Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.

I prefer the term recovering. ;)

Well the TESO beta inspired me to give Skyrim a go. I've now logged more Skyrim than TESO hours. I have to say they really are different. TESO really feels like a modern streamlined MMO with ES graphics and lore. TESO also has a stronger sense of progression. It's rather addictive and Skyrim isn't quite a substitue for it. However, I'm not sure I wouldn't burn out on TESO in 40-60 hours.

How are the Ghost Recon games?
I played GRAW 1 and 2 on 360 and they are fun but very hard.

I reached points on both solo where I couldn't get past it because it was so hard and I don't think I could change difficulty mid save.

That said, they are really fun and MP is a freaking blast. I remember playing hours on end with my brothers on both. There's also a co-op mode which is a little easier, but still hard.

Hi all.

Question for those who track Steam values, as I am weighing a trade offer.  Am I making a good deal?

Me Trading Away
* South Park RU/CIS
* Don't Starve
* two TF2 Refined Metal

Me Receiving
* Star Wars: Jedi Knight Collection
* Nidhogg
* Proteus

It looks like the going rate for South Park RU is 5 TF2 keys and Don't Starve is about 2 TF2 keys.  At last check Jedi Knight Collection and Nidhogg were about 3 keys each and Proteus was about 1 TF2 Key.  So essentially my 7 TF2 Keys + 2 Refs for & TF2 Keys.

Does that sound about right?  I'm flipping out over south Park being restricted.... :headache:

Have you played the first Ghost Recon game? THAT was hard. I also played a lot of MP with a friend back then.

I've heard Chaos Theory is the best Splinter Cell -- thinking about picking that one up.
Chaos Theory and Conviction are the best in my opinion (havent played Blacklist yet)

Chaos Theory has a great stealth heavy single player campaign, and a damn fun coop mode.

Conviction's single player campaign is short, heavy on story, more fast paced than previous games, but still real fun.

Conviction shines more in the Challenge level mode (forgot what it was called). I put many hours into that mode, and that was just on the first level. I cant wait to try it out in coop eventually (I finally got my friend to pick it up last time it was on sale)

Double Agent on PC is the WORST btw.

There's no doubt that the games are good, especially if you snagged Don't Starve for a $1 during the steam glitch. All the same, I'd recommend you see if you can wait at least another day to see if South Park flips back.

Sorry for commenting on this late.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, just ignore.

I've never played a game at 60 fps and thought it wasn't cinematic enough.  I'm fine with being reminded it's a game.  If I wanted to watch cinema, I'd watch a movie.  On the other hand, I'm also fine with games playing at "only" 30 fps.  Maybe this is because I had a crappy PC for years and regularly played games at 15-20 fps and was fine with it.

What I did find weird is watching a live action video at 60fps.  That was bizarre.  I guess when it comes to live actors, I'm completely used t0 30 fps and under.  60 felt super strange, and yes, oddly enough, did remind me that "this is just a video."

Yeah, I'd recommend the same.. there's a chance it might revert back, and if he does trade it before it reverts he'll be losing quite a bit of money.

I'm just going to come right out and say it.

I can't believe that TF2 keys are a form of currency among traders.

I think I hate trading.

Okay, thanks for the suggestions....I think I just need to put on some Smooth Jazz, put my feet up, and watch something relaxing on television. Or take a bubble bath. Or drink a full bottle of Nyquil and wake up Monday. .... Something, anything to stop freaking out. :joystick:

HOLD OFF ON THAT.

Several tradable games in inventories that had the RU tag added had them removed earlier today. There's a chance South Park will go back to being region free.

I actually really do want that bundle, I just don't $10 want it and the BTA is nuts.

Porn. Nuts. Get it? :D/
Yeah, the games in the BTA look sorta interesting. Heck, the books and films look pretty interesting in the BTA and premium tiers. I'm hoping the price, er, goes down.

It would help if there were something game wise in the, err, bottom tier other than Dinner Date which has been cheap and bundled multiple times already.

Seems like this is the place to ask for some advice, so here's a question for you:

What is the Steam card value of 1.5 TF2 keys?

Thanks guys for the feedback on HAWX.  Why was the second considered worse than the original? Although at this point I'm thinking I might wait for a bundle anyway, as the likelihood of me getting to either one before they're eventually bundled (yes I know Ubi blah blah blah) is low.

Seems I won't be getting RS Lockdown. Reviews says is a pure and straight shooter. Thinking about RS 3.

Another game I'm looking is Future Soldier. But seems the campaign is mediocre, and I'm not buying it for coop.

Ummmm...it'll look nice sitting next to my other Tom Clancy games in my Steam backlog library?
I appreciate your redacted honesty. Just grabbing Rainbow Six 3 GOLD. I have fond memories, which I hope aren't really just mind lies, of rocking co-op in this game, with friends on Xbox. For nostalgia!

They sell some of their games on the Humble Store now so I don't think an Ubi bundle is completely out of the question at this point though they may try to pass them off as only UPlay keys.

Depends on what particular Steam cards you are referring to....

Now my turn: How long is a piece of string?
Oh, I didn't know cards had different values. I only ask because I'm trying to trade some cards for Skulls of the Shogun. Still new to the whole card thing. Any advice on finding out how much my cards are worth?

EDIT: Also, what are "ref"s?

Can anyone suggest some good mods, if applicable, for RS3?

Edit: PISS coming from my ASS! Literally, every other day Steam downloads/updates Source SDK Base 2007 with 1.2 GBs. It's getting on my nerves because I'm not sure if it's a glitch or actually required. Is anyone else getting this bullshit?

Gummi Bear Challenge?

Actually, I almost did just piss my pants when glancing at the Steam store. I thought I saw Beast Busters, but NO, it was Meat Beaters or Ass Blasters or something like that. Wish SNK would drop this gem on PC.

Get Enhanced Steam it gives a lot more statistics than vanilla Steam will with regard to cards.

But basically you can just go through the price history for that individual card and see about the average it's been going for recently and price accordingly.

Everytime I check out the steam forum during Ubisoft sale, there are always people complaining about their uplay keys not working, has anyone here ever encountered such problem with Ubisoft games?

It's not required for retail games, but some Source mods need its assets. Do you have any mods installed?

Refined metal from TF2. Traders use them as spare change along with keys. I forgot how many refs it takes to make a key (and it fluctuates from time to time) but you'll often see trade offers for x keys and y refs.
The current value of a key is around 7-7.5 refined metal.

And in other I got a free game news, Dan Marshall had another Gun Monkeys giveaway. I missed it... and he sent me a key.

Except a bot stole that one.

So he sent me a key via DM.

I feel obligated to give tons of copies of his old adventure games in the next sale.

Several, but I don't understand why it seems to be constantly downloading this exact same sized update. In the past week Steams downloaded the Source SDK update of 1.2 GB FIVE times. There has to be an error somewhere that's making it download this over and over and over again. Might just uninstall and reinstall the SDK to see if that corrects it.

There are certain UPlay keys for DLC that I've found don't work in the client but need to be actually redeemed in the game itself. *shrug*

I don't know if this was posted already, but there's a promo that gives free Thief Gold steam keys

  • Go here
  • Enter info (can be fake with a bullshit email address)
  • Press Submit
  • Add Thief Gold to your Amazon cart
  • Use the coupon they provide to make the game free
  • Get your steam key
You can do this infinitely from what I see

Enjoy

Well, I figured I'd play a little CoD Ghosts today anyway.. since it was free & all... and lo & behold my first totally unplayable game with my old Geforce GTX275 :(

Game requires directx 11 apparently.. Oh well.

What about cases like CD Key already in use with another UPlay Account, such as this and this? Almost every Ubisoft game has a few threads in the forum similar to those, I think it is really messed up if Steam and Ubisoft are selling duplicate keys to people.
