The 2013-14 NFL Thread

Can we just stick QBs inside of bullet proof glass, a la The Pope Mobile?

Maybe give them a cannon they can fire the ball out of, so they don't have to strain their arms throwing the football?

And then a year later Rob Ryan owns the fuck out of his former team, sticking it to Jerry in the process. Loved every bit of it

To be somewhat fair to Jerry, Ryan did stop being an idiot after he got fired. He took too many chances with Dallas and generated zero turnovers.

I like John Harbaugh overall, but his decision making in the final 2 minutes of the first half this season has been baffling.

Which would be the more amusing victory: Tampa or Jacksonville?

So the Rams won? That was surprising. Clemens does seem to be in position to take Bradford's job with how he's playing and I think that's a good thing. I guess we'll see how the end the season.

Clemens hasn't been very good. He's been pretty bad, actually. His completion percentage is barely over 50%. What has been good for the Rams offense is Zac Stacy and the running game in general. Bradford had no running game his first four starts, and he still completed over 60% of his passes on the year and had a 14/4 TD/INT ratio. If Bradford were playing the last few weeks with Stacy, there'd be no question that he's miles better than Clemens.

Yeah, there is no way to even think that Clemens is better than Bradford.

Cowboys won the Turdbowl. They're perfect against the division, so that is a thing.

I came home (Albany Ny, also Giants fans all over) and the Cowboys win their second matchup to sweep the Giants. Great day!

Exactly. Bradford was actually playing pretty well, considering what he was working with. He's also the franchise quarterback. He'll be back under center next year, no questions asked, especially when the competition is a 30 year old career backup

Biggest surprise today?

- Houston and Atlanta are in line for the top 2 picks.
- Detroit lost to the Bucs.
- Carolina barely beating Miami.
- KC falling apart on defense against San Diego.
- Patriots offense apparently allergic to the football.
- Patriots actually coming back to take the lead.
- The clocks at Foxboro going on strike.
- Green Bay and Minnesota tying.
- Indy getting creamed 2 weeks in a row to seemingly lesser opponents.
- That Arizona and Tennessee would be playoff teams if the season ended tonight.

Tampa Bay is playing themselves out of a great draft pick, and in the process making sure Fred Flintstone (Schiano) keeps his coaching gig.

FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

Romo puts up gaudy stats, but also makes huge mistakes in big spots. Plus, he's done little with the handful of playoff games he's gotten to play in. Reality is, until he and the Cowboys make a deep push into the playoffs, he will always be remembered as someone who comes up short in the clutch.

Well, seems like any questions about Cam being an "elite" quarterback are being answered...
Another 4th quarter comeback and 7 straight win. He isn't elite, only 4 are (Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees), but he is getting better. Yeah, he made some mistakes, but the Dolphins' D was absolutely controlling the line. He also got popped right in the mouth on the first offensive play by the crown of a Miami defender's helmet (no call, btw) All in all, we won another game we would have lost in the past two years and that gives me some hope.

While Cam Newton is playing well, I think the credit should undoubtedly go to our defense. They are spectacular. I can't imagine what they might be if we can draft a couple of good players for the secondary.

Poor defense by the Raiders and missed field goals by Jano comes back and hurts them. Oh well used to it.
That was another game that it seemed nobody wanted to win. The Titans weren't playing great either. They had like 6 holding penalties and 3-4 dropped balls. Kenny Britt had two drops alone. I didn't think Fitzpatrick had a final drive like that in him. But he surprised me and actually played decently well.

I'd be shocked if he gets the Titans into the playoffs but they currently have that #6 spot and the AFC is all over the place, so who knows.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Walter Thurmond suspended 4 games for substance abuse policy violation announced Sunday, and now announced a few minutes ago that Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner has violated substance abuse policy and will be suspended for 1 year.

They might be way better than their 0-8 record suggested considering they lost a lot of close games. Getting rid of Freeman seems like it was the right move too. If Schiano gets to 7-9 he may be back.

Also, EFF this season and the goddamn Giants. First time this year that the outcome actually mattered and they give up ANOTHER defensive TD. Have they broken the all-time record yet? It has to be close.

Honestly knowing how much the Glazers don't care about the Bucs, Schiano will not be fired. Who else will they hire? There's really nobody out there that's worth signing, and nobody really wants to coach in Tampa Bay.

The loss to the Cowboys was heartbreaking. At this point I want them to tank the rest of the way. I'm not sure they make the playoffs even if they win out. I don't see a point in trying. The draft pick is worth more to this team than 2 or 3 wins. Just my two cents.

P.S. If Schiano gets to 5 or 6 wins he stays. I think they'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, no organization wants to be on the hook for 3 coaches salaries at once.

I just can't root against them. I will be praying for a 9-7 finish like an idiot. I agree that they need big time help in the draft but that is such a crapshoot anyway I'd rather just have the instant gratification of a win on Sunday. Maybe they can ruin someone else's season even though we don't play the Eagles or Cowboys again. Those 2 Super Bowl wins (which I'll take a thousand times over) really hide how awful they have been for a while now. They had one truely good season out of the last maybe 10 years when they weny 12-4 and lost to the Eagles in the first playoff game. Plaxico basically ruined what could have been the greatest Giants season ever. They were dominant at 11-1 when he shot himself in the leg, went 1-3 down the stretch and were immediately bounced from the playoffs. I'm still pissed. Other than that one season they have been below average and they never seem to make the playoffs with any regularity.

Agreed but I still want the high draft pick.

The word enigma comes to mind when you think of Giants football over the last decade. They truly embody the Any Given Sunday moto. They can beat any team in the NFL but they are just as likely to disappoint week in and week out. IMO the pass rush and Eli's 4th QT play masked many of the teams shortcomings. This year has been an absolute, total failure across the board. No facet of the team has showed up on a consistent basis. Hopefully this will force management to shake things up a bit and start rebuilding around a few key pieces.

I agree - I actually think it goes to coaching. They have the potential to beat anyone any time but they make too many stupid mistakes - penalties, turnovers and all the stuff that well-coached teams seems to avoid. That said, I actually think they have a shot every single week which is much better than how it was in the 90s when you knew you were going to watch them lose every week.

Imagine Bill Belichick coaching the Giants with that talent over the last decade though. He has Tom Brady and a bunch of nobodys and they win 11-12 games every single year. Granted their division is completely mismanaged from top to bottom but still. I wouldn't trade the last 6 years though

Teams don't "go" for high draft picks. Coaching staffs get fired over that.
This would be true 99% of the time but the Giants aren't firing Coughlin and from an organizational standpoint it doesn't make any sense to try to get to 8-8. You are only hurting your chances to win next year.

Oh I know. Growing up my dad had season tickets. Let's just say Dave Brown's name is not allowed to be mentioned in his house. Besides the one Danny Kanell year those teams were awful.

I think Belichick would dominate with the Giants but NE has had some really good teams. Also, as you said "having one of the best QBs of all time" certainly doesn't hurt.
