low rent' than they were pre-Christmas, or is that an illusion just caused by them definitely being doubly pathetic for still trying to scam a profit from one of these things? Looking at their smiles, I really wonder if some of them even have a fucking clue about how the last six weeks have gone for their e-predecessors?
 
I recognize some of these pictures from a while back, so it may be that at least some of them are relisting their systems and using old pictures.

My favorite part is how sneaky they are with the wording of their auctions. I posted earlier in the thread about one I was watching that was for a 60GB system, 10 games , and 2 Blu-Ray movies. There was 30 minutes remaining and the high bid was only at $650. I thought about bidding myself but then in the very fine print it said he could only include the free games if the final value reached $2000. The final value was $900. So bottom line the guy won a PS3 w/ 2 movies for that price. Retail value = $650.
 
One thing that's amazing to me as well is this week there have been thousands of Wii's released nationwide. Although the ebay value never went insane on them they still continue to remain at about $100 profit margin (if purchased retail after tax, shipping, and fees).
 
I would like to comment on the idea that these scalpers are unintentionally (and to comical effect) promoting.

Scalping only works under two situations. The first is a deadline, and the deadline for the PS3 passed long ago. The second comes around when the buyer(s) is/are complete idiots or have wads of cash falling out of their pockets. Scalpers (at this point and time) are playing on the latter situation in hopes of making a profit. They believe that (1) gamers have money, and (2) gamers are stupid enough to pay mark-up on an item that is becoming readily available at a rapid pace. What I am personally pissed about is the notion that they believe video gamers are so stupid, they won't notice the mark-up on these systems. What I find interesting is that the seller (in this situation) ends up looking like the fool for buying into an idea only to find out that nobody is stupid enough to pay for mark-ups on a readily available piece of equipment.

Either that or anybody thinks they can be an entrepreneur these days.:booty:
 
edavis - I don't think these people think that gamers are stupid, the sellers are just stupid enough to think that they (the seller) have outwitted their local shoppers and can score big profits on the item. With the pre-launch hysteria people were lead to believe that they would be making at least 200% on their money, which they were at the time, but in looking at feedback scores and past auctions of some of these sellers you begin to see a pattern of not being very clever when it comes to eBay.

I must say that I might pay a small premium for some nude photos and/or crotch hair clippings from voynarovitch's high cheek-boned beauty there.
