WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 OUT NOW!!!

I just wish the demo gave us someone with a little bit more... charisma, I guess. Playing as Kane is just as boring as watching him on television :(

Too bad it didn't come with Cena and Kurt Angle.
I am damn near positive there was more than one Ultimate Warrior. One guy was around for year, then disapeared for a while. Then, another came up and he was smaller than the other one(shorter and not as bulky).
This is a rumor that never seems to die.

No. It was always the same guy. His appearance changes are due to hairstyle changes, weight loss, de-juicing, and just plain old age.

Must be a pretty awesome game, then.

I like hearing the jobber themes during the instructional videos. Hardcore Holly's old theme was a weird surprise.

Yea, I like how they went the extra mile to make it completely accurate to the real product like that.

I'm expecting Undertaker to no sell all his moves, as well.

It also takes Kane forever and a day to recover from his moves... Triple H pops right back up though.

Hey, that's the realistic part of this game.

Wow blood=amazing

As Kane, I put Triple H on the announcer table, hit the button for the finisher and Kane jumped from the ring to the announcers table to crush Triple H... awesome.

How do you drag someone on the ground?

I have no idea about the dragging.

I was playing as Triple H and Kane chokeslammed me near the table, positioning me and dropping me onto the hard plastic part with the monitors.

It looked pretty brutal, especially since the table didn't break and I slid off the table and was crumpled up on the floor.

I finally got to play it.. and I'm really impressed! Took a bit to learn it, and get the hang of it.. but I'd def like to see more info on it..because as far as I'm concerned I'm getting this day one :)

Damn didn't realize this topic would get real big lol :p
It looks like you STILL can't remove the steel steps and hit someone with them.
When I was fighting by em, I don't know if I got thrown into them or what, but somehow I picked the steps up and could hit Kane with them.
It looks like you STILL can't remove the steel steps and hit someone with them.
Maybe you can in the final version. I couldn't fight in the crowd in this one.

top of the stage above the announce table. press a to get over the wall.
It looks like you STILL can't remove the steel steps and hit someone with them.
Yes you can, just get near the steps and press A (like picking up any other weapon) and you'll pick it up.

As for the gameplay, simply awesome. I like the new finishers through the table animations instead of you having to do it yourself like in previous SD games. Also, how do you pick someone up for a suplex or whatever and use the right stick to control it. I've played about 5-6 matches and still havent figured out a way to do it.

You have to first get them in a strong grapple (Right Button + Right Analog) and then click in the Right Analog stick instead of doing a grapple.

Did anyone figure out how to drag someone yet? Thanks for the steel steps tip, too.
Did anyone figure out how to drag someone yet?
Hold in the right thumbstick. Clicking it in picks them off the ground.

I'm loving the environmental grapples, especially slamming their head on the steps or the announcers table. If you barely hit up then barely hit down, you can slam their head up and down in rapid succession. It looked pretty brutal when it was BAM.. raise their head.. BAM.. raise their head.. then I did the barely up and down.. and it was like.. BAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAM.. I was laughing my ass off.

Speaking of Bam.. Bam Bam Bigelow? Mr. Perfect? Jim Neidhart? Damn that's awesome.. too bad there's STILL no Owen Hart.

Thanks I was really wondering how you pick someone up.

Now I have another control question:

How do you remove the turnbuckle cover?

Also the Irish whip does put people on the table. You just have to have the right angle or they will not go up on it.

Just press A when you're near a turnbuckle.

I noticed last night that there are a few more controller configs in the options screen. Haven't tried them yet since I got used to the default setting.

I seem to remember that a deal was reached with Owen's widow that WWE couldn't use his likeness in anyway for profit (i.e. in video games, action figures, etc)

That's lame.. cause he was in that Showdown game, yet not here. Oh well. I'm more than content with Bam Bam, Neidhart and Mr. Perfect.. it just would've been nice to have Owen in with Bret.

/edit: And I know Acclaim did Showdown, that's not the point, my point is that his likeness was used, regardless of whether or not it was WWE.

Words really can't describe how freakin' amazing this game is. Little details make all the difference.. like the fans cheering and booing at certain moves and taunts.

mother fucker.. the special edition has not only been raised to 69.99, but pictures have been added to the EB site.. as well as details.

The WWE Smackdown Vs. RAW 2007 Special Edition includes:
* Custom WWE Tin Packaging
* World Wrestling Trivia Book
* Disc 3 of History of WWE Championship DVD

Now the case, which makes me sad, because I'm probably going to break my "no more shopping at EB" rule just to get this case.

Or I may just wait and buy it used.. i'm sure I could find it eventually.

Great.

I figured they'd jack up the price, considering a full-featured DVD disc and tin packaging were included.

I really want this game, but I'm not sure whether to fork over the extra sawbuck for it. I don't think I'm picking up the WWE Championship set, so it might be worth it.

I think one of my favorite "little things" is how HHH groans (in his real voice) when he gets hit and whatnot, I hope they did this for everyone.

VERY tempting. Good thing I like all my games looking orderly and neatly arranged, or else I'd buy this in a heartbeat. In the meantime, I will only be upset with myself if the trivia book is really good.

Seems like these tin cases are becoming popular now. This will be the third tin case that I will have in my collection in addition to Marc Ecko's Getting Up and Prey LE. Gears of War CE looks like it may come in a similar packaging as well.
I like the thinner tin cases like True Crime NYC, Doom, Halo 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Agreed.

Well, hopefully this means the trivia book is a decent size. All you have to fit otherwise is two discs in this large tin.

Am I the only person who really doesn't understand some of the controls of this game?

I don't get how to do moves from strong grapples or how to do different attacks at hotspots.

Did you watch the training videos? They pretty much explain all the basic stuff.

right bumper + right joystiq = strong grapple.. then do a direction on the right thumbstick for a move.

for the hotspots, I think its one attack. You do a strong grapple then walk over to whereever with the left thumbstick and it'll automatically set it up. Hotspots i've found:
 • Announcer table. The first time, you will rip off the top of the table and both monitors out and choke your opponent with the cord. The second time, you will just bash their head on the table.
 • Tables (first hotspot leans them against the table, do a strong grapple and it puts them ON the table)
 • Steel steps (bash their head)
 • Barrier around the ring (bash their head)
 • Near the speakers (choke them out with a cord)
 • On the ropes (atomic drop on the ropes then you can shake the ropes up and down)
 • Turnbuckle (Climbs up on them and punches them)
 • Ring Apron (on the outside. He lays them inside the ring with the head hanging over and either hits the throat or grinds his elbow across their face)
 • Ring post (from the outside. Slams their arm into the ring post)
 • Black box in the crowd area (Smashes your opponent's head into a TV)
 • Speakers (Smashes your opponent into the speakers)
 • Into the crowd (To do this, throw your opponent into the barrier in the crowd area, then do a strong grapple)

To add to that, there is one I found in the crowd area next to the yellow cords where I was able to throw Kane OVER the guard rail into a fan with popcorn and the popcorn spilled everywhere

I've never gotten them to bash the head in at the announcers table, they usually rip off a tv and choke the other guy out with an electrical cord. There is also a hotspot at the speakers, as well, where one wrestler throws the other one into the speaker.

Yeah the head bash is the second attack on the table. I'm going to try that popcorn one now, that sounds awesome. Same with the speaker.

Can we not do weapon grapples or throw weapons any more?

Found another hotspot - black box with the TV on it in the crowd area

I don't know how to throw weapons, but I did a grapple with the sledgehammer by flicking the right analog toward Kane, and HHH choked him out with the sledge hammer.

Where's the sledgehammer?

Also, in the crowd area, it makes a specific point to show fans holding weapons over the guardrail. I've seen a crutch, a cane and a title. I bet you can grab these somehow. Maybe not in the demo, though.

I cannot friggin' wait for this game.

You can grab them in the demo... just press A near the fans. I've used all three, and also grabbed a sign.

The sledgehammer is is in the left hand side of the ring, press A in the middle of the apron to grab it. The up and down sides have chairs, and the right side has a spiked bat.

Sweet! I kept hitting A near the fans and no bueno. Same with the ring apron. I guess I never hit A, I always hit A and a direction on the d-pad because he'd get on the ring apron.

Yea, just A, no directions needed.

The steel steps do massive damage, as well.

Anyone know how to do these moves yet (I'm assuming that they're hot spot moves).

-You are near the ropes and you are grinding your opponents face back and forth on the rope.
-You are outside and your opponent is laying down inside near the turnbuckle. You then pull their legs and they go crotch first into the steel post.

Ok, the "wow" factor has worn off. I'm not digging this as much as I thought.

Any game that still uses button mashing to get up needs some rethinking. It's an outdated gameplay mechanic that only leads to worn out controllers and tired hands. The old Smackdown games had guys getting up way too fast, now they take way too long. How about a happy medium?

Some people are saying the loading screens are improved from last year. I'd hate to see last year's, because this one is horrible in that regard. The loading screen even comes up in between developer logos for fuck's sake.

The default grappling system is crappy. Stuff like clicking in on the r-stick while in a grapple leaves too much room for error (hitting a direction before the button registers, etc). On a related note, every other time I do a grapple it gets reversed...this is Giant Gram all over again. I haven't tried it yet with a different control setup yet. I will say the environmental situations are pretty cool, though (crotching the guy on the ropes, etc).

THQ HAS fuckED UP BIG TIME

Unfortunately, one of the coolest, and perhaps biggest, no-brainer options one could have on the 360 version isn't available in this year's game. You can't use custom soundtracks stored on the 360 hard drive as theme music for created wrestlers. Considering how that was one of the few redeeming features of THQ's previous wrestling efforts on the Xbox, it seems like a major oversight.

That really sucks. And it'd be a bitch to open the media blade and select the song you want to play at the precise moment.

Perhaps they could fix that with an update?
