Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Hard reset, reset and reconfigured the TV settings. Reset the cable box just to be sure. Played with my TV settings even though I know it's the Xbox pass through.

Nothing is working.

Destro, have you tried the system default reset? I can't remember off hand how it is done, I just know I had to look it up and it worked on my brother's system. It entails hitting the power and eject button at certain times for a certain length.

So my brother in law told me to check my cable box video output. I said no way it's that because A) it happened after turning off the system and turning it back on, why would that change cable box settings? B) direct into my TV it was the correct output.

Come home look at my cable box and it was changed to 480p! I have no explanation for this but turning it back to 1080 fixed the problem.

Baffling. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

I finally tried Killer Instinct last night, 6 months after buying my console. Definitely a fun game. Don't see myself paying full price for the fixin's since I get very frustrated by fighters on higher difficulties and online. But I'm glad I downloaded it.

I'm Twitch streaming Warframe for Xbox One tonight at 8pm Central/6pm Pacific. Join the stream and play along with us in-game for a chance to win Warframe prizes ranging in value from $10-40!

Followed and ready to watch. Played a little of Warframe a month or so ago and suprisingly really enjoyed it. Just re-downloaded it after getting a new exteral HD for my one.

Coolness! Did you make it? I didn't see you there, but it's hard to keep up while you're actually streaming.

Yup, was watching for about an hour. Took awhile to get things going but after getting everyone together and you worked out the audio issues I enjoyed it a lot. Stopped playing this because Destiny so I plan on starting it back up today or tomorrow.

According to the status page everything is working... But this happened for me last night. Eventually the friend list got sporadic and voice chat failed. I think things are still going on even if they aren't updating the support page.

Go get your Xbox ones now... looks like they are raising the prices back up?

Could just be bundles but still...

Would be pretty dumb to go and raise the price back up. Killing those bundles would be fine

Really they should release a different bundle @ 350 - include Halo MCC or Forza 2

I think we may get lucky if they simply have the xbox one for $350 with no bundle... however if they raise it and every option is $400, i think it would be a bigger mistake then the always online debacle.

Might be part of the reason the creator and designer of the xbox one and xbox live left? speculation but very interesting.

The Verge did an interesting article noting that nearly every Xbox Executive they profiled last year has left the company. The article had more of a positive tone because they noted that everybody who left was involved in the original vision of being a TV/Media focused console.

I don't think raising the price is a good idea either and I expect Microsoft will quickly fall back on the idea. They'll probably release PR in either February or March saying something along the lines "We listened to our fans and Xbox One is now $350". I hope they at least do $400 bundled because otherwise it'll be a disaster.

A bundle similar to PS4's Pick 4 can work.

Don't think it can continue to beat out Sony in sales at that price, but better than a standalone bundle.

I'm expecting another official free game promotion almost immediately, and then nonstop retailer-specific deals until the inevitable official price drop.

Maybe they are just saying the promotion is ending to push people on the fence over thinking it will go up in January, then come January 3rd they will just raise the price on the bundles.  However, I have been saying that they raised the price back in April after discounts of over $100 so they very well could go back to the $400 price point.

Too bad Aaron Greenberg isn't one of the people who left, him and Yusuf Mendhi can both go pound sand.

I don't understand why everyone says they will NOT raise the prices back up... they did this for the 360 and after the holiday season they raised the price back up

The 250GB and 4GB with kinect were all dropped to $250 and the 250GB with kinect was dropped to $349 and after holidays sales they were returned to $299/$399 respectively

why buy a system that dont have lots of games yet give it like two years before buying one cause first off it will be alot cheaper and there will be more games if you wait

if they want to dominate the north america market. they should probably make $350 a permanent price.

People are surprised because there's simply no way they'll compete with the PS4 at $400. Consumers have made it clear they aren't willing to pay that price for it and given the massive momentum they've gained in the last two months raising the price again is just plain stupid.

It's just super annoying to see them do something like this because last year they competed horribly until the end of the year when they dropped the price and now it looks like they want a repeat of that same scenario. Realistically I'd permanently drop it to $350 and then next holiday season lower it to $300 as a sale.

Price point isn't the only factor though.  Sales did increase, but when you already have a larger install base, not surprising to see PS4 still outsell it.

Not trying to apply this to everyone, but I personally know a ton of people who were 360 gamers get or want a PS4 simply because it's the majority in terms of gaming consoles.

it will also force sony's hand, if they make $349.99 the permanent price for xbox one. sony cannot afford to drop it now. maybe in 2016, or 2017. that is why from bf up till now, sony is only willing to pack games into their bundle for the $399.99. instead of going to head to head with ms, with a $50 price drop.

OK guys I just found out that I can rip my dvds to mkv and have an exact copy of the movie.  Also I found out that the media player app can play the files off of an external harddrive without any encoding whatsoever.  But, they look kinda bad and i can't find any more complex options like being able to toggle subtitle tracks.  Are there any more advanced media player apps on the xbox one?  Or is there a way to access stuff like this in the very basic one?

Sony said they made the PS4 with price scaling in mind so they could stay competitive and they even said they were prepared to launch as low as $350 if Microsoft had launched at a lower price. If Microsoft were to keep the price at $350 and continue to gain momentum there is no doubt that a price drop would happen on the PS4 around May/June. But as it stands Sony has no incentive to drop the price as the system is selling so it would just be throwing money away.

Ugh I've been having problems with my Kinect as of recently. I've been noticing my "Xbox On" commands aren't registering anymore and sometimes when the Xbox One gets turned on it shows Kinect as being off and it won't work until I plug it out and in again.

Hope it isn't expensive to get it repaired out of warranty....

They might as well see what happens with sales by raising the price back up. It's not like they can't lower it again in the future. Keeping it permanently at $350 just gives them less options.

Another way to look at it is that now that more people have an Xbone, it'll have a domino effect in creating more friends and family members to adopt one. However, I do agree that the system won't catch up with the PS4's popularity. The Kinect and the original used games policy really screwed them and have proven to be mistakes. Long term, their best shot will be to lower the price by $50 to keep up with the competition.

The bigger question is how much of a loss-leader, if any, has the $50 difference + games been for them? I could see them dropping the games and leaving the price at $349, which seems like the middle ground move.

Is there enough profit still in the system to keep it at $50 off and not make it a drain on profits?

but to your average consumer, it just looks like ms is just increasing the price. when they had it for months at $349.99. it will turn even more people to ps4

mostly likely from software sales/ xbox live subscriptions

Why? What average consumer is going to think that? Most people are used to seeing bundles and sales on consumer electronics during the holiday shopping season. That is all they will think it was. Just like the big push a few months back where almost every store was offering a $50 gift card with the console.

But most people will say well it was $349.99 at one point, guess I will wait until then... whereas if they are in the market for a PS4, they feel comfortable that for now there is no price change in the future as it has stayed steady at $399

Maybe. Or maybe they will think, "Well, there won't be a sale like that until next Christmas and all my friends have one so I may as well get it now." I'm not saying that it would be a bad idea to keep the price lower (not knowing what their profit margin is of course), I'm just saying that I think we are giving too much credit to consumers on keeping up with industry pricing strategy. Plenty of people see what the price is when they are browsing through the aisles and for them it is just a sale like any other item has.

They had $75 off from the bundle, which included 2 games and an extra controller (if picking up the more expensive sku which came with the Kinect) Black Friday. The deals are ending, I think people would figure this out as this is nothing new.

Thats not going to happen, they've got a lot of the mindshare back after dominating the holidays.
They only did well because of a price drop. They have nothing coming out over the next few months so its foolish to raise the price back up. Ps4 still sold extremely
well even with Microsoft's price drop and no heavy hitters this holiday. What exactly makes you think they will keep outselling at the same price when they couldn't before?

Your definition of dominating and my definition must vary.... unless you're using MS logic and useless stats like "they dominated sales in stores beginning with T on days that start with F"

A base console with no freebies will have a tough time selling at $399 when everyone and their mother (in regards to retailers) was selling bundles at $329.99 - $350 with free extra games, gift cards and/or XBL subscriptions.

Those that were on the fence at launch but very much wanted one most likely have one by now. They're going to have a hard time gaining additional momentum moving forward sans some type of hard marketing or aggressive sales tactics

Like I said, the mindshare is back and theres a lot of positive buzz around. Im not saying they are going to win every month but I can see them winning a few. And its not like the PS4 is going to be cheaper or anything, I know that they have a couple of good exclusives coming out but I dont think they'll help move a ton of consoles.

They outsold the ps4 by 400k and Im expecting a sizable gap when December numbers are revealed, I know they had a lot of great deals to help but still to me thats domination.

Actually, last I read that gap wasnt as big as that

710k difference in LTD so far, 390-410k was the difference in November sales as far as I can remember from GAF.

It's fair to take the safe bet with PS4 regaining the sales lead in NPD charts.  You already know how I feel about those exclusives pushing sales further, so not going to comment on that.  The 3rd party games releasing during the "drought" is more than enough to carry the system until the holidays.

I can agree to some extent that the holiday sales somewhat devalued the worth of the XB1, but at the same time, don't think it's reasonable to say everyone went out and purchase one because of it.
