Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

I thought it made Zelda look boring, they had to make conversation while waiting for Link to reach his destination, reminded me of riding the gryphons in World of Warcraft.

Really the point they have been driving with Zelda is that its a huge, seamless open world.

I thought the show was actually quite good. Yeah it had some issues with it, but given that this is the first year Geoff has put together something like that himself I'd say he did a good job.

Microsoft must have had no confidence in the show. They were a complete no-show aside from Conan only plugging Xbox One games and the one Sunset Overdrive advertisement. It was a massive missed opportunity from them when Nintendo appeared to be heavily supporting the show and while Sony kind of held back for their own conference at least they came and showed a couple of things.

I dont think the show was bad but it went on for too long. I would have liked to see something from Quantum Break or Scalebound.

Yeah my biggest issues with the show were:

-Went on for too long. Should have been 2 hours.

-Awards should have been handed out on the stage, not awkwardly off on the sidelines.

-Had pacing issues. I think they should have had a better flow of giving out an award then showing off some games back and forth.

-I like the classy "Oscars" like theme they were trying to do, but if they wanted to go that route they should have had a dress code.

-While on one hand I like how pumped the audience sounded I felt they were too overly loud at some points.

No doubt  the show went on too long.. when the Broken Age skit came up and said it was only the halfway point I was ready to bail but I hung in until the end.

I'd be really upset by this if it were 1992.

That show sucked. Look, I've been a gamer for over 30 years and I still soak up any little piece of gaming like this, but the show was dreadfully boring. The reveals were yawn-worthy, the presenters were meh, except for Tim Schaeffer. And, for the love of God, Geoff Keighley is a tool. The one thing I wanted to see was that dragon age clip with Cassandra and Varric and the idiot had to talk all over it.

Long in the making, my Titan One review is finally live! The device lets you play Xbox One and 360 and Playstation 3 and 4 with any controller from those platforms, as well as PC controllers and mouse and keyboard. Please check it out.

This has nothing to do with you personally, but I cannot fathom why anyone would want to watch streams of those games unless the person had no intention of ever playing the games themselves. The story is the game in the case of Telltale.

It's not the entire game, so it's a way to see what the game will be like before you play it. But also, even having seen the game once, you can choose to make different decisions during your own playthrough. Most of the people who saw the Tales premiere last week didn't go home and not want to play it any more.

I agree with EastX. I don't often watch let's plays, but it's good when you're on the fence or if you are super excited for a game. I sometimes watch that stuff while ironing clothes for work or when I have to stationary busywork.

Chubbyninja, I am completely with you on that. I have watched EastX stream games multiple times in the past. What I was saying is that, for me personally, I'd prefer to play this specific style of game without seeing them in action due to the fact that almost all the fun is derived from experiencing the stories.

In this case, I also am already highly familiar with how the games play due to owning many Telltale games. But I do not disagree with your point whatsoever.

Valid points. A sensible Telltale fan who knew they were going to experience those games would be silly to watch anything more than the trailers for those games.

The only reason I'd watch somebody play a Telltale game is after I had played it to see how they tackle the various choices and see how it differs from my own, though I'd say something like Heavy Rain would be better stream material on that front.

Lol they lost me on those game award shows, esp those VGA/X crap. The Dice awards aren't bad but it's like the complete opposite of the Spike shows.

That is certainly a fun thing about streaming them, seeing different choices played out. But also some of you guys who maybe don't watch Twitch streams much might not realize, a big part of the appeal of Twitch is listening to the Twitch host's commentary and chatting with fellow viewers.

Commentary-wise, it's very similar to listening to a podcast, except the host might also respond to things being said in chat. And different hosts will have different regular crowds, so it becomes like a scheduled or semi-scheduled chat session where you talk about games or whatever. Also, I give out free games and other prizes during my streams, but they'd be fun even without that.

Would have to see actual confirmation on that. Was stated several times that it was a timed exclusive unless something has changed since then.

Yea if it was an exclusive I would expect MS to advertise like crazy after the whole timed exclusive fiasco and avoiding that question

Not necessarily. The quotes I read from Phil were always fairly vague:

"My job is not to talk about games I don't own. I have a certain relationship on this version of Tomb Raider, which we announced, and I feel really good about our long term relationship with Crystal and Square. I get the reaction I see. If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine. Where this thing will go over time, just like Dead Rising or Ryse, we'll see what happens with the game. I don't own every iteration of Tomb Raider. I don't own them building Tomb Raider on other platforms. I can't talk about the franchise that way. I can talk about the deal I have. I have Tomb Raider shipping next holiday exclusively on Xbox. It is Xbox 360 and Xbox One. I'm not trying to fake anybody out in terms of where this thing is. What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don't control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don't know where else Tomb Raider goes. Yes, the deal has a duration. I didn't buy it. I don't own the franchise."

To me that could mean Phil was saying "yeah, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive," or "yeah, Rise of the Tomb Raider is exclusive to MS consoles and PC, but the sequels after that may come to other platforms since we don't own the franchise." He never really says anything about this title being on other platforms, just other titles in the series.

Till we get more info on this its best just to disregard it. If it was published by them and meant that it was never going to come to another console, they would have made it very clear that it would never come to PS4.

Yeah its not the end of the world if you're a Tomb Raider fan. Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft Games as an exclusive and look what happened there (not only did the sequels become availabe on other platforms, the original was packed with a "Trilogy"set).

I'll be looking forward to Rise of the Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics really turned the franchise around as it was surely circling the drain.

Eh, still doesn't mean anything. The article doesn't even source where it got this info from and the one thing they do source is from August 2014 in which the head of Crystal Dynamics says it has a duration.

Edit: Actually, that article is from like 4 months ago when it was first announced lol. Don't know why it says it was published today.

When the news broke about Rise of the Tomb Raider back in August in the original website leak it showed Microsoft as the publisher, that page was later updated to Square as the publisher and that is what further added to the confusion about the exclusivity deal.  So either Greenberg is still out of the know going off the original error, or Microsoft has renegotiated the deal into possibly full exclusive.  I would think the Greenberg would be in the know and his tweet would be accurate, but it wouldn't be the first time he was full of it.  By the way when is Phil going to fire that guy, he is like one of the last people still bringing toxicity to the brand, he really needs to be silenced or fired.

What did he tweet? And it would not come as a shock to me if they fully locked this up.

Edit: I saw the tweet about MS publishing, but I'll wait for a official announcement.

The more I think about the more I feel like TR wont come out on the PS4. Its timed but will only come out on PC and 360 at a later date.

360 is supposed to come out the same time as 360. I feel like if the timed deal was pc later mircosoft would have just said that as that doesn't hurt them really.

I dont think the 360 and X1 versions are coming out at the same time if that's what you mean. Im expecting them to announce full exclusive soon now that sony has SF.

Well BioWare was purchased by EA, so it wouldn't be far fetched to say ME 2/3 would have been Xbox exclusives.

Maybe. If Microsoft had bought them or they went back to them as a publisher. Before EA bought them they were an independent 3rd party developer that used many different publishers to publish their games.

It looks like Greenberg was correct in that matter (Or partially correct). IGN Posted an article and according to the statement they got from Square Enix Microsoft is publishing the Xbox version of the game.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/12/09/rise-of-the-tomb-raider-is-being-published-by-microsoft
What I hate about the article is that they still don't fully clear up the exclusive part, because they again end with it being a "Timed" exclusive... So I guess MS is publishing in exchange for a timed exclusive, but what "publishing" in this case may be different. I.E. they are helping with advertising, distribution costs, or development costs... This is all super weird!

It could just be paying for the publishing costs on their system and marketing and not like SF V or Bayonetta 2 where Sony and Nintendo are actually helping pay for the development cost as well as help to develop the game.

Honestly, till Microsoft actually comes out and says that Tomb Raider is a Microsoft exclusive and will never be on PS4/PS3 its still just a timed deal.

yea they said that in the IGN article, that MS would not comment on what Publishing is going towards... if it's development then its a full exclusive, but it could just be marketing or even distribution in exchange for a timed exclusive

I can also see why Sony may have passed on trying for it, with Uncharted coming out, and Crystal probably saying whoever helps us with A. gets a timed exclusive and Sony saw this and said well not a big deal if we have to wait since Uncharted will fill that time. (just speculating)

You both seemed to have missed this line which makes it sound like they're paying for development alongside marketing.

"Yes, Microsoft will be publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox. Microsoft has always seen huge potential in Tomb Raider and they will get behind this game with more support across development, marketing and retail than ever before, which we believe will be a step in continuing to build the Tomb Raider franchise as one of the biggest in gaming."

If its true then i guess we should see in the coming days Microsoft official announcement Tomb Raider is now an Xbox exclusive and that the deal no longer has a duration.

But you do realize in that same article right before that it says the details on what this means aren't clear.
