Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

The Bioshock Collection and NBA 2k16 have showed up in the Xbox game pass section for me now, though it still wants me to buy them instead of just letting me install. I hope they do get added, I wouldn't mind playing through the Bioshock remasters.
Great to hear the BioShock collection might be free. I would really like to play through those again.

"Alternative" Mass Effect Andromeda launch trailer focused on FemRyder coming soon according to Aaryn Flynn (Bioware's top dog).

https://mobile.twitter.com/masseffect/status/840638513074823168

He was really pestered about that yesterday on twitter.
I'm sorry that's a load of crap. THE WHOLE REASON FEMSHEP WAS THE BEST WAS BECAUSE OF JENNIFER HALE. Every RPG that allows different sexes chooses one for promotional material. If they couldn't focus on one or the other they'd just have a generic box art because they couldn't show you anything in fear of stupid SJW on twitter...

ahuh

I can only speak from my own experience but doom is on Super Nintendo, Atari Jaguar, Sega 32x, Playstation, Sega Saturn, and many others
This is like saying Tetris is on *insert every single platform there is and even devices not intended for Tetris like calculators, smartwatches, buildings and what-not, but yeah Tetris came out but was predominantly known on Game Boy. Doom is predominantly known on PC, as many PC gamers were blown away by the innovation id Software created - such innovations like 3D Graphics, Network Multiplayer, Customized Additions known as WADs, etc. I used to have to listen as my phone (land line) rang as my buddy wanted to play Doom multiplayer, you let the computer pick it up after a set number of rings. It was also the game to play LAN multiplayer too. So yeah not only did it popularize FPS, or also fanatic tendencies of media's portrayal of deranged psychopaths playing DOOM, but with the shareware feature and the slick controls (hey you can strafe back and forth) didn't hurt either. The biggest thing that made DOOM into something was that "flow" you get while playing it, something id Software captured with the newest iteration DOOM (2016).

FPS Pedigree & history goes ->DOOM-> Marathon -> Goldeneye-> Halo C.E. -> Call of Duty, yadda yadda yadda.

Marathon being Mac only would make most people disagree with that FPS timeline. PC people would undoubtably put Quake in that list instead.

I would also argue quake was more important for a lot of reasons, too.

Jennifer Hale was FemShep. Her voice did it, without question. Especially when playing her as Renegade. And in that vein:

Don't forget the crap that happened with the "reversible" ME3 standard cover:

Agreed 101%. The reason I got into Mass Effect was because of Hale's FemShep. When I played ME1 for the very first time, Mark Meer's wooden performance (along with the clunky combat) bored me to the point that I abandoned the game for almost a year.

After putting 3 hrs into Warhammer quest and playing it on hardcore mode where permadeath is enabled.Seeing my mage go down followed by my rogue then dwarf and finally marauder ah man it was a sad day today.

Maraton being developed by Bungie, could be the main reason I mentioned it but the other was that everyone mentions it (G4TV/Gamespot/Engadget/Gametrailers/Etc).

Developed by a pre-Halo Bungie Studios, the Marathon series was on the cutting edge of the first-person shooter genre. Marathon introduced concepts like dual-wielding weapons and real-time voice chat in multiplayer. The three games feature a physics engine that allows for changing gravity, bringing as much depth to actual gameplay as the incredibly complicated story.

Marathon 2 continued the innovations with the ambient noises and the ability to swim. It was also the only title in the trilogy to be ported to Windows. For Marathon Infinity, the series took a hard turn toward the surreal with a story that transcended time and space to send you blasting evil through alternate realities.
https://www.engadget.com/2014/01/31/before-halo-we-had-marathon-play-bungies-three-mac-classics/

Yeah I didn't mention Quake, I mentioned the relevant games in context of Halo, Goldeneye and DOOM as per discussion. Sorry for the confusion.

Updated OP.

I think that might be the problem. I also bought it from NewEgg. I didn't even realize that there was an expiration date. The fine print is weird though. It says "Free subscription one-time use code expires December 31, 2016." It wasn't free, I bought it.

I'll see if EA or Microsoft can issue a new code. Otherwise I'll have to deal with NewEgg for a refund or charge back. Freaking sucks.
I don't know how much luck you've had, but I've had none. Newegg says contact the manufacturer. I contact Microsoft, they say contact EA. I contact EA and I feel like it's going to result in them telling me to contact MS because they generate the codes blah blah.

Well I bought a game for full price today for the first time in like 7 years.  And worse yet it was from GameStop.  Normally I would never pay $59.99 but Mass Effect is one of my favorite series of all time so it gets a CAG pass.  It also feels wrong to buy from GS over Best Buy with its GCU goodness but GS was offering $20 more for the games I was trading.

If you don't do a Renegade ME playthrough as FemShep, you're so doing it wrong.

Mark Meer did better as the games went on, since I think he had lots more voice coaching / training before the 2nd and 3rd games. Though, his delivery did much better as Paragon than Renegade, IMO.

With the Paragon / Renegade paths gone, we'll see how the voice actors for the two Ryders work out through the game.

The only other thing I'm going to say about this silly Doom discussion w/ regard to console FPS is that ports of a years-old PC game, many of which were inferior and only worth playing if you didn't have a PC (which, in the 90s, was way more likely to be the case for many households), weren't system sellers or doing anything new or different. PCs were still the platform people associated with FPS, until Goldeneye came out of nowhere and innovated a bunch, proving that consoles could do more than watered down, safe ports of already popular (and old) games.

Halo took that a step further with LAN play, and then XBL really changed things.

After loving FemShep in large part b/c of Jennifer Hale, watching alternate story cuts on Youtube w/ BroShep and his very sufficient but plain voicework was like a bad dream.

After finally redownloading Fallout Shelter and STILL getting the "snycing data for Fallout Shelter" screen when I fire it up, did a little hardcore searching round the net and seems this problem crops up every now n then. The solution for me which was originally suggested by a Microsoft representative? Delete your profile, plug in the system to an outlet(not a surge protector), then redownload your profile.....boom, problem fixed. Feels so good being able to scratch that Fallout Shelter itch again

WTF? Why would it matter if it's an outlet or a surge protector? How would the console even know? That seems strange. Maybe some engineer could enlighten me why it'd matter. Lol.

I would have just deleted and forgotten about it. It's just a lame f2p mobile tie-in.

I was told the same thing and I asked what's the diff. MS rep stated the system can't draw as much power from surge protectors as it does from an outlet. He stated there have been some issues with systems not functioning to its full potential because it wasn't receiving all the power it needs.

surge protectors are filled with cia spying equipment and that draws power which takes away from the other spy equipment such as the xbox one

I had Doom on the 32X, that might make me old
Youngster.

I had Doom on PC.

I ran a BBS back then and someone uploaded 6 1.44Mb files. I was like WTF is that? Guy said a cool game. I was like it is waste of space I think I am going to delete it. He was like no play it. Next thing I know the sun is coming up.

It had no real network code (just dial up). Did that once with a friend. I got crazy hooked on Quake 2 CTF. Played for like 2 years pretty much daily. I was REALLY good at it too.

Doom was what got me into gaming again. Stopped playing and got rid of my NES years before that.

Yeah, I dunno. The suggestion worked perfectly so whatevs. I'm back to playing FS so I'm happy.

lol @ all the fps definite suggestions. Everyone's version of "game changers" are varied. Chalk it up to a lotta good games out there from the past :)

Not an engineer but I call BS on the surge protector. Something was probably corrupted with his profile for the game. Deleting it and maybe restarting the console was likely what fixed it.

I would think if the console wasn't getting enough power it would cause issues for more graphically intense games as well.

My first first person shooter was bb gun/pellet gun wars without any protective gear

What did that game get on Metacritic? Might have to ask Bloomy to put in a request for a Date Night sale on that one.

I'll agree with you on the DOOM = PC comment, though it did get ported all over the place. Started on the PC and most well known on the PC. Halo on the OG Xbox + LAN play was a big step forward on consoles, though Halo 2 + Xbox Live was where it really went out of the park for console FPS play.

I'd wish we had Jennifer Hale in ME: A, though she's so tied to FemShep, it would be hard to think of her in another role in ME: A. There were so many good voice actors in ME1-3, such as Steven Barr as Wrex, Keith David as Anderson, Ali Hillis as Liara, Brandon Keener as Garrus, Ash Sroka as Tali, Michael Beattle as Mordin, Steven Blum as Grunt, Keythe Farley as Thane, Kym Hoy as Katsumi, Tricia Helfer as EDI, Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda and Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man. They're all tied to ME1-3, so having them in ME: A would be odd. I'm hoping what they have for ME: A will measure up in some way.

do the guys in this thread all play female Shepherd? I occasionally play a female character but never in games with romance options, does everybody romance dudes or can you girl on girl? andromeda ea access demo is the first time really playing much mass effect
I've done two playthroughs on ME1-3, one as male Paragon and one as female Renegade. Mark Marron doing renegade, enh, not so good, though Jennifer Hale doing Renegade, some good stuff indeed. It's required gameplay, IMO. ME1-3 all has female/female romance options, as did DA2 + DA: I, not sure about DA: O. DA: I and ME3 had male/male romance options as well.

There are some romance options ME3 and DA: I that are gender-specific, and I'd expect the same in ME: A. We'll know more around release, of course, or whomever gets their guide first.

All that FPS discussion and no one mentions the Timesplitters series?! Shame on you all.
Another good one, thank you for posting it.

WTF? Why would it matter if it's an outlet or a surge protector? How would the console even know? That seems strange. Maybe some engineer could enlighten me why it'd matter. Lol.
Console wouldn't know. Except when it fries from an electrical surge, then it would know when it dies.

I was told the same thing and I asked what's the diff. MS rep stated the system can't draw as much power from surge protectors as it does from an outlet. He stated there have been some issues with systems not functioning to its full potential because it wasn't receiving all the power it needs.
That MS rep is a fucking idiot. Surprised he hasn't electrocuted himself yet with some dumbassery. All of my consoles are ither on a surge protector or a surge outlet on a UPS. Never a single issue with "power draw".

Not an engineer but I call BS on the surge protector. Something was probably corrupted with his profile for the game. Deleting it and maybe restarting the console was likely what fixed it.

Thank you for calling BS first on the previous MS "engineer" comment. My comment is a second BS endorsement.

Hmm, I feel like I probably played the first two games paragon. Guess I should play that way if I theoretically ever play the games again before one day playing Andromeda.

Sounds like MS trying to get us to all fry our consoles and have to replace them.

Clarifying to all you who say BS on the surge protector and my profile was corrupted, I tried all fixes such as restarting console, router, deleting/redownloading my profile, clearing my cache, nada. Only when I deleted my main profile, then unplugged the console from the surge protector, plugged into an outlet and finally reinstalled my main profile, did Fallout Shelter work.

I don't care WHY those sequence of events worked, but long as I get to play FS again I'm happy. I know CaptB is happy I can play my f2p mobile port again ;)

I would like to point out that the achievement structure on Gears of War 4 is ridiculous. I have 40 of the 75 achievements and only 270 points.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that the Halo remaster looked a lot better than the Halo 2 remaster?
Personally I have a lot of issues with the graphical changes made in Halo 1. A ton of stuff is just so different from the original art style the game had, and for the most part I think they're worse. Part of that is from having played Halo 1 SO much back in the day, really having explored those levels for months or years. Plus a few decisions that felt lazy, like using the Halo 3 design for Cortana. But they also took a lot of assets directly from Halo Reach, like the Warthog and Banshee models, some weapons, as well as those for the Marines and Elites, which I think were actually for a different branch of the military in Reach itself. A lot of changes that don't mesh well with the lore of the universe. (Not that 343 ever gave that much of a shit as evidenced by all the handwave nonsense for the opening of Halo 4 and it's many visual changes.)

I liked the changes of Halo 2 a lot more. I think Saber (the team that actually did the remasters) listened to feedback and seems like they had more of a budget. Most of the changes feel pretty faithful. The original Halo 2 holds up worse graphically to me than 1 already since it's trying for more detail before it could really look great, so the bump helps more.

+1 for ALL of this

I usually play female in games, just a general preference. With Mass Effect specifically I always preferred Hale's performance over Mark Meer's. As for romance, Bioware has been pretty open with options since ME 1 really. Every game since has generally given at least one or two bisexual options, with an occasional gay or lesbian only option. They've generally been trying to be more inclusive in general lately, there were a lot of options for both males and females in Dragon Age Inquisition.

The real problem is usually the best girl isn't an option for lesbian romance, Tali never happened even though there are voice lines in ME1's files. Jack never got it either. I ended up going with Samantha in ME3. Maybe I just like the non-party member characters more though? I went with Josephine in Inquisition.

I guess we'll see how they've changed things up in Andromeda. It sounds like they're finally moving on from awkwardly animated making out in underwear to awkwardly making out topless.

It's a huge grind for sure. Took me 300+ hours to complete, and that was using the Sniper Strike exploit to get to reup 10 before TC patched it. If I didn't, you probably could have doubled that time.

I always played male Paragon in the ME games. Didn't realize I was missing so much not playing as femshep, but I'll still likely go male paragon in ME:A

Also got charged for my digital copy this morning. Shit is getting real

Mass Effect is worth double. I preordered with the Visa.l check out discount from BBY but I'm going to go ahead and preorder the digital copy so I can play early. Love the muttiplayer almost as much as the single player.

I don't know if it was stated or not but if he was playing on the S not the OG xbox 1 it definitely could have issues with power draw. Mine was finicky as hell dashboard would load but games wouldn't, just random turn offs etc. If you even read the product manual they mention this issue. Most likely to do with the internal power supply vs the giant brick.

ME: A drops the Paragon + Renegade paths, as the designers said that's a Shepard thing, so they've moved to the more nuanced conversation options in DA: I. Still worth a Renegade FemShep playthrough in ME1 - ME3 if you can spare the time, for the lines if nothing else.

That's a badly designed power supply if it's sensitive to being connected or not being connected to a power strip. Bunch of bullshit, IMO.
